EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt has issued the following update:
"I'd like to take a moment here and welcome back Tom Hunting to EXODUS' drum throne. It was always understood that when and if Tom was ever ready to resume his drumming duties for the band, his seat would be waiting. Paul [Bostaph] always knew this, and was the first to say it upon joining the band. Paul and Tom have always been good friends and we, as a band, cannot thank Paul enough for his services on 'Shovel Headed Kill Machine' and all the subsequent tours he did to support that album. We had a great time and kicked many asses along the way. Paul has given this reunion his whole-hearted endorsement with no mixed blessings and is happy to see Tom back in the fold. Now, some band out there may just become the luckiest bunch of suckers in the world, because one hell of a drum is on the market! We wish Paul all the best, and he will always be a member of the extended EXODUS family. More...
Chicago based brutal death metallers GORGASM have announced their signing to Shiven Records for the release of their upcoming new album. You can read more about that online here.
Dutch/Norwegian goth metal band IMPERIA (photo) has posted its new song "Raped by the Devil" to the group's MySpace page. The track comes off the band's sophomore album, "Queen of Light" (cover), due on March 23 via Massacre Records. The follow-up to 2004's "The Ancient Dance of Qetesh" contains 13 tracks and is "heavier and more varied" than its predecessor, according to a press release. "There are fast and powerful metal songs, slow ballads, heavy songs as well as a lot of serious guitar leads and oriental keyboards. It is a diverse album with crystal clear sound!" The album will be released in two versions: as a regular CD in a jewel-case and as a limited-edition digipak. The digipak version will feature a "making of 'Queen of Light'" video documentary as a bonus.

LiveDaily.com reports: Weeks of speculation and drama came to an end last night (3/12) when former Van Halen members Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar were the only representatives from the band to attend its ceremonial induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Of the five acts inducted this year--Van Halen, R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grand Master Flash and The Ronettes--VH had generated the most pre-induction buzz because of the band members' turbulent history, conflicting reports about who among them would attend, and whether or not any of them would perform during the event.
"I can't tell you how much I wish everyone was here tonight," Hagar said during his acceptance speech. Original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, whom Hagar replaced in the mid-'80s, was a no-show, as were brothers Alex Van Halen (drums) and Eddie Van Halen (guitar). Eddie, the group's chief musician, announced last week that he would enter a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons, which presumably prevented him from attending.
"First off, I'd like to say god bless you to Edward Van Halen," Anthony said during his remarks. "I wish you were here, buddy. He couldn't be here tonight. He's home gettin' some help. I love you, man."
"I think Eddie's gonna come out the other side a better person, and maybe we'll get our buddy back," Hagar added. "This is ... it's just hard for Mike and I to stand up here and do this, but you couldn't have kept me from here with a shotgun. I'm honored to be here."
Following their acceptance speech and a Van Halen-tribute performance by Velvet Revolver, Hagar and Anthony joined the house band--led by Paul Shaffer--for a rendition of the Hagar-era Van Halen hit "Why Can't This Be Love."
After leaving the stage, Hagar and Anthony faced the media in the pressroom. During a brief Q&A session, Hagar said he favors a Van Halen tour featuring himself, the Van Halen brothers, Anthony and Roth.
"If we all grew up--including me and Mike--[if] all of us can all grow up and all of us do it together, I'm down with that, anytime, anyplace, anywhere," he said. "But let's just hope that Eddie comes out the other side, you know, better than ever, and I think that'll make everything a lot easier."
Hagar added that, whether or not he tours with Van Halen again, he thinks the band should definitely mount a reunion tour with Roth.
If you missed the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony last night, you can catch it all on-demand exclusively on Spinner. You can watch the full show or pick a certain performance or speech in their archived coverage as well as backstage footage.

Polish death metallers DECAPITATED have commented on the recent cancellation of their European tour:
"We regret to inform that the Organic Hallucinosis European Tour ended as of March 7th due to extreme conditions that compromised the health and safety of all band and crew members. We are holding Rose Production responsible for making it impossible to continue, as they were not willing to repair the growing mechanical damages of the tour bus, nor were they able to provide a replacement vehicle. Also, the driver hired by Rose Production refused to travel further after the state of the bus had become clearly unsafe to drive. It was at that point that Decapitated and the other supporting bands had no other choice but to head home. We want to warn all the bands and labels - avoid Rose Productions! Not only did they fail to honor several important points in their contract with us, but even worse, they left us to rot in some of the poorest conditions we have ever seen on tour and would really like to prevent this from happening again to other people in the future. On the brighter side - to PHAZM, HATE, and our crew - we were glad to have you with us despite the unfortunate circumstances - the moments of laughter and complete mayhem will not be forgotten. To all the people who made it to the shows on the first half - thank you! Your support saved us once again. There were some really great turn outs at many of the venues and look forward to coming back soon. Any links to photos or footage would be greatly appreciated. Check back later for other Decapitated news and upcoming tour dates for summer and fall 2007."

California hardcore band Gather has called it quits. Here's a statement from singer Eva Genie:
"I'm very sad to announce that Gather is breaking up. Our guitarist Allan decided to leave the band for his own reasons. (He's still vegan, still straight edge, still down for the struggle.) Gather has been a sort of family, more than just some kids playing music together, and so it is impossible to simply replace a member; without any one of us, it's simply not Gather. We are going to play a last show or two with some of our best friends in Seven Generations, Socialized Crucifixion, and Risen, most likely during the second half of May. We want to have a Southern AND a Northern California date. Seven Gen. and Soc. Crux. are both important parts of the California radical vegan straight edge community. Risen is one of the few vegan straight edge bands holding it down in the Midwest. They've all been huge inspirations for us and really made us feel supported over the years.
I want to thank everyone who has supported us over the last three years or so. To anyone who has written to us, anyone who has told us that we've helped them go vegan or become active for animal/earth/humyn liberation, anyone who has asked us questions and debated with us, helped us or challenged us: thank you so much. I've learned a lot and have been inspired by every one of you. Also thanks to all the bands we've played with, everyone who helped us get a show, gave us a place to stay and food to eat. This punk/hardcore community would be nothing without you.
This is all pretty sudden for me; I imagined Gather would be playing shows and making music until I blew out my vocal chords (which I guess I almost have), and I'm sad that this isn't so. But either way, we all still believe in everything Gather stood for so we'll spread our message of Total Liberation through other means. Until this entire civilization is in ruins, the struggle continues."

When an event has been around for 13 years, it's usually time to shake things up. And while Ozzfest chose to do that by going free, the Vans Warped tour opted to piece together one of its most diverse rosters to date. While not a metal tour, it does feature a hand full of heavier metalcore and screamo bands, most notably Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, Funeral For A Friend, Haste The Day, Parkway Drive, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.
The tour, which will kick off June 28 at Chula Vista, California's Coors Amphitheater, is currently slated to play 45 shows through an August 25 date in Los Angeles with a lineup that includes Coheed and Cambria, Bad Religion, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Cute Is What We Aim For, Bayside and Canadian rapper K-os.
Among the other groups that will be on the road with Warped all summer are Amber Pacific, Circa Survive, Tiger Army, Escape the Fate, Hot Rod Circuit, Big D and the Kids Table, Paramore, Gallows, the Matches, the Fabulous Rudies, Meg and Dia, All Time Low, Bleed the Dream, the Unseen, Spill Canvas, Evaline, Bless the Fall, Boys Like Girls, My American Heart, Vincent Black Shadow, Throw the Fight and Pepper.
Tour founder Kevin Lyman said he had plenty of options to choose from when putting together the roster. "We received over 4,000 submissions, so in booking the tour this year I felt that a diverse lineup was in order," he said in a press release announcing the dates. "The tour has always been a place to explore and discover new music. This year's lineup has old school, emo, punk, screamo, hip-hop, more ska than you have seen in a long time and everything in between. If you're open-minded, this will be a great show."
Members of the online Warped community will get their annual shot at Internet presale tickets starting April 1, where they'll be offered a ticket and a copy of the Warped Tour double-disc compilation for $19.99.
Among the other acts scheduled to play select dates are: A Static Lullaby, the Actual, Agent Orange, Alesana, Alkaline Trio, the Almost, Anberlin, As Cities Burn, As I Lay Dying, the Automatic, Biffy Clyro, the Briefs, the Briggs, Buck O Nine, Cinematic Sunrise, the Confession, the Dear and Departed, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Envy on the Coast, the Fall of Troy, Family Force 5, Fishbone, Flogging Molly, the Fold, Funeral for a Friend, the Graduate, Haste the Day, Hawthorne Heights, Human Abstract, I Am Ghost, Madina Lake, Mayday Parade, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, New Year's Day, Norma Jean, Parkway Drive, Pennywise, Pistolita, Play Radio Play, POS, Poison the Well, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Set Your Goals, So They Say, the Starting Line, Straylight Run, Supernova, the Toasters, Underoath, the Used, Valencia, The Vandals and Yellowcard.
More bands and dates are expected to be added in coming months.
Vans Warped Tour 2007 dates, according to the tour's spokesperson, are as follows: More...
Severus have posted two new songs on their myspace page, "A Thin Line Between Lust and Rape" and "Swimmin' With The Fishes, See."
The reunited CYNIC, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, has abandoned plans to utilize the services of AGHORA's Santiago Dobles for its upcoming tour. According to the band, "due to the commitment required for the reunion, it was mutually agreed that another guitar player would be better suited." A new guitarist has already been found and will be announced in the next couple of weeks. The rest of the group's lineup will consist of Paul Masvidal (vocals, guitar), Sean Reinert (drums, keys), Tony Teegarden (vocals, keyboards) and Chris Kringel (bass).
Kringel, who replaces Sean Malone (who can't participate in the reunion because of teaching and work commitments) in CYNIC's reunion lineup, has been involved with the band since the pre-"Focus" days and toured with the band in Europe in support of the CD. He also played bass on the classic and much-sought-after PORTAL demos and toured the U.K. with Paul and Sean's AEON SPOKE project. Teegarden also previously toured with CYNIC in support of "Focus". With only three weeks till the release of STATIC-X’s album on April 3, the band wants to give their fans another taste of “Cannibal”. ‘Destroyer’ is the second track off of the new album with the raw heavy sound that Wayne Static wanted to bring this time. “I focused on stripping away the excess as much as possible to write short, simple, catchy songs,” Static says. This back-to-basics style for “Cannibal” has a lot to do with Wayne taking over most of the producer duties. Static teamed with producer/engineer John Travis (Kid Rock, Buckcherry) to help create the new sound. “I had a vision for this record, which is why I wanted to produce it myself,” Static says.
Check out the new track from STATIC-X below:
The Atomic Clock/drummer extraordinare, Gene Hoglan, has issued the following update concerning his instructional DVD:
Well, as I said a couple of days ago, I finally finished filming that damned thing. We started on Tuesday, and I ended up needing a bit of Wednesday, cuz we couldn't get to everything as planned in one day. And of course, since I basically had no script and I just winged everything, now that shooting's over I remember a million things that I forgot to touch upon. Figures, isn't that always the way? Ah well, hopefully I can get to alot of them in 'post'.
I must admit, I'm not a real watcher of instructional DVD's/tapes. I've seen my share, in fact my favorite is PULSE, by Akira Jimbo, but even back in the day, I never watched them religiously. They all sorta seemed the same. Killer drumming, boring guy. Deen Castronovo injected a bit of life into his, which was very cool, and that's what I tried to do with mine. I don't envision mine to be one of those 'talking head/explaining wing-wang-flam-a-doodles', cuz I'm not very good at that. What I do envision for this to become is more of an 'instructo-doc'. Alot of me playing, as a matter-of-fact, I play about 8-9 songs on here, including a bunch from my brand new band, MECHANISM. I even get off the 'beaten metal track' a bit and play a couple of tunes from some of the non-metal projects I've done, plus a couple of 'solos'. That was trippy. Any of you out there ever seen me do a solo? Unless you lived in LA and were at that Dark Angel show at Fender's in Long Beach circa 1989, or at that 'power-outage' show in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2003, chances are you haven't seen me do a solo. I think there's a reason for that. I always figured, "Isn't the whole SET pretty much like a drum solo?" Hee hee. So, I took a shot, and fired a couple of 'solos' on there. Which is basically just me playing a couple of wacked-out beats that I've been working on. Anyway, I'm hoping after editing that it turns out to be more of a cool little documentary, more akin to that "Making of 'ALIEN'", than a stodgy old 'instructional vid'. One thing I've been fortunate to say over the years is that I've always heard, "Hey Gene, I'm not even a drummer, yet you're the only drummer I pay attention to", so I've tried to make something that everyone can enjoy, not just drummers (and chubby-chasin' women, of course!).
I decided to concentrate on showcasing my new band, MECHANISM, mainly cuz this is my DVD, funded by me and no companies, and I'll do what I want. MECHANISM DEFINITELY shows off tons of what I can do on the tubs. I've been explaining this band as an example of what is probably the craziest drumming I've done in my career, so why not introduce ourselves to people in a rather unorthodox way? My playing on it I suppose is reminiscent of my 'SYMBOLIC' era, with a ton more crazy time-signatures and heap-loads of blast beats. I like it alot, and I'm proud to showcase us in such a fashion. I figure, we'll be editing it for a month or two, and I'm kinda shooting for a June release. I'll be selling it directly to you thru my website, whatever version of 'GeneHoglan.com' that ISN'T owned by some guy in China, and I'm sure I'll be putting up links all over my Myspace account when that gets ready. Hell, I'll even sell it offa Myspace as well, if I can.
Now, as for the 'Gene-shirts', thank you all for your impatience with this matter. To paraphrase the mighty Homer, "I don't wanna say it's slack, but that was the slackiest pile o' slack that ever slacked". I know. I said they'd be ready 2 months ago, and they weren't. Totally my fault. That's why I'm glad I've just hired some people to work here at Gene Hoglan Industries who will actually get stuff done, unlike Gene Hoglan, Slacker Extraordinaire. And I get to just play drums. Oh, and Playstation.
Those I've hired are now tackling 'Task #3' for 2007, which is booking my World Clinic Tour. We're getting started on that as we speak, and I intend to start with about 35-40 dates in the US, then the same in Europe, then move on down to South America, Australia, then over to Japan and South Korea. But that's all later in the year, plenty of time for that. See? Spoken like a true slacker.
I guess that's aboot it for now. I'll keep you all posted in the coming weeks as things progress.
Take it easy,
