ContactMusic.com reports that System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has been getting his marijuana by prescription after telling his physician he experiences pains in his leg. "I get it prescribed. I told my doctor that I get a little tendonitis in my leg," Shavo explained. "So he writes me a prescription for marijuana and they hand it over. It's fu**ing great!"
IRON MAIDEN's "Eddie Rips Up… Europe/North America - Summer 2005 Tour" has already had tremendous on-sale reactions in Europe, with tickets for their massive show in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadim on July 9 recently selling out all 53,500 in just 2½ hours — the second fastest sell-out ever in Sweden’s biggest venue after BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN! Tickets for their show at Helsinki's Hartwell Arena on July 6 and 7 went the same way with 22,000 tickets selling out in a day.
Comments singer Bruce Dickinson, "We've always had great support there before but this is stepping up another level entirely. This whole tour will be one of the biggest we have ever done in terms in the number of fans we are playing to and if the reaction continues like this, every show will be a truly momentous occasion.
"Following the great reception received by our DVD 'The Early Days', which chronicled the MAIDEN story over the first four albums, we decided to give the fans a special treat on this tour by playing materiel almost exclusively from these albums, including a lot of songs that fans have been asking us to play for years along with fan favourites like 'Number of the Beast', 'Run to the Hills', 'Hallowed be thy Name', 'Wrathchild' and 'The Trooper'. And it will be a lot of fun for us playing stuff we haven't played for years!!
"In keeping with this, we will be bringing over for Ozzfest the full European show, naturally including as special guest Eddie in various appropriate guises!! The stage sets, production and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows on the tours around those albums — 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind'. Only bigger, much bigger!!! We don't know if anyone has done anything like this before but we think it's something the fans will really appreciate both in the choice of songs and in the production values.
"Unfortunately, we are unable to complete the full Ozzfest schedule as we were already confirmed to headline some major British festivals in that period, so apologies to fans in Texas and the Southeast. Having said that we are very much looking forward to the dates we are doing, especially with such a great bill. We're sure it will be a fantastic day out for the fans."
GOTTHARD have been added to the Bloodstock Open Air lineup. This will be the million selling Swiss Classic Rock acts first appearance in the UK since their debut tour with Magnum in the early 1990's and is sure to please their many UK fans. They will be promoting their latest release 'Lipservice' due out on June 6th on Nuclear Blast. This will be preceded by a single in April, details of which are at gotthard.com. More...
Original JUDAS PRIEST singer Al Atkins has completed work on his fifth solo album, entitled "Demon Deceiver".
The CD, which features artwork by MAGNUM bassist Al Barrow (who also runs Generic Designs), was pieced together over the last ten months with the help of South African guitarist Mike de Jager, Simon Lees (BUDGIE; once voted guitarist of the year by Guitar magazine), Brian Tatler (DIAMOND HEAD), bassist Pete Emms (THE VASELINE RATS), and drummers Adrian Badland and Mick Hales. Among the songs scheduled to appear on the album is "Drown", which is said to be a duet between Al and the Kansas-based vocalist/guitarist Johnny Lokke.
Atkins' band THE DENIAL, also featuring ex-IRON MAIDEN/PRAYING MANTIS guitarist Dennis Stratton, is currently on a break while the members pursue other projects. Al is also said to be finishing off his book he is writing about the early years of JUDAS PRIEST, entitled "Dawn of the Metal Gods".
The long running Chalmette, Louisiana band TUNGSTEN have set "If Death Doesn't Change You…Nothing Will" as the title of their 5th album. The band anticipates a mid May of 2005 release through their own label, Tungsten Music Records. The album will include 12 songs from the Chalmette trio. Here is the track listing:
"Leave The Dust Behind"
"It Was The Day She Died"
"I'm Gonna Show You"
"Got To Get Through This"
"What These Eyes Have Seen"
"See Me Through"
"It Was The Day He Died"
"Can't Turn Back Anymore"
"One Last Sunset With You"
The album features the classic line-up of Mark Talamo (drums), Steve Talamo (Bass/Lead Guitar) and Al Hodge (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar). The album was recorded at H/T studios in Chalmette, Louisiana just outside of New Orleans and was produced and engineered by Mark Talamo, who has engineered all of the previous TUNGSTEN albums as well as the second CROWBAR self titled record in 1993, and the very first DOWN demo in 1992, along with a handful of other New Orleans heavy hitters. Founding members Rex Carroll and Scott Wenzel of the three-time Dove Award-winning Christian metal band WHITECROSS met on January 15, 2005 to begin discussing a new WHITECROSS album as well as a possible re-recording of their 1987 debut self-titled LP. The re-recorded CD, due out early summer, will contain re-recorded versions of all the songs featured on the original CD, as well as special bonus tracks, including, but not limited to, "Love on the Line" from the "Love on the Line $6.98 EP". New artwork, photos, liner notes and other enhanced features will accompany the re-recorded self-titled CD.
WHITECROSS will perform a few selected live dates in 2005 as well as begin working on a new full-length album, featuring both Carroll and Wenzel. To celebrate this important event, WHITECROSS are selling a limited number of their original self-titled CDs, autographed by Scott and Rex. Rex will also be auctioning off his Peavey Vandenberg guitar during the month of March. This guitar was the primary guitar used in the making of "In the Kingdom" and "High Gear" as well as was Rex's primary guitar used while on tour.

DIET OF WORMS, the Florida-based band featuring SAVATAGE singer Damond Jiniya and MORBID ANGEL producer Juan "Punchy" Gonzalez, have officially split up. "Some of us gave it a good fight. But, due to the changing tides and influences of others, DIET OF WORMS has ceased to be," Gonzalez writes in an online posting. "The [DIET OF WORMS] web site still functions and it will still possible to obtain DIET OF WORMS merchandise.
"Thanks to all whom have supported this music and thanks to all who will continue to enjoy it.
"On a personal note, I am saddened by this turn of events. Saddened like you would be if a friend or relative had passed away. It is hard to look at the end of something without thinking of the future and what it holds. The future is what you make of it.
"I, Punchy, am and always will be the custodian of DIET OF WORMS, its music, and its philosophy. I still operate D.O.W. Studios. Currently I am working with various artists both as a performer and as a producer. Details to follow..."

European festival: More...
Portugal's Moonspell have posted the following message on their official web site:
First off, we are cancelling our headliner show at Salon de Provence on the 23th of March due to low presale. We can not compromise the rest of the tour on the account of this and also it could come as a financial disaster to the promoter. So in hope we ever get there we might need a stronger fan basis in this location in France. The good news are that we are playing both dates in Paris at the end of this tour and also that we are confirming our presence in Rotonde Festival, Hirson, on the 21st of May. Also Moonspell will be playing on Nummmirock, Finland, on the 25 of June.
We will announce soon other further dates in Portugal and still under negotiation are other appeareances on festivals.
About the quite polemic who's playing first or last in Portugal and after many other comments in our forum, Moonspell would like to set the record straight. In all Europe, we were invited by Cradle of Filth to support them and that is what we are doing to the best of our conditions and regardless of those we are putting all our heart on the stage show and the reactions have proved fair so far.
In Portugal, Cradle of Filth will close the show by mutual agreement between bands and promoters. Goes without saying that our status in Portugal is different than in the rest of Europe but besides this status talk what it matters is that there are two bands which have proven themselves on the scene through the originality and quality of their music and that the Portuguese fans will even welcome a different show where Moonspell and Cradle of Filth will have equal conditions, equal stage times and equal full production on stage. That was the way found for both Cradle of Filth and Moonspell fans to enjoy this tour and both bands' show at their fullest. Not to mention equal willingness to bring a true experience to the Portuguese crowds as this country cherish so much both bands since we first played together in Lisbon, year 1994 (!) also the great the Haunted will share the stage with us, a concert not to be missed so show up in time will you!
Bizzy Bone, legendary hip-hop star, has revealed that he will be releasing a cover of the Guns N' Roses classic "Welcome To The Jungle". He said: "I will have a rock and roll album out this summer, doing a remake of 'Welcome To The Jungle' with Guns N' Roses." G'N'R will join a list of famous rock acts, including Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne, being remixed by rappers.
LIFE OF AGONY's new album, "Broken Valley" (view cover here), has had its release date pushed back to June 14 from the previously announced May 31. The delay is being attributed to "production issues," according to the group's management.
As previously reported, LIFE OF AGONY's new single, "Love to Let You Down", has been posted at the group's official web site. You can check it out at this location. The single is scheduled to go for radio adds around March 21.
LIFE OF AGONY have been recording tracks for the new CD since October in two studios in Hollywood, CA, with producer Greg Fidelman (SLIPKNOT, JET, AUDIOSLAVE). Drums were tracked at the legendary Sunset Sound recording studio (home to where several DOORS albums were made), while bass, guitars, vocals and other overdubs were recorded at Westlake Studios (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS).
LIFE OF AGONY's upcoming album will be their first collection of new material since "Soul Searching Sun", which was released in 1997. The group's last release was a live album and DVD, entitled "River Runs Again: Live 2003". The two-disc set was recorded during the group's sold-out reunion shows at Irving Plaza in New York City on January 3-4, 2003 and was issued through SPV Records worldwide.
MONSTER MAGNET mainman Dave Wyndorf has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"I'm announcing with deep regret that Phil Caivano, guitarist, singer and my longtime friend, has decided to 'move on' from MONSTER MAGNET.
"Phil joined the band in 1998 and has been a solid contributor since day one. No one I know has ever been more dedicated to his craft. He is a unique and talented individual who excels at everything he does and I wish him all the best.
"Phil himself will let you know what he's doing in his own good time, but for the record, this is an amicable split.
"Needless to say, there is only one Phil Caivano so replacing him is impossible. However, MAGNET is auditioning guitarists to fill the rhythm slot and I'll let you all know what's up. In the meantime, I'll be playing guitar. This change in line up will in no way effect the output of MONSTER MAGNET, as I am writing the new album now and things are on schedule.
"Phil is and will always be welcome as a member of the MONSTER MAGNET family.
"Rock is alive! Love, Dave."
