Rising British metallers MALEFICE are currently putting the finishing touches on their live DVD recorded on January 30 concert at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, UK. Taken from the same show will be their new video for "Dreams Without Courage" (featuring a guest appearance by Justin Hill, formery of SIKTH), which should be ready to air by mid-April.
This year is set to be even busier for MALEFICE as, not content with setting up a lot more dates (expect news soon), recording and mixing the DVD, and negotiating possible dates in the USA, they are more than half way through writing a new album. This is due to be recorded by WellerHill, who also worked with MALEFICE on their debut album, "Entities". The initial recording sessions are set to take place in May. A fall release via AntiCulture Records is expected.
Reunited Swedish thrashmongers DECEIVER are back and have signed a record deal with Pulverised Records. Slated for a new album for the summer of 2008, the effort will simply be entitled "Thrashing Heavy Metal." Expect more details to be announced in time to come.
Wisconsin-based death metallers JUNGLE ROT have issued the following update:
"We've been negotiating with labels and it's going well. Pretty sure we're locked in with one, but can't make any official announcement until the deal is sealed."
"The new songs we're writing have been coming together nicely; we're having a blast with it and should have some fun stuff coming up."
"There is a possibility we might be releasing another DVD, either that or a DVD will be coming out with the new album. We'll see how that one pans out." More...
Steamhammer/SPV recently announced the signing of shock-rock icon Alice Cooper. The label from Hanover, Germany, has agreed on a worldwide contract with the legendary American star. Autumn 2008 will see the arrival of the eagerly awaited new studio album, which Cooper began recording in February. The working title of the upcoming release is "Along Came A Spider." The album is being co-produced by Greg Hampton and Danny Saber in Los Angeles.
Alice Cooper ranks among the top echelon of great rock stars who first achieved success in the Seventies and who are still actively touring and recording. His spectacular live shows, skillfully staged using visual effects, elaborate outfits, his trademark make-up and props including guillotines, gallows, electric chairs, snakes, and plenty of blood, are legendary, and he has recorded a myriad of celebrated worldwide classic hits including, among others, 'I'm 18,' 'School's Out,' 'Elected,' 'No More Mr. Nice Guy,' 'Billion Dollar Babies,' 'Only Women Bleed,' 'I Never Cry,' 'Poison,' 'Bed Of Nails,' 'Hey Stoopid,' and 'Feed My Frankenstein.' He has long enjoyed a reputation as a musical enfant terrible, an artist who has been described as "a chaotic reflex of the electronic age" by the media and referred to himself as the "end product of an affluent society."
Alice's "Nights With Alice Cooper" syndicated classic rock radio show continues to air Monday through Friday on 90 stations throughout North America plus outlets in Australia, Ireland, the UK, and other countries. And the paperback edition of his recent "Golf Monster" book hits the stores in May 2008.
Cooper will interrupt the current studio production for March shows in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, and plans extensive touring later in 2008 covering Europe, Canada, and the USA. His band features longtime drummer Eric Singer, guitarists Keri Kelli and Jason Hook, and bassist Chuck Garric.
Having made additional progress on the recording of vocals, Crown the Lost have issued yet another studio update from the recording session of their upcoming new album, "Blind Faith Loyalty:"
"Alas, some tangible progress has been made on the vocal front. After some male bonding sessions between Renaldi and Watson (lots of hand-holding, hugs, and tears, especially on Watson’s part) we are now halfway done with recording of the vocals.
"A notorious slow-starter, Renaldi has swung into a nice little groove, with his vocals coming out unbelievably well, sounding like a deranged cross between Dickinson, Belladona, and Mike Reno of Loverboy. Uh, scratch the Loverboy comparison....
"Nevertheless, we’re all enthused about the progress we’re making. We’re fairly cognizant of how our vocals work within our style and it was something we decided to make priority 1 when writing these new songs.
"Word on the street is that we’ll have a rough track up next week. I sure hope so - I’m tired of talking about something that we have no evidence of..."
Steamhammer/SPV have confirmed the release dates for ICED EARTH’S new single, "I Walk Among You" as follows:
Germany - June 13, 2008
Europe - June 16, 2008
USA/Canada - June 17, 2008
The full-length studio follow-up to "Something Wicked Part I" is due for release in fall of 2008.
As previously reported, the new single and proceeding full-length studio album mark the return to the band of longtime frontman Matt Barlow, The single will allow fans to get a glimpse of the bright future for the band, and the perhaps not-so-bright future for humanity as we now know it.
The single will feature three songs, an exclusive version of the song "I Walk Alone" and a few tracks from "Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1)" with new vocal performances by Matt Barlow. Due to the re-tracking of the lead vocals these tracks have been remixed and remastered. There will be an iTunes-exclusive version of the single "I Walk Among You" that features "A Charge To Keep," which has also been re-sung by Matt, remixed and re-mastered.
The video for "I Walk Alone" is being filmed in early April.
Here is the "I Walk Among You" single's track listing:
01. I Walk Alone
02. Setian Massacre
03. The Clouding
04. A Charge to Keep (exclusive iTunes track)
Norway’s KEEP OF KALESSIN have announced June 10th as the North American release date for the band’s “Kolossus” release. This will be hot on the heals of their tour with DIMMU BORGIR and BEHEMOTH (dubbed the “Invaluable Darkness Tour Part 2”) happening this April into early May. Founding guitarist Obsidian C. had this to say about the bands new North American activity:
“We're very excited about finally touring the US after 13 years in the band's existence. Being support for juggernauts as DIMMU BORGIR and BEHEMOTH just makes this a unique opportunity for KEEP OF KALESSIN to show ourselves to the US audience.
"Also, the partnership with NUCLEAR BLAST will prove invaluable for the band's conquering of America and will definitely prove to be the highlight in our career so far!”
Here are the latest Invaluable Darkness 2 tour dates, featuring Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth and Keep Of Kalessin: More...
Los Angeles' ANTAGONIST has posted another video update from inside the studio, while the band is recording their Prosthetic Records debut, Exist.

TURBONEGRO were forced to cancel their European tour due to guitarist Knut "Euroboy" Schreiner being ill.
He has now issued the following update:
"I just wanted to say a few words about how sorry I am about the whole situation. First of all, I’m doing alright now, staying at home with my family and feeling OK, but I’ll be going trough treatment in the near future."
"I was really looking forward to going on this tour and kicking ass night after night in true, classic Turbonegro style, together with two other great bands. I’m sure we’d all have had a real cool tilme. Now my life has suddendly almost turned upside down and I won’t be able to tour or perform for a while. I can still play guitar of course, so I’ll work on some new "hot licks" and maybe write a couple of new songs (some top-of-the-mountain emotional power ballads that is, no just kidding!)."
Metal is going to hit Stevens Point, Wisconsin on April 12th at The After Dark.
Chicago goregrinders NECROPSY, Green Bay's sick and brutal HUMAN CRUELTY and Wisconsin Rapids' UNPROTECTED SEX join forces for this show, which kicks off at 8 PM.
Tickets are $5. at the door.
Swedish black/death metallers THE LEGION, who feature in their ranks former MARDUK drummer Emil Dragutinovic, have issued the following update:
"As you might know, we've had our share of difficulties managing the vocal position. And once again we're without a permanent singer. A while ago we and Kjetil [Hektoen] decided to go separate ways. He's been busy with his other bands/projects and simply didn't find the time and devotion required to rehearse with us as much as we wanted. We think it's really sad since we like him both as a person, as well as for his amazing skills vocally. We really wish him all the best for the future and thank him for his time with us and his support in our live performances." More...
THIS ENDING, the Stockholm, Sweden-based band formerly known as THE PLAGUE (before they were forced to change their name for legal reasons), has issued the following update:
"We are proud to announce the title of the second THIS ENDING album: 'Dead Harvest'. We have returned once again to Offbeat Studio with our very own Linus Nirbrant at the controls. The drums have been recorded and we'll be showing you some footage of Fredrik hammering away soon, as well as the other parts of recording later.
"The album will contain ten tracks and is slated for release in late 2008. Some songtitles that will appear on the album are: 'Dead Harvest', 'Parasites', 'Tools Of Demise' and 'Deathtrade'.
"In other news THIS ENDING also did its live show premier Friday March 14 in Stockholm, Sweden. A very successful gig where two new songs, 'Parasites' and 'Deathtrade', were tried out live. Both old and new songs were very well recieved by the crowd."
Dutch "atmospheric doomsters" OFFICIUM TRISTE have issued the following update:
"Once again we can inform you about a change within OFFICIUM TRISTE's lineup.
"After much thought, Martin [Kwakernaak] has decided to quit drumming and start focusing on the synth-parts. As one of the main composers he has always had a big influence on the music and especially the synths. So, from now on he'll be doing the synths and he keeps on writing music. His decision has a lot to do with the fact he's living in Germany and he feels he cannot deliver what is needed for the band when talking about rehearsing and doing live gigs. Therefore, Martin has decided to switch to synths exclusively. This will give the band much more opportunities and we're happy to see Martin in this setting. We are also very happy to announce that all drum duties will be taken over by Ronald Lagerwaard (ex-IMBOLC, ABSENT MIND, PERPETUAL MISERY) from now on. He has proven to be a great drummer and is very motivated to be part of the tight rhythm section for OFFICIUM TRISTE."

Candlelight Records reports:
Saturday, April 12th will see a special gig remembering with fondness Paul Raven, bassist from KILLING JOKE, MINISTRY, PRONG, etc., who died in October of last year.
The special line-up features three bands that all have a close association with Paul.
None more so than GUNDOGS who feature Paul’s brother Dan on bass. Dan said of the event “I hope that this show and the love that underpins its spirit, will be loud enough to reach Paul at the right hand of God. He would be proud to see so many of his great friends come together in this way."
Also featuring on the bill are OCTOBER FILE who many will have seen on recent Killing Joke tours and HEADCOUNT who had their 2004 album Die Monkey Die produced by Paul.
Headcount singer Rob Moss said of Paul, “What better way to remember Paul than an evening of floor to floor rock n roll. He’d have been first up there, kicking it up!” Steve Beatty of October File added, "We shall endeavor to honour and salute Paul as best and as fitting as we can. We hope he is attending in spirit."
October File’s new album, Holy Armour From The Jaws Of God, is available now from Candlelight Records.
Swedish melodic death metallers, System Shock, issue the following update on their MySpace page:
"It’s time for us to entering the studio once again... to record our 3rd album. We have a deadline til june!"
"So stay tuned and everything... and also, STAY FUCKING METAL!"
California death metal outfit Brain Drill has broken up (for now) following some obvious dysfunction within the band. The group just released their Metal Blade Records debut last month.
Guitarist Dylan Ruskin explains in a lengthy message:
"Three members of Brain Drill (Steve, Marco, Jeff) have huge weed smoking habits. I do not and couldn't be more against smoking weed. I don't have a problem if you do it but just be smart about it. Before we left for this tour with the Black Dahlia Murder I told them a million times not to bring weed, pipes, etc. with them in the van because we are driving across the country and the last thing we need is to get pulled over and arrested for possession. The laws in CA are nothing compared other states. They don't listen to me and go ahead and bring pipes weed, papers and even brought an ounce of mushrooms. We get pulled over outside of Salt Lake City, UT, right after they had just smoked a blunt. The car smelled like weed. The cop comes up to the window and he says is "I smell pot," so they take us out of the car and they search the van. They tear it apart and even use a dog to sniff out everything. They find the weed, pipes, and mushrooms. I was convinced that we were going to jail but for whatever reason they let us go. After we pulled away I told them "from now on the rule of the band is to not ever bring weed pipes or other drugs into the van and also not to smoke in the van." Jeff's response: "I don't think that's gonna happen, bro." They neglected to listen to me and the next day there were more pipes and accessories in the van. We then get pulled over another 4 times before our first show. Miraculously we didn't get searched again.
"We play the tour and we had an awesome time. Our last show was supposed to be in Buffalo. I had bought a stockpile of firecrackers which are legal in South Carolina so I was not 100% innocent but a lot less [guilty] than them. We start driving and soon we see a sign for Canada, I asked everyone it looks like we are headed for Canada are you guys sure we shouldn't stop and turn around? I even took a wrong turn and as we were looking for the freeway… the sign says ‘Canada straight ahead.’ No one answered me so I continued to drive. Sure enough we get to the Canadian border. They ask us for our passports I said we only have our IDs. We show the guy our IDs he then writes us a ticket and makes us pull over. The guy said ‘since you guys don't have passports we are going to have to search your vehicle.’ They find everybody’s weed. They find Steve's knife and Jeff's knife and my firecrackers. Steve and Jeff start to flip out on the border patrol and start cursing and saying ‘this is bullshit, this is the first and last time I'm ever coming to Canada.’ The cops asked ‘why are you guys making this such a big deal?’ They responded, ‘because this is bullshit.’ The cop said ‘since you think it's bullshit we are now going to give you all full body cavity searches.’ I was the first one to get searched. They stripped me naked had me lift my ballsack up so they could check underneath it, and then had me bend over and spread my asscheeks apart so they could look inside my asshole. After they finished searching all of us we were never going to make it to the Buffalo show. All of this shit could have been prevented if they had just listened to me. Also, they let me keep my firecrackers and told me, ‘The reason we are searching you is because we found weed in Jeff's van.’ They said nothing about the firecrackers. More...

PILEDRIVER guitarist Kinky Pork Cream issues the following studio update:
"March has been a month in which we have been focusing on rehearsing some new songs that will be recorded for the new album. As I mentioned in prior messages..we are three-quarters done...but wanted to record a few more tunes just to make sure that we have the best material possible for the album. So we should be heading back into the studio within three weeks I would guess. Then off to Chicago to mix with Neil Kernon (CANNIBAL CORPSE, QUEENSRŸCHE). CANT WAIT!"
"I'm also pleased to announce a bunch of shows that will be coming up for the band..these are confirmed:"
"Saturday, May 10th - La Source - Coaticook, QC
Saturday, June 14th - Reggie's - Chicago, IL
Saturday, July 19th - Club Saphir - Montreal, QC"

"Rehearsals are beginning to occur on a regular basis, and album #4 is taking shape. Most of the material is written, so we're just fixing some things, and of course adding new stuff."
"I will say this though..."
"Prepare for a heavy album. Take "Tomorrow's in Doubt" and drop an anvil on its fucking head, and you will have the new album." More...
Singer Carlos Zema has left Texas prog metallers OUTWORLD due to "different views concerning the bands music, as well as to pursue other interestes in his career."
Commented Zema: "I really think it's time to explain the reasons why I decided to not be a part of OUTWORLD any longer. I had to leave my entire personal life, business, properties, and students behind in Brazil when I recieved the invitation to be a part of this awesome project. Because of that, I decided to move to the USA and start a new life from zero. My personal family issues contributed, but in reality were not the main reason I decided to leave the band.
"First of all, let me say that there were excellent musicians in this last lineup: Rusty Cooley, Matt Smith, Shawn Kascak and Bobby Williamson! It was definitely a great honor for me to play with these guys!
"Now, for the reasons why I left… First: During this period of time together, the band was starting to head in two different stylistic directions, dividing us: Rusty, Shawn and Matt started wanting to write MESHUGGAH-sounding type of mterial. They wanted a second guitarist, different type of vocals, etc. Bobby and I started having a hard time fitting in vocal melodies and keyboard arrangements. So when Bobby left the band, I decided that my efforts and vocals would be worth more elsewhere." More...
RONNIE JAMES DIO has issued the following announcement:
"Please be aware that the DIO band is not playing any North American dates this year, and that there is a person going around booking fictitious dates with unsuspecting promoters.
The only dates this year that are legitimate are the UK/Scandinavian dates as listed on the tour section."
It was reported yesterday that Dio would headline the 4th annual Ride For Dime charity concert on August 16th - apparantly this is false information. Rob Eichelberger, Vice President of Ride For Dime, Inc has issued the following statement:
"As you are probably aware this comes as devastating news to Ride For Dime. We put our faith in a person that represented himself as Doug Goldstein, management for RJD. I actually paid a deposit to the gentleman to secure the date and he went so far as to give me his federal tax ID and have a signed contract from him. Again we are very sorry to have mislead anyone, it was not done intentionally. I hope the RJD Management will forgive any embarrassment our site may have caused them. We will pursue this matter."
Dio is currently working on a new Heaven and Hell album with the Heaven and Hell era Black Sabbath lineup.
