V:28 Call It Quits

Norwegian industrial black metallers V:28 have issued the following update:

"There’s been a few questions and speculations lately regarding the future of V:28, wether we will continue or not, so we thought an official statement would be in its right place about now. Even though it has been a relatively tough decision to make, we’ve decided to call it a day. There’s a number of reasons for why we chose to disband at this point, but most important is that we have fulfilled the work we set out to do. It’s always been about the trilogy, and the content of the trilogy is the very essence of V:28. It would be wrong to continue under the name V:28. We have done our very best in every task, and seen from our point of view, we have succeeded in making a trilogy based upon the end of the world with a different and unique approach. The VioLution album is how we see the peak of our creative output, and it feels pointless walking the same path over again now that we’ve already reached the end of it. However, it’s important to stress the fact that V:28 will be fully operational throughout 2008, doing concerts, interviews and promotional work regarding our releases, and we will announce our resignation in good time." Darkane Post Studio Video Diary Part 3 Online

Drummer Peter Wildoer of the Swedish thrashers DARKANE has issued the following update from the recording sessions for the group's new studio album, due later in the year via Nuclear Blast Records:

"So finally the third video blog is done! It features me recording some drum parts and I hope you like it. The next video will feature guitar recording and will be up in a week or so. As you understand, the videos take some time to edit and that's why they are a bit behind what's actually happening in the studio. Currently Jens [Broman] is recording vocals in the studio and he sounds killer! We've done three songs so far and I'm very happy with the result. Previously this week we recorded strings, horns and tuba for the intro ('Variations of an Eye Crush') and a song called 'Execution 44'. What can I say?! Sounds fantastic! Christofer [Malmström, guitar] has done great arrangements, as always, for the orchestra. It's an honour to be able to be a part of his amazing work. If you liked our past intros, then you'll like this one as well. Also, all rhythm guitars are done and so are the melody/extra guitars. The bass is almost done, three more songs to go. As I said, we're doing vocals now and are mixing that with recording solo guitars when Jens needs a rest. Christofer has done some solos and he's on fire! Klas [Ideberg, guitar] still hasn't started but will do so this coming week." More...

Through The Eyes Of The Dead Loses Guitarist Again

Guitarist Richard Turbeville, who rejoined Through The Eyes Of The Dead in October, has apparently quit the group again. He will now focus on his other band, From Graves Of Valor. Turbeville had the following to say:

"It was nothing personal against any of those guys and I don’t hate them. I just have too many other things going on in my life right now that are more important to me. Plus musically, I feel that I fit in much better playing in Graves of Valor. Me and those dudes go way back and I feel like everything is more solid playing with them. Anyways, so that's what I chose to do."

Since dropping off the Throwdown and Soilwork tour earlier this month, it appears that Through The Eyes Of The Dead has also lost the services of recent recruit, drummer Lech, though nothing formal has been announced with regard to either him or Turbeville.

Anthrax Post New Song Clip Online

An audio clip of a rehearsal/demo version of a brand new ANTHRAX song, entitled "Fight 'Em 'Till You Can't Fight No More," can be heard on the intro page to the band's official web site. ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian previously described the track as "straight-up 1988[-style thrash] through a 2007 filter."

In a December 2007 online chat, ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante stated about the group's new material, "It's hard nowadays to try and relive 1986. We were different in 1986. We can reach inside and pull out some of the old school and make ourselves make that music, but we don't. The song 'Fight 'Em 'Till You Can't' is as organic as it gets; it's not forced and it is like an old-school thrash song."

New photos of the group can be found at this location. More...

Pain Link Part Ways With Drummer

Northern Kentucky thrash metallers PAIN LINK have announced the departure of original drummer Dave Bauer. According to the band, "Dave joined PAIN LINK in 2002 and played countless shows, lived through the highs and lows of rock 'n' roll, and knocked out three CDs with us. Dave is a great friend and a great talent. His skills and camaraderie will certainly be missed. The band would like to wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors."

The group continues, "It's with much enthusiasm we'd like to announce the newest member of PAIN LINK. Kevin 'Karnage' Coyle is the new monster behind the kit. Kevin has been playing drums for many years and has played drums in several local bands. His playing is intense and will definitely add a new texture to our sound. Some of his influences are: Trym (ZYKLON, EMPEROR, ENSLAVED), Nicholas Barker (BENEDICTION, DIMMU BORGIR, CRADLE OF FILTH), Martin Lopez (OPETH, AMON AMARTH), Reno H. Kiilerich (OLD MAN'S CHILD), Akira Jimbo, Tjodalv, Gerhard Storesund, Horgh, to name just a few. We're very excited to have Kevin on board and can't wait for everyone to hear the new lineup." Septicflesh Post New Songs Online

A brand new track from the reunited Greek demons SEPTICFLESH (now written as one word), entitled "Anubis", has been posted on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the group's new album, "Communion", which was released in Europe on March 17 (March 25 in the U.S.) via Season of Mist.

According to a press release, "Communion" "contains nine gates to unearthly dreams and nightmares. The 'rituals' of 'Communion' took place in the famous Studio Fredman in Sweden. The massive heavy guitar sound of the album is supported by a haunting triumphant orchestration that surpasses every past attempt of the band on that field. The classical arrangements are composed and directed by Chris Antoniou (guitar) and performed by the 80-piece full orchestra and 32-piece choir of philharmonic orchestra of Prague. As a result the music besides being brutal is also very 'visual,' like the soundtrack of an occult movie projected straight to your mind. Concerning the vocals, Seth is growling as a hellish beast in contrast with the melodic, yet intense and emotive vocals of Sotiris V. This album is definitely the more dark, brutal and at the same time avant-garde release of the band to date, crossing the borders of death and black metal. Yes, this album is not recommended to people resonating with holy ideals and bright emotions." More...

"Check them out on our page (they should be the top three songs in our player), and force everyone in a 10-30 foot radius of your computer to listen to them (at gunpoint, on loop, over and over again, mixed in with ABBA’s greatest hits, you know, to change it up a bit)."

Epica Vocalist Sits Out of North American Tour

Dutch metallers Epica have announced the following statement on their website:

"The extra weeks of rest, as a result of the cancellation of most of this month's shows, have helped Simone a lot in recovering from her MRSA infection. Three out of the four aspects in her latest test already showed negative, which is a major step forward! Unfortunately this also means that one of these still showed positive. As optimistic as we may be about these final test results, we just cannot risk her health by having her go on tour this soon already."

"We have come a great way already and we must continue this way to overcome this. Therefore we have decided to ask our good friend Amanda Somerville to substitute Simone on our upcoming USA tour. As you all know, Amanda has been involved with Epica from the beginning as a vocal coach and can also be heard on every album as backing vocalist as well as part of our choir. We are very happy that Amanda is willing to help us out on this and we are most positive that these extra weeks of rest will give Simone enough time to fully recover from this infection so that she can join us on stage again during our Dutch club shows."
