Finnish heavy metal superstars Children of Bodom have set "Halo of Blood" as the title of their eighth studio album, set for a June 11th North American release via Nuclear Blast Records.
Today, Children of Bodom unveils the cover art, created by artist Sam Saramäki, known for his work on the classic COB records "Follow the Reaper," "Are You Dead Yet?" and "Hate Crew Deathroll."
Children of Bodom recorded "Halo of Blood" in Finland's Danger Johnny Studios with recording engineer Mikko Karmila, who worked with the band on earlier albums "Hatebreeder," "Follow the Reaper," and "Hate Crew Deathroll" and producer Peter Tägtgren (Marduk, Amon Amarth) who oversaw production of both vocals and keyboards on the record. The album will be mixed at Finnvox Studios.
Frontman Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho comments: "Halo Of Blood is the eighth studio album from Children of Bodom. Musically, we've kept it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB's sound so recognizable. This new album has both the fastest and the slowest songs we've ever made and lyrically, there are themes we've never touched on before. Prepare yourselves for ten tracks of pure Nordic metal!" Parisian blackened sludge/doom horde Eibon has announced the release of a new full-length on 180 gram vinyl and CD. "II" is due out on April 17th via Throatruiner Records and Aesthetic Death, and the following press release was also issued about the album:
"After two splits, one MCD and one full-length, 'II' marks the band's bleakest and most ambitious material to date. Recorded in a live setting by Sylvain Biguet (Comity, Revok, As We Draw…) then mixed and mastered by Francis Caste (Arkhon Infaustus, Kickback, Cowards…), 'The Void Settlers' and 'Elements Of Doom' are two massive twenty-minutes tracks where Eibon refine their very own vision of slow and painful music, infusing their raw sludge/doom with black metal and more atmospheric parts."

Dead By April has posted the following message online about parting ways with vocalist Jimmie Strimell:
"First of all excuse us for taking time to declare the rumors that has flourished the internet the past days. We’re deeply sorry to inform you that Jimmie Strimell no longer will be a part of Dead By April.
"The reason we had to make this decision is because of Jimmie’s personal problems. His problems has affected the band for many years and we have basically tried everything we could to make this work. We have even gone through group therapy lately to get honesty and sincerity into the group. As nothing changed we had to realize that if we want to move forward with this band there’s unfortunately no other way but to continue without Jimmie. We’re sick of not knowing whether he’ll turn up for shows, recordings and sick of having such bad environment within the band – at all time. It came to a point where we could not be in the same vehicle. More...

Swedish doom metal act Memory Garden has launched the second single and title track taken off upcoming album, "Doomain," via the website of Metal Hammer Germany. Head to this location and stream "Doomain" now.
"Doomain" was recorded at Annoying Sound Factory and SolnaSound Recording by the band with a little assistance engineering from Mike Wead during the lead guitar sessions. The mix was done by Dan Swano at Unisound.
The band elaborates: "The recording of Doomain must be the most relaxed album session we've ever done. We recorded most of the album ourselves in our own studio and took the time we wanted and needed to get it done. Dan Swano helped us getting the rig together and he provided us with the tools to do it and from there we did it ourselves. The lead guitar sessions were done at SolnaSound Recording by Simon & Mike Wead. When it all was done it was sent to Dan Swano and Unisound for mix and mastering. The final album is amazing and we are so thrilled to get it out to all of you." More...

A new music video is now available for The Rotted's 2013 single "Rotted Fucking Earth." Check out the clip below.
In another move to keep things in the family, the whole thing was self-funded and released on The Rotted's own Anarchogram Industries label, with the video being directed by vocalist Ben McCrow's brother Tom McCrow and the audio being produced by Joe Thompson at Sonic Forge Music in Cardiff (co-owned by long time friend of the band Mic Hourinhan). The Rotted comments:
"The track itself is about throw away culture and the acceleration of just about everything in modern society. We decided that in a world of 8 string guitars, 12 string basses and drumkits from hell 'shredding' in weird scat-jazz time signatures that we wanted a stripped down song with lots of shouting, and where the verse and chorus are the same chords. It's the most knuckle-dragging, drunken-swaggering, punk-rocking song we've ever written." More...
Swedish death metal act Entrails has announced the guest vocalists to be featured on upcoming third album "Raging Death," which is due out May 14th, 2013.
Artists confirmed to appear on "Raging Death" include: Kam Lee (Bone Gnawer, ex-Massacre), Jorgen Sandstrom (The Project Hate MCMXCIX, ex-Grave, ex-Entombed), Rogga Johansson (Paganizer a.o.) and Dan Swano. Fans will hear the guest vocalists on "Death League."
Kam Lee comments: "Entrails is one of the best death metal bands around today hands down - and their track 'Death League' is just pure aggressive cut throat - true death metal in its most rawest and traditional form… the way death metal is meant to be played! When I was asked by the maniacs of Entrails to lend my death growl vomit to the mix I was honored. But the fact that I'm sharing growls alongside other such legendary Swedish death metal vocalist - makes the brutality of the track even more so shredding!! Like a cannibal mutant feeding frenzy of blood soaked gore… this track will make you bleed from the inside out!"
Dan Swano adds: "I love working with Entrails. Their catchy brand of Death Metal is right up my alley. And when I heard that Kam Lee, Jorgen Sandstrom and some other major dudes we're gonna join forces in a track, I happily accepted the invitation without to blink. A kick ass experience indeed! Make sure you hear it!!"
Rogga Johansson also stated: "When asked to do some growling on a track by Entrails all I could think was 'Fuck yes!' I've been a fan of the band for a long, long time, as I had old recordings on a tape I got from a friend. And when I learned that I'd be in such awesome company as the legends guesting, I was even more happy about it! And the song fucken' crushes!" More...

We will be hitting the road with our good friends, As Death Comes Calling, for a 10 day run that will take us through California, Oregon and Washington. For being as visible a band as Deftones have been since 1995, one would think that everybody has had a chance to see them live already. Well-respected and marketed, it's nearly impossible for the average American to be ignorant about the band. Oddly enough, later on in the show, vocalist Chino Moreno called out and asked the crowd "How many of you are at a Deftones show for your first time?" and was surprised by a fairly large show of hands. That being said, the show sold out Marathon Music Works in Nashville, TN on March 15th a couple of weeks early, so it was also a fairly large crowd.
It's my guess that more folks hadn't seen or heard of opening band Periphery at this show, although the band quickly made fans out of them. Assisting on the Koi No Yokan tour had to have been a great step up for Periphery, also bringing out their own fans, which were a welcome juxtaposition to the way-too-serious-about-how-much-they-love-the-Deftones fans. You know the ones -- squinty-eyed, half-baked, but ready to fight at a moment's notice if you're not cool with their how-the-Deftones-saved-my-life story.
Thankfully, all was cool at this show. More...

After the success of “Act I," former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen has renewed her album deal with earMUSIC for a set of new releases spanning over the next few years. The first release will be the yet untitled follow up to the 2010 LP "What Lies Beneath," which is scheduled for release in August/September. The album was mixed by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam/U2) and details about the first single, its music video and extensive worldwide tour will be revealed soon.
Turunen commented on the new release: "It’s going to be a killer, killer…In few days I am going to record the final vocals for the last song on the album. It will be a hard ending for the vocal recordings, since the song has several choirs and even some sort of ethnic touch, so I will have to sweat. Anyway this album production has gone very smoothly forward since all the pieces are together and the team that has been working with me before is still the same. It’s only getting better!"
Although rock will remain Tarja‘s main musical field, she also plans to release productions in a diverse array of musical genres. The upcoming "Beauty and The Beat" tour (side project of Tarja and former Rage drummer Mike Terrana) will be filmed this year, and the success of the album "Harus" will be followed up by the first-ever classical studio album by the Finnish vocalist.
Guitarist and songwriter Luca Sellitto of Italian act Stamina has checked in with the following recording studio update:
"Hi all! We are glad to announce that most of the rhythm guitar parts for the new album have been recorded.
"As previously revealed, the songs I've written for our new album are a bit more aggressive than our previously released stuff. There are a lot of heavy rhythm guitar riffs, so we (the sound engineer and I) tried to achieve the best possible sound for the parts, experimenting a lot with various microphones and amp's settings. I decided to buy a new cabinet, just before starting my recordings : it's a Carvin Legacy with vintage 30s. The amp is my 'old' Masotti X-Modern 100, which I used on our previous albums too.
"I will start recording guitar solos as soon as possible, but I still have to record some rhythm guitar overdubs, a very heavy seven strings guitar riff and some acoustic guitar parts first. In the meanwhile, all the singers who will appear on our album have already start recording their parts.
We will announce their names very soon. Stay tuned!" More...
