Swiss modern metal maniacs SYBREED are gearing up to hit the studio for their successor to "Antares," which should be released later this year on LISTENABLE RECORDS. Vocals and drums will be recorded at the SDF studios in Lausanne, guitars and bass will be tracked at the Drone studio in Geneve, recordings should be finished by the end of March/April. The album will be mixed in May by no other than Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory Obsolete/Digimortal, Paradise lost,…). Recordings will be in hands once again. By mastermind Drop and David Blanc.
This is what the band had to say about the musical direction of the record:
“The new record will have more groove, be a lot heavier, technical and definitely darker than Antares. From a musical point of view it’s a mixture of New Wave, Industrial rock and Extreme metal, a mixture we baptized ourselves as 'Death Wave,' which stands for being very aggressive and melodic at the same time, we have taken our influences from our first two albums and added a lot more new elements, to spice everything up to the next level. In any case, you can expect nothing less but a very professional and personal album, that will derail many conceptions of what people call metal, or even modern metal.”

Australian Christian death metal band Mortification has issued the following update about completing work on their new album:
"Firstly, thank you to all our supporters who sent mails and were praying for our State of Victoria here in Australia during the recent wave of bushfires. The fires are now under control. We are safe here in the city but the fires came close. Currently 5000 Victorians who have either lost their homes or were evacuated are in camps around the state. So far the death toll looks as high as 300 and thousands have lost their homes. It is the worst disaster in this State's history. So far within Australia over 100 Million Dollars has been raised from donations to help those directly affected by the fires that raged through the hottest week in Victorian State History. Please keep praying for those who have lost everything including entire families dead.
"Onto brighter news… This month we finalise the Mortification Recording of the new Studio Album "the evil addiction destroying machine". The Album is sounding Intense and Ripping! Well pleased with three years of hard work now coming to completion with "the evil addiction destroying machine.' More...
Pantheon I’s vocalist/guitarist Andrè Kvebek (ex-1349) is set to join up with vocalist Abominor (Norkrim), bass player Shezmou (The All Seeing I) and drummer Sathan (Twisted Autumn Darkness) to form a new project under the name of SVARTELDER..
Kvebek, who will use the stage name Tjalve for the new project, is currently finishing work on the next PANTHEON I album, and will begin writing material for SVARTELDER as soon as that is finished. Commented the guitarist:
“SVARTELDER was originally started in 2005 by Abominor, but got shelved for a few years due to other commitments. He was talking to me about starting it up again recently and asked if I was interested, and I liked the idea of being given free rein to write whatever I wanted musically, while he concentrated on the lyrics. At the moment, the plan is to record eight songs in total, which will include a handful that I had already written, and that were waiting for the right project to come along. I think it’s going to be very interesting for all those involved, and we’re all very keen to start rehearsing as soon as possible. SVARTELDER, which in the ancient Norsk Language means “Blackfires”, was chosen as a name to symbolise the flame of uncompromising old-style black metal, that the band aim to keep alive with their music."
Maryland metallers Odin's Court have issued the following update about finishing the writing for their new album:
"Odin's Court has completed writing the music for the next CD, and the lyrics are in progress. Matt, John, and Craig have started practicing to get the rhythm section down, using Matt's new D2C Studios."

We have chosen not to get into it but it may or may not include the following reasons:
"- Jeff has finally become Rip Van Winkle and will be asleep for the next 50 years.
"- Ray has finally eaten so much that he can not fit out of the door to his house and is unable to leave home. More...
Florida based death metal legends Obituary has completed the mixing for their new studio album. Lead vocalist John Tardy has checked in with the following message:
"We have been so busy finishing up this new Obituary album and getting ready to leave for Europe in a few days that I just have not had time to do it. The good news is, last night, we finished up the mixing and we are done. It came out really sick and I cannot wait for you guys to hear it...it is heavy!!!!!!!
"Like I said, we now focus on heading to Europe for our Full Of Hate tour that runs pretty much the month of March! It should be a good time and I hope you all can come out and see us."
Megadeth are currently touring Europe along with Judas Priest and Testament. Drummer Shawn Drover has checked in with the following update:
"So I got my wish upon arriving in Stockholm yesterday, and that was to see some SNOW!!!!!! I took a good walk with James yesterday exploring the city a little bit and did witness a few good strong snow flurries, so you know that put a smile on my face The 1 thing that did suck yesterday, was that I did not see my Friend Niklas Stalvind from a great Swedish band called WOLF. He was nice enough to drop off their new c.d. for me with our crew. (Sorry Nik - we will catch up next time)
"Tonight we perform in Gothenburg, which is another great city, and since I have not been here since September 2004 (right before I joined Megadeth) I am certainly looking forward to finally performing here. As well, I am hearing that a few local friends may be stopping by, so it promises to be a fun evening."
"Omnipotent Unknown" will be the title for EINHERJER RISING's upcoming full-length album. "Omnipotent Unknown" will be a musical assault of experimental black metal with bits from other influences like death and folk metal. Eight versatile tracks will be featured on the record with the possibility of adding a cover song as a nineth track. Lyrically, the album focuses on barbaric mythological themes and symbolism.
"Omnipotent Unknown" will be the first release under the band's new name EINHERJER RISING after being known as Phex from 2001 to 2007. It will also be very obvious that the musical style of the album is totally different from that of the band's previous full-length "Transfixion (2005)."
The new album will be recorded, mixed and mastered at Muhannad Bursheh's personal recording studio; "The Phexagon Studio." Official recording sessions will start on Sunday, March 1, 2009. All instruments and vocals will be recorded by Muhannad B., yet the album will feature a few guest musicians to do some additional touches - their names will be revealed as the recording is in progress. "Omnipotent Unknown" will feature a variety of instruments: electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drums, flute, violin, percussion, synth and keys, and of course vocals.
A studio report was added on the band's official website, which reveals the latest updates in the recording/mixing process of the album.

In the same interview where the infamous rock frontman Axl Rose gave a scathing opinion on former band mate Slash, he gave some interesting, though short and sharp answers regarding the next Guns N Roses album. You can check out some excerpts of the interview below.
Q: When's the next album?
A: "Have no idea and don't care. Hopefully, we'll be working 'Chinese' for a good bit. Of course there's the same idiots that have been around forever already demanding release dates."
Q: How much material is there?
A: "Not as much as Baz [SEBASTIAN BACH] thinks he heard! Really, it doesn't matter. If things go well enough, we'd like to get another out at some point in our lifetimes."
Q: Is anything finished?
A: "Depends how you look at it."
Q: How do you look at it?
A: "Not something we've focused on."
Q: You're not saying much.
A: "You got that? What I can say is if you don't like this, then you probably won't like that. Same people, lots more approaches, bit meaner in places and darker in some. Robin does a really great Stevie Ray Vaughan-type solo on one track."

Jonathan Cohen from Billboard.com is reporting:
Atlanta-based MASTODON have a strange story to tell on their new seven song, 50-minute heavy metal opus, Crack The Skye. And the best way to hear the whole twisted tale will be live and direct: the band plans to perform the album, due March 24, in its entirety on their upcoming tour.
The complete album performance is something new for the group, says bassist Bill Kelliher, but "there's something about (Crack The Skye) where it would be weird to leave a song out. We'll incorporate a whole stage show, which will hopefully make it even more exciting for kids to come see and more visually stimulating." The band is also hoping to make a short movie from all the songs, which Kelliher hopes will be Mastodon's version of The Wall.
The trek begins at Coachella in mid-April, after which Mastodon heads to Europe to support METALLICA. But hometown Moastodon fans will get a preview tomorrow night (February 28) when the band headlines a free, 40-band heavy metal festival at Atlanta's Masquerade nightclub, produced by the car company Scion.
