An eclectic slice of all things metal, Andy Winter's new album "Incomprehensible" (reviewed here) features an array of guest musicians from Europe and North America. The disc sees contributions from members of Madder Mortem, Starofash, Agalloch, Tristania, Novembers Doom, and more, making this a must-hear for fans of just about any style.
Excited to share "Incomprehensible" with the world, the mastermind behind the project conducted an interview with us, diving into how these tracks came together with musicians scattered across the globe working in tandem.
The verbose Winter discusses the tight-nit Norwegian musical community, how people will likely interpret the lyrics differently from one another, and his own history in the metal scene. More...
Amidst all the pig squeals and face shredding tech-death, there’s plenty of music to be found in the metal world that borrows from (or even relies on entirely!) a symphonic sound. These acts aren’t afraid to show off their melodic side, creating unique songs that blend heavy guitars and even screams with more traditional stringed instruments and keyboards.
If power metal isn’t your thing but you still want music with more melody than the standard death metal troupe, check out this week’s crop of bands as we unearth more of the metal underground.
This Ukraine-based group has existed off and on since the ‘90s, but it wasn’t until last week that it finally dropped a debut full-length album titled “Wind of Freedom” via Svarga Music. If the name didn’t tip you off, the lyrics and themes of the music are based heavily on pagan traditions and are dedicated to the history and folklore of the band’s homeland.
Although Paganland describes itself as a “pagan black metal” band, this is much more on the symphonic and folk side than the black metal side of things, and fans of Tyr will be right at home with much of the new disc. Get a sampling of what the band has to offer through the title track available below, or hear more over at Facebook.
Italian metal act Mesmerize, featuring ex-Time Machine vocalist Folco Orlandini, are streaming the new track "126.96.36.199." The song appears on the band's new LP "Paintropy," which is scheduled for release on April 29, 2013 via Punishment 18 Records.
"Paintropy" will mark the band's first full length release in eight years and will feature the following track list:
1. It Happened Tomorrow
3. A Desperate Way Out
4. Monkey In Sunday Best
5. Midnight Oil / Within Without
6. One Door Away
8. Shadows at the Edge of Perception

Polish progressive grind act Antigama has just completed the construction of sixth full-length album, "Meteor."
Consisting of eleven explosive new tracks, "Meteor" was recorded earlier this year at Progresja Studio in Warsaw with producer Pawel "Janos" Grabowski (Masachist, Lost Soul) and the final output mastered by Scott Hull at his Visceral Sound Studios (Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer). The album also features a guest appearance by Michal Lapaj from Polish progressive rock band Riverside.
Antigama's head technician Sebastian Rokicki comments on what to expect from the album: "This was very hard and challenging recording session but I am sure the result will surprise many of our fans. Meteor is solid piece of intense brutal music not for weak at heart. This is no doubt the fastest and most experimental Antigama's album."
"Meteor" will see release this coming May or June via Selfmadegod Records, the assassins also responsible for the band’s recently-released "Stop The Chaos" EP in addition to a plethora of other Antigama releases, including the seminal "Discomfort" and "Zeroland" albums. An official studio report, album art, and most importantly, new music from "Meteor" will be available shortly.

It was just perfect for a Purson video, so we invited some friends along, hung out, and played. Chris Martin shot and edited the video and my brother, William, treated the footage and added the trippy effects". More...

In 2005, Italy's Crimson Dawn was conceived by Drakkar guitarist/composer Dario Beretta and Crown of Autumn multi-musician Emanuele Rastelli. The band released one demo in 2006 entitled "A Dawn In Crimson."
