The video also features an interview with lead guitarist Benjamin Baret on what it’s like to be a “frog in oz” (with special commentary on our love of metal pies and Utes); Cygnus taking the guitar reins; engineer Troy McCosker working REALLY hard & much more.“

Thorny Bleeder has announced the signing of Montreal metal band Special Ops. In their third album, “Through The Heart of The Infidel,” produced by award winning producer & mixer Glen Robinson (Voivod, The Ramones, AC/DC, Gwar, Queensryche, Nashville Pussy) along with the engineering and production talents of Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope, Monarchy), Special Ops captures ten tracks that display a fusion of the members’ diverse cultures.
From Akbar’s intricate native Middle Eastern influence of guitar finger picking/strumming to Abe’s unique blend of North American street-style vocal delivery, backed by a well-armed rhythm section of Waldo Thornhill’s thumping bass and drummer Clarence McGillacutty’s pounding fury, Special Ops have unleashed a direct hit to follow up their award nominated independent release “Phase 2: Amidst The Madness.”

Swedish metallers Katatonia have checked in from the road with a new tour blog on Ultimate-guitar.com. An excerpt from the tour blog follows:
"The Preparations… As you probably know by know, we have two new session members in the band - Per 'Sodomizer' Eriksson on guitar which you might be familiar to some being the lead guitarist in Bloodbath and also the live guitar tech for Katatonia. Then we have a local bloke from Stockholm called Niklas 'Nille' Sandin on bass. What these guys both had in common when boarding the Katatonic ship was the big task of learning a minimum of 25 songs for us get this machinery rolling again. What made it a bit more complicated at this point was that we didn't have a place to rehearse any of this stuff. It might sound weird, but the truth is that we haven't had our own practice room since sometime back in the 90's and the few times we did rehearse in 2000's we mostly sneaked into other band's hangouts or went up to Avesta where the Norrman brothers could borrow a room, but with their departure from the band that room would also be gone. It took us about two months of actively hunting for a new place until we scored one in a suburb outside Stockholm that we contracted for 2010.
"With the calendar already saying February 1st, we now had one month to go until the tour kick off, so we booked the four following weekends to spend the time jamming it all out and also taking the opportunity to finally look over the big picture. You know, it's no secret we have a lot of keyboards and atmosphere on our albums, but we never had the chance to play them back live making our performance a bit dry, hollow and definitely missing some magic. Since the new album is our most electronic and atmospheric driven album to this date a solution was mandatory, so we decided that everything a keyboard player would normally do we'd invest in new gear and incorporate into backtracks and get the full production with us on the road to be able to take that further step up the ladder. Lady S of Russian female-fronted black metal act Nocra has checked in with the following update about the band's new material:
"Well, here a few words about Nocra's new sound. In the end of December I started work with new songs for EP. But I was totally disappointed by sound. Of course it was cold/raw and etc. but it was dead sound without soul. I understand that need to find where roots of my problem. But problem was in digital technology. Yes, today its very easy to create digital home studio without a lot of money. Computer, microphone and a lot of VST plugins. But ...this sound did not give a pleasure for ears.
"So I decided to take a break with recording before I will get necessary tools. Yes it required a lot of money but I am glad about sound quality. Recording is still not completed but now ready first song which was recorded only with professional HQ analog tools. Some what I used : tube amp and tube pedal for guitars, large diaphragm condenser microphones, analog mixer and tube ultragain for true warm sound. Yes this songs sounds quieter than digital but I am not wanted to use compressors for high loudness to save original amplitude of sound . And here NO ONE post FX, no equalizers - so nothing what changed original sound - only real honest sound as can be listen before recording . Hope you're enjoy it!"

But we're not too far removed from finishing all the work! Martin will do vocals in a few weeks at Excess Studios where we also recorded the drums last month. Everything else was recorded at Ed’s home studio, the aptly named Warbunker. Mixing and mastering will once again be in the capable hands of mister Dan Swanö, crushing heaviness guaranteed!"
UK extreme metal band Imperial Vengeance has issued the following update:
"The eager-eyed fellows amongst you will have course noticed we have a new video up on YouTube for your pleasure and distraction. Those who haven't cast your gaze in its' direction yet, be sure to give it 5 minutes of your time. A word of warning though to our friends who prefer their metal grim/frostbitten/ brutal etc. - the video shows IV in a much lighter mode than is of our usual persuasion- so view with a sense of humour. (You never know you might even just like it.)"
"A little news on the creative front, a total of ten songs have now been outlined for the 'The Gas Light Arias,' (A few titles to moisten your collective palette: 'The Black Heart of Empire,' 'The Black Idol,' 'Veiled Threats Over Cocktails,' 'The Voice of Thelema,' 'A Prelude to Four,' 'The Ghost Light' and 'Out Went the Candle-And We Were Left, Darkling'); and we are delighted to reveal that the darkly Victorian flavour akin to the 'Aristocratic Sex Magick' mood on ATGDOTS is set to the max. The orchestrations, arrangements and lyrical meanderings are flying along at the moment, and whilst we have temporarily retreated from the trenches of WW1 to the dark drawing-rooms of the imagination, the horror prevails...."
