The Michigan local metal scene has spawned one of the more compelling acts with Lansing's mosh inducing Under One. The group since inception has stayed true to the great metal that came before it . The band is fronted by Jeremiah Devil, one of underground metal's more entertaining personalities. Citing key influences like Black Sabbath, Crowbar, Demolition Hammer, Down, Disturbed and Helloween, I had a cool time stepping into the fire with Mr. Devil and picking at his skull to learn all I could about Under One. Misery Signals has released more information regarding their new vocalist, Karl Schubach. Hailing from Saskatchewan, Canada, Schubach was a guitarist prior to joining the band and has never before fronted a group. Misery Signals bassist Kyle Johnson had the following to say regarding Schubach:
"He sent over an MP3 of him singing one of our songs and it floored us! From there we sent him a new song and he responded almost immediately and we loved what he did with the song."
Schubach will appear on the group's upcoming Warped Tour stint this summer, in addition to a headlining tour with Black My Heart, Too Pure To Die, and Burn In Silence in April. Meanwhile, Misery Signals will enter the studio with producer Ben Schigel (Ringworm, Chimaira) in May to begin recording their second full-length, which will hit stores this fall via Ferret Music.

On August 29th, hurricane Katrina swept through the city of New Orleans, taking lives, property, and the hearts of many through its tremendous winds and deluge. Also lost in the storm was a once vibrant all ages scene that revolved around Cypress Hall in New Orleans’ largest suburb of Metairie. Now, almost seven months later, the original promoters return with a newer, better venue, aptly named The High Ground.
With the opening of The High Ground, New Orleans’ all ages scene returns to prominence with a first-rate venue offering quality sound, dynamic lighting, and a professional atmosphere. Catering to a vast array of music that varies from metal, punk, ska, rock, emo, and various sub-genres, The High Ground remains open to signed as well as unsigned bands. The venue has also been a breeding ground for local artists just beginning their careers in the music scene.
Signed bands who have frequented the establishment in the past include: Darkest Hour, The Know How, Dead to Fall, Soilent Green, Streetlight Manifesto, As Cities Burn, Curl Up and Die, Goatwhore, The Higher, Bedlight for Blue Eyes, Embrace Today, The Red Death, Cannae, Minus, The Street Dogs, Dr. Chud's X Ward, The Red Chord, Shattered Realm, Ramallah, Diecast, Hoods, Jacknife, The Banner, The Absence, The Black Dahlia Murder, Premonitions of War, Beyond All Reason, Bloodjinn, Houston Calls, Adelphi, Buried Inside, Action, The Unseen, Defiance, The Ghouls, and Voodoo Glow Skulls.
The venue remains dedicated to the massive recovery of Hurricane Katrina. They ask that booking agents and bands add this venue as a regular stop on their touring schedules; that labels and bands donate CDs, DVDs, posters, shirts, and other items to those who lost their entire music collection; and music supply companies donate equipment to those who lost their gear in the flooding and looting.
Please get in touch with email@example.com or myspace.com/thehighgroundvenue to schedule a date, donate items, or find out how you can help in the recovery of the New Orleans all ages scene.
NO RETURN's video for the song "Don't Judge Me" can be downloaded at VS-webzine.com. The clip was directed by Julien Metternich (THE OLD DEAD TREE, KAIZEN, DAYLIGHT DIES) and features actress Renata Bellmonbo in the main role.

Germany's DEADSOIL have completed work on their new album, "Sacrifice", due on May 26 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and on May 29 in the rest of Europe via Lifeforce Records. The follow-up to 2004's "The Venom Divine" was recorded in January at Principal Studios (CALIBAN, WATERDOWN) in Senden by Vincent Sorg, mixed by KATAKLYSM's Jean-Francois Dagenais and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, Tenafly, NJ.
Commented DEADSOIL guitarist Boris Pracht: "Finally it's about time to release the result of over one year of hard work, lots of sweat and long rehearsal room nights. We are very proud of what has turned into our new full length called 'Sacrifice' and we can't await to see this record to be put out! It's hard to compare it to our last effort, 'The Venom Divine', because a lot has changed. It became more aggressive and more metal than ever before. So i think all our hard work and heartblood was really woth it... this is our sacrifice!"

"So we are in our third week of recording and we are currently tracking vocals and lead guitars," drummer Ben Murray says. "Everything is coming along great and the songs are sounding epic! SLAYER's longtime manager Rick Sales had previously commented on the tour, "We want to make 'The Unholy Alliance' tour an annual global event, so we decided to be smart about the design from the beginning. We chose to book most of the tour's shows at indoor venues, as that allows the bands and the fans amenities like air conditioning and indoor bathrooms, as well as the very best stage lighting, production, and sound and less expensive concession prices. The few shows that will be played outside will be played at night in permanent facilities with our lighting, production, and so on. Everyone wins."
