Otep Shamaya has posted the folllowing statement online regarding her band's forthcoming studio album, titled "Atavist."
"This album is a return to the umbra, to the darkest parts of me. I am fortifying this fortress of sound with Cyclopean masonry. The language on my lips is forged from forbidden tongues 12 lifetimes old. I am the heart of the gorgon, the broken mind of the lunatic, the courage of the martyr, the voice of the insurrectionist, the agog of the alchemist, I am the defiance in the aching souls waiting for the flame, I am the mighty Minotaur raging against the labyrinths of isolation and sadness. There is a purposeful primal spirit to this record, a coded provocation to remember out connection to the infinite, to the mysterious, to each other."
Iowa based nine piece Slipknot has revealed that Donnie Steele, the band's original guitar player, will be joining the band as bass player on their forthcoming tour dates. Speaking on their decision to recruit Steele for the job, the band stated:
"Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer."

Commenting on writing the new album, Nowell stated "I figure the world is full of enough death metal bands singing about decapitating women and mutilating their genitals. There are enough metal bands complaining about how their dad’s didn’t hug them enough and stuff like that, so I wanted to try to do something at least a little bit different."
Nick went on to speak about trying to be socially conscious with The Famine's music, parting ways with former vocalist Kris McCaddon, and the problems the band has faced by being labeled as "too Christian" by some and "not Christian enough" by others. More...

"The Deicide tour has been going more than great. We knew it would be a good tour for us, but so far, it has exceeded all our expectations. The response from the fans has been amazing. All the bands on this tour are super-friendly and we are having fun every night with all of them. I even drank blood with Helmuth from Belphegor... yeah, it's that crazy!"
Once the band's tour with Deicide has finished, the group will be hitting the road once again to support Brazilian thrash metal legends Sepultura.
Xtreem Music has issued the following announcement about inking a record deal with Rottrevore:
"Xtreem Music is incredibly proud to announce the signing of recently reformed legendary U.S. masters of the heaviest death metal Rottrevore!
"Over the past 16 years a lot has happened with Chris Weber (vocals/ guitarist), Chris Free (bass) and Christian Easley (drums). The band was on a hiatus for almost all of the years from Dec 1995 - Dec 2010. The unreleased tracks, which there are 10 of them, were actually preserved by Chris Weber and were only recently tapped into to reconstruct in Dec 2010. Four of those songs are now going to be recorded and they have the old feel from back when with a new modern feel for today. They have the old school chainsaw guitar rhythms, which they are known for, but also a more technical and of course heavy approach to ensure that they keep the heart of Rottrevore alive.
"Over the years Chris Weber had pursued instrumental solo projects, Chris Free had played bass for a few bands, very technical ones to say the least and Christian Easley had started his own band, Pulsepherion in 1999 which lasted until 2005.
"Rottrevore have now reformed and have been pushing themselves to the limit to still bring you the some of the heaviest music ever made. Through musical progression and the likeness to chainsaw guitars, distorted bass, guttural vocals and thunderous drums, they are now working on releasing their first 4 song mini CD release since 1993. The recording for them will be handled by no other than Erik Rutan at his own of Mana Recording studios in St. Petersburg, Florida. The recording dates are scheduled for late March 2011 and the release should be in late summer, early fall. More...
Seattle, Washington based metal outfit Trap Them has posted the band's new album, "Darker Handcraft" online for streaming. You can check it out by heading to NPR.org.
The album is out now on vinyl, but won't be released on CD and digital formats until March 15th in North America. Due to popular demand, the vinyl is currently being repressed on black, a transparent green and on a red and yellow mixed wax; the green and red/yellow mix are limited to 100 copies each.
The band recorded "Darker Handcraft" at Godcity Studio with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Disfear, Black Breath). The album artwork and layout was done by Justin Bartlett (Sunn 0))), The Funeral Pyre).
Within the Ruins has announced that the band will be debuting an EP titled "Omen" just months after the release of the full length "Invade." The new EP "Omen" will feature two new tracks and two cover songs - including Metallica’s "Fight Fire With Fire" and Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son." The EP will be released digitally and on 7" vinyl in April, 2011 and is being recorded at Dreadcore Studios in Michigan with Joshua Wickman.
Guitarist Joe Cocchi commented on the cover tracks: "Of course, Metallica was up there on the list, and after spending some time going through their discography we thought ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ would suit us best. It's a fun song, fast as fuck, and a bit challenging. It's also not as popular as a lot of their other songs. We wanted to choose a Metallica song that no one's really done before.
"The Kansas song was a whole different story as you can imagine. I don't think it's something that anyone would expect us to do, which is why we chose it. We spent a good amount of time arranging the song and attempting to add some new elements to it without completely 'butchering' it. It's definitely going to be a challenge for us, but that's the point after all. We're really excited about this project."
A video update of the band working on the new EP is also available at this location.

We, The Undersigned has posted a new blog online detailing the band's recent tour dates. An excerpt from the blow follows:
"As I mentioned in the previous entry, our friend from ninjaspy Tim has graciously let us stay with him in Vancouver since we have a few days off. As it happens Tim and his roomate have quite an extensive VHS collection and the WTU Clan are quickly becoming old-school junkies. Sooooo we spent the next 3 days watching Arnold Sweartznegger (?) and Sly Stalone movies, some of which include Commando, Judge Dredd, Total Recall, Die Hard 3, True Lies, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Ace Venture 2, 12 Monkeys and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's amazing watching the movies from the 80's and 90's depict what the 'future' was supposed to be like. My only regret was that we didn't get to watch 'The 6th Day,' another Arnold classic.
"We all managed to get out and about and did a bit of shopping. I hit up a hippie store and bought some organic soap and spent way to much $ in a used record store. The coolest musical acquisition would have to be the Live Matthew Good double CD that is amazing! Tonight (Feb 23rd) we rock a bar in downtown Vancouver called Funky Winkerbeans. Best venue name ever? More...

Passion, devotion and a strong vision are what we were looking for in a label and that's precisely what we found in Les Acteurs de L'ombre Productions.
"The label believes in the Cult since the very beginning of the band, even before Golgotha was recorded; it's the sign Les Acteurs de L'ombre understand the essence of Cult of Erinyes more than anybody else, us excepted. The album will be released at the end of April. You'll find the cover (created by David Delander 'Strangehalos') and the track list below."

Finnish symphonic metal outfit Nightwish has announced that the band has decided to postpone recording due to lead singer Anette Olzon's recent injury, in which she broke some of her ribs. A message from Olzon reads as follows:
"Today me, Ewo (Pohjola, Nightwish Manager) and Tuomas (Holopainen, Nightwish leader/keyboardist) decided that its better if I rest the whole month and get in shape so I can do the vocals super good, and have booked my vocal recordings from April 4th instead, in another studio in Finland. This is really good cause no one will be happy if the album doesn't sound perfect. And we don't have any hurry since the album has plenty of time to get mastered and ready still.
"So I´ll rest and rest and hopefully soon be able to move a bit more. I have now been lying down for a week and even if I cant do anything it is of course quite boring.
"Yesterday something happened that might have been good. I lied down and just turned to the right and it 'popped' really loud from the ribs and I could feel the bones move. After that I feel I can breathe a bit easier so maybe the bones were 'put in their places' and can start to heal now. I really do hope so!"
