Hansi Kürsch, the frontman of German power metal outfit Blind Guardian has posted a message online discussing the band's recent tour. He also discusses the future of his side project, Demonds & Wizards. His message reads as follows:
"Another year, another message. Here, as promised a little while ago, the ultimate report about what we were dealing with the past few months and what to expect for the upcoming year. I assume everyone reading these lines has had a chance to discover At the Edge of Time and hopefully still enjoys it as much as we do. The very positive feedback we have gotten worldwide is of course a strong motivation for us. As said at other places before, we consider this album as the perfect connection between new and old. It contains a little bit of everything but still has a strong musical thread running throughout and offers us many options for our next projects.
"It is no surprise when I tell you that the next journey will certainly lead us into an even more classical direction. There will be a few more trips to Prague necessary to finalize all orchestral recordings for our classical project but all things must come to an end eventually. The result of the stuff we have already recorded keeps me in a very good and optimistic mood, even though I consider the wait until the project’s completion very painful. Charlie (Bauerfeind) and I nonetheless will start working on the first vocal recordings during the next days. Since we will be interrupted by quite a lot of upcoming shows I would be happy if I were to find myself in a position to finish the first five songs vocalwise before the year is over. It is challenging stuff for everyone. One fine day, all of a sudden, when no one expects it, I will announce its completion. Certainly not within the next twelve months, but one very, very fine day.
From one long-term project to another. As we had time to share some serious moments with each other during the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise (somewhere on the oceans of time) Jon (Schaffer; Iced Earth) and I had finally found the chance to put our minds together for a possible next Demons & Wizards album. We cheerfully simultaneously announced our wish to start working on it as quickly as possible. Although time is an issue for both of us we nonetheless decided to start songwriting together during the European summer festival season when Jon will be in Europe for Iced Earth performances. During that season we will use every possible moment to complete as much material as possible. To guarantee a good-mood-songwriting feeling I have already saved some good bottles of red wine and a smaller amount of Johnny Walker black label in our studio. Things are still in the mist but we are about to recognize structures of a busy future. More...
Polish death metal veterans Vader haved announced that they have begun recording their new studio album. A message from the group reads as follows:
"We started new recordings in Hertz Studios in Bialystok. We spent the whole afternoon being setting up drum kit, testing new skins and cymbals. There was also time to familiarize with new architecture of lately much rebuilded studio. Day One in production of Welcome To The Morbid Reich. We plan to record nine-ten fresh songs and three bonus pieces: redux of one old Vader classic (which is gonna be added to the refreshed live set for summer) and two cover songs (those will be kinda surprise for many for sure).
"Spider also prepared few songs for the record and this will be his debut in Vader as a composer. There will be several studio reports available soon. The first episode should be ready by the end of March. You will be informed about the progress of the album. Welcome to the new world of the Morbid Reich!"

If you haven't already got your tickets for this show, make sure you pick some up now and come join in for a once-in-a-lifetime show made even more unique!"
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories from metal shows. In this week's edition of Pit Stories, vocalist/guitarist Eric Horner from Throne of Malediction shares a story of a groupie cat fight:
I had a fun time at a Cradle of Filth/Nachtmystium show at The Knitting Factory, February 12th, in Spokane Washington. Seeing killer bands in my local area and gaining VIP access (along with my key player, Nick), thanks to Blake from Nachtmystium, were highlights. While watching and filming Cradle of Filth play in the VIP section, a few ladies decided to duke it out. One of them was a lady that was hanging out with me and the band members earlier. It was quite a surreal sight, seeing a brawl, with a great band playing. Kind of made my show better, to say the least.
I took some video of the scene. Along with other footage from the show. I am not sure why they even battled, but it was kind of interesting, unexpected, scene. There were hair extensions laying about afterward. The VIP section had a blast swinging them about and fashioning fake beards from the hair pieces. I also heard there was a fight in the pit around the same time. Must have been the metal-hungry crowd in Spokane, Washington. I want to thank the bands for stopping out!
You can check out several Throne of Malediction songs available for streaming or free download through the band's Revernation page.
Be sure to check back next Tuesday for more pit stories.

As Blood Runs Black has now released the band's new album "Instinct" through Mediaskare Records. Sleeping Giant will be special guests during the west coast dates of the tour. For additional information and tour dates visit the band's Facebook page at this location.
Drummer Lech states: "No words can even express the excitement of finally having a new record out. It's been a long, brutal and bumpy road. It feels good to finally step over that hurdle. It's great to see all our hard work is paying off. The turnouts and participation on the 'Atticus Metal Tour' have been strong and the feedback/response we've been receiving has far exceeded our expectations. This type of thing doesn't happen too often to bands in similar situations. We owe it all to our fans! They've allowed us to put the past behind us and gave us the chance to continue and further our legacy. We would like to thank them all for this blessing and opportunity because without them, we wouldn't have a dream to live.
“With Instinct finally done we can now project our energy towards playing shows and touring the world. Be sure to catch us on tour, and don't be afraid to come hangout and introduce yourself. See you on the road!"

Season of Mist, in collaboration with Greyhaze Records, will be releasing the debut album from Nader Sadek on May 16th in Europe and May 17th in North America.
So far Egyptian-born artist Nader Sadek was mostly known as the designer responsible for the stage imagery on Mayhem's 2009 U.S. tour, but he decided to delve deeper into the metal world by forming his own project. He then teamed up with Rune Eriksen (AVA INFERI, AURA NOIR, ex MAYHEM), Steve Tucker (ex MORBID ANGEL), and Flo Mounier (CRYPTOPSY) to create a death metal project under his own name.
The artist recently commented on "In the Flesh", Nader Sadek's debut: "We created a monstrous machine of an art piece that I believe will shock the senses and open people's minds. The hybrid of influences is by far one of the most unique works to have come out in recent memory. Flo's attack resembles machinery inside a tank on a battlefield, while still being able to lucratively reproduce the sound of hive of knives swarming and tearing skin to vapor. Each hit and bang is strategically and intelligently placed. Building on top are the mind bending guitars of Rune, which quickly stab razor-like, shredding the inner layers of the skin with palm muted aggression and psychopathic minor chords, creating a sculpture of flesh and metallic bone. Flowing into the bloodstream of this skeleton immortal life is injected though the burning voice of a god, Steve performs with aggression and anger unheard before. I am truly proud of this creation and grateful to my new brothers. I cannot wait for it to be unleashed onto the world!"
"Being part of this first album was something amazing!" drummer Flo Mounier adds. "It's always great working with professionals to create music that's new and different. Rune, Steve and Nader have become good buddies in the process and we look forward to writing new stuff under the Nader Sadek name. That fact that all our backgrounds in life and music are so different enables us to create uniqueness!"
The track listing is as follows:
3. Of this Flesh (Novus Deus)
4. Exhaust Capacitor
6. Rusted Skin
7. Mechanic Idolatry
9. Nigredo in Necromance More...
French extreme metal outfit Gojira has announced that the band is currently at work on both a live DVD, and the next full length studio album. A message from the band reads as follows:
"We are currently working on a live DVD with important bonus section: The Way Of All Flesh From The Inside, the Sea Shepherd EP, (a non profit operation with a lot of people involved is a bit complicated to wrap, but we're getting there and we promise to release these songs soon).
"We're also composing a new album! We've written pretty much half of it, and we are very excited by this new material. It's a big step for us. These songs are original and a good reflection of what we are today.
"We are so focused on these things, that sometimes we forget to communicate with you guys, but we'll try to post more updates from now on. Big thanks to all of you for your patience and support. Cheers from the practice room!"

Metal Blade Records has issued the following announcement about inking a record deal with Intensus:
"Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of Intensus, an exciting and unique recording project masterminded by multi-instrumentalist Eli Litwin, drummer of Knife the Glitter, Burden, Normal Love and others. A resident of Philadelphia for many years, Litwin has been active in the local metal and underground rock scenes, as well as the avant-garde/improvised music scene. Through merging and reinterpreting these dynamic scenes, the vision for Intensus was born: an improvised extreme metal album with one goal in mind—intensity.
"The first, self-titled Intensus album features vocals from Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me), Robert Meadows (A Life Once Lost), Jesse Korman (The Number Twelve Looks Like You), Chris Alfano (East of the Wall / Postman Syndrome), Jerry Jones (Trophy Scars), Travis Weinand (Burden / Tetsuo), Evan Moore (Gypsy Wig / Birth Screams), and Ruston Grosse. Also featured on the album, Alex Nagle (Satanized / ex-Normal Love) and Jason Herrmann (Burden / Tetsuo) lend their guitar shredding skills for 2 incredible solos."
Eli Litwin comments: "It is an incredible honor to be signed with Metal Blade Records. Cannibal Corpse’s The Bleeding was one of the first metal albums I ever heard so I feel as though things have really come full circle. I am beyond excited that such an important and influential label will be releasing my music to the world."
Guest vocalist Tommy Rogers of Between The Buried And Me, comments: "Working on the Intensus record was a breath of fresh air. It was nice to take a totally different approach to writing and recording. When Eli sent me the songs he told me he had written a lot of the material through improv. So I decided to take the same route and write/record the vocals on the fly. It was a very exciting experience. My motivation: let go and destroy my fucking voice. This music is truly intense and I'm very happy to be a part of it." More...

After five years, Dragonland's fifth album and follow up to 2006's "Astronomy" is nearing completion. The album is set to be recorded at Hansen Studios starting May 31st. Guitarist Olof Mörck commented on the twelve songs to be recorded:
"After 5 years of doing concepts, writing lyrics and composing we are seeing the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel! After 'Astronomy' we knew we needed to explore our music further not to risk becoming a band that releases music every year cast in the same mold, so the idea from the beginning was; what would it be like with a metal album based in fantasy that respects the literary genre, that actually tries to be mature and that enriches said fantasy world with inspiration from millenias of human mythology? To make a neoclassical album filled with overly bombastic clichés of steel clad warriors was out of the question - instead we explored the themes and sounds around various fantasy movies, new and old, and also countless computer RPG soundtracks to infuse the musical aspect with a genuine fantasy feel, and as previously stated heaps and stacks of tomes on every mythological tale from Gilgamesh to the Aeneid provided a genuine and credible backdrop to the story.
"The album is genuinely a concept album in every aspect, and we will collaborate with some truly gifted artists who are experts in this genre to bring our world to life visually - more on that soon.
Prepare yourself to be engulfed in a world of enchanting phantasy and songs of swirling magic later this year!"
Dragonland also recently signed to AFM Records. The statement from the band can be found here.
Swedish heavy metal outfit Grand Magus has announced that the band has been forced to cancel a planned European tour with Grave Digger, after drummer Sebastian was hospitalized with blood clots in his leg. A message from the band reads as follows:
"It is with deep sadness we deliver the the news that Grand Magus drummer Sebastian has been afflicted with deep vein thrombosis - blood clots in the deep veins of the legs. The immediate effect of this is that he can't play at all because of the pain and swelling. However, this is a serious condition that must be treated immediately to avoid that the clots travels to the lungs. He's in hospital at the moment and will initially be treated via injections and pills with anti-coagulation medicine. For the duration of the treatment he'll have to be checked daily at the hospital. Anti-coagulation medicine also has dangerous side effects, most obvious that bleeding or blows to the body must be avoided at all costs, since the blood won't stop flowing. In the case of internal bleeding it could be lethal.
"Grand Magus wish to extend their deepest apologies to all who were looking forward to bang their heads to Magus during this european tour, and also to Grave Digger. This is a terrible situation, but really a case of Force Majeure and not something that can be solved in any other way due to the circumstances."

"Today we begin recording the bass guitar on the record! This record will be the first I have ever done as a 3 piece. Nick Sterling is a monster bass player & if anyone else played on the record I would just say 'play it like Nick did', so hey why not let the man himself handle the low end. Swedish heavy metal outfit Hammerfall has announced that the band will be releasing the brand new studio album, "Infected" on May 20th. The album consists eleven songs, and the limited first edition will also include a bonus DVD with unreleased video material of five of the "Infected" tracks. The record was produced by James Michael, who has previously worked with the likes of Motley Crue and the Scorpions.
"James helped us create something that was new and exciting while still in the line of our heritage," Oscar Dronjak, guitar player and founder of the band, explains.
“Never before have we sounded this fresh and up to date without losing the essence of what HammerFall is all about: Pure 'Infected' Heavy Metal!” comments vocalist and frontman Joacim Cans.
"You will experience us like you've never done before! We've got a lot of fresh influences shining through in the music, but everything you love about HammerFall will still be there," says Oscar. "This is HammerFall in 2011, the legend has been reborn!"
Kvohst, vocalist of the British/Norwegian black metal act Code, has left the band. Code guitarist Aort has posted the following statement online, announcing the departure:
"With regret, I would like to announce that Kvohst has left Code in order to concentrate on his own music with Hexvessel and vocals with Dodheimsgard. I, of course, wish him all the best for the future and extend my thanks for 10 years of pleasurable and productive work together.
"This is not the end, but hopefully a shift in course to fresh destinations.
"I have been working with a great new musical lineup over the last half a year or so to really hone where the new album will be heading. I have been working on this new album for the last two years and we all believe very strongly in it's potential as a dynamic follow-up to 'Resplendent Grotesque'.
"How this will be realised vocally is not clear at the moment. There are many questions that remain unanswered... but there are irons in fires. The one certainty is that I am as determined as I have ever been and I will put the same unflinching soul and dedication into the future as I have with both of our albums to date. I also have new projects afoot which will up the ante in terms of brutality and darkness so please keep your eyes peeled for more information.
"Thanks, as ever, to all those who find a home within Code's musical endeavours… Your continued support is always massively appreciated."
Devin Townsend has posted the following statement online announcing plans to release a new live concert DVD as well as a new box set:
"So this intense period of time that has resulted in the four albums of the Devin Townsend Project, as well as a new band, and a bevy of other things is cresting at the end of this year in some VERY special shows!
"I will be performing each album in its entirety for a DVD as well as album release to coincide with the boxset. These shows are very exclusive and will be held in special venues in the U.K., and seating will be limited. The tickets will go on sale soon and it's best to reserve if you want to be a part of this.
"I have been planning these shows with the new management and we believe that this year will end in some pretty special ways. Preparations have begun now, and we would love you to be a part of it."
The Crimson Armada has posted the following update online, announcing the replacements for its recently departed Drummer and Guitarist.
"Hey guys. Just wanted to fill in everyone with the obvious lineup change and clear up any confusion regarding new members. We have recruited Brandon McMaster (formerly of Sleeping with Sirens) on guitar and Jordan Matz (formerly of Like Moths to Flames) on drums. Josh and David left the band earlier this year on mutual terms and with zero hard feelings.
"Both of them decided that a career in full time touring was not for them and are pursuing other non-musical endeavors. Again, this is NO bad blood between us (some of us actually all still live together off tour). We are really excited to have Brandon and Jordan and to continue on the new direction for TCA.
"This change in lineup does not affect our style or ANY of our material at all. David and Josh’s decision to leave the band was thought out as far back as early fall 2010 before the Miss May I tour. We wish them the best and are stoked to move on with the new and improved Crimson lineup."

"'Pi' was written and recorded only a few days before the completion of the Master copy, at around 10 am, with a couple of serious hangovers. Justin and I had talked about having a classical guitar intro into some sort of heavier riffage, but we weren't quite sure what that was exactly going to be."
