Vocalist Mikkel Sandager of the Danish metal band MERCENARY has issued the following update:
"I am sitting with the new [MERCENARY] disc ['Architect of Lies'] in my hand (limited edition, of course ) and I have to say that getting your new CD in your hand never changes. It is one of those things that feels like Christmas when you were a kid ... It simply makes me feel proud."
"So many things have happened over the last couple of weeks that blow my mind completely. Standing alongside Dave Mustaine hearing crazy MEGADETH stories is not the least of them."
"I gotta say that the bonus disc is pretty damn cool... and quite funny as well." More...

Scale The Summit has cancelled the remainder of their current tour. Here's a statement from guitarist Chris Letchford:
"Due to unsolved van problems this late in the tour we have been forced to drop off our current tour with God Is An Astronaut. We would like to apologize to all of the clubs, promoters, our booking agency, and of course all of our fans that planned on coming to see us play. Its a bummer, being our first tour! We'll be touring again for sure. I think we are going to take this time to get the next album finished for Prosthetic Records.
"It started on the way down from Kansas and got worse. We stopped in OK on our day off and the Machanic shop we went to had no time. We struggled to make it to SXSW and did, and played the hell out of it.
"We are super bummed about this and so sorry to everyone planning on coming out! We will tour again, but it's just not going to happen right now."
Across Tundras is currently recording a new album. The group has issued the following statement:
"Recording has begun for the new, as of yet untitled Across Tundras album. We were sitting on a ton of material and figured why not get going on it, even if we just had a new album come out.
"The album is going to be a collection of twelve or so new Across Tundras tunes and traditional songs done up in AT's unique styling. The tracks recorded thus far continue Across Tundras psychedelic journey into the future by way of the past. Richly textured songs bringing slide guitar, mandolin, and organ into AT's sound... in addition to the heavy drums, guitar, and bass. Its gonna be a good one.
"Any record labels interested in working with us putting out this recording? Please get in touch!"
As previously reported, Across Tundras recently cancelled their upcoming tour dates for a variety of reasons, including a broken down van, not having a bass player, and cash flow issues.
Following the 2007 self-published release of the debut album, "1000 Tears," Australian Goth/Metal band Temujin have signed with US independent label Renaissance Records for distribution of "1000 Tears" in the USA, Canada and Mexico. In support of the US retail release, discussions are under way for a proposed US tour later in 2008.
"This feels very much like a case of 'right place, right time' for us," says vocalist Kelly. "Renaissance are a true 'indie' label, a small but dynamic company. This is an opportunity for both the band and the label to grow together, and we're looking forward to it. Renaissance is showing faith in us, and we aim to reward that faith this year!"
Temujin are Kelly (vocals, keyboards) and Karl Lean (guitars, bass and drums). Formed in 2005, the band has focused on writing and recording throughout 2006, which culminated in the 2007 release of "1000 Tears." The band are determined to build on the foundations laid in 2007, and the deal with Renaissance kicks 2008 off with a major step forward.
Florida's Into The Moat is currently finishing up the writing process for their next full-length. Guitarist Kit Wray has issued the following update:
"The new album is coming along very well. The songs are just about finished up. And we are going to try to get some shows going before we hit the studio (nothing as of yet though). Sadly our recording date has been pushed back to June 14th, but all this extra time to add finishing touches will make for an amazing record. In other news we are in the process of re-mixing/mastering the EP. Thats right boys and girls, 'Means by Which the End is Justified' is being re-releaesed on Metal Blade Records. We have not come up with a release date yet but we plan to have it out before the full-length. As soon as it sounds brutal, it will be released. Hope this tides you all over until we grace you with our digital presence again."
Following their current tour with Blind Witness, Dance Club Massacre will finish up the writing process for their next Black Market Activities release, which will be available this fall. The group has begun pre-production for the effort and will post a new demo track online in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the band has lined up two tours for April and May, the details of which will be announced shortly. According to the band, "Let's just say that we're super stoked to be a part of both of these tours!"
Although they broke up nearly a year ago, I Killed The Prom Queen will tour their native Australia one final time. Vocals will be handled by Michael Crafter (who later did time in Bury Your Dead). Here are the latest I Killed The Prom Queen tour dates:

Dendura (USA), the Egyptian-inspired, female-fronted progressive band with belly dancers, will join co-headliners Unexpect (Canada) and Shadowside (Brazil) for the second-annual Flight of the Valkyries festival at Station 4 in St. Paul, MN, on Saturday June 28. Flight of the Valkyries is the only festival in the USA to feature a complete lineup of female-fronted metal bands.
“I am really pumped about the festival,” says Dendura drummer Justin Lee Dixon. “Exposing your sound and style to a whole new group of people is always exciting and, being that all the bands are female fronted, we are all happy to be a part of an event that is bringing together this ever-growing genre of music. But what I anticipate the most is sharing the stage with many talented musicians.”
Belly dancer Abida Blaze, who is known for her exotic, mysterious moves, will join Dendura onstage at the festival.
This year, the festival headliners bring a big dose of metal from Canada and Brazil. Unexpect recently toured with Epica, Echoes of Eternity and Trail of Tears. Shadowside is a rising star in the Brazilian metal scene.
Minnesota-based artists Something to Fear and Aria Sharp have also been announced and additional bands will be confirmed in the coming months.
Flight of the Valkyries is the only music festival of its kind in the USA that is devoted to metal bands with female lead vocalists. The festival showcases all metal sub-genres. The festival debuted in 2007 and showcased a variety of female-fronted metal bands including Doro, Vainglory, Earthen, The Ottoman Empire, Visideon, Spiritual Decay and Sirens of Titan.
Meanwhile, 2008 is already turning into a big year for Dendura. The band recently signed with KillZone Records, scored distribution with Nightmare Records and they’re discussing their next album with a Grammy-winning producer. In addition, they played high-profile concerts including a show with Edguy (Who did some 2007 dates in Germany with Aerosmith) and they have a track on the US ProgPower 2007 compilation given to everyone who attended the sold-out, national festival in Atlanta starring After Forever and Sonata Arctica.
IN FLAMES has issued the following update:
"Jesterhead is proud to be offering the opportunity for Colonists to meet In Flames at ALL upcoming shows in the US & Canada on Gigantour 2008!

Swedish metallers SONIC SYNDICATE will enter Black Lounge Studios in Avesta, Sweden tomorrow (Sunday, March 16) to begin recording their as-yet-untitled new album for a fall release via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented bassist Karin Axelsson: "We can't wait to get started. It's been an amazing year and everyone has been writing new music like crazy at home and on tour. A lot of people have been asking what the new material will sound like and all I have to say is, 'Time will tell.'"
Guitarist Colin Davis of the Californian brutal death metallers VILE has posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:
"Two new things for today. One is that we have uploaded a new song to our MySpace page. It's a demo version of a song that will appear on our forthcoming album. As I have stated in a previous blog, our new album will be out most musically diverse album to date. The new song 'Wolf at Your Door' is not our slowest song or our fastest song, but it is quite different from what we have done in the past and it stands as an example of the kind of diversity that will be included in this release."
"The second piece of news is that we are seeking new label representation. We have been very pleased to have worked with both Listenable Records and Unique Leader Records in the past. We appreciate all they have done for us. Unfortunately, things change, artists and labels don't see eye to eye on various issues and parting ways is sometimes inevitable." More...
Minnesota metallers, Seventh Calling, issue the following update on their Myspace page:
"Hey all you metalheads! I am very excited to bring you new information about the Calling!"
"We officially welcome the addition of Brian Huebner to the line-up of Seventh Calling! We are preparing for our first show with Brian at Station 4 on March 30. More details to come soon!"

Swedish metallers PAIN, the band fronted by HYPOCRISY's Peter Tägtgren, has recruited René Sebastian (photo) from ICONDEMN to play guitar on the second leg of PAIN's European tour as the support act for NIGHTWISH.
Commented PAIN: "We're looking forward to meet [René] for the first time on the plane to Hamburg on Sunday. You will meet him on stage on Monday. René has promised us total f*kin mayhem on stage and I'm sure that's what you'll get. We'll try to soften him up with a couple of beers for you."
"The last eight days have been really relaxing and recharging for us. Now we are eager to go out on this second leg of the tour and kick your asses again (and maybe someone will kick ours again). Twenty-five shows remain and we're really looking forward to play in France (again), Spain, Portugal and Great Britain etc. Last mentioned is untouched ground for us which makes it even more exciting. Kick ass!!!" More...

Omaha, NE-based metallers CELLADOR have posted this bulletin on their MySpace page:
Ok so we were gonna put this off for a bit and focus on record 2, but your persistance, emails, and messages paid off I guess so we'll go ahead and post the official audition rules now to settle ya'lls down:
CELLADOR is seeking a second guitarist to complete our live sound and further contribute personality to our music. We're seeking an energetic and motivated player that understands our musical direction(important!) and meets the following:
- Must be 18+ years old
- Able and willing to travel, this means able to take time off from work/school/familly when needed
- Has simple means of recording, such as a home studio or computer recording setup(as we'll have you record CELLADOR songs to be considered)
- Energetic and confident stage presence
- No major criminal record, as this makes international travel difficult
- Has upmost high degree of MATURITY (no dramaqueens, attention whores, ego maniacs, crybabies, aka in the game to play music and not be a rockstar), if you're prone to mood swings don't waste your time.
Relocation is not required so long as steady communication is maintained and you are able to make ends meet for the band. If you are interested in auditioning either message us here or send an email to contact[at]cellador.com. It will be a bit before we make any final decisions, unless you happen to be the perfect fit.
So have at it!"
South Carolina's THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD has dropped off "The Scum Of The Earth Tour" featuring headliners THROWDOWN alongside SOILWORK and WAR OF AGES. "We're sorry to inform you but we can no longer continue on the THROWDOWN/SOILWORK tour due to some bad luck on our behalf," the band said in a statement. "We'll see you guys next tour!"
THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD recently parted ways with Josh Kulick (drums) and Nate Johnson (vocals). Their temporary replacements are drummer Lech, formerly of AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK, and vocalist Lou Tanius, who has previously put time in with ON PATHS OF TORMENT and INVOCATION OF NEHEK.
Continuing to promote the band's recent release, "Malice", THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD has toured alongside ALL THAT REMAINS, HASTE THE DAY, THE RED CHORD, DESPISED ICON, ALL SHALL PERISH, SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY as well as headlined a U.S. run with AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK, BENEATH THE MASSACRE and ION DISSONANCE.
Drummer Derek Roddy (ex-HATE ETERNAL, NILE) has left TODAY IS THE DAY as a result of an apparent financial dispute with the group's mainman Steve Austin. Derek has reportedly been replaced on the band's current tour by Mike Rosswog (CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN, COMPLETE FAILURE).
TODAY IS THE DAY's eighth studio album, "Axis of Eden", was released last September on SuperNova Records, the label founded by Steve Austin. SuperNova Records is distributed exclusively by MRI/RED in the U.S., FAB in Canada, Cargo in Europe, and IODA for all digital distribution.
An audio clip of a new DISTURBED track, entitled "Inside The Fire", has been posted at the Rock on the Range MySpace page.
"Inside The Fire" is the first single from DISTURBED's upcoming album "Indestructible", due on June 3 via Reprise/Warner Bros. A video for the song was filmed with director Nathan Cox (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MARILYN MANSON, LINKIN PARK).
In a recent interview with RollingStone.com, DISTURBED frontman David Draiman stated about "Inside the Fire", "That's a real racy song. It's about me standing over the body of my girlfriend, who just killed herself, and the Devil is standing over me, whispering in my ear to kill myself."
DISTURBED has posted another song, "Perfect Insanity", on its web site. The track, a reworked version of a song the band wrote and recorded early on in its career, is also supposed to appear on "Indestructible", which will be a heavier, angrier, more aggressive record than either 2005's "Ten Thousand Fists" or 2002's "Believe", according to Draiman. He's also hoping for a more "aggressive" marketing campaign to get the word out about the set, saying, "We will continue to try and do things, and we're still going to do things this record cycle as well, to try and make it where there's a reason to buy it that's beyond what we're doing just musically."
Draiman told MTV.com that he's had rough couple of years, which will most likely be reflected in some of the new music. He said, "All kinds of horrible stuff went on. Bad breakups; I've had my garage burn down with all of my vehicles in it; I had a bad motorcycle accident that took off a whole bunch of skin from my forearm... just bad luck. It's been a fierce past couple of years."
Other songtitles set to appear on "Indestructible" include "The Night", "Run", "Deceiver", "Enough" and "Torn". There's also the title track, which Draiman calls "an anthem for soldiers" — specifically American soldiers fighting overseas. "It's meant to be something that would make them feel invincible, take away their fear, make them strong," Draiman told RollingStone.com. "And that's what this whole body of work on this record does. It's music to help you feel strong."
DISTURBED will be out with SLIPKNOT and other bands on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour later this year.
MTV.com's "Metal File" has posted a "blind item" involving "one of the country's best-known metal acts [which] looks to be parting ways with its major label and plans to return to its original label home in the next few months." Speculation is that the band in question is the Massachusetts-based metal group SHADOWS FALL, whose last studio album — and Atlantic Records debut — "Threads of Life", has sold 93,000 copies in the United States since its April 2007 release — a fraction of the 301,000 sales total achieved by its predecessor, 2004's "The War Within", which was released by Century Media.
In a June 2006 interview with MTV.com, SHADOWS FALL singer Brian Fair spoke about jumping ship from Century Media Records to Atlantic for their most recent studio effort.
"We were friends with [the folks at Century Media] before we signed with the label, and they definitely went above and beyond what we thought an indie label could possibly do," he said. "They did offer us a great deal [to stay with the company before we signed with Atlantic], but we wanted to ... see if we could take it to another level.
"It was a tough decision [to sign with Atlantic], but one we felt we really needed to make. We've been together 10 years, so we came with a contract and we knew exactly what we wanted. If people weren't into that initial thing, we knew we could cut them off right away. We weren't settling. We were brutally honest right at the beginning, and it stopped a lot of those dinners right away.
"These labels knew they weren't signing BRITNEY SPEARS," Fair continued. "They were just getting a bunch of Masshole metalheads. We were just psyched to get some free pizza and beer."
