Mesopotamian metal band Melechesh will enter the studio on April 10th to record their 5th album for a period of 4-5 weeks. The band has chosen to record the album in Istanbul in an attempt to capture the inspiring surroundings. Babajim Studios which opened their doors this week is run by some of the elite sound Engineers in Turkey. The currently untitled album is set to be released in the summer of 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Mainman Melechesh Ashmedi comments, "We have been looking for a place to record that can offer us an inspiring surrounding. We also decided to stay true to our spirits, to break the Mold (again) and also to defy the norm, hence we will record in Istanbul; you see the norm is to record westwards it is rather customary, we want to head eastwards. So, Istanbul seemed the best place since This is the city where the east and west meet, mesh, clash, blend, collide etc. and has been as such for milleniums. The music is definitely MELECHESH and as always, this album has its own characteristic."
The band is now locked again in the rehearsing studio with Guitarist Moloch arriving to Amsterdam next week from Virginia, USA. The song writing is 90% complete.
Danish metal band Konkhra has issued the following update:
"We are working on new songs, we started writing around Feb. 1st. and we already have 10 new songs/ideas, so it should be no problem to record sometime during the summer. The new shit is simpler in some ways, or maybe we just got more fine tuned between us, so the stuff seems more fluent and the lyrical content is almost channeled immediately into the song structure. Maybe last years visits to places like Mont Segur, Rennes Le Chateau, or Munich inspired this next release, or maybe the initiation process between The Masters Column and The Apprentices Column worked wonders fore there seems to be a natural flow of essence as if all we are and ever will be is predestined or at least preordained."
"Art is still but an Imitation of Life, lest we forget we are standing on the shoulders of Giants, or humbly trek through reptile footprints in our evolutionary path." More...

As a result of this cooperation, we have decided to release our official album, 'Decoding the Mainframe.' This release will contain all 8 songs from our self-released CD 'Architecture of Oppression' however, these are completely new versions of the songs! All songs are re-mastered and mixed by one of the best producers in the metal world - Dan Swano. There is no doubt that the production is absolutely amazing! We decided to improve the sound with slightly-modified arrangements of the songs, along with mixing and mastering… For now, I would say – this is our first 'official ' product that sounds as a high quality world class album should sound! Of course we've added several new things to make this release a bit, more special.
"We've improved album cover and the whole, CD layout; plus we have added more new pictures of the band along with a few-other new, bonuses. This new album will be arriving in stores this coming March. We have collaborated on a piece of work that we are all very proud of. With the help of Vic Records and Dan Swano, we have created a phenomenal album as it was originally intended to be. To our fans along the way - we once-again thank you for the continued support; we hope you enjoy 'Decoding the Mainframe' and look forward to your feedback. We are also confident that new listeners will appreciate the merit of our tireless efforts."

Acheron vocalist Vincent Crowley has issued the following announcement about the band appearing at the 2010 edition of the C.I.M. festival:
"It is official, black/death metal fiends Acheron have been booked for the 2010 C.I.M. fest! This will be the first time Acheron has played this festival and the band is very much looking forward to it. In 1991, Acheron released their Satanic album 'Rites of the Black Mass' which was the first time this blasphemous psychodrama was ever set to music! The Black Pope himself (Anton Szandor LaVey) declared Acheron to be one of the few real Satanic bands in the world in his last published book 'Satan Speaks.' Needless to say, this album has become an underground cult classic and is still hailed today!
"Due to the overwhelming response of 'The Last Rites' shows done a couple of years ago, when Acheron played the whole Rites of the Black Mass album in its entirety, the band has agreed to do one last show at the C.I.M. Fest. In fact, Acheron also plans to perform the whole Black Mass on stage and film it for what will hopefully be an upcoming DVD release. So to all you underground metal fans and unholy Satanic warriors, you are invited to come to the Sabbath! This may be the last time you ever get to see Acheron play and perform the Rites of the Black Mass live! Come one, come all! Ad Maiorem Satanae Gloriam!"
Additional information on the festival can be found at this location.
Carnal Decay are the latest act to be confirmed for Switzerland's Meh Suff Festival, which is set to take place on September 10th and 11th, 2010. More details on the festival can be found here. The other currently announced bands are as follows:

Dew Scented (DE)
Jack Slater (DE)
Negura Bunget (RO)
Septycal Gorge (IT)
New York thrashers Castrofate have issued the following statement about their canceled show that was schedule to take place on Saturday, March 20th:
"Hey everyone, we're very sorry to announce that there was a problem with tonight's venue, we are being told now at the last minute by the fire department and the club's owner that we cannot have a show there. We did everything in our power to move it to a close-by location, but there is nothing available. We are postponing our NYC show. We will let you know when the next date is set up. Thanks so much for all of your continued support and we will see you again soon. We are going to focus on recording and hopefully very soon we will have our new tour date(s)."
You can also check out Castrofate's music at their MySpace page.
Guitarist Lasse Pyykkö of Finnish metal act Vacant Coffin has issued the following update about putting the band on hold indefinitely:
"Since I have found playing in Vacant Coffin not enjoyable anymore, it seems that folding the band for undefined time is the right thing to do. It is unsure when and if we will return. I am executing my grinding, crusty death metal compulsions in my new band Swarming with Rogga Johansson (Paganizer etc.). Anyhow, the birth of Swarming has nothing to do with the decision of having a break with Vacant Coffin. Rogga and I have been wanting to collaborate for a long time, so it was only a matter of time.
"Thanks to all the people that have supported Vacant Coffin!!! As for the final words I just have to quote Candid Camera a bit: Someplace when you least expect it, someone from the sewer steps up to you and says: DIE! IT IS SEWER ROT TIME AGAIN! You can still order 'Sewer Skullpture' LP and CD from us. To order the LP send us an E-mail: scabsfordinner @ hotmail.com."
Italy's Eat Me Clown has issued the following update about parting ways with their guitarist and seeking a replacement:
"For business reasons, with great sorrow Henry is forced to leave the band. We are therefore looking for a new guitarist, which is equipped with good technique, with its own instruments, available for Italian and foreign travel. Refrain cazzaro and time consuming! Rehearsal room in Asolo (TV). If interested please contact: Ioan 338-5825417, Richard 333-9499791, E-mail: email@example.com. Henry still is committed to playing a large part of the dates already scheduled, pending the replacement."
Eat Me Clown is also currently streaming the song "Son of an Owl" online through their MySpace page.
A few months ago we took a look at Judas Priest, one of the most important and many would say greatest bands in the history of heavy metal. However in the early 1990s, the groups lead vocalist Rob Halford decided to quit the band and pursue other musical interests. The most controversial of these, was Two (sometimes written as 2wo), an industrial metal band he formed alongside guitarist John Lowery.
The band was formed by Halford and Lowery in 1997 after Halford decided not to continue his previous band, Fight. They quickly found themselves signed to Nothing Records, which was founded by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and released their Reznor produced debut album, "Voyeurs" the following year. It was around this time that Halford first openly stated that he was homosexual and the band worked with gay porn director Chi Chi Laurue for their music video "I Am A Pig." The band received a harsh backlash from long time fans of Rob Halford, who wanted to hear more of a traditional heavy metal style and concert attendence was generally poor, coupled with the problem of audience members shouting for the band to perform Judas Priest songs. A music video and single release was planned for the song "Stutter Kiss" as it had featured on the soundtracks for a few movies, however this idea was scrapped due to the albums poor commercial performance.
Although there was talk of the band recording a second studio album for a different label, it was not meant to be. Halford disbanded Two in 1998 and formed a new band, simply named Halford which was more in the vein of the traditional heavy metal sound for which he was known. John Lowery went on to become the guitarist for Marilyn Manson and later Rob Zombie. Since the bands demise, the "Voyeurs" albums has gained a cult following among fans of industrial metal and Rob Halford, with Halford saying he would like to release the demos the band did for the album as they were apparantly heavier and more metal sounding, claiming Trent Reznor had too much control over the production for "Voyeurs." Reznor himself has disowned the album and when questioned about it, has been very critical of the record. More...
Wisconsin's Sleep Serapis Sleep has issued the following statement about recruiting a new guitar player:
"After Julian and Roy’s departure, our good friend, and former From All Within guitarist Kyle 'Rich' Yocum, has joined the band. We’re already started writing new material and we really like the new direction. We've already had a couple tryouts to fill the other guitarist position but if you would like to tryout, contact us to set something up. Stay tuned for new songs in the coming months, and we do not expect delays or cancellations for our upcoming shows."
Sample Sleep Serapis Sleep tracks are available for streaming via the band's official MySpace page.
Canadian ambient black metal act Kuldakaust is currently offering both the original lo-fi and new cleaned up version of their first demo as a free MP3 download. The powers that be must have known that March is Metalunderground.com's anniversary when setting up March Is Metal month. This month, Metalunderground.com is celebrating its ninth anniversary. I really don't know where the time goes. Unlike the prior year when we had a lot of technical updates to the site, the biggest improvements to Metalunderground.com in this past year have been the additions to our staff. We've grown by a large number of writers and are more thoroughly covering the full range of metal genres in news, reviews, and interviews, with the quality improving in every area as well. For the first time ever, our reviews section is running at full throttle, with at least one new review posted each day (so check out our new reviews if you haven't been paying attention), and we've introduced a number of weekly columns such as Sunday Old School, Unearthing the Metal Underground and the The Rockstar Ramblings, which seem to be popular with our readers.
We also launched a metal discussion forum last summer, which has been a hit and seen many new and old members come together to discuss metal and other topics and help each other discover new metal bands.
Since the site's inception, we've posted over 54,000 news articles, covered nearly 9,000 bands that are in our database, and reviewed nearly 1,000 metal releases. We currently serve well over 700,000 page views per month to over 250,000 visitors.
As we move into our tenth year, I am very excited about how far Metalunderground.com has come. I want to thank all of our writers and contributors for making Metalunderground.com one of the top metal sites around. I also want to thank all of our readers, and especially those who have made Metalunderground.com their metal destination of choice, for making it one of the best communities to participate in. Even as the owner, I enjoy reading the contributions of our staff and discussing metal news with our readers on a daily basis.
I want to especially acknowledge five of our oldest active members, who have been visiting since 2004 and 2005 - more than five years (maybe earlier, as we did not launch with a membership feature!):
KMADD - member since September 20, 2004
Emperor4Ever - member since September 28, 2004
pneumonic - member since January 21, 2005
BLACKDOG - member since February 26, 2005
bradispissed - member since March 3, 2005
Thanks for sticking with Metalunderground after all these years. (I'll be contacting each of you by email to get your address for the promised prize packages).
And to the rest of our readers: stick around, there are many more good things to come!
Australia’s Parkway Drive has announced plans to return to the studio to record their third studio album, which is expected to be released later this summer via Epitaph Records. The long-awaited follow-up to 2007’s breakout album "Horizons" was written in the band’s hometown of Byron Bay over the past six months and will be recorded in Los Angeles with producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion) over the coming weeks.
“Writing with a concept in mind has given us more direction,” explains Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall. “Every song on this album was created with a definite purpose, as opposed to just writing a riff and building on that.”
While McCall concedes the album’s basic narrative – the tale of a man lacking direction in life who goes looking for answers at the bottom of the sea – is “kind of bizarre,” he says the concept was flexible enough to open itself up to many far-reaching ideas.
“The ocean is where I find the most clarity,” says the former bodyboard champion. “To go to the beach and sink into the water, the sound cuts out and you can just forget about everything. So I guess the concept is about cutting out everything and focusing on what’s inside yourself.”
“This is the heaviest thing we’ve written, and at the same time the catchiest,” McCall warns. “And while we always want to keep the definitive Parkway Drive sound, there are a couple of things that will hopefully add another dimension to what we do.”
Having recorded their first two albums with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage), the forthcoming album finds Parkway Drive turning to seasoned veteran Joe Barresi. Known for his work with big-league rock acts including Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion and Tool, Barresi will handle the recording and mix at his home studio, JHOC (Joe’s House of Compression) in Los Angeles, before renowned mastering engineer Brian Gardner (Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God, Nine Inch Nails) applies the finishing touches in Hollywood.
By that time Parkway Drive should be back on the road again. First stop is Europe and the UK throughout April and May, where they’ll play their biggest headlining dates so far, before they make their anticipated return to the US for this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

I have always had a soft spot for W.A.S.P. as the "Crimson Idol" is my second favorite metal album of all time after Faith No More's "Angel Dust." They're a legendary name in metal circles since 1984, W.A.S.P. to this day still manage to put out quality heavy metal while many of their 80s peers have stagnated or worse. Thankfully, W.A.S.P. is still together, still touring and while they may not have the same amount of popularity that they have in North America that they have in Europe, W.A.S.P. still manages to put on a kickass show twenty-eight years into their career.
