Metal News for March 19, 2010
Last updated on January 27, 2015 at 6:36 PM ET
We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
39 news articles posted on this day.
Superfly and A.C. Entertainment recently announced that the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has added several artists to the 2010 event, but I thought I'd highlight the few heavier bands on the line-up:
You really have to be a general music fan to appreciate a festival like Bonnaroo, so diehard metalheads need not bother. The full Bonnaroo 2010 lineup can be found here. The music festival takes place on Thursday, June 10 through June 13.
Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Jack Johnson and other top artists are donating their music to encourage Americans to speak out on climate change. Organized by the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, HeadCount and the NRDC Action Fund, this collaboration marks the first time free music has been used to prompt Americans to contact their elected officials.
Best of Bonnaroo, a compilation of 17 different live performances from the festival (unfortunately none of the heavier ones), is available for free at www.Musicforaction.org.

Even as they move to annihilate the city of Austin at this years SXSW music festival, Antarctic beast-lords Gwar are setting their sights on an event that is destined to go down as one of the most insane experiences in their long and obtuse career: The Crack-a-thon is on!
Gwar is staging the first Crack-a-thon April 16th and 17th at the MF Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Starting at 7:00 pm on April 16th, Oderus, joined by his co-host and band mate, Balsac the Jaws of Death, will star in Gwar's very own variety show which will be broadcast free of charge to anybody with an internet connection. In the tradition of "The Carol Burnett Show" or the Jerry Lewis MS telethon, Oderus will attempt to entertain and milk the viewing audience for every penny they have while presenting an assortment of guests that glitteringly represent the sub-middle-upper-lower strata of entertainments elite.
Today Gwar announced the first confirmed guest on the program, Oderus' Red Eye buddy and confirmed nose-bleeder, Andrew W.K. who will be performing live. Andrew W.K. commented about the appearance: “I am very excited to have an intimate experience with Oderus. I've admired his physique for so long, and now I finally get to see it up close... very up close.” Lead singer of Gwar and Crack-a-thone host Oderus Urungus is known for sharing his crack. More...

U.S. black metal act Twilight, which then consisted of members of Nachtmystium, Leviathan, Kreig, Xasthur and Drautran, released its self-titled debut album in 2005. Imperial (Kreig), - and new recruits Stavros Giannopolous (The Atlas Moth), Sanford Parker (Minsk, Buried At Sea) and Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom), as well as vocal contributions by Robert Lowe (Lichens, OM) on three tracks. Canadian thrash metal pioneers Annihilator have revealed the artwork for their upcoming new self-titled album. The album is set to be released in Europe via Earache Record on May 17th. Annihilator guitarist and main man Jeff Waters discusses the artwork:
"The new Annihilator CD cover art was, again, done by the great Gyula Havancsák. He has done the art for the last 4 Annihilator studio releases, as well as the 'Ten Years in Hell' DVD. The concept was mine and came to me in a dream (more like a nightmare) and seems to be 'Alice' (Alison Hell), returned from the grave! Musically, the new CD ended up being far more aggressive than expected; thus, the new CD cover seems to compliment the songs perfectly."

1. The Trend
5. 25 Seconds
6. Nowhere To Go
7. The Other Side
8. Death In Your Eyes
10. Romeo Delight

Fantasy metallers Kivimetsan Druidi recently finished recording their new album “Betrayal, Justice, Revenge," which will be released via Century Media Records. The band has now posted the following track-by-track break down of the album:
"Aesis Lilim: Lilim are a people of female warriors living secluded in their stone castle. They do travel out and act as mercenaries, following their Code as well as their personal conscience. This song was actually made with lyrics somewhat ready before Antti and Joni started with the composition. ‘Big and movie-like’ was the idea, and that is what we got.
"Lament for the Fallen is the intro of Aesis Lilim. We came to the conclusion that it would be separated as an individual track, which meant that it needed a name of its own. ‘We’ in a broad sense: I found out about the separation when manager called me and said we need a name now. :-D
"Seawitch and the Sorcerer: Seawitch as a composition existed entirely before the lyrics were integrated. The story, though, existed too: it just hadn't been made into lyrics and chosen music to go with. So it was a shotgun marriage: these lyrics, this song, make them go together. More...
Leave's Eyes vocalist Liv Kristine has issued the following update about releasing a new solo album:
"Dear Fans & Friends, my up-coming album 'Skintight' is on its way to you! In January, the production at Mastersound Studio was completed and the artwork finished by Stefan Heilemann. It has been a fantastic experience to evolve during the recording process. Tori Amos gave me a lot of inspiration in the way she records her songs. My main aim is to release an album which goes directly under your skin, and into your hearts. Being authentic, but perhaps not flawless, is the philosophy I follow artistically. It is not necessary to tune and shape a singing voice when it comes from the heart, from deep within. This is why I chose the title 'Skintight.'
"Most recordings were done 'in one go,' i.e. record a complete song without breaks. Moreover, we've kept and paid attention to the natural processes which take place during singing, like breathing, movements of the lips, emotional expression and strength etc. All this makes the album authentic, real, and direct. The music is played with only a few, however, original instruments. A very down to earth album, and absolutely 'real,' like as if you were sitting next to me and I would sing a song to you. All songs have been written by Torsten Bauer, and myself. Alexander Krull produced the album. My lyrics tell about my childhood ('One of Them,' 'Wonders'), and my observations of the fast, cold, superficial and grey society of the masses ('The Rarest Flower', 'Boy at the Window'). 'Skintight' is dedicated to the children of this world - our future. Children embodies real, true and endless love; love towards nature, and love between human beings. This is an album which will open your hearts."

Los Angeles retro thrash metal band WARBRINGER just completed a massive European tour and has now set their sights back on North America as they prepare to embark on a cross-country tour with Overkill alongside Vader, God Dethroned, Evile and Woe of Tyrants.
John Laux (guitars) further states: "Just finishing up our latest European tour, which was definitely a 'whirlwind'. We've spent the past two months all over Europe, doing five weeks of shows with Evile and then three weeks of headlining dates, mainly focusing on Eastern Europe. The conditions were rough as we did our own dates crammed into a van with seven people and all of our gear. Also, the weather just seemed to get colder and colder. Fortunately no one got too sick and all the fans who came out each night made every gig worthwhile. It was cool to venture into countries like Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary. We were happy to try a lot of the local food, wine and beer. We’ll have a lot of great memories from this run.
"The Overkill tour is going to be a blast. We have already toured with Overkill, Vader and Evile separately before so we're looking forward to touring with old friends, as well as making new ones with the guys in God Dethroned and Woe of Tyrants. This is a totally killer line-up and it will be a great show for the fans.
"We've got a lot on tap for the rest of the year with our first dates in Japan taking place in May, as well as Southeast Asia dates being lined up in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Taiwan. We will have one more tour in the States supporting Pestilence in June and another tour of Europe later this summer. We hope to see you all soon."

Warbeast has posted the first song from their debut album, "Krush The Enemy," on their Myspace page. The song is entitled "We Are The Vultures" and is the last song on their album.
Warbeast comments on the lyrics of the song, "The lyrics are about our fascination of Midieval times and human torture devices. The fact that the human race invented machines to torture and kill other human beings. Then it became a form of entertainment and the crowds flocked like Vultures to watch. We really are the sickest creatures on the planet."
Guitarist Aydan of Italian power metal band Elvenking has issued the following update:

Montreal extreme metal band ION DISSONANCE has recently completed the recording process for their new album, "Cursed," which is set for an early summer release. The offering was tracked at .357 Productions with Ion guitar player, Antoine Lussier (who also produced Emmure's latest) at the production helm.
Kevin (vocals) comments, “We are now completely finished with the tracking process for our new album, Cursed. We only have a few more days of mixing left and we will be hitting up Wild Studios in the coming weeks to master our efforts and finally put an end to this horribly long and arduous recording process. We have been hacking away at this thing for the past three months and are down to our last few days. To see the light at the end of the tunnel and to hear what we have put together is motivating as Hell for us. We all had high hopes for this record and feel that we have undoubtedly delivered the goods.”
