Cvlt Nation is currently hosting a stream of “The Captain’s Daughter,” a new track from Portland atmospheric sound exhibitionists Eight Bells. Check out the song right here.
The premiere comes in anticipation of the band’s forthcoming full-length of the same name, set for release on February 19th, 2013 via Seventh Rule Recordings. Engineered by sound mastermind Billy Anderson, "The Captain’s Daughter" features four organic soundscapes that oscillate seamlessly between tranquil and terrifying. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Eight Bells features within its ranks SubArachnoid Space alumni Melynda Jackson and Christopher Van Huffel. A native of rural Texas now based in Portland, Oregon, Jackson’s Eight Bells continues in SAS’ tradition of heavy guitar exploration, adding a blackened dissonance to the mix and minimalist vocals. Jackson is accompanied by classically trained six-string bassist Haley Westeiner who created the centerpiece vocals on 'Fate and Technology' and also provides harmonic counterpoint to Jackson’s newly discovered vocalizations.
"Van Huffel resumes the throne he occupied for ten years, bringing his thunderous, nuanced double kick playing with him. With this power trio, Jackson has found a group that brings focus and support to her unapologetically expressionistic experimental metal music."

Guitarist / lead vocalist Domenik Papaemmanouil states, "There is nothing like being part of a band's decision-making process. Alex Katsigiannis, co-founder / guitarist, added: "After years of being in hiatus, we now want to re-engage with our fans, or potential ones. Common Dead is set to release "Allegorize" this coming March 12th, 2013 via independent distribution. An exercise in true independence in metal, the one-man effort will be available at online stores with nine tracks of tech-death-groove metal influence, taking cues from metal titans such as Gojira, Machine Head, and Pantera.
"Worldview" is now streaming as the first complete song released from the new album, while an upcoming video for another song is currently in production.
The band founder comments: "'Worldview' takes a look at the daily objectives of people across all classes, from a top-down view, at the common motions that define us. Hunger, competition, pleasure, violence, business. Then I tried to write something that described all this back to me, and it turned out a cynical narrative. "
Rio de Janeiro based metal act Unmasked Brains is currently offering the "Turning On" release as a free download. You can get the tracks at the band's website here. Unmasked Brains also comments:
"The material contains five songs, plus printable artwork in high resolution. Four songs were recorded during the period in which the band was paused with live activities, and one was recorded live during the presentation at Calabouço Rock Bar.
"The initial proposal would include the material into a CD that is being produced, but as the new recordings exceeded expectations in terms of quality, the tracks were re-recorded with new arrangements and higher quality.
"Another factor that contributed to the decision was the fact that, with the return to rehearsals, the band honed its technique again, allowing greater precision in performing the songs." More...
