New York hardcore band Subzero has called it quits after roughly twenty years together. Frontman Lou Di Bella had the following to say:
"After a long 20 year run of smashing stages with Subzero we've decided to lay the band to rest. We had a fuckin blast and live with no regrets. Just wanted to say thank you to all the diehards who stood by us from the very beginning and to all the new supporters we've picked up along the way. All the good words of encouragement, showing up at our shows, reppin' our gear and crankin our music! It's a big part of what kept us alive for this long and we thank you for that. All the best to you guys and thank you once again! It's been real. Much respect.
"We will be playing a few more shows through out different regions of NY and out of state before we end it. Our first is at Popeyes Pub in Westchester, NY with Jasta on February 27th and then in Brooklyn at Europa with The Casualties and The Krays for the A Clockwork Orange Fest. That's the last time you'll be hearing The Suffering Of Man/Necropolis set. Then we'll be going out with a bang at the Superbowl of Hardcore aka Black N Blue Blowl at Studio B in Brooklyn on May 30th. There we will be reforming as the original band doing a strictly old school set. All the demo and Happiness Without Peace classics. You don't want to miss any of these shows! Thanks for the good times and the memories! COURAGE! STRENGTH! PRIDE! LIONHEARTED!"

Josh(Rabbit) has left the band to dedicate his time to his new family in the making. We are happy for him and wish him the best, he is our brother and we support him 100% in his decision. Mike Miller, formerly of A Dozen Furies, is taking over drumming duties. We are stoked to have him and have started working on our next album. Our first show with Mike is scheduled to be @ Skillman St. Pub on May 1st. We will have some new songs and plan on being in the studio by summer time. We will keep everyone updated on how things are developing. See ya soon."
Former Opiate for the Masses, current Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity drummer Seven Antonopolous has checked in with the following recap of NAMM:
"Hello everyone! I wanted to drop a few lines about our NAMM adventures. As most of you are probably awere, The Namm Convention is the largest trade/expo show here in the United States. But, more than that it's a great excuse for muscians to hang out, drink excessive amounts of whisky and interact with fans! Thursday night we went to see Simon phillips at the Hyatt hotel. I ended up doing shots with a couple crazy Germans go figure: Chris Koch my European Sabian rep and Christoph Schneider/Rammstein. Needless to say, we had a blast while Johnny Tempesta/The Cult and Charlie Benante/Anthrax brought down the house. So,friday it was myself,Christoph/Rammstein and Shawn/Megadeth at Vic Firth. Many thanks to Marco (The master of the grappa) for having us! Christoph, Shawn and I are really good friends and it's always cool hanging out for 'official business'! That night was the Sabian event Jojo Mayer played, always a real treat to see him play. Really inspiring! That brings us to saturday, and a pretty good size hangover! I was at the Sabian booth with a gang of shredders as well as good friends. Myself, Ray/Korn, Xavier/BuckCherry, Shawn/Megadeth. Ray and I did a drum clinic tour together for Sabian last November. He's one of my favorite players.
As always a Huge thank you to Chris Stankee and everyone at Sabian For a kiler time! I'd Also like to thank Vega, Garrison, Donell and all at D W drums! (special thanks, Vega getting me to my room thursday night!) In addition, Chris Brady and all at Aquarian drumheads! This was an Awesome NAMM and again thanks to all my endorsers for taking care of me all year long! Nothin' but the best!"

Danish metal dynamite Mercenary presents you its brand-new video clip for the song "The Endless Fall," which has been taken from their 2008 album, "Architect Of Lies."
The band states: "When we entered 2009, we had the feeling that 2008 would be a hard year to top – we'd just returned from a really great tour with Arch Enemy in December (who needless to say rocked our proverbial socks off every night – one of the greatest live acts we've ever seen), we'd done the Danish Headbanger’s Ball tour with Raunchy, we’d played our biggest show ever on Wacken, and last but not least, we had the honour of serving time on stage as support for the almighty Megadeth on a handful of shows. Truly a great experience, and a lesson well learned for us – no matter how big you get or how many million albums you sell, there’s always time to show respect for bands a zillion times smaller than yours. No matter what anybody says or writes, we’ll always remember Dave Mustaine as a truly humble and helluva funny guy, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and who made sure we were treated well by his crew on these few dates. We even got to share the stage with Megadeth, singing badly out-of-tune backing vocals for 'Peace Sells' on one of the shows, which was to say the least, surreal. More...
Rock legends Iron Maiden have confirmed that the final show ever of their massive "Somewhere Back in Time World Tour 2008 -- 9" will be in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on the 2nd of April at the Bank Atlantic Center. This, the band's first show in Florida for 13 years, will definitely be the last show of one of the most ambitious rock tours ever undertaken and promises to be a big party night for both the band and audience.
Says drummer and local Florida resident Nicko McBrain; "We'll be arriving right in the middle of Spring Break so this really promises to be a huge party for everyone and I'm sure there will be more than a few sore heads in Fort Lauderdale the following day! The whole tour has been an amazing experience and this final leg back on Ed Force One promises to be crazier than ever!
"It was quite something to bring to reality the mad idea of creating a flying tour bus out of a Boeing 757 but it's enabled us to go further to reach many fans in countries we have never played before and also revisit fans where we haven't seen for some time, and it's a long time since we played in Florida! The 757 truly has been our 'magic carpet' as Bruce describes it.
"Luckily for me the magic carpet is stopping not far from my front door which is very handy and nice way to finish this tour. Not far to stagger home!!"
Billboard.com has posted an extensive interview with Axl Rose, who has not done so in nine years according to the publication. Here are a couple of excerpts:
Without sounding presumptuous, what took so long to get the album out?
And without sounding facetious, what didn't? There aren't too many issues of the hundreds [we ran into] that happened as quickly as anyone would have preferred, from building my studio; finding the right players; never did find a producer; still don't have real record company involvement or support; to getting it out and mixed and mastered.
All that aside, it's the right record and I couldn't ask for more in that regard. Could have been a more enjoyable journey, but it's there now. The art comes first. It dictates if not the course [then] the destination artistically. For me, once the real accompanying artwork is there with a few videos and some touring, the package was achieved and delivered.
And to do so at this level in terms of quality, both artistic and performance-wise, both on record and live, is something that's a miracle at minimum and something that wouldn't have happened, no matter how anyone tries to convince others, with old Guns, regardless of anyone's intentions. It was just as ugly in old Guns, regardless of our success.
Are you planning to make videos?
We're finalizing a video for "Better" and writing a couple others now. Over time different ideas have been tossed around, written up or submitted but that was then. Nothing we had come up with -- or at least the approaches so far -- felt right. We have been discouraged from making a video all along by Interscope, up until Best Buy requested one after the release, and in a manner by Interscope then of, "So where's the video?," taking everyone more than off guard.

HATEBREED has revealed the release date and tracklisting of their new covers album, "For The Lions." The album is set for release on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). This new release is the follow-up to the band’s #1 Billboard charting DVD, LIVE DOMINANCE (released September of 2008).
The songs on "For The Lions" were carefully selected by HATEBREED to represent a panoramic view of some of their favorite artists and greatest musical inspirations. Having completed the album in 2008, the band felt their work wasn’t done yet and just returned to the studio with original guitar player Wayne Lozinak to record additional tracks for the album. The four new covers are among the most bludgeoning the band has yet to record. These include, “Ghosts Of War” (Slayer), “Supertouch/Shitfit (Bad Brains), “Thirsty” (Black Flag) and “Suicidal Maniac” (Suicidal Tendencies).
FOR THE LIONS was produced, engineered and mixed by long-time band associate Chris "Zeuss" Harris.
You can preview of “Suicidal Maniac” on the band's MySpace page.
In additional HATEBREED news, the band announced the departure of guitar player Sean M. Martin, welcoming back to the fold original guitarist Wayne Lozinak.
Front man Jamey Jasta says, “I speak on behalf of all of us and we support Sean's decision to leave and want him to be happy and successful at everything he does. There are no bad feelings at all and you'll probably see him hanging on stage at some of our local shows. We're family and he will be missed but HATEBREED will forge on.” More...

"2009 promises much more of the violent smashing sonority of those truly death metal warriors to their fans. New dates have been announced and the trio returns to North America along with Destruction in March, where they will perform 30 concerts, including again the US and Canada. Right after this tour the brothers will cross the planet heading to Australia and New Zealand for another series of demolishing performances.
"September features a third return to North America along with Obituary, and the fans will again satisfy their hunger for the band’s unmistakable brutality."

Now it's time to move the project to our old (but re-located) abode Gesperrt Studios to lay down the guitars, bass and vocals.

Earache Records has issue the following statement about re-releasing early Godflesh albums together as one pack:
"Three long-out-of-print releases from industrial legends GODFLESH have been re-released by Earache Records as one value-packed set.
"The pack - which is retailing for the price of just one CD - includes the band's 1996 album, 'SONGS OF LOVE AND HATE', coupled with the 1997 re-interpretation of that album, 'LOVE AND HATE IN DUB'. Also included is the long-deleted DVD 'IN ALL LANGUAGES', which features all of the bands promo music videos.
"Formed by one of NAPALM DEATH's founding members, JUSTIN BROADRICK, GODFLESH's illustrious career saw them become one of the mots influential industrial bands ever, touring the globe with the likes of MINISTRY, FEAR FACTORY, DANZIG and TYPE O NEGATIVE, and gaining influential fans including the likes of METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT.
"Now, after years out of print, these classic releases are available once again. Order your copy featuring two CD albums plus a DVD, all for the price of just one regular CD, from the Earache European Webstore"
Dutch melodic death/thrash band Fuelblooded has issued the following statement about streaming a new song online:
"‘When Passion Dies’, a brand new track taken from Fuelblooded’s forthcoming album ‘Off The Face Off The Earth’, can now be heard on the official Fuelblooded MySpace page.
"Fuelblooded’s debut album, ‘Inflict the Inevitable’, was released worldwide by UK based label Copro Records in March 2006, receiving many positive reviews all over the world. After an extensive touring cycle, the band took most of 2008 off to write and record their sophomore album. ‘Off the Face of the Earth’ was mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren, well known from his work for Scar Symmetry, One Man Army, The Absence, Carnal Forge, Sonic Syndicate, among others. The cooperation between Fuelblooded and Kjellgren results in a very dynamic record, perfectly exposing the deadly combination of power and melody typical for Fuelblooded’s sound. In two words: bonecrushing metal! ‘Off the Face of the Earth’ marks the recording debut of singer Peter Brinkman, proving him to be a strong addition to Fuelblooded, live as well as on record. His powerful voice really adds a new dimension to the Fuelblooded sound.
"A release date for ‘Off the Face of the Earth’ has yet to be announced. ‘When Passion Dies’ is the first song from the new album to be presented to the masses. Enjoy, spread the word and let us know what you think!"
Brad Angle of Guitar World magazine recently conducted an interview with Tool guitarist Adam Jones. When asked how the new album was coming along, Jones replied:
"It's been coming along...great! [laughs] No, we've been on hiatus. I'm writing and [bassist] Justin [Chancellor]'s been writing, but [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] has been working on his wine. We've all just been taking some time away from each other, which has been nice. I've also been working on producing some comics."
The entire interview can be found in the latest issue of Guitar World, out on newsstands now.
Tool has been on break from touring and writing since early 2008, following nearly two years of supporting their most recent studio album, 2006's "10,000 Days," which marked its first set of new material since 2001's "Lateralus."
In December Maynard James Keenan revealed that he had been working with A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel on new material. When asked about releasing the material or touring, he stated: "I doubt if we'll do any touring or, you know, do a full album," he said. "We might do some one-off shows here and there if the timing's right and it seems like a good vibe and a smart thing to do. But most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on, you know, one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore."
Candlelight Records has announced its third label packaged tour for North America. Set to kick off on June 6, CIII will feature the talents of US black metal legends Absu, with support coming from France’s Glorior Belli, Austin-based Averse Sefira and Los Angeles-based Sothis. The tour will visit 22 cities throughout the US and Canada beginning in San Marcos, California and wrapping up in Dallas, Texas on June 29. Tickets for all shows are currently on sale exclusively at Enterthevault.com. Tickets will go on sale through all local and online ticket agencies starting March 5.
Absu’s self-titled new album hits stores nationwide February 24. Currently featured on the cover of Metal Maniacs, the album is the first to offer new material from the highly regarded metal band in nearly eight years. This will be the band’s first large-scale tour since their tour alongside Enslaved in 1997.
France’s Glorior Belli make their first trip to North America as they participate on CIII. Their sophomore record, "Manifesting the Raging Beast," was released in 2007 via Southern Lord Records. The band now, signed to Candlelight, will begin recording of their label debut, titled "Meet Us at the Southern Sign," this month with hopes to see it released during the tour.
Averse Sefira joins CIII continuing to support their latest album, "Advent Parallax." Their participation on the tour is their third national tour in two years having previously toured with labelmates 1349 in 2007 and with friends Immolation in early 2008.
Sothis released their debut, "De Oppresso Liber," on September 2. Mixed by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond), the record has enjoyed growing and consistent sales since release. This will be the band’s first national tour.
CIII follows the success of Candlelight’s previous label tours – the first in 2005 featuring Entombed, Crowbar, Pro-Pain & The Mighty Nimbus, and second in 2007 featuring Enslaved, Dark Funeral and then newcomers Abigail Williams. The label, maintaining offices in Philadelphia and London, continues to grow since launching American operations in 2001. Candlelight is distributed throughout the US exclusively via Caroline Distribution, EMI Music for Canada and Plastichead Music for the rest of the world.
Confirmed dates for the CIII 2009 tour are as follows: More...
Billboard.com reports: Several new gameplay twists emerge for the first time on "Guitar Hero: Metallica," which arrives in stores March 29 from Activision.
As previously reported, players have a double bass option on drums for the difficult and expert levels, which can be enabled by using a splitter and an additional pedal for the kick drum. In addition, all of the songs will be "unlocked" from the beginning of the game as opposed to them not being available until players reach certain levels, as in previous versions of "Guitar Hero."
"It was time to change it up a bit," Neversoft lead designer Alan Flores says. "Guitar Hero: Metallica" will be available for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. Aerosmith was the first artist to star in its own version of the game, which was released last summer.
