Swedish folk metallers King of Asgard have officially signed to Metal Blade Records. King of Asgard was formed in 2008 by Karl Beckman after dissolving his latest musical projects. The band recorded their 7-track demo "Prince Of Märing" at Lotang Studio that finally led to the deal with Metal Blade Records. In late 2009 Jonas Albrektsson joined the ranks on bass to strengthen the line-up.
King of Asgard are busy recording their as-yet-untitled debut album at Sonic Train Studio with Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND) at the helm. The band commented on the record deal with Metal Blade: ”King of Asgard are very proud being signed under the banners of Metal Blade Records. Releasing records under such influential label will be an honour and we feel our future collaboration will be nothing but grandiose. We are very keen on seeing what this can bring us. So teaming up with Brian, Andreas and the rest of the Blade-staff is something we’re easily throwing ourselves into and we’re eagerly devoted on getting our debut out and heads rolling. Lets see if we can create a winter of three!"

A new symphonic live version of the album performed by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra was also recently released.

Serj recently shared his thoughts with Metalunderground about the direction of his solo career and his upcoming tour plans. More...
Finnish metallers Tursisas have begun tracking for their third full-length album, which is tentatively set for an early fall release. The group are currently holed up at Sound Supreme Studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland – the same studio where they recorded their previous album "The Varangian Way." Turisas have just posted the first part of their ongoing video series documenting the entire recording process, which can be viewed below.
Vocalist, songwriter, and producer Mathias Nygård comments: “After a nine-month break from touring to fully focus on songwriting, we've finally moved forward and have now started recording. It's going to be a long project and is bound to keep us all busy through the summer, but believe me; it will be worth the wait. With three years between albums, there's been enough time to find a fresh angle and new ideas not to repeat ourselves or albums we've done in the past. The songs rock big time, but the epic elements aren't going anywhere – it's going to sound larger than ever before. The leap forward is going to be just as big as between Battle Metal and The Varangian Way. Stay tuned to our YouTube page for new video reports from the studio and we can’t wait to unleash this beast in a few months.” More...

Shadows Fall recently posted a music video for their cover version of the Ozzy Osbourne track "Bark at the Moon." The band has now posted three clips online detailing the creation of the music video, which can be viewed below.
Bassist Hvall of Norway's Vreid has checked in with the following update about the band's activity:
"This weekend we were gathered in the good old 'Fjøsen' ( our rehearsal place from the Ulcus & Windir days). It was a great atmosphere to rehearse there again, and especially with all the stuff we are working with at the moment, everything from new line up, new album and the upcoming special shows.
"New material: First of all we are working on the new material. Over the last 10 months I have been working on riffs & ideas for a new album. This has now ended up in 10 working tracks. Over the last few months Sture & Steingrim have been working together with me on the guitar & drum arrangements. This weekend was the first time we started playing the stuff together, and I have to admit that I am 'over the moon' about how the songs are turning out. It is too early to describe what direction the album is taking, but for me the main thing is that the material sounds very fresh and that it fills us all with such enthusiasm. We now have a few working sessions coming up before we start recording the drums. Sture & Strom will work closely together to develop the guitar arrangements, and I am confident that their work collaboration will bring our music to new heights. More...
London-based Neverborne has checked in with the following update:
"Neverborne have quiet of late on the gig front and for good reason to. We are tirelessly working on our new album which is going extremely well. The band is focused and creativity is at a high. We are all really excited about the new material and are working hard to make sure is will be nothing short of epic!
"Currently seven tracks are complete, and we are booked in to hit the legendary Thin Ice Studios again mid year to work with Karl Groom once again. Will keep you updated but in the meantime we hope to see you rocking the fuck out and supporting the metal scene in your area!!"
Soilwork frontman, Björn "Speed" Strid, has checked in with his fourth studio update.
"We are currently recording vox and, as usual, it’s long days with small breaks. We’re talking 12 hours of singing, every day. It’s funny when you analyze it, screaming for 12 hours a day (except when our insane booking agent John Finberg calls and wants to make fun of my mustache). It’s crazy... Anyways, I feel it’s sounding absolutely fantastic this time around, even though you tend to lose your temper every now and then. No bloody knuckles this time though, just walls falling over in the vocal booth and a lot of cursing in Swedish.
"It’s only me, Peter [Wichers] and Sylvain [Coudret] left in the house. Flink and Sven [Karlsson] left a week ago and it’s feeling kind of empty in this insanely big house. There’s a good spirit though. It’s starting to get nice and warm outside and Peter’s wife and little son Leo are spreading a lot of joy in the house, too. Leo is sleeping on the bed while I’m screaming my eyes out. Unbelievable.
"Me and Peter have discussed the album a lot and we really feel that it’s a schizophrenic masterpiece. There’s a lot of surprises and trippy parts and sometimes so full-on that it leaves you absolutely breathless. It is the most intense Soilwork album so far, without a doubt. My fave songs right now are 'The Thrill,' 'The Akuma Afterglow,' 'Epitome' and 'Let This River Flow.'
"It’s been very draining for me going through all the lyrics. Very heavy stuff and it’s like the last two years are flashing by.
"We have four more days to go and then we’re off to Sweden to mix this monster. Jens Bogren is waiting in the city of Örebro and he is just excited as us to get this album done. We’ll talk to you soon."
Soilwork's new studio album, "The Panic Broadcast," will be released on June 25th through Nuclear Blast Records.

"It's been some time since we've given our listeners, followers, the Frost Legion an update. Four months have past since we've released our EP and about 2 months since we've last played a show, which leads you to ask, what we've been doing for the past while.
"Well first off, we've been writing new material; as some of you know, we are preparing songs for our full length album. We have 4 new tunes in the works, 2 of which you would have heard live, if you were in attendance at the last show we played. We may get around to demoing a couple of the new tracks to put up on myspace.... When we come back you can expect everything to be taken to the next level with us! More...

Arizona death thrashers Hemoptysis have posted the music video for the song "Shadow of Death" online. The video features Chris Cannella of Autumn's End. Filmed and produced by the Phoenix-based Big Shot Studios, the shoot took place in an abandoned school on the Gila River Indian Reservation, Southeast of Phoenix. Co-production credits go to Desert Core Management and Hemoptysis.
Written by frontman Masaki Murashita, the song deals with senseless wars in which citizens are forced to fight or die for. The video portrays these citizens as prisoners of war, subjected to the bombardment of constant media coverage. Originally recorded and released on the Hemoptysis debut EP, "Who Needs A Shepherd?," Shadow of Death was re-recorded/produced by Ryan Greene (Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick), mastered by George Marino (Sterling Sound).
