"A distinctive trademark that sets TÝR appart from most other bands of the "Viking Metal" genre is the autheticism of their music: "Traditional music dating back to the Vikings, that is not preserved anywhere else in the world, not even in Iceland, is passed on in an oral tradition here and it is still alive and well. That is what we build our music on and draw great inspiration from" explains Heri Joensen, singer and guitarist of TYR
Almost every song on "Land" is based on Faroese or Norwegian lore, and is revetted in the garb of the Folk Metal genre. Its approach unmistakenly creates a very true Viking Metal.
Traditional Faroese lyrics mark tracks such as "Gátu Ríma", "Fípan Fagra" and "Lokka Táttur", and "Gandkvæði Tróndar", which is a poem by J.H.O. Djurhuus about the Faroese chieftain Tróndur, who fought against the dying of the old beliefs and for the independence of the Faroes. "Sinklars Vísa" is a Norwegian traditional song based on the true story of Scottish mercenaries killed when trying to disturbe the peace in Norway.
While most lyrics contain traditional stories about the Norse pantheon and the Viking age, some topics are more earthbound: "Ocean" explores the reasons why Scandinavians sailed westwards to the Faroes, a question that to this day remains unanswered by historians and archeologists alike. And "Valkyrjan" tackles the unheroic side of war, reflecting on the feelings of futility men face on the battlefield.
Musically "Land" guards the essence of that most sacred to TÝR: Heroic Viking Metal, highly influenced by Scandinavian traditionals and combined with contemporary metal.
Land hits the streets on 30 May and will be available as regular jewel case edition and a limited edition deluxe digipack including a bonus DVD of the very memorable gig at Wacken Open Air.

GENGHIS TRON was in a freak van accident yesterday and, although all passengers are OK, the band’s van and trailer are in need of serious repair forcing the band to cancel their shows in Butler, PA last night and Philadelphia, PA tonight.
Genghis Tron issued the following statement this morning regarding the accident: “"Deja vu. For the second time in Genghis Tron's career we got into a pretty harrowing car accident. Yesterday afternoon while driving on I-71 in Ohio, the rear right wheel of our van decided to jump ship. We spun out across three lanes of busy traffic and landed in a ditch in the median. Somehow we managed to avoid all other cars and luckily no one was injured, but our van and trailer have certainly seen better days.”

Every little bit helps... thanks in advance and make sure your tires aren't dickwads like ours! “ More...
Stereogum has premiered the viral version of The Sword's new video for "Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians." The video is set in a post-apocalyptic world, thousands of years after the end of human civilization. A new race is born - one that has no idea that man had once ruled. The directors, Mike Colao and Josh Litwhiler, used a technique called "rotoscoping", where they traced over live-action film movement, frame by frame. The result is a visually captivating look into what could be the future of the human race as we know it.
Yesterday also marked the release of the band's two-song, 10" picture disc. Although already sold out through Kemado, you can purchase the songs on iTunes.

CELTIC FROST mainman Tom Gabriel Fischer has posted this message on his official blog:
"Last August, I began working as an assistant to HR Giger and his wife, Carmen.
"In the course of my work for Giger, I spent this past Monday at the stunning Giger Museum in Gruyères in the French part of Switzerland, together with Carmen and André, one of the other assistants. We were there to discuss the events planned for the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of the museum in June 2008. It was a very long day, and before we embarked on the two-hour drive back to Zurich in the cold and rainy night, Carmen invited me to complete my collection of Giger books from the stocks of the museum shop.
"I am extremely hesitant in situations like these, because I know that Giger's immense generosity has been taken advantage of unfairly far too many times in the past. I view my work for Giger not as a chance to gain as much as possible from him but rather as an opportunity to reciprocate for his friendship and his incredible mentorship of our band at a time when hardly anybody else believed in us. But Carmen insisted, and even though I am still looking for quite a few Giger books, I eventually took only two, a softback and a hardback.
"We arrived back at Giger's home sometime before 1AM on Tuesday morning. I intended to leave for my own home immediately, but Carmen took my books and said she would ask Giger to sign them. Again, even though I know that Giger is usually awake and active throughout the night, I was very reluctant about disturbing him. The books were a gift enough as it was. Once more, Carmen insisted and disappeared with the books. When she came back, she said: 'Look in the hardback. He hardly ever writes something like that.' I was stunned. Giger had penned a deeply touching personal dedication which left me utterly speechless.
"I have admired his art ever since I was a child. He is truly one of the most extraordinary human beings I have ever known. And the same applies to Carmen and his American agent, Les Barany."
According to Christian Metal News, a new black metal documentary, entitled Light in Darkness - Nemesis Divina, is currently in the works. However, what separates this documentary from countless others that have explored black metal's controversial aspects is that the focus is not on the satanic spectra of the genre, but the opposite - the Christian concept of black metal. Producer Stefan Rydehed, who recently finished completed work on the Pure Fucking Mayhem documentary, which focused on the Norwegian black metal band MAYHEM, and David Nilsson have set their sights on the Scandinavian Christian scene, with particular focus on such bands as CRIMSON MOONLIGHT, ADMONISH and FROSTHARDR.
Rydehed comments: "The topic is very interesting because the genre has a major contradiction because it has evolved from the Satanic black metal and there have been death threats, church arsons, murders and so on but never have there been a documentary about the Christian bands and their point of view of the music genre."
A trailer of this documentary is available below: More...
