Isis has issued the following update about preparing to hit the road:
"Happy Spring time Everybody - Hope everyone is warming up after such a dreadful snowy winter. Anyhoo we're back from our NZ / AUS / Japan tour and of course it was a blast, thanks to everyone coming out and to Baroness who were f'n shredding like the madmen they are. Now it's time for more shows - this time in our own territory. We're gonna be playing with some great bands - Jakob (killer post-rock from New Zealand,) Tombs from Brooklyn, Melvins (!!!) and Cave In (that's right.) We're also be playing at this years Bonaroo Festival which should be good times as well. Hope to see you in a few."

World Under Blood, the melodic death metal side project featuring CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller alongside Tim Yeung on drums, Risha Eryavec on bass, and Luke Jaeger on guitar, has finished the recording process for their debut album for Nuclear Blast titled "Tactical." The record is tentatively due out sometime in the Summer of 2010.
Deron Miller commented: “Tracking for our first record for Nuclear Blast is complete! I flew out to James Murphy's home studio to track the rest of the vocals and it was a very gratifying experience. I was in total awe of his vinyl collection and his cat Sasha, but most of all I was enamored by the professionalism and discipline he instilled during these sessions that really put me in my place. James really brought out the best in me and having only had 2 producers in my entire career, I can say that I'm lucky to be continually working with James Murphy and Chad Ginsburg. I've realized that in the end, the only way to have a top-notch producer with an amazing ear is to be working with someone who has a musical history and a musical ability themselves. Not just some overpaid name/reputation dude that leaves Post-It notes on Pro-Tools monitors. Those days are over.
"The goal for the 8 original tunes that ended up on this album was that they would all be super fast, extremely brutal and harsh, catchy, melodic, and occasionally offensive & disturbing. I also had to make sure that the entire band was satisfied with their work. Tim Yeung is easily the most impressive drummer in the world. He thinks that some kid is going to come along and dethrone him speed-wise but as far as writing, arrangements, creative input and immediate knowledge of song structure he will never be beat. It's like the guy can read my mind. I present a somewhat intricate song to him and 50 minutes later we're demoed and done. Luke Jaeger flew through his solos in less than 8 hours. Murphy and I were thinking the same thing, ‘these solos have to be incredible and memorable’, not just finger flailing virtuoso garbage . He nailed them all. I wanted the best musicians for the job and i think we got it. More...

Swedish thrash metal band band The Haunted has announced the release of their live DVD/CD entitled “Road Kill” (artwork). The DVD features an in-depth, very unique “on the road movie” documentary, a recording of THE HAUNTED's current and up-to-date live set and the band’s recent promotional video clips as a bonus. The live show was captured in Amsterdam’s Melkweg on February 13th, 2009 by Fabchannel and its sound was mixed and mastered by longterm band-producer Tue Madsen (Sick Of It All, Dark Tranquillity, Heaven Shall Burn).
THE HAUNTED’s Anders Björler produced the documentary and looks forward to finally share it with the fans, commenting as follows: "Road Kill is 10 years of touring compressed into a 65-minute documentary feature. It's rough, dirty, honest and to the point. After working almost 2 years on and off on this film, I am pleased it will finally see the light of day."
Vocalist Peter Dolving adds, "This DVD is a slice of life, a peek into what it's like being on the road with THE HAUNTED. Buy it, watch and enjoy, when you are dead and buried you won't be able to, will you?"

German Epic Metal band ATLANTEAN KODEX and Italian label Cruz Del Sur Music announce to have signed a deal for the worldwide release of the upcoming debut ATLANTEAN KODEX album
"The Golden Bough."
Says guitar-player Manuel Trummer about the deal: "I couldn't have imagined anyone else than Cruz del Sur to release The Golden Bough. We‘re highly impressed by the work label-owner Enrico did in the past and we‘re honored to be on the same label like some of our favorite bands such as While Heaven Wept, Slough Feg, Twisted Tower Dire or Battleroar."
On behalf of Cruz Del Sur Music, label owner Enrico Leccese states: “I am very glad we have the opportunity of working together with ATLANTEAN KODEX. I am definitely impressed by the enthusiasm, the strength and motivation these guys have shown so far; that’s exactly what we’re looking for in a band. And the music contained in The Golden Bough is simply fantastic!” More...
CYNIC's upcoming EP, "Re-Traced," made from four remakes of songs from the "Traced in Air" album, a previously unreleased track and a video, is set for a May 17th release through Season of Mist. Here is the artwork. The tracklisting is as follows:
5. Wheels Within Wheels
Frontman Paul Masvidal comments: "The artwork on the EP takes Venosa's original song paintings from the 'Traced in Air' booklet and reinterprets them by extracting the basic outlines, almost appearing as though they are etched in wood. Travis Smith helped manifest these conceptions graphically. The idea was to have the 'tracing' of the original work in tact, so it almost morphs into a simple line drawing of the sculptural shapes found in Venosa's work. The end result appears like unearthed, archival etchings from an alien planet."
Swedish black metallers Dark Funeral have issued the following update about canceling another German tour date:

We're of course extremely disappointed by this, but there's unfortunately nothing we can do about it. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you."

New Jersey death metallers Ex Dementia have checked in with the following update about performing at the Maryland Death festival and writing material for a new EP:
"Alright, it's been a little while since we've had an update on what we're up to. And for good reason... There's not too much to report on. Since the release of ‘The Red Mass’ we've been kind of taking a break in terms of writing. As most of you know, in May we will be playing the pre-fest to the biggest metal party of the year. And that is the Maryland Death Fest. So, really all we've been focusing on is comprising a solid set-list, and practice, practice, practice. We're also going to try and get a few dates booked before the pre-fest, so look out for them.
"Shortly after the pre-fest, we will be writing for our next EP! Were not sure on the details for the next release, but I assure you the songs will rip! We've been wanting to write for a while now, but as I said, we've just been practicing the set. So come June, we should have some fast, catchy and relentless (demo) tracks to preview! So keep your ears and eyes peeled (literally) for that!
"And lastly, we'll be reprinting our ‘Thou Shall Repulse’ and ‘In The Chapters of Horror’ shirts very soon. And hopefully by the fall (possibly Halloween), we'll have ‘The Red Mass’ design ready to print! But we'll see. Well, until May/June... Fuck off!"

"Hey all!! We have been busting our balls to make sure we are ready to kill some hearing frequencies at our show in Concord, California this weekend. So much is going on with us that it is hard to focus on just one thing sometimes. So we have taken time off of writing and pre-production for our second album to practice for the live gig. Its all good, we promise to return to our writing duties after this! We just wanted to play the best we could possibly play this weekend.
"We have told you about our upcoming re-release of 'Memoirs of a Broken Man' with a bonus DVD and new album art, yes? Well, I am sure we have. This past weekend we started discussing the content of the DVD because it is important that you get your money's worth! That being said, we have decided that not only will it include live footage of our show at Progpower USA last year, but a mini documentary filled with stuff about each one of us, as well as the history of the band. As always, we cannot give up control of such a work to someone else, so we will be producing and editing this fucker ourselves. We are totally stoked to be putting this together for you. Will keep ya posted!"

Polish death metallers Vader have checked in from the road with the following tour report:
"The Blitzkrieg 5 Tour 2010 is going on without any major obstacles. Vader and their brothers in crime As You Drown and Divine Chaos are playing great shows every night. Gigs in London, Dublin, Glasgow, Groningen and Kassel were definitely the most special ones during the whole tour. Primarily due to ubiquitous Polish immigrants who come to the shows to support Polish death metal legend. We would like to thank you all for that huge, outstanding support! Jeszcze Polska nie zginela...
"We also want to apologize for the canceled show in Nottingham. Unfortunately, the venue rented for the show by a local promoter was definitely way too small. Actually, that's not a good place for a metal gig. We preferred to cancel the show rather than kill one another. OK, what's next? During the final part of the tour Vader and support acts are going to invade Scandinavia. Tomorrow (March 16) we will play a show in Kopenhagen. After that we'll appear on 4 shows in Sweden. Unfortunately, the currently running tour won't cover Norway, Finland and the Baltic States. See you next time!"
Video footage from Vader's current tour can also be viewed below. More...

Also one more cool show right before releasing the album will be announced very soon when everything`s fixed and confirmed with the local organizer, stay tuned for that as it will be a very special appearance just right before the Rebirth of Visions of Atlantis!
"Stay tuned for a huge wave of information right after Easter and a very very detailed Studio-Diary including pics, vids, blogs by the VoA-members and of course the information about the title of our new Album and even more stuff..... We`re very excited and looking forward happily to the next 9 Months and of course to the further and brighter future of VoA! Cu all soon, stay tuned for further news."
Wyoming's Condemned Remains has issued the following update about recruiting a new bassist and working on a new album:
"If you haven't noticed we announced the return of Zach Martin. Zach was part of the band when it was created in 2008, before departing for his other band Reproacher. He decided to leave Reproacher due to personal reasons, and returned to Condemned Remains to fill in the bass duties.
"Also, we recently played the West Texas Death Fest over the past weekend. We would like to thank everyone at Deadflesh Productions for putting on a killer fest, and all the great bands that came out and played. We got to re-unite/meet some bad ass people. We had a great time down in Texas, and plan to return!
"Finally, we would like to announce that we have started the writing process on the 2010 full length. A name has yet to be put together for the album, but will be determined shortly. We are still searching for the right label to release this under, and where we would like to record it. We will be recording songs at our local studio to see if we can get the sound we like there, we will post the tracks on the Space, so keep a look out for those! That's about it, keep checking the page for more updates and shows! "
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Special Ops guitarist Akbar shares a fun crowd surfing story with us:
"Mosh story, Crazy out door show, I think it was Vans Warped Tour or something, I forget the band that was playing, I was a bit too inebriated. lol. Been in the pit all day and by now the batteries are starting to run a bit low after 4 hrs.
"Last band goes on, and all I feel is the waist band of my pants being pulled up along with my feet being grabbed, next thing I know I'm lying down on top of the crowd staring at the sky with the band rocking out, then all of a sudden they sit me up. Here I am sitting on people's hands like it was my lazy boy watching the show, so I start asking them to move me around and they did, turned me around and I saw a sea of heads! All I could think of was man I need to play that stage, and we eventually did :)) and who, next thing I now I'm being turned over on my belly, and being shoved towards the front - still kinda cool in the mental state I was in, but then, a pair of strong ass hands grab my shoulders and the rest keep pushing but the shoulders are staying put, seconds later I'm in an inverted cross position facing the crowd, thinking HOLY SHIIIIIT DON'T DROP ME! while smiling of course. lol
"Anyhow, it turned out to be a good friend, and he threw me on my back again and into the crowd, only this time I didn't end up standing on my head, they started tossing me up and down, and then they gave a big throw, tossing me a good 3 feet in the air, and they cleared, leaving me to fall a good 8-10 feet flat on my back. Very very dangerous and stupid move on their end, I could have been paralyzed if I wasn't smart enough to grab someones shirt to get me to hit the floor ass first which hurt, but not as bad as if I had landed flat on my back.
"That was the longest surf I had done ever, and probably the most fun. to anyone out there thinking of dropping people on their backs, you can really hurt someone while doing that. \m/\m/"

Prosthetic Records is currently auctioning an Epiphone Prophecy Futura Custom EX on eBay, with all proceeds benefitting the T.J. Martell Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports research for cancer, AIDS and leukemia. The guitar will be signed by the six Prosthetic acts who will play the label's inaugural SXSW showcase at Mohawk in Austin, Texas on Wednesday night (Mar. 17): Scale The Summit, Landmine Marathon, Withered, Book of Black Earth, The Funeral Pyre and Clinging To The Trees of a Forest Fire.
The T.J. Martell Foundation was recommended to Prosthetic by the management of legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer late last year. A 501(c)3 non-profit founded in the 1970s, the Foundation has helped Dio receive key treatment in his
ongoing battle against cancer. More information on the organization can be found at www.tjmartellfoundation.org.
Prosthetic was honored to receive these words of encouragement directly from Dio himself shortly after the auction went live on Monday:
"It's great to be a part of your wonderful charitable event, and all the caring performers who are giving of themselves to aid the charity of my choice. My current misfortune has opened my eyes to the constant need for funds to battle the ravages of cancer, and I am therefore pleased to endorse your efforts to auction off an Epiphone guitar signed by the aforementioned musicians to benefit the T.J.Martell Cancer Foundation. Let's hope a generous amount of money can be raised for this ultra-worthy cause. Thanks so much for you concern and humanity. It's a gesture of kindness I will never forget.
Love and Magic to you all,
Ronnie James Dio"

This year’s Celebrity Apprentice Reality television show gives us a couple of rock n’ roll “celebrities” as well as comedy gold in Bret Michaels and Sharon Osbourne.
As with the Rock of Love show, the Bret Michaels drinking game will be in play, with a twist, instead of the word AWESOME, we will be using ROCK. I prefer Patron tequila, but for those playing along while reading the column I suggest something from the schnapps family, and for those reading this in the morning, maybe a stiff Bloody Mary, or an ice cold Stella. In a recent interview with Metal-Rules.com, KISS frontman Paul Stanley spoke about the bands latest studio album, "Sonic Boom" and the question of whether or not KISS plan to continue writing more music in the future. An excerpt from the interview reads as follows:
Q: Overall, how satisfied you are for the sales numbers and overall feedback what you’ve got of Sonic Boom? Was there anything surprising there either in positive or negative way?
Stanley: "I’m thrilled because it’s a great album. I said from the beginning whether it sells 10 million copies or 1 million copies, it’s all the same to me. At this stage of the game it about making a great album, anything else is just a bonus. In America we had the album available exclusively at one place which has a good side and a bad side. The good side is they support is, the bad side is, it’s the only place you can get it. So there are plusses and minuses but I couldn’t want a better album, I couldn’t imagine a better album." More...
