Axis of Justice - Tom Morello (Audioslave) and Serj Tankian (System of a Down) - are proud to join in the celebration of the decisive victory that the farmworkers of Immokalee, Florida (the Coalition of Immokalee Workers - CIW) have just claimed. For more than four years, the CIW has been embroiled in a boycott of Taco Bell, the major purchaser of the organization's produce, demanding the end to sweatshops in the fields and the restoration of basic human rights in that workplace. In conjunction with unions, students, religious groups and other high-profile public figures, Axis of Justice participated in annual rallies and concerts at Taco Bell's SoCal headquarters to focus attention on this inhumane fast-food industry. Due to the boycott, Taco Bell has now been forced to take a role in helping to reform working conditions for Florida farmworkers.
"Today the Immokalee farmworkers struck a blow for dignity and human rights in the workplace and received the long overdue raise they have been fighting for," Morello commented. "This is a major victory for the workers and demonstrates that by standing up and standing together, we can overturn any injustice. By standing up and standing together, we can change the world."
Axis of Justice recently released "Axis of Justice: Concert Series Volume I" on Axis of Justice/Serjical Strike/SONY Records. The CD/DVD was recorded in Los Angeles and features Tankian and Morello joined by a number of special guests including Flea, Maynard James Keenan and Pete Yorn. The "Axis of Justice Radio Network" can be heard the second and fourth Friday of every month at 7:00PM PT on KPFK/Los Angeles, 90.7FM, 98.7FM in Santa Barbara, online at www.kpfk.org, and on XM Satellite Radio's punk channel, "Fungus."
AXIS OF JUSTICE (http://www.axisofjustice.org/) is a non-profit organization formed by Morello and Tankian. Its purpose is to bring together musicians, fans of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice together. AXIS OF JUSTICE aims to build a bridge between fans of music around the world and local political organizations to effectively organize around issues of peace, human rights, and economic justice.
IMMOLATION will be touring as direct support to Deicide on their tour in late May/June. Immolation will be touring in support of their latest album, Harnessing Ruin, which features the recording debut of drummer Steve Shalaty, and the band’s most crushing yet clear production to date, compliments of longtime producer Paul Orofino. When asked about the tour and the release of the group's latest masterpiece, Harnessing Ruin, the band could hardly hide their enthusiasm.
"We are really excited about the release of Harnessing Ruin. It is the darkest, heaviest and most emotionally charged album we have ever done!! We are also really looking forward to the upcoming tour with Deicide. Together, along with Skinless, Misery Index, and With Passion, we are all going to crush the US and Canada!!! For us this will be our most extensive run through Canada, so we are really interested in checking out the mid western areas that we have not been able to hit in the past! Prepare for one of the most devastating tours of the year!"

Darkane guitarist Christofer Malmström has posted this recording update on the band's official website:
The Darkane album ("Layers Of Lies") is being mixed at the moment. This upcoming weekend we will record the cello and double bass for the intro and some other parts of the album and then we´ll finish the mix, mastering and send it all to Nuclear Blast for printing. The release date is still set to June 27. Last Sunday I was watching the filming of the side story to the video, "Secondary Effects." I think it will be great!
I'm also very excited right now because at this moment Ryan (van Poederooyen) is laying down the drum tracks to Non-Human Level in Vancouver. I know it will kick ass, but it's a pain that I can't be there and hear it for myself! Ryan will hopefully put up a video clip from the drumming session on his own website.
Something completely else: In October 2002 Peter (Wildoer) and I participated in a very cool project called "Seven Deadly Pieces - A Concert for Chamber Orchestra and Thrash Metal Band." We did a live show in Helsingborg which was recorded and will be released on DVD later this year. The author of the piece, Lale Larson, who's also a very good friend of me and Peter has put up a trailer on his website for download. The most brutal metal parts of the concert is not included in the trailer, but you will see some of Peter and myself in a new environment. You have to be open-minded so don't expect to see metal if you download it, but very strange and cool and well-arranged music! Check it out! I love it!
According to MaidenFans.com, Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson has named "Tyranny Of Souls" the title of his long-awaited new solo album, scheduled to be released in Europe on May 23. A release date for the rest of the world has not yet been announced.

From a posting on the official Destruction website:
At the moment 'Our boys' are recording the new album "Inventor of evil" together with Peter Tätgtren, V.O. Pulver and their Live engineer Franky Winkelmann.
Three different Studio's in Germany, Switzerland and Sweden will be involved in the production-process!
The mix will be done by Mr. Tätgtren at the Abyss Studio´s in Sweden.
Release date for europe will be august 15th on the new label AFM records. In the rest of the world the new masterpiece will be released a little later this summer.
It looks like some surprise guest will be featured on the new album (like ex-guitarwizz Harry).
Nevertheless there will also be a new tune featuring many 'well-known' Metalsingers from all exiting styles, for a song that is dealing with more unity and tolerance in the 'szene'!
Rumours say that the famous 'butcher' will have an impressive return on the frontcover!
Please stay tuned for more news soon....

Freelance writer Bryan Reesman has submitted the following report to GRAMMY.com:
If the multi-platinum success of EVANESCENCE proved to narrow-minded rock jocks that female-fronted metal bands were viable, a fresh wave of melodic European headbangers should cement that affirmation, with their distinct blend of heavy guitars, symphonic underpinnings and soaring female vocals. Thanks to the breakthrough of "Fallen", like-minded groups that court gothic and classical influences are starting to find success on American shores.
"For quite a number of years we've personally loved that sound and tried to champion it," declares Marco Barbieri, president of the Century Family of labels that includes Century Media and Nuclear Blast. "We initially liked the European, gothic-inspired stuff that came out of some of the doom and death metal bands of the early '90s. When women started joining these bands, they made it that much more exciting and compelling."
Their sounds are quite distinct. NIGHTWISH blends gothic brooding with intense guitars and classical bombast. Their recent album, "Once", features orchestra, choir and a Native American flute player. LACUNA COIL play gothic-tinged heavy rock that invokes a more aggressive Evanescence (and they have been around much longer). LEAVES' EYES, lead by former THEATRE OF TRAGEDY singer Liv Kristine, serve up dreamy, medieval-style metal. All of these bands employ lush keyboards and often contrast their beautiful female singing with harsh male growls normally reserved for death metal. That latter concept may not sound commercial, but EVANESCENCE may have paved the way for its acceptance through the male rap-metal exchanges of "Bring Me To Life".
Odin Thompson, label manager for Napalm Records USA and Moribund Records, sees a basic appeal for these groups — they write great music." These bands bring that heavy edge but inject it with melody and arrangements that have been long lost from rock and roll ," he asserts. "They also offer light to the normally dark world of heavy metal, which makes them special amongst their peers." Thompson believes this subgenre has the potential for tremendous commercial success at a major label level, something Napalm has strongly believed in for years with acts like SINS OF THY BELOVED, TRISTANIA and SIRENIA.
"I'm sure the majors are probably working on their own [groups]," surmises Barbieri. "I feared that a lot of manufactured, female-fronted bands would be coming out after the first EVANESCENCE single. Thankfully we've been spared that from the corporations, and it's being done the right way. Those that have been doing it [awhile] are gaining presence and profile."
The most obvious example of such visibility is Italy's LACUNA COIL, whose two-year-old album "Comalies" scanned more than 200,000 units domestically, cracking the Billboard Top 200 for several weeks last year after extensive grassroots development on radio, video play on Fuse and MTV2, and tours with P.O.D. and Ozzfest.

According to a posting on The NIN Hotline, Ticketmaster has started announcements to sellers in the Louisiana area that NINE INCH NAILS are due to headline this year's Voodoo festival in New Orleans. The annual event, which tends to draw in a crowd of around 65,000 people, is scheduled to take place October 29-30.
NINE INCH NAILS's new album, "With Teeth", is slated for release in the U.S on May 3 (one day earlier internationally). The CD, which is said to be "more song-orientated" than 1999's "The Fragile", was recorded in part at Sound City Studio in Van Nuys, Ca., and features a guest appearance on drums by former NIRVANA drummer/current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl. Mixing duties were handled by Alan Moulder (THE CURE, SMASHING PUMPKINS). Check out clips of "The Hand That Feeds" (first single) and "The Line Begins to Blur" at BandBuilder.com.

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine posted the following message in the forum of the band's official web site: "I am sad to say that I have cut my right hand open and won't be able to tour for a few months. Just kidding! Actually, I was putting air in my tires yesterday and the air hose had a piece of sheet metal sticking out of it, and I really have slashed my right hand little finger. It bled all the way to the airport, while I was running interference for John Leeder on his chopper, and was taking Z to the airport. I have stealth radar on my Merc and when we caravan with friends I usually go out in front so we can book it at 80ish mph."
"Anyway, here is the dish . . . when I went to see my agent Keith Sarkisian at William Morris Agency on Thursday, I had three things to talk about: the last and upcoming tour, my acting career, and my kids. I will start in reverse. More...
