MTV.com reports that CKY drummer Jess Margera has revealed he's been keeping busy working on various side projects and lending his talents to other bands' work. He recorded all the drum tracks on Viking Skull's upcoming Chapter II LP and has formed a band called Partners in Crime with CKY guitarist Chad Ginsburg and Guy Heller of Moistboyz.
But the band he's most excited about — after CKY, that is — hasn't even been assigned a name yet. It features Fireball Ministry's Jim Rota and Clutch main man Neil Fallon.
"I was on a flight back from Germany, and I was looking at my iPod, and I looked at my top 10 list or whatever, and it was just like Clutch, Puny Human, Fireball Ministry, Led Zeppelin," he said. "So I called everybody but Led Zeppelin, for obvious reasons, because I was recording in my home studio. I just invited them all up to my house, and we worked on two or three songs. That turned into five songs, then eight, 10, and now we have 12 songs."
Margera said the Fallon-fronted act sounds like equal parts CKY, Clutch and Fireball Ministry, and had its first practice last month, following his pro-skateboarder brother Bam Margera's wedding to Melissa Rothstein. While the group does intend to release an album, he's not sure when that will be, given that the bands' hectic schedules will make tracking the LP difficult.
"It's like my supergroup, man," he enthused. "It's just cool as hell, and I'm psyched about it."
HELIX mainman Brian Vollmer has issued the following update:
"After more than four years with Helix, Jeff Fountain (bass) has decided to leave the band. Jeff is also the bass player for London-based BOBNOXIOUS (band led by RAZOR singer Bob Reid), whose new CD Rockaholics is fast taking off. The band is doing so well, in fact, that it became impossible for Jeff to commit to both projects, and he decided to step aside. All of us in Helix wish Jeff the best of luck-we’ll miss him. Ironically Jeff will be just finishing up touring in western Canada with Bobnoxious when we’ll be coming out at the end of May. Hope everyone comes out to support both bands.
Replacing Jeff is Paul Fonseca. Paul is a welcome addition to the band. Paul is a versatile and skilled player who has played with both Rick (VanDyk - guitar) and Ned for 8 years. A life long musician, Paul has played in some of the coolest Toronto area bands while paying his dues. He has also worked with several recording artists, ie. HONEYMOON SUITE. A talented vocalist as well as a powerful stage performer, Paul currently enjoys performing in a number of diverse groups including SANDMAN. Welcome aboard Paul!"
AUTUMN have finished the work on "My New Time" and are happy to deliver their best album to date.
“We've laid down 11 tracks at Graveland Studio with producer Arno Krabman behind the dials. These are some of the most diverse, groovy and powerful Autumn songs to date. Needless to say, we're thrilled with the results! The new line-up has outdone itself and has seen the Autumn collective improve in all possible areas. This, combined with Arno's attention to detail and Jochem's mixing skills should result in an album that'll raise some eyebrows!”

Four of the five original members of influential San Francisco '80s thrash band Testament are back in the practice room working on songs for a new album. Singer Chuck Billy, bassist Greg Christian, and guitarists Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson are being joined by ex-Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth drummer Nick Barker, and so far they've got six new songs. Tracking is scheduled to begin in June. "Working hard with Nick on some new ideas and some cool old-school styles [that are] coming together really killer," Peterson said in a statement. "It's been a long time coming," Billy added. "This new album is like a good wine: You throw in the grapes and crush."
As part of their current world tour, Testament will play five U.S. shows, starting March 26 in Dallas and ending March 31 in Santa Ana, California.
Montreal's Despised Icon will release their second, yet-untitled album on May 22. The disc was produced by ex-guitarist Yannick St-Amand (Beneath the Massacre, Ion Dissonance) and mixed by Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Megadeth). Along with director Jean-Philippe Bernier (A Perfect Murder), the band recently shot a video for "In the Arms of Perdition" that will debut in the spring. "We spent the entire weekend shooting [in] minus-40-degree weather on a secluded icy mountain near Quebec City," singer Alex Erian said in a post on the band's Web site.
Multinational Metalheads Powerwolf has finished their second album “Lupus Dei,” mixed in Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden.
“The songwriting was a truly emotional process. I have never been that dedicated to any piece of music in all my life so far“, Attila Dorn reflects. In the end the band had written ten brand new tunes carrying on where “Return in Bloodred” left off. Tracks such as “We Take It From The Living“ and “Prayer In The Dark“ feature all the trademarks of Powerwolf songs, yet adding more melodic density, pounding heaviness and epic moments than ever before.
Paying tribute to the spiritual feeling of the album, Powerwolf recorded parts of “Lupes Dei” in a chapel built in the 12th century. “It was haunting. Recording in a church can not be compared to any studio situation. You can breathe history in such a place and it was definitely the most inspirational surrounding we could have chosen for the creation of this album”, Matthew Greywolf says. "On the title track as well as on ‘In Blood We Trust’ we even worked with a 30-piece classical choir, which was amazing."
Lyrically, dealing with the word of the Bible and the dogmas of metal, “Lupus Dei” features everything Powerwolf has come to represent; haunting horror atmospheres, spiritual organ madness, Attila’s outstanding and unique vocal performance—and most of all TEN EXTREMELY CATCHY METAL ANTHEMS SOON TO BE HOWLED BY MANY WOLF-ADDICTED SOULS.
Here is the “Lupes Dei” track listing:
1. Lupus Demonae (Intro)
2. We Take it from the Living
3. Prayer in the Dark
4. Saturday Satan
5. In Blood We Trust
6. Behind the Leathermask
7. Vampires Don’t Die
8. When the Moon Shines Red
9. Mother Mary is a Bird of Prey
10. Tiger of Sabrod
11. Lupus Dei
