Ryan Ogle recently conducted an extensive interview with Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy guitarist Marc Rizzo for CrusherMagazine.com. They cover Rizzo's solo project, flammenco influences, Soulfly, and The Cavalera Conspiracy. Here's an excerpt from the interview:
Ryan Ogle: You’re also part of what is arguably one the most anticipated metal band ever, Cavalera Conspiracy.
Marc Rizzo: That’s another great project. That’s a funny story too; I was on tour with Flaw and had to jump off the tour early and fly out to LA from Michigan because we were starting the record. It was just kind of a last minute thing. To be in the studio with Max and Igor…Damn, it was like a dream come true for me. It was so weird, because I was such a huge fan of Sepultura and grew up listening to them and playing their songs in cover bands. To be in the studio with Igor and Max and to be a part of the writing process; it was unbelievable. It definitely sounds like old Sepultura – Arise, Chaos A.D – but it’s got its own vibe to it. It’s hard to say. When you hear it, you’re gonna say "Okay, this is Igor and Max." But it has its own vibe too.

Guitarist/vocalist Kurt Bachman of the reactivated late '80s/early '90s technical-thrash metal band BELIEVER has posted the following message on the group's MySpace page:
"I'm happy to report that the work [on the new BELIEVER album] is flowing nicely. We really can't wait to start mixing, but we have some finishing musical touches to put down first. The plan is to start vocals very soon and hopefully crush through those. We need to put some minor guitar parts in also and some other 'interesting' things. Very few have heard the songs, but we've been getting amazing positive feedback from those who have-both longtime BELIEVER fans and some who have only heard bits and pieces from our past. Thanks again to all of you who have been keeping the buzz alive by posting the vids and tunes on your MySpace and web pages and introducing others to our stuff!"
Swedish metallers WOLF have issued the following update:
"As many of you know, and many of you DON'T know, WOLF did a cover of MERCYFUL FATE's 'A Dangerous Meeting' on the 2002 release 'Black Wings'. We thought we'd share that with those off you that missed out, so we 'gave' the song to the WOLF UK MySpace site. We're fans of metal, good metal that is, and there's no doubt about the impact MERCYFUL FATE have had on WOLF, so we did a cover of 'em to show our appreciation. Getting the (devilish) blessing from several MERCYFUL FATE members for that version made us believe in metal even more!"
Check out the song at their Myspace page.

New York City thrashers SUN DESCENDS, who feature in their ranks former EXUMER vocalist Mem von Stein, will release their new album, "The Entropy Formula," in April via Khaosmaster Productions (Puerto Rico). The artwork will feature an illustration by Sean Taggart.
The first song from "The Entropy Formula" is available for streaming on SUN DESCENDS' MySpace page. The six-minute track "3 Corners of Hell" is the group's first new material to surface in the two years since the band's first full-length release in early 2006.
Commented Mem von Stein: "The music on SUN DESCENDS' new album is as relevant as the music on 'Possessed by Fire', which I recorded with EXUMER back in 1986. Let's just hope that the thrash frenzy of today won't be exploited as it was in the '80s, causing thrash metal to come to a creative full-stop. Otherwise I am amazed at the comeback thrash metal has made and I am very hopeful that the new SUN DESCENDS album will be received positively." More...

Hold True Recordings has sent in the following post-drive update about the recent food drive they were involved with:
"Hold True Recordings (Bolton, MA) and 91.5fm WUML (Lowell, MA) held a very successful 'on-air' food drive featuring live performances by Beautiful Gorgeous, Dour Cursiva and Acariya. The event brought in a healthy amount of non-perishable caned food and toiletries for the Operation: Military Kids Emergency Food Program, which is housed at the Quinsigamond Village Community Center, in Worcester Ma. Dave Johnson, the director of the QVCC has informed HTR that the food program has taken some major hits over the past few months. Local stores and grocery chains have been opting to sell their dented and dinged caned food to Ocean State Job Lot rather than donate it as they had in the past. This of course means trouble for the families of deployed veterans, whose household income is disrupted from long deployments and re-deployments overseas, who now must depend on the programs 'on demand' food rations. With the projected price of food to increase beyond the rate of inflation from 2008-2010 HTR and WUML's efforts could not be more desperately needed."

August Burns Red guitarist JB Brubaker is currently hobbled with foot injury that may be a fracture. Brubaker explains:
"During Every Time I Die's last song at the House of Blues in Dallas, I went to do a 'sweet' stage dive but ended up jumping too far into the crowd, landing in the pit and coming down very hard on my right heel. I haven't been able to walk on it since and I've been hobbeling around on crutches for the time being. Unfortunately, my busted heel keeps me from running around and rocking out like I would like to when we play. I am getting x-rays on Monday and I will find out if it's officially fractured or not.
I wanted to thank everyone for putting up with me and my gimp foot for the past week and for having a good time during our set. I also want to apologize for not being able to go off 100% for you and I promise I'm doing what I can to get this foot of mine back in working order as soon as possible."
Shai Hulud are finally back with their new album (and Metal Blade Records debut) "Misanthropy Pure." Recorded at Silver Bullet Media in Connecticut and mixed by Eric Rachel at Trax East, "Misanthropy Pure," the band's first offering in over five years, Shai Hulud kicks it old school, according to founding member Matt Fox. "It's faster, slower, more metal, less metal, more rock, more progressive, and less progressive than anything we've ever done."
Musically, the album combines hardcore, thrash, punk and metal, and siphons influence from diverse sources, ranging from Metallica to Burn to Testament to Dead Kennedy's to Circle Jerks. "We were influenced by Youth of Today and Testament from day one," Fox says proudly of the days before the term "metalcore" even existed. He admits they up the ante, refusing to adhere to trends or to cash in on some musical renaissance. "It's like that movie Deep Blue Sea," Fox says. "The tagline on the DVD box is 'Bigger. Faster. Smarter. Meaner.' That's how this record is. Is it the best thing we've ever done? I don't know. We'll leave that to those who listen."
"Misanthropy Pure" was written and recorded by Matt Fox (guitars), Matt Fletcher (bass), Matt Mazzali (vocals), and Andrew Gormley (drums).

As previously reported, SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner, current F5/former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, ex-JUDAS PRIEST/ICED EARTH and current Beyond Fear/Yngwie Malmsteen singer Tim "Ripper" Owens and DAITRIBE guitarist Tristan "1690" Grigsby have joined forces to record a song for the upcoming tribute album to late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Entitled "Leave It Alone", the track features solos by special guests Nick Bowcott (ex-GRIM REAPER) and fan Brian Cashmore. It was recorded and mixed in Chicago at Farview Recording by Jason Walsh, with additional tracks recorded at Saltmine studios in Phoenix, Arizona and Galahad Studios in Cleveland Ohio.
David Ellefson states "Ironically, it led to a really cool metal jam we did for Rockhouse at WNAMM this past year, a gig which brought in our friend "Ripper" to really tear it up on vox. "Leave It Alone" is not only a cool song but it was also the beginning of a great working relationship with me and Jason Bittner doing clinics, jams, and so forth.
"Leave It Alone" will be released to radio in April and will be made available for download exclusively via iTunes. All proceeds from the song will go to the Little Kids Rock school program.
An audio sample of the track is available at this location.
Little Kids Rock believes that all children in our public schools deserve music education as music education is a transforming force in children's lives. Dimebag had the same philosophy with always sharing his passion and love of music to the world inspiring kids to pick up a guitar.

Vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw of Sweden's PAIN OF SALVATION has issued the following update:
"We are putting together a nice DVD for you, with some nice bonus material for those who crave it. Problem right now is we haven't decided on the title yet, but we have a bunch of good ones to choose from. 'Sub Par', 'Briefly Described', 'Insert Random Word-Joke Containing the Word 'LIVE', 'Not A Concept' and 'Want Your Name Here?' are just a few of them. We'll see what comes down when we have shaken it long enough."
"Most of you know that Léo Margarit from France is the new drummer of the band. We are rehearsing new material now and learning to know each other musically as well as personally — and he is also in the process of moving to Sweden." More...
Motley Crue Bassist Nikki Sixx has issued the following blog:
"I fucking love this new MÖTLEY CRÜE album. Tommy's kickin' ass, Vince sounds insane and Mars is shredding on guitars. It doesn't feel like one song is better or worse than any other. It feels so good to be excited about something you've worked on so hard... I'm so excited for you all to hear it."
