ANGER AS ART, the Los Angeles-based thrash metal band featuring Steve Gaines (ABATTOIR, BLOODLUST, PAGAN WAR MACHINE, DREAMS OF DAMNATION), entered CT Audio in L.A. last week to start recording the follow-up to their self-titled album. Entitled "Callous and Furor", the CD is tentatively scheduled for release in August via Old School Metal Records.
Commented Gaines: "The most important part of recording metal is starting with great drumming. It is the foundation on which the house stands. Mars [Castro; DEMOLITION, COFFIN TEXTS] came in and worked his ass off and laid down some of the most monstrous metal tracks ever recorded. Those who have seen him play, or heard his work with COFFIN TEXTS know exactly what to expect. Youll get that, and more. His footwork and explosive snare drum are right on the money. He was so well prepared that we finished drum tracks ahead of schedule, and started working on Javiers bass. He is about half done as well, and his playing and tones are thunderous. The album will consist of 13 songs. If you like thrash, you'll love this."
Upcoming ANGER AS ART shows:
Apr. 01 - Zen Sushi – Silverlake, CA (w/ IMPALER, DEKAPITATOR)
Jun. 17 - The Pound - San Francisco, CA (w/ POTENTIAL THREAT, KAOS)
More dates are being scheduled for early summer.
Rob Zombie's entire new album "Educated Horses," due on March 28 via Geffen Records, is available for streaming on MP3.com this week. The follow-up to 2001's "The Sinister Urge" was recorded at Los Angeles' Chop Shop Studios with co-producer Scott Humphrey, who had previously worked with Rob on the platinum hits "Hellbilly Deluxe" and "The Sinister Urge". Other musicians contributing to the CD include Josh Freese (A PERFECT CIRCLE, VANDALS) and Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE).

Agalloch have posted the track entitled 'Falling Snow' taken from thei forthcoming album 'Ashes Against The Grain'. You can listen to the song here.
Agalloch entered the studio to begin working on their 3rd full-length album entitled “Ashes Against The Grain” in December and was to be finished recording by mid-January. The band was working with Ronn Chick, who has engineered and produced both of their previous albums.
Commenting on the new material, guitarist/vocalist John Haughm: “It is huge, bleak, and more rock-based than previous albums. I am confident this will be our darkest and most sonically intense record yet.”
Swedish grindcore mainstays Regurgitate have entered the studio to record an as-yet-untitled new full-length album, their fourth for Relapse Records.
The quartet (Rikard Jansson: vocals / Urban Skytt (ex-Nasum): guitars / Jocke Pettersson: drums / Glen Sykes: bass) have been writing and rehearsing over the past couple of months for their follow-up to 2003’s Deviant. Regurgitate vocalist Rikard Jansson promises the new album will sound "A bit rougher and not too polished. It is grindcore after all." The Classic Struggle have announced that they will not tour with Exodus/Full Blown Chaos as planned. Several weeks ago their friend and drummer Tyler Solnosky suffered a severe head injury and has been confined to a hospital bed. Tyler is showing signs of recovery, but will remain in the hospital for an indefinite amount of time.
Not unlike most touring bands, Tyler is without medical insurance and is facing exorbitant medical expenses. The band has set up a PayPal account to collect donations. Please send PayPal donations to firstname.lastname@example.org. The band is also planning a series of benefit shows. More info will be released soon.
States the band: "We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers while Tyler recovers. Sorry about the shows and tour we have to cancel, but it wouldn't be right to leave him right now. Family comes first. We won't be gone for too long. Stay metal."
Missouri's Nervous Wreck, featuring former Saved By Grace and Eighteen Visions drummer Jason Shrout, will begin recording a new seven-song EP this week in Kansas City. Titled "American Heart," the release will feature two older demo tracks in addition to five new songs. The effort will be released late this spring via an undetermined label.
SONIC SYNDICATE guitarist and songwriter Roger Sjunnesson has recently updated the band’s website with information concerning the band’s forthcoming record.
"We have recently brought ”Sweden United - Metal Tour 2006” to a conclusion by nailing the last gig in Trollhättan. We send our many thanks to our partners in crime Avatar, Inevitable End, and of course all the people who came out to support us and the tour! Each gig was memorable and we look forward to playing more shows with our friends in both bands as well as the other bands we shared the stage with while on tour!"
“Inside the factory gates, the Sjunnesson clan prepare their next offensive on the metal world. The writing process for Eden Fire’s follow-up has begun! In other words, we have several new songs that will bitch-slap you back into yesterday! About eight songs are finished and some of the new titles include: “Phsycic Suicide,” “Blue Eyed Fiend,” “Callous,” and “Presence of Mind”. We’re currently rehearsing these babies to perfection, and it sounds marvelous!”
"At the moment we’re also looking for new places to perform at, so if you want us to play at the local confirmation ceremony, student party, or any other ”drink till you drop” event just drop us an e-mail. Unfortunately we won’t play at this years Lushusets Amici Festival here in Falkenberg. Possibly because we don’t want to draw all attention from Hardcore Superstars, OR because our drummer is in the northern part of Sweden testing his skiing mastery! But we will be seeing our fans in Denmark next month, so prepare for the Nordic invasion!"
SONIC SYNDICATE’s debut album, EDEN FIRE, which was recorded at Studiomega (The Crown, Lake of Tears, Beseech), has been re-released in Japan and select Asian territories through Soundholic Distribution. You can download two tacks from tehir debut effort here:

A brand new VOIVOD song, entitled "The X-Stream", has been made available for streaming at MP3.com. The track comes off the Canadian pioneering metal band's upcoming album, "Katorz", due in June on The End Records in North America and Nuclear Blast Records in Europe.
VOIVOD recorded and mixed the album with producer Glen Robinson (ANNIHILATOR, TEA PARTY, GWAR) at Multisons studio in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and mastered the CD in New York.
The follow-up to 2003's "Voivod", "Katorz" is the first album in the band's 20-plus-year career that did not feature founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour working alongside his bandmembers in the studio. D'Amour died August 26, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer.
In order to record "Katorz", drummer Michael "Away" Langevin, singer Denis "Snake" Belanger and bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted utilized all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death.
Christofer Johnsson, founder, songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist for the symphonic Swedish group THERION, has announced today via the band's official web site that he will be retiring from vocal duties. The following is an excerpt from his post:
"As was announced at the Metal Mania festivals, I am going to retire from vocals. The reasons for this are two: One is that I feel it's not fun to sing anymore (even though I have enjoyed playing the old songs on guitar). [My] voice is getting weaker over the years and I experienced problems at the end of the U.S./Canada tour. The problem isn't only getting older, but rather that we basically never rehearse as a band and therefore, I don't keep my throat 'warm.' It simply doesn't work to not sing for half a year and then go on tour for two months and shout every evening. It used to work when I was younger, but now I feel it's not comfortable anymore and when it doesn't feel right, it's definitely time to stop.
"The second reason is that we would like to stop playing old songs, anyway. By old I mean 'Lepaca Klifffoth' and older. We are now working on our 13th studio album and it is getting harder and harder to choose which songs to play live. The number of 'classics' — songs that we more or less must play — is growing all the time and we don't want to end up like one of those bands where you know beforehand 95% for sure what songs that are going to be played. We want to be able to have space to play a couple of unexpected songs each new tour. We, of course, realize that many fans will miss those old brutal songs, but we are convinced that those fans also will prefer to hear something new each time from the Theli album and onwards.
"The ProgPower festival in England will be the final show where I do vocals on stage. This will be our 106th and final show supporting 'Lemuria'/'Sirius B'. We will not be on stage again until 2007. I have planned a special surprise for this festival (not even the other band members know it), so don't miss this festival if you live in the U.K.!"
THERION will be releasing "Celebrators Of Becoming", a four-DVD+ two-CD set (featuring over ten hours of video footage and two hours of live audio) in North America on June 13. Artwork for "Celebrators Of Becoming" is available at this location (check under 2006 releases, then scroll down to June 13).

The band – who have already released two studio albums (2001's "Grand Opening and Closing" and 2004's "Of Natural History"), one live album (2003's "Live") and a DVD in 2005 — are currently working on new material and plan to release a new album on the label in the near future.

Five more bands have been confirmed for BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR, which takes place on 14th-15th July 2006. Vocalist/guitarist Matt Difabio of the Philadelphia-based metallers SINGLE BULLET THEORY has issued the following update on the band's current activities:
"As of now, SINGLE BULLET THEORY is finishing all the vocals [for the new album, 'The Killing Floor'] at Angry Chair Studios. The disc is VERY heavy and without a doubt will blow the last one ('Behind Eyes of Hatred') outta the water. We approached the song writing from a completely new approach this time and spent tons of time re-arranging and re working things that didn't fit 100%. There is a lot less experimental shit on the disc and more just balls out heaviness.
"The band has gotten a lot of flak over the years for trying some things that aren't in the 'typical metal' scheme. With this disc, we went back to the drawing board a few times till 'we got it right.'
"Since we have spent so much time trying to get this disc 'perfect,' we felt that it needed a mix that far exceeded anything we have done in the past. Originally, we planned on mixing it ourselves at Angry Chair but we feel we may be selling the disc a little short. So... we have decided that the best man for this job is none other then Eddy Garcia (PISSING RAZORS, MINISTRY). The disc will be sent down to El Paso, Texas in the coming weeks and Eddy will work his magic. Eddy is by far one of the most under-rated producers in metal and without a doubt will make this record stand out. More...

VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) has posted the following message on his official web site regarding the songwriting process for the band's second album:
"Had a great day in Drac Studios [Matt's studio] today [Friday, March 17] working with Duff [McKagan, VELVET REVOLVER bassist] on some songs. We are coming up with some breakthrough stuff. I'm getting excited. One song sounds like a cross between ZEPPELIN and PRINCE. Duff loves PRINCE. Great riff for Slash. Today we did one that is very heavy with a sick groove. With some synth keyboard part. A la a band called REFUSED. Who we all dig."
Duff McKagan told Launch Radio Networks on March 10 that the band will enter the studio on April 10 to begin recording their sophomore album. The group have been preparing songs since coming off the road last year and McKagan says the material is nearly ready to go. "It's real close, you know," he said. "The thing is, we always have way too much material, so it's probably more a matter of just like picking the right ones. It's a quality problem. This second record will be just an exploration, as opposed to like, 'Let's crush it and put it out,' it's gonna be exploration and I think people will really dig it."
VELVET REVOLVER's new effort will follow up their 2004 debut, "Contraband", which has sold nearly two million copies.
The band was formed in 2003 when former GUNS N' ROSES members McKagan, Slash and Sorum joined forces with guitarist Dave Kushner and ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland.
Danish metallers MERCENARY haqve parted ways with bassist Henrik "Kral" Andersen. "What might come as a big shock to everyone outside the band has however been apparent to the band for some time," the group write on their web site. "That said, we feel it’s important to state very clearly that we part ways as the best of friends and we all wish Kral the very best in his future life and pursuits. Kral will always be a part of the MERCENARY family and we thank him first of all for joining us all up in the band through the years, as well as for the lots and lots of cool, fun and unforgettable times. Kral is expected to give a statement shortly. The split has in no way affected the recording of the new album since the rest of the band have been working on the new material during the last couple of months in Kral's absence. All vocals (including shouts and screams) on the upcoming album will be done by Mikkel who is also responsible for lyrics this time. Furthermore the split will not affect the upcoming touring schedule in any way.
"As a consequence of Kral leaving the band we are searching for a new bass player/shouter/screamer. We have to state that we need a person that is able to do both and are not looking for two new members.
"The person we are looking for must fulfill these demands:
* Must have a deeply dedicated and serious mind.
* Must have 100 % devotion to the band
* Must be able to rehearse intensively in certain periods in MERCENARY's rehearsals near Aalborg, Denmark.
* Be a male between 20 - 35 years.
* Be able to growl, scream, do ‘melodic shouting’ and play the bass
* Be able to learn the old songs quickly
* Be able to restrict his drinking on tour/shows (No drinking before shows)
* Must have a personal image fitting a serious metal band
* be able and willing to tour extensively in periods
"Live and studio experience is an advantage but not a necessity.
"We would like to receive material from interested personas ASAP. Please send demos (CDs only) along with contact info and preferable also a recent picture to:
C/o Hvorupgårdvej 12
Alternatively, you can send mp3s to: email@example.com
"Serious applications only."
MERCENARY's as-yet-untitled fifth full-length album will be recorded in at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen (HATESPHERE, INVOCATOR, RAUNCHY). A late summer release via Century Media Records is expected.
MERCENARY's fourth full-length album, "11 Dreams", which was released in the U.S. in February 2005 via Century Media, was produced by Jacob Hansen and includes a cover version of KENT's hit single "Music Non Stop". Artwork duties were handled by Niklas Sundin (DARK TRANQUILLITY, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY).
Japanese metal act SIGH have signed a worldwide deal with The End Records. The band will release their seventh album, "Hangman's Hymn", sometime later this year.
The Japanese outfit has become one of the most respected and creative entities in the metal music scene thanks to the versatile and unique albums they have released, most notably 1997's black metal opus "Hail Horror Hail" and the psychedelic-tinged sounds of 2001's "Imaginary Sonicscape".
On the sound and direction of the new album, SIGH frontman/leader Mirai Kawashima said that "Hangman's Hymn" is "thrash metal meets German symphonies! Fast, heavy, bombastic and majestic!"
Love, Hope and Fear is releasing their follow-up to 2003's Rose EP (State of Grace Records) on Corvidae Artista Records. The record is entitled "GALE," features 10 tracks and will be released April 18th. A CD release show will take place on April 29th at The Pound SF with Set Your Goals, With or Without You, Crime in Stereo, Seize the Night (also releasing a CD), Comadre, and frisco favorites, Alcatraz.
To check out a few new songs and a video from "GALE," visit their MySpace Page.
Arch Enemy drummer Daniel Erlandsson has posted the following message on their website:
"Right now we’re getting ready to start rehearsing with the whole band for the upcoming Jägermeister tour with Chimaira, I’m looking forward to seeing all fans and friends on the road! We’ll play an hours worth of music every night (regardless if we are closing the show or not) on this tour. So if you’re coming to the show, save some headbanging for us!
"It’s been a while since we rehearsed with the full formation, so that’s gonna be fun! As you might know we’ve been working on completing the 'Live Apocalypse' DVD during this 'break' and we shot a video for 'My Apocalypse' too.
We’ve also written new material for the future, some really intense and heavy material I should add!
"In other news, I'll be doing some signing sessions at the Frankfurt Music Messe on April 1st… I'll be at Pearl 11 AM, and also at the Sabian booth at 3 PM – hope to see all you drum freaks there!'

Drummer Charlie Benante of Anthrax have posted the following message on the official Anthrax website:
"I want to start a Prog Rock Band! Who’s with me???
"Last night was inspirational... I was going to see Dream Theater play here in Chicago as I've never had the chance to see them live. It always seemed that our schedules never allowed for it, but tonight it all worked out. Mike [Portnoy, Dream Theater] called and asked if I'd like to come up and do a drum duet with him (he has 2 kits up there), 'FUCK YEAH, that sounds like fun'. Mike (as you all know) is a kick ass drummer and a great guy. We've been friends for a few years now and we share the same tastes in music, movies, drums and coffee (had to get that last one in).
"He basically told me the arrangement and sent me an MP3 of his solo; we needed to decide what we were going to throw in. I thought it would be cool if he did the beginning of INDIANS as a segue and he had the idea of me playing the beginning of 6:00. I think that was my favorite part, I loved playing that tune - now I have to learn the rest of it.
"I think this ranks up there with some of my favorite performances. Mike is a very giving drummer; it wasn't about blowing the other guy away or anything like that. It was two drummers having a ball doing what they do and letting the audience be a part of it... it’s as simple as that. I had such a blast doing this with him and the band and I thank those guys once again for an AWESOME SHOW!!!
"I love the fact that D. T. do not cater to radio, MTV - they do it their own way and I admire them for it. I looked out to the sold out crowd and thought - this is amazing! This is how it should be! Don't be surprised if you see Anthrax teaming up with them sometime in the future... hahaha
"The Deftones were in town last week and fucking ruled! This band has grown so much from when they toured with us back in 1995 - they have 'it'. I was bummed that they didn't play my favorite song 'Digital Bath' but I'll get over it. I can't wait for some new shit.
What else is going on?
We're chatting on Tuesday in the CDC.
I need to order a B I G G E R drum kit from TAMA!
Arctic Monkeys rock!
Designing a signature snare drum!
MAD TOYZ RULZ!
Robot Chicken on DVD later this month, I wanna do something on that show!
"My Daughter Rocks!
All That Remains drummer Shannon Lucas has posted the following update on the band's website:
"Sorry its been so long since the last update. We've been hard at work in the studio finishing up our new record that should drop around around July. We entered Zing studios in Ma. on March 06 with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Peter Witchers (ex-Soilwork) to record our third release on Prosthetic Records. So someone hacked the message board on the site so its currently busted and we are gettting that taken care of soon and the online merch page is also down. Sorry!
