Winterfylleth Reveals New Album Details

Two years after their critically acclaimed acoustic/folk album, "The Hallowing of Heirdom," British Black Metal pioneers Winterfylleth are poised to return on May 8th 2020 with the release of their visceral new album, "The Reckoning Dawn" via Candlelight Records/Spinefarm Records. Ahead of the release the band have released title single "The Reckoning Dawn" which can be heard below.

The first full length metal album since 2014’s "The Divination of Antiquity," The Reckoning Dawn finds the band returning at the absolute top of their game, across an expansive journey of an album. Eight brand new songs of blistering, atmospheric and emotive black metal adorn the records near 60 minute running length and serves to highlight the strength and depth of material in the Winterfylleth canon, resulting in one of the darkest and most powerful records of 2020.

Guitarist/vocalist Chris Naughton commented: "Having spent the last 2 years in a very different creative space, touring our acoustic album, and bringing those shows to evocative, atmospheric and unique venues all over the UK and Europe, we are now pleased to announce our return to the realms of Black Metal with our new album, The Reckoning Dawn. The culmination of almost two years of writing and collective hard work, what we are presenting here is a visceral & emotive new Winterfylleth album that we are all truly proud to put forth into the world.

"We've taken the time over the last few years to craft and grow our sound into different musical areas, really wanting to contrast that on this album; taking what we had learned from those other experiences and distilling that into what we have created here. To me it feels like a mighty, passionate and essential album of songs that push the boundaries of what a Winterfylleth metal album can be, but that also harkens back to our more traditional Black Metal sound in a more immediate way. Today we share the title track with you, but in the coming weeks and months look forward to sharing more with you, on record and on tour with our friends in Mork. We hope to see you on the road." Carcass Reveals New Album Title

In a recent interview with Australia's Heavy magazine, Carcass guitarist Bill Steer revealed that the name of the band's forthcoming seventh album will be "Torn Arteries," with the title being inspired by a demo recorded by original drummer Ken Owen. In addition to this, he also confirmed the previously reported release date of August 7th through Nuclear Blast Records. An excerpt from the chat reads as follows:

Steer: "He had a fictitious band called Torn Arteries and he recorded everything himself in his bedroom; guitar, and he'd actually bang on boxes and kind of scream into the mic. And the whole thing was so distorted, it kind of sounded super heavy, even though essentially you were listening to a guy with a Spanish guitar and a couple of boxes. I think Jeff (Walker / frontman) appreciates the connection to the past and the fact that it was another Ken Owen classic. So that was his choice, really, and it stuck."

Owen suffered a brain hemorrhage in 1999 and has not performed with the band in over 20 years, but according to Steer is still part of the band.

Steer: "Even though Ken isn't playing in the band as such right now, he's kind of involved in everything we do, stylistically, because when he was so unique. When he was playing drums, his approach was just totally different. Also, the riffs he came up with, they were just really far out there. They were loads of fun to learn. I still think, as a guitar player, some of the stuff was very unorthodox and it was quite a challenge. That kind of influence still runs through what we do today."

Konvent Discusses "Puritan Masochism" And Equality

It's an exciting time to be a metal fan. All over the world, we're seeing bands emerge and performing excellent old school metal from various sub genres. One country in particular that seems to have a thriving scene right now is Denmark, perhaps previously best known for producing Mercyful Fate and Lars Ulrich. While some young Danish artists are a few albums deep into their catalogue now, one who has just come on to the global scene with their full length debut, "Puritan Masochism" in Konvent. I recently had the opportunity to put a few questions to the band, who had some very interesting insight into the album, their history, equality and much more.

Diamond Oz: Congratulations on the release of "Puritan Masochism." I must say that I'm loving the record. It was the first I've pre-ordered in nearly ten years! So far, how has the response been?

Julie Simonsen: The response has been overwhelming. We didn’t expect it to go so great and that so many people would actually buy our music that we’ve worked so hard on. We are beyond happy!

Oz: I'm interested to know, where did the title of the album come from?

Julie: The title ‘Puritan Masochism’ (which is also the title the first single) is about how everyone has a tendency to do things, or thinking things that actually hurt us, but we keep thinking/doing those things because we feel like we have to – in order to fit into something or to live up to some imagined expectations. And sometimes we keep doing these things without even realizing it because you just go on autopilot. It’s sort of our way to say that we don’t have to live like that.
