Act of Destruction is a local technical death/thrash band from Chicago Illinois. I had the opportunity to see them play live at the Bottom Lounge with an Israeli metal band known as Orphaned Land, and at the Pearl Ballroom in Moneka Illinois with folk Metal’s Alestorm and Tyr. Lead guitarist John Bravo got it right when he said that no two songs by them sound the same. In this day of age, when there are plenty of bands competing for a record label deal, having the versatility in their songwriting will most certainly make Act of Destruction stand out from the competition. Currently, Act of Destruction is in a time of transition, as they are seeking a new guitarist. Any and all information can be found on their MySpace. More...

ANATHEMA has announced the release of their 8th studio album, "We’re Here Because We’re Here," which will be released on May 31st via Kscope Records.
Danny Cavanagh comments on the new album, "'We’re Here Because We’re Here' is Anathema’s most expansive album to date and by the far best thing we’ve ever done. Not only have we improved as writers, but because we took our time, we had the opportunity to select the very best material and concentrate on it. We gave the songs the chance to breathe and come alive by themselves and it’s ended up being magical – every song is as good as the rest of them. This album features the best performances by the band ever; Vincent’s greatest vocals and John’s and my best writing" More...
Despite Killswitch Engage continuing to their tour with All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte in light of Howard's unexpected departure, the band was joined onstage this week by former frontman Jesse Leach during a performance at The Filmore New York at Irving Plaza.
Some footage was caught of the show by a photographer:
Photographer Will Hawkins comments on the video: "As for the focus & sound quality... Dudes... It was on a DSLR right against the stage with built-in mic. I'm not a videographer, but I wanted to snag some vid just to share with YOU.... so deal ! ;)"
Hard partying rock icons Keel have come back together for a 25th anniversary reunion to rock the world again in a string of festival appearances. Not content to simply rehash the past however, the band has also put out an entirely new album "Streets of Rock and Roll." Front man Ron Keel commented on the creation of the album, "Immediately after the first couple of rehearsals we started coming up with some songs. The energy was flowing and the excitement was there. It felt like 20 years had just melted away. We thought we had a few songs that could be the foundation for a strong album and that’s when we decided to pull the trigger and make a new album."
Ron and I spoke at length about the new album and the re-released version of their flagship album "The Right to Rock," which features fans singing with the band on the title track. We also discussed the long history of the band, Ron's other projects, and his thoughts on rock and roll parody/tribute act Steel Panther. More...

"We also have a couple weekends worth of shows in the next month with The Last Felony & Threat Signal. If you are in the London, Windsor, Sarnia or St.Catherines area be sure to make it out to a show they are gonna be brutal."

Pittsburgh's Crown the Lost has issued the following update about recruiting a new drummer and vocalist:
"In a move that was a long time coming, we'd like to welcome Argel Marchelletta into the CTL fold as our full-time drummer. Argel's initial capacity was that of a fill-in to help us prepare for album #3, but he was so impressive that we had no choice but to ask him to join. Fortunately for us, he accepted. On a related note, singer Chris Renaldi has left the band in order to pursue his own project. As the only singer this band has ever had, Renaldi's vocals were an integral part of the Crown the Lost sound and we're eager to hear what he has in store for his new musical endeavor.
"Here are some words from Renaldi: 'After four and a half years with the same group of people, people and ideas tend to grow and change. Due to this, it became difficult for me to see eye-to-eye with other members of the band. However, this is nothing that would force me to harbor ill-will towards the band itself. It's too hard to despise something you helped to shape and mold, and besides that, my time had expired. I wish the best for Crown the Lost, as I plan on doing something on my own (musically, that is). Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who had lent their ears to the music that we wrote. After all, it was you guys who made it all worth the while.'
"Renaldi's replacement comes in the form of Leon Mallah, a converted guitarist from fellow Pittsburgh metallers In the Wake, who are coincidentally the same band we poached Argel from. Judging from the last few months of rehearsal, Leon's vocals will stay true to the clean vocal template of our sound, but will also add new twists and variations. Leon's live debut with the band should be in May. Additional details on our forthcoming third album, Cold Pestilent Hope will be released in the very near future."
German metallers Varg have issued the following announcement about canceling their previously announced appearance at the Ragnarok Festival:
"After Ragnarök Festival announced in a statement that Varg will perform there with a different line, is the refusal of the performance, the only acceptable result for us. We are a band together and stand, our occupation, we let ourselves be dictated by anyone. We are sorry for the fans who were looking forward to our gig! The free time this weekend, we now use for a gig at the Fiesta Pagana in Switzerland, including The Exploited, Equilibrium and Impaled Nazarene. We look forward to one of the 5 Metalfest open airs, Metal Camp, Rock Harz, Wacken, Party San, or no later than the Time of the Wolf! Until then!"

New Brunswick's RUSTED DAWN have just announced their six week cross-Canada tour in support of their upcoming release, "The Black Tides of War," which is scheduled for release in North America by the east coast metal label, Diminished Fifth Records on March 30th.
"After having to cancel our Canadian tour last year, it's time for sweet, sweet redemption.” commented Jeremy Goddard who provides vocals and guitar for Rusted Dawn. “We've all been waiting for this for a very long time, and all the months of slaving at shitty jobs in preparation for this moment are finally going to be worth it. I can't wait to get out there and show the country what this band is capable of on a large-scale assault." Fellow guitar shredder and brother Justin added “I can't wait to shred right across this country and see what the west coast has for burger and burrito joints! Can you really think of three better things? Burger, burritos, and 2 months of obnoxiously loud metal." More...

UK metal band Sacred Mother Tongue has issued the following update:
"It’s been a hell of a long time since our last video release, and after our mis-fortune with the last attempt we have been planning it carefully. Of course when Two Thousand Eight Hundred was made we really had no money or in fact no idea what we were doing, so it was a small miracle that it came out ok, and actually made it on screen with Scuzz and MTV2. So our follow up video for Anger on Reflection was on a bigger budget and was meant to be the business… however due to directorial differences between the film makers and ourselves, we decided to pull the video from You Tube after a short two weeks and it was never submitted to the TV stations." Denver metal band Havok has issued the following new album update:
"Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this Sun of ours. After over a year of tensions, ruptures, struggles, and a staggering amount of intense work, time has now come to reveal the title of HAVOK's sophomore full-length album."
"STATUES OF SISYPHUS represents to us the experience of human existence. With others, with ourselves. The cyclical rise and fall, the Ourobouros of meaninglessness and mundanity. What we are, what we were, what we will remain. A worn philosophical symbol perhaps, but none the less potent, none the less real as it has been proved to us over and over again.
The music we will present to you is a logical continuation of our earlier works, as well as a massive leap forward, in all directions. Extreme? Yes; over-the-top velocities, stupefying guitar work and insane vocals guaranteed. Progressive? In several senses. Death Metal? In lack of better terms, yes. The album will be produced by Andreas Wiberg (previous member of The Shattering) in coalition with ourselves, and released by ViciSolum Productions as 2010 falls (say, November). A few of the song titles are: 'Linear Existence,' 'The Glacial Face,' 'Grey Eyes, Golden Skin,' 'Carver Of Lies,' and 'Unventured Thoughts.'"
"We are set to commence the drum production on March 22. More information will be revealed as we go along."

On March 6, 2010 I went to see Kreator perform at the Nokia Theater in New York City. I was very eager to see Evile, Voivod, and Kreator. I have been a fan of Kreator for some time now, but have only heard one album, “Extreme Aggression.” Evile is a band I was interested in seeing because I have their demo, but have yet to explore much outside of what is on their MySpace page. Voivod has been recommended to me by friends, but I’ve never taken the time to properly explore them. When I arrived at the venue, Lazarus A.D. started playing. More...
