Anton of Judgement Day has posted a blog update from yesterday at SXSW:
"Man, I am exhausted. We played for at least 5 hours today and walked around for another 3. It actually was pretty awesome.
"When we first arrived at around 2 pm there were already quite a few festival-goers out. We set up on a street corner in front of the Coyote Ugly bar and started playing. Our new battery-powered amplifier and bucket drum kit make for a pretty sweet guerrilla metal setup: within one minute we were surrounded by a large crowd of green-clothed music fans (it was also St. Patricks day today,) and by the second song there were multiple giant video cameras pointed at us. I have no idea what any of these camera people were filming for but they all seemed to be into it. All the while Brandon (our new drum tech / metal expert) was passing out fliers for our Saturday show, selling cd’s and generally hyping us up to every single person who stopped to listen. The response was great and for the rest of the day people kept coming up to me telling me that they liked it.
"One thing that we found out which was slightly disappointing is that our big Saturday show is kind of far away from the rest of the festival. It turns out that South Congress is not the same as Congress. If you go to 515 Congress, which is right in the middle of the festival, you will be at a bank. That’s not where we are playing. We’re playing at 515 South Congress, which is about a mile away on the other side of the bridge. The place is really cool, but it is definitely a little bit of a hike. There were quite a few people today who were excited to come see the show, so I hope the distance doesn’t deter them. I guess distance is a good reason to do an “official” SXSW show. All of those ones are really easy to walk to. On the plus side, the bridge that you cross to get to our show also happens to be home to over 1.5 million bats and you’ll see them all flying out to hunt as you cross back over to the festival after our set. I have seen it before and it’s quite a site."
I Declare War has officially been signed as the fifth band to Artery Recordings, the new joint venture between The Artery Foundation and Razor & Tie. Founded in 2005, the death metal band is comprised of five guys in their twenties out of Seattle, Washington. On June 1st, their self-produced album "Malevolence" will be released.
While the band can definitely be described as heavy and aggressive, guitarist Evan Hughes states, "We have elements of a lot of different styles but keep things interesting by straying from sticking to a formula and not writing the same song 11 times." When discussing the album, Evan states, "The lyrics are based on a lot of what we think is corrupt in the world today - government, religion, and the self-inflicted downfall of humanity. The title reflects the overall feeling of the lyrics and a basic view of how we see the world today."
During I Declare War's first tour in 2007, the band happened to cross paths with well-known death metal band Whitechapel, and played what Evan calls "one of the worst shows both of us ever played." The unfortunate show turned into a lasting friendship and one of the best things to happen to the band. When Alex Wade from Whitechapel was approached by Artery in regards to possible bands to sign, he suggested I Declare War, and so the relationship began. Artery and I Declare War are equally excited to begin working together. Evan says, "Being recognized by everyone at Artery is an honor and we're really happy to have found a home with them. It's been a long road to get to this point, but it really feels like our hard work is paying off."
Artery Recordings is the label home to The Artery Foundation and is an imprint of independent label Razor & Tie, whose first two releases are from Chelsea Grin and Bury Tomorrow.

Sons of Fenris has issued the following statement about the band's upcoming full-length album:
"The first and future Sons of Fenris record, that will emerge from the realms of Heldrasil, is entitled 'Þurh Mihstoz af Khalijaewhaz' This upcoming dark audio relic will contain 9 musical rituals like 'The Opening of the Void' (lyrics written by Orm of the Dark Germanic Fundamentalist bands named Wod, Ormgård and Myling), 'Þurisawulfaz bloðisojanan' or 'Wahram eþ Muþspellaugaz.'
"As you noticed, some parts of the lyrics will be written in Protogermanic. The use of the primordial Germanic language for invoking our primordial gigantic lords is something important and in deep connection with the ancestral blood that is flowing in us. To use it is a more powerful curse for accelerating the spiral of destruction and for swallowing the cosmic realms into the ultimate raging storm - Wurdigudon - Ragnarök. Nothing can stop Their holy wrath. See the foundation of our multiverse trembling and drying out. The return of Gennjaûram - Abgrundjasaiþagiwo - Ginnungagap is near!"

Swedish modern metallers Soilwork will embark on a North American headlining tour this summer with Bay Area thrash legends Death Angel. Joining them will be Quebec’s tech-death masters Augury, Roadrunner Records recording artists Mutiny Within, and pirate themed thrashers Swashbuckle.
Soilwork vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid commented: "We are stoked to tour with the most vicious thrashers from the west, famous for their gin drinking and intense live shows. Death Angel is a classic band that we've wanted to tour with for a long time. A perfect fit for the bill and surely an awesome touring companion. The summer of mosh is upon us. Don't miss out!"
Death Angel frontman Mark Osegueda added: “I can't begin to tell you how excited we are about the upcoming tour! I first heard Soilwork on a Nuclear Blast promo compilation and they stood out from the first listen. The riffs, the drumming, and Bjorn's vocal attack! Then we were fortunate enough to play with them at With Full Force Festival a few years back and they killed it live! As fate would have it, I was asked to participate in a Nuclear Blast 20 Year Anniversary compilation album called Out of the Dark, which Peter Wichers wrote the music for. I wrote the lyrics and melody for a song on that compilation called ‘My Name is Fate’! Peter actually was also the producer, so I was fortunate enough to get to work with him in the studio! What a brilliant guy and and a great musician and now that he is back in the fold Soilwork is back on top of their game. I think the musical styles and live performances of both bands will make every show on this tour a show not to be missed by any true fan of HEAVY music! So don't just hear about the aftermath, experience it for yourself!”
Augury lead singer/guitar player Patrick Loisel: “We are very proud to be part of such a great tour with Soilwork, perform alongside legends such as Death Angel (a band whom I covered in my old bands), and join our brothers in Swashbuckle again. It's quite a thrill!”
Soilwork and Death Angel have now added a special event VIP ticket for a pre-show meet-and-greet to take place one hour before doors. Each night, fans will get to meet and greet Soilwork and Death Angel for a special event that is being offered. Fans will also receive a customized poster to get signed by both bands. These special VIP tickets are on sale now at EnterTheVault.com.

Karma to Burn has issued the following statement about an upcoming U.S. tour:
"Over protests from Christian Right leaders, who oppose their music for containing magic (and, by extension, Satanic religious beliefs), Karma To Burn are pleased to announce US tour dates in support of their forthcoming new album, 'Appalachian Incantation', set for North American release on May 11th. 'Appalachian Incantation' will be Karma To Burn's first studio album in eight years and the legendary stoner rockers' first album for Napalm Records, following the recent release of their 'Live 2009 - Reunion Tour' DVD.
"We have hopes that the allure of bright lights and the promise of instant wealth will have Karma To Burn shows filled to the rafters with youngsters clamoring for instruction in summoning and conjuring, willing their bodies and souls to Lucifer in unholy blood covenants, or at least watching more softcore pornography on cable... Joining us onstage will be the unassuming wizards of Year Long Disaster and Satan himself, who will appear as a beast with seven heads and ten horns."

Opeth front man Mikael Akerfeldt has issued the following statement regarding the band's recent song for the "God of War 3" soundtrack and the sound of Opeth's upcoming album:
"Lady Gaga called me up! That was a lie....sorry, that's like fucking SPAM! Quite interesting to see how diverse the reactions have been to our last song, ‘The throat of Winter’ that we recorded to be included on a disc coming with the ‘God of War 3’ game. Everything from ‘loving it’ to ‘hating it’ to juvenile ‘meh’ comments.
"I’m happy we’ve caused some reactions at least, rather raise a taste-agenda than a shrug.
It’s quite clear to me that some have yet to understand what this band is about. Some say the song doesn’t ‘fit’ the game, as if we’d ever, in our career, been interested in fitting in. Sorry! I was asked to write an Opeth song, and that’s what I did. Couldn’t care less if we fit in or not.
"At this point I’m complete and utterly bored with new streamlined music. Bored to tears by conventional metal arrangements. I think the future album will be more or less devoid of any fluid writing. It will be all over the place I guess, because that’s what I and ultimately Opeth as a band find interesting these days. I want it to be fucked up! I’ve written a 10 minute + piece so far and it’s miserable sounding (in a good way, for me at least) and quite disturbing. Don’t know whether it will make the final cut, but it’s certainly set the tone for what type of music I want to write right now. I can’t foresee what you as ‘fans’ will think of anything we put out anymore. I stopped wondering after ‘Damnation’ got hate-bombed, so we’ll just have to wait and see I guess. More...
Drummer Hannes Grossmann of Germany's Obscura has checked in with a new road report via Sick Drummer. An excerpt from the report follows:
"March 8th - Portland/OR, Hawthorne Theater: I've been to Portland before, but I didn't notice how much of a hippie town it is. At least the part of the city called Hawthorne is. The good thing about hippie towns is that they care a lot about healthy food and good coffee. I'm not sure if walkin' barefootin' allday is really healthy, but maybe if you eat all that veggie crap every day, it doesn't matter anymore...
"Well, nice theater we were playing in. The audience was really enthusiastic and finally I got the chance to catch Augury. Even though they lost their rhythm section right before the tour started, they sound tight. Tommy really can play the drums. We were all very tired because we had an overnight drive from San Francisco, so we packed our stuff as soon as the concert was over and drove to the closest Motel 6.
"March 9th - Seattle/WA, El Corazon: El corazon...that must be Spanish for THE BUTTHOLE. The most rotten stage we played on this tour so far, two of my tom mics didn't just fell off, they literally fell apart in its single pieces. Steffen got hit by his microphone stand in the mouth because the audience went totally crazy. At least one really cool thing about that venue, as long as you don't have to sing. No seriously, the audience was great and I really would love to play in Seattle again. Maybe in another club. More...
Louisiana's Suicide War, who recently announced the addition of Goatwhore's Ben Falgoust for vocal duties, has now issued the following update about recruiting Kirk Windstein:
"Yes!! It is true.... Kirk will be doing vocal duties along side Ben in Suicide War. He will also be filling the bass duties, if and when Suicide War plans to do some shows. I know some people are expecting his signature Crowbar style vocals, but he has approached this project from a completely different angle. We are so pleased, and thankful to have Kirk involved with this project. We hope all the fans appreciate what we are trying to accomplish with this beast, and we promise you all wont be let down! Thanks and spread the word!"
Sample Suicide War tracks can also be heard via the band's MySpace page.

P.S. the first week has been great so far, thanks to all you guys and the amazing support bands for making this such a killer tour!"

Tampa, Florida based death metallers Morbid Angel have issued the following update about their drummer undergoing back surgery:
"World Management and Morbid Angel would like to let the fans know that rumors about Pedro Sandoval's back surgery are in fact true. Pete has suffered for a long time with a deteriorating disc problem. He was in daily pain and needed to have this done. He has recently been treated by a Laser Back Surgery specialist in Tampa Florida. He is currently in rehabilitation and doing well. Pete is part of our family and the band¹s History and we all wish him well and a full recovery. Unfortunately this type of injury, subsequent surgery and rehab cannot be rushed and it will take ample time for him to hopefully be back behind his drums again and out on tour with Morbid Angel.
"The band is moving forward on their next recording with Tim Yeung. Currently the guys are in rehearsals in Tampa putting their finishing touches on the songs for the New album, which is slated for later this year with subsequent touring world wide."

Keyboardist Stathis Kassios of Greek metal act Nightfall has issued the following update about the recording of the band's new album:
"The timing felt right to end my long lasting relationship with previous sequencers and move on with confidence (thanks also goes to Chris ‘Rektor’ Ntaskas) to Digidesign’s Pro Tools and lay down the keyboards for Astron Black album. The first steps before jumping to the high speed Pro Tools train and its innovative built - in top - notch plug ins, were a bit uncertain as the use of my previous synth sounds of Novation KS - Rack did not quite satisfy the panorama of Efthimis goal for this album and a short period of intense discussions and almost Tyrannical guidance followed, which finally turned out highly creative
"The existential question always haunts keyboard players playing Metal music ‘How do I fit here?’ started troubling my mind, demanding for immediate planning; having a ‘strategy’ as a recording artist is like investing with the least risk taken and expecting the best result. So did I. In respect to the work done by previous keyboard players of the band and to the demands of Nightfall’s diverse and unique music, I had to spend time, a hell of a time actually, and artsy nights listening to the pre - produced guitar tracks recorded by Evan, while trying to figure out the best approach that would carefully follow there after as regard to the use of the sounds and orchestration throughout this prominent album. Sarkom has issued the following tour report:
"After 10 days and 10 gigs we returned to Norway pretty exhausted... A big hail goes out to both Shining and Svarttjern for a great tour, as well as all the maniacs who came to see us! All shows went great, but the gig in Berlin came out as the best this time, as it was packed to the edge with crazy Germans!"
"Hope to see some of you at the Inferno gig in a couple of weeks! It's been over a year since we last played in Norway, so we really think it will be worth to come and see!"

Italian Horror Metal band CADAVERIA have entered the studio to begin recording their new album.
Cadaveria comments, "We finally completed the composition of eleven brand new songs and we officially entered the recording studio last week. We will care about the entire production as usual, so it would take a while... by the way drums are already done and Frank Booth and new entry Dick Laurent are already at work on the guitars."
"It's always hard to speak about your own creations, but I have been working on vocals fine-tuning for last two weeks and I have the feeling these new tracks are dramatically heavy, obscure and insane. I'm looking forward to carrying this new album out but me and Killer Bob are quite busy with DyNAbyte new release too. On the other hand me and the other guys from CADAVERIA will not quit the studios till we are completely satisfied of the result... so I guess we must be patient."
Cadaveria recently made a guest appearance on Italian Death metallers Mechanical God Creation's new CD, performing backing vocals on the song "I Shall Remain Unforgiven."
Dutch heavy metal band METHUSALEM has set the release-date for their upcoming album "Unite and Conquer" for March 26. This self-financed album will be distributed by Rock Inc.
The band comments on the new album, "When the band decided that it was time for a new, full-length album, they threw overboard all biases about how heavy metal should sound and listened very carefully to what producer Arno Krabman from Graveland Studios had to say about their current style. The result is an album that features a bunch of songs that are all miles apart, some more traditional, some more modern, yet all fitting perfectly into Methusalem’s philosophy. That philosophy is still to rock the world with hard rock and heavy metal, but in stead of living in the past, they’ve now made an album that remembers the past." More...
