Greek black metal act Naer Mataron has checked in with the following announcement about recording a new song for an upcoming split release with fellow Greek metallers Nergal:
"AD MAIOREM CHTHULU GLORIAM! We are in the pleasant position to announce to you that we have recorded a new old school song, dedicated to all the black souls that grew up listening to the traditional early '90s Greek sound of the infamous Storm Studio, Molon Lave Records, etc.
"We even used the same guitar amplifier that they were using back then at Storm Studio (Varathron, Rotting Christ, Thou Art Lord). The song was baptised 'The Whisperer in the Darkness' by the Goat with a Thousand Young itself, and it will be available on a split release with our firebrothers, NERGAL. Stay tuned for more... IA! IA!"
Reactivated Chicago act Broken Hope has checked in with the following recap after the first day in the studio recording an upcoming album:
"And so it begins... Broken Hope made it through day 1 of recording the new album! BH drummer Mike Miczek hammered out 7 songs today--that includes doing 3-4 takes of each song for exercise! BH has a sick-fucking-drummer, folks. You will hear soon enough...
"Here's Chuck Wepfer...the other 'Evil Chuck.' Doing his share of the scratch guitar work on drum day." More...
NightShade is excited to release the first music video from the band's upcoming album "An Endless Vision."
The video for "Betrayal" is now premiering at MetalInsider.net, or it can be viewed in the player below. The following press release was also issued about hte clip:
"While the deathcore group was filming the music video in Spain, a demonstration in Madrid turned ugly when thousands of protesters clashed with riot police. Protesting in response to the announcement of severe austerity measures, police reportedly made 22 arrests while over 32 were injured. As a result, NightShade decided to include shocking footage that shows police using violent force on protesters in the video for 'Betrayal.' This video is SERIOUSLY INTENSE!"
“This song ‘Betrayal’ is about how people need to open their eyes and stop being controlled by their governments. People shouldn’t be scared to take control of their own lives and make their own choices,” explains guitarist Bastien Deleule. “It’s ironic that a huge civil protest broke out in Spain while we were there shooting our music video, considering it is effectively what this song is about. Spain has over 50% unemployment and things are dire and people are angry, and we are angry too. We choose to express our anger with our music and we hope everyone loves it as much as we do! Other than being in the middle of some scary riots in Spain, we had a blast filming this video!” More...

"Formed in 2010, Extinction Protocol merges classic death metal structures with breakdowns and grooves of modern, guttural slam while infusing the darkness of dissonant black metal into the proverbial cataclysmic blender. A nihilistic death metal vortex, Extinction Protocol’s debut album, Aeonic Obliteration lyrically scrutinizes the greed and corruption of mankind thus concluding mankind’s eventual downfall due to genetic testing and world altering events.
"With nine devastating songs packed into a nearly thirty-three minute event horizon, Aeonic Obliteration features stellar production values courtesy of Ivan at Anthropocide Studios (Abominable Putridity) and full-color cosmic destruction ala JoeJesus of DeviantArt, and will see release on May 14th worldwide."

Sweden's classic rock heavyweights Spiritual Beggars are now premiering the video clip for "Wise As A Serpent," the opening track off the band's new album "Earth Blues."
Check out the video in the player below (or via Decibel Magazine here). The band's guitarist and main songwriter, Michael Amott, checked in to comment on the clip:
"We chose this particular song as the first video off 'Earth Blues' 'cos it's an explosive track and also the shortest song on the album! I filmed and directed the video myself and Anders Björler (At The Gates) did a great job on the edit. We're more than pleased with the end result, it's done in true DIY spirit...raw and authentic."
"Earth Blues" is the band's 8th studio release and marks Spiritual Beggars' 20th anniversary as a band. The album will be released on April 15th in Europe and April 16th in North America via InsideOut Music. The track listing is as follows:

Progressive rock/metal outfit Anciients has premiered a new song from forthcoming album, "Heart of Oak." The new track, "Faith and Oath" is streaming at Guitar World or through the player below. Regarding the song, guitarist Chris Dyck said:
“It began lyrically with some combo ideas about the Mayan's serpent-god beliefs and a strange dream I had about a snake-killing ritual. The serpent originally was representing the deceiver; as the song progressed and the vibe was realized it became our anthem for courage and strength. The chorus features Scott Ruddy from Weirding (killer doomy Vancouver band) on vocals with me. The proggy fast riff is what I like to call a 'ninja riff'... Looks hard, easy to play. Kenny's solo here is mental and I love how Hannay and Boon shift the timing on the last 2 repetitions of the solo riff to a swinging old 3/4 beat. The outro has Kenny laying down some sweet Dave Gilmour. We all dig Pink Floyd...Gilmour is the man. Cheers.”
The "Heart of Oak" album is slated for a North American release on April 16th, and will be available on CD, limited edition double gate-fold Lp, and digitally. More...
Today, Berlin-based classic/psychedelic hard rock trio Kadavar presents the first part of the track-by-track commentaries for the band's upcoming second studio album “Abra Kadavar." The album is to be released via Nuclear Blast on April 12th.
Let vocalist/guitarist Lupus Lindemann, bassist Mammut, and drummer Tiger provide you with background information on the album’s first four tracks:
01. - Come Back Life “On `Come Back Life´ we’ve tried to write similar melody lines for the vocals and guitar. After the song was done, I got the impression that someone had twiddled with out time machine and had sent us back to 1969!” (Tiger)
02. - Doomsday Machine “It’s both the second track on the album and the second song that was written for it, probably showcasing our trademark sound best. Between changes in tempo, single note riffs and guitar solos, the lyrical concept deals with destruction – inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s movie `Dr. Strangelove.'” (Lupus Lindemann)More...

Accordian player Juho Kauppinen from Finnish folk metal outfit Korpiklaani has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with the band:
"I have decided to set my goals elsewhere, as a result of which Korpiklaani will go on without me from now on. Korpiklaani was a prominent part of my life for long, but after these eight and a half years I played in the band I have come to realize that I currently want to experience and pursue something else.
"Accordion has never been my primary instrument. I also understood that performing in front of an audience is not exactly what I hugely enjoy. Strange as it sounds, what I most want from making music nowadays is playing guitar at home. That is what I find relaxing and free of stress. Some people love touring, but because I am a very private person I found living and traveling on the tour bus for four weeks in a row a little challenging.
"Nevertheless, I got to experience many things I am deeply grateful for and want to thank all Korpiklaani's listeners, fellow bands, crew members and our staff who enabled all of this. I am glad that the band has now found a truly professional accordionist to take the place of me to take care of the future tours and shows as planned. I wish everyone well. The journey has just begun."
Witheria has checked in with the following announcement about lineup changes and working on a new album:
"It's been over a year now since the last update, but here it is - What's going on in the Witheria camp!
"I - Line-up changes: J. Warhead decided to quit Witheria in early 2012, due to his lack of motivation. This happened in a mutual understanding and we wish him the best of luck in his ongoing endeavours. We did not start seeking a new guitar player at this point, but concentrated in the songwriting instead.
"During the songwriting process it became clear that Lappis 'the Predator' would switch from bass to handling the second guitar. This is very natural move for him and for the band, since he is an extremely talented guitar player, has been playing guitar in Nowen (and other bands) for ages, and his role as a songwriter for Witheria has lately been increasing. Shone elaborates: "Author & Punisher's newest sonic endeavor combines elements of both machines and more traditional apparati to stretch and blur the dynamic palette from doom to industrial, to heavy bass music, and back again."
Adds Seventh Rule Recordings label head Scott Flaster: "The new Author & Punisher? On first listen I was thrown into a grey world where the bleakness of early industrial music layered with a heavier contemporary dirge."

According to the press release: "A shockingly unknown band outside of the local scene until now, SURGEON propels an organic, flowing style of progressive metal with bold rock buildups, which also merges into the realms of epic, classic doom. Comprised of vocalist/bassist Sean Bolton, lead guitarist Lydia Giordano and drummer Ruston Grosse (ex-Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, ex-Woe, Master tour drummer), the band recorded their debut album Angry Guest at Electrical Audio in Chicago by Steve Albini, self-releasing it onto the masses in 2008. Their energy and attitude carries through both in the studio as well as on-stage, a feature that has helped the three seasoned musicians become known across the Philadelphia region, with SURGEON having shared the stage with Stinking Lizaveta, Howl, Black Cobra and others.
"Crafting each song as an individual piece of art, blending their infectious hooks with intricate melodies SURGEON’s alloy of metals shines more than ever on the band’s ambitious second opus, Chemical Reign. "The album was initially self-released by the band in a CD-R edition, containing 9 tracks of maddened sounds from the very depths of dark abyss.
