The Alien Blakk doesn’t just have a unique and experimental sound, they have a unique outlook on making music. “There may have been a few third takes on the album but it wasn’t due to playing it was due to technical situations. I don’t really believe in doing it too many times. If you can do it you can do it, if you can’t you shouldn’t be there” says band founder and front man Joshua Craig. Their second album "Bekoming" is soon to be released, which was an endeavor three years in the making featuring musicians from bands such as CKY, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Megadeth. During my chat with Joshua we discussed the making of "Bekoming," the stellar guest appearance from Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame, and the two cover tracks on the album. More...
Korn has announced they will be embarking on their upcoming "Ballroom Blitz Tour" in anticipation of their new album, "Korn III: Remember Who You Are," which is tentatively set for a summer 2010 release. The album is produced by Ross Robinson, who produced the first two Korn records. Joining Korn as openers are Los Angeles rockers 2 Cents.
Jonathan Davis commented on the Ballroom Blitz Tour and new album: “There is no sitting down on this one! We nicknamed this tour the Ballroom Blitz because that's what we want to see out there, the die-hard Korn fans going nuts on the floor. On Korn III: Remember Who You Are it was the first time we've worked with Ross since our 2nd album and these were the types of gigs we played back then. Those early tours were some of the best times of our lives. Now we are looking to bring that vibe back in a big way.”

Swedish metallers Katatonia have checked in from the road with a second tour blog on Ultimate-guitar.com. An excerpt from the blog follows:
"March 4th, 2010, Thursday… Woke up in Cologne, parked outside the Luxor venue. Apparently, we had played here before because the other guys recognized it already from the outside and then I saw our old stickers backstage, but couldn't fucking recall it. Not the venue, not the backstage, nothing really made my memories come alive, am I getting senile? Got the information that the gig was yet again sold out! Best news you can get to set the right vibe for the rest of the afternoon. Luckily, this venue had a shower as well, and all bands know but fans might not, how much you appreciate this when you live amongst 20 sweaty men in the same bus with dirty laundry and no showering/washing facilities.
"We got a nice meal at the Indian restaurant next door. Thumbs up 'cuz I love Indian food! Gig went better than last night, but there are still some nerves and technical things to sort. The crowd was good though! I guess we need a couple of gigs in our backbone to fully be able to bring on the confidence. This was the last German gig until we return for the remaining five dates next month. You can tell the new guys are loving it! More...
American metal outfit As I Lay Dying has revealed the tracklisting for their forthcoming fifth studio album, "The Powerless Rise." You can check it out at the bottom of the page. The album will be released through Metal Blade Records on May 11th.

Ex Deo, the Roman themed band featuring Maurizio Iacono of Kataklysm, has debuted the brand new video for the track "The Final War (Battle of Actium)," which deals with Antony and Cleopatra's defiance of Octavian in Egypt. Karl Sanders of Nile makes a special guest appearance on this track with a guitar solo.
Commented Maurizio Iacono: "It's an honor for me that such talented musicians and friends lent their art for a couple songs on this album. I only asked a few selected people that had involvement with history through their music and related to this band's concept, so I salute them for contributing to Rome's rise and they shall be amply rewarded for it."
Noisecreep.com recently conducted a video interview with Alice In Chains members Sean Kinney and Mike Inez. The video of the interview can be viewed below.
New York metallers Amalgama have issued the following statement about parting ways with their lead guitarist:
"For all those who were present for our last headlining show at The Dublin Underground on March 3rd you were witness to Amalgama lead-guitarist Nate's last live performance with the band. It's been a wild few years playing shows with Nate - first playing bass and then moving to his preferred instrument and skill-set: lead guitar - but he's decided to focus on another one of his passions working in the live entertainment field behind the mixing board. We can still remember Nate splitting his head open on a cymbal during a show in Worchester, MA during a rather intense headbanging session while onstage! He's a man of few words but when he opens his mouth its usually to imbue the rest of us with some wisdom & level-headed thinking. His presence will be missed.
"Fear not, metal-faithful. Nate's departure won't slow us down one bit. We've been working with a new player who will hopefully make his presence and identity known in the coming weeks in a changing of the guard of sorts. Stay tuned and watch for pictures from Saturday and Sunday's recording session! We'll be twittering (is that even a word?) and uploading pictures all weekend. Until then, stay metal."
California's Anger as Art has issued the following update about an upcoming live DVD release:
"So I finally got a chance to see some of the footage from our recent Galaxy Theatre show. Man, am I happy we had Medal Media come down and shoot this show for us. We tried to do this with Medal Media a couple of years ago when we had a So Cal date with Testament and Laaz Rockit, but it was one of those shows you'd rather forget - immortalized on tape! (you'll never see it - LOL)
"This time... complete opposite. The band was very sharp, but also - the lighting and sound were perfect - and you guys in the crowd? Well, you were loud... let's just say that. Freddy and staff were on point - 5 cameras didn't miss a thing. We are in the midst of editing this into a concise concert video, along with some behind the scenes footage of the band on tour, and recording the 'Disfigure' album... you know, like a real rock band! Except it's us - go figure! Release date forthcoming...
"Another Southern California show coming up - this with label mates Hexen. Other shows coming with OSM's Potential Threat. Also, you will notice that we are starting to post some of our European tour dates - a further announcement will be made when the shows are locked in and confirmed. A few more reviews (I hear that we finally got a bad one!) and a lot more sales. Thanks for your enthusiasm and support."

Germany's Paradox has issued the following update about the band's lack of live activity and working on a new full-length album to release in 2011:
"Due to numerous inquiries for Live lacking presence of Paradox in Germany now for this an official statement from the band. Despite outstanding CD criticisms of the current album 'Riot Squad' many of you may ask themselves, why PARADOX show so little Live presence. Why Paradox are not booked is reasoned by the fact that our native concert agencies and festival-bookers for what reason always, shows no interest into Paradox.
"They still ignore us. Their business runs among themselves and we belongs not to the family. Therefore play also in all regularity same bands on the bigger festivals. It is not because of us that Paradox gets to see so rare. We want to give concerts, but nobody of them give us a chance. If you want to see us playing live, then please write to the magazines, which meanwhile already call Paradox as Germany`s most underrated band or to the forums of the festival sites.
"The Band already began with the song writing to the 6th studio album, which will be released in 2011 to their 25th anniversary. Metal UP!

Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am exploring the Los Angeles metal scene.
If you live in Los Angeles, or have been to a metal show, whether it be death metal, thrash metal, or just metal, you may have become accustomed to watching several unsigned bands perform before an advertised lineup start their sets. As soon as you're inside the venue, the bands set up, and they finally play. Sometimes, these bands make your want to run into a brick wall, head first, because they are an awful, yet convoluted noise somehow crushed on top of fingernails scratching across a chalk board. But, on rare occasions, you finally notice a band that would be, in your eyes, considered an artist in the making. Here are three unsigned metal bands from Los Angeles and surrounding areas that definitely need to be heard and given a chance in the world of heavy metal. More...

You may be wondering why the grandson of country artist Hank Williams is showing up on a metal website. Hank III does play traditional country music akin to his grandfather’s style, but he’s been a fan of punk and metal all his life. Along with his country band, Hank III has been making metal with his band Assjack for years, and finally recorded (all the music and vocals by himself) and released “Assjack” in August of last year. He also plays the drums in the classic hardcore/thrash band Arson Anthem alongside Phil Anselmo of Down and Mike IX of Eyehategod, and was a member of the now disbanded Superjoint Ritual. Hank III’s show was a three-hour barrage of three styles of music; country, hellbilly and metal. And it was only fitting that “Hell’s House Band” should use only red stage lights throughout the night to create an aura of evil. More...

"A new vocalist has already been found and the band is hard at work rehearsing new material with him."
"In the meantime, Power Quest is looking for a new guitarist to join the line up. Dedication, commitment and drive are essential as is the ability and desire to tour and rehearse (one weekend per month in the UK) as required. Experience is obviously an advantage but is by no means essential. So if you are a guitarist familiar with Power Quest and influenced by melodic metal and hard rock then here's what you have to do to apply:" More...

Forbidden has issued the following studio update:
"What a week it's been. Fucking insane!"
"February 28th- Mark, his tech Jeff(Trigger), Tim Narducci and myself left for L.A. and the Bomb Shelter. We packed 3 drum sets(all Sonor) and one guitar for me. It was one of my trusty Les Paul's, if your wondering. She's is a Rock! Anyhow, we loaded in and got set up for the next day when we would get tones. We had dinner in Japan town at what was referred to as the Denny's of Sushi by Mike and Jarred, the engineers at the Shelter. Good and cheap! We then picked up a gaggle of groceries for the week at Rockin Roll Ralphs. Off to sleep after that."
"March 1st- I left early to go pick up the new Line6/Bogner 100 watt HD. It sounds killer, by the way. while that was happening everyone else starting pulling out the pieces of drums and hardware and matching whatever sounded best together. I told Mark before we left that he'd better be ready to adjust in case we needed to make Franken-set. After the last of his heads and cymbals were finally delivered we started getting tones. As it turned out, only a slight Fraken-set modification was needed. He switched out to one maple kick drum instead of two birch ones. It simply sounded amazing! He's had the same kick since 1990 when he joined Vio-lence. We were a bit concerned about the one kick vs two kick issue, but it sounded perfect. Sometimes the easy way works!" More...
