Given the overwhelming reception to last year's towering studio album "Unto The Locust," San Francisco Bay Area metal quartet Machine Head doesn't require much of an introduction at this point. Christened "The Eighth Plague," their first North American headlining tour in four years - with Suicide Silence and Darkest Hour in tow - came to Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday, February 4. Prior to the blistering performance at the Palladium (reviewed here), I checked in with drummer Dave McClain, a permanent Machine Head fixture since sophomore effort "The More Things Change." He began by thanking me for actually making sure to press "record," and related a discomforting "Spinal Tap" moment from the day prior in New York - where thanks to a technical lapse, he was forced to give the same interview twice in a row. Luckily this time, once was enough. Here's what took place: More...

"Relatively new faces in the metal world, A SOUND OF THUNDER is fronted by powerful lead vocalist Nina Osegueda. Lead guitarist Josh Schwartz and drummer Chris Haren founded A SOUND OF THUNDER in 2008. Nina joined in 2009, and was followed by bass and keyboard player, Jesse Keen, in 2010. In less than two years, A Sound of Thunder recorded and released an EP, a charity single benefiting the West Memphis Three, and a full length self-produced album. They have performed throughout the US, and opened for such high profile bands as Accept, Sabaton, Firewind, Primal Fear and Doro.
"The songs for Out of the Darkness were written and arranged by Josh Schwartz and the rest of A Sound of Thunder, with lyrics written by Nina Osegueda and Chris Haren. Legendary Raven front-man John Gallagher also appears, performing a duet with Nina on the title track Out of the Darkness." More...

Dark Day Sunday, the new thrash act formed by Frank Aresti of Fates Warning and Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall, is giving fans a taste of what the band will be bringing this year by offering a free MP3 of the song “Halfway To Godz.” Head over to Dark Day Sunday's Facebook profile to check out the track. The band also commented on its creation:
"DDS is composed of four guys with a common love for head banging fury, wailing guitar solos, melodic vocals that simply won’t quit, and a rhythm section so in tune with one another you'd swear they were born of the same insanity. Frank Aresti started his career with seminal prog-metal band, Fates Warning. As inspiration to many later bands, from Dream Theater to Slipknot, Frank’s guitar playing helped propel the band to commercial success and critical acclaim."
“I love playing with Fates,” comments Frank, “but DDS has a special place in my heart. I grew up listening to late 70’s British punk and hardcore, then to early American thrash. I absolutely love this music.”
In the drummer's seat is Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall. “Jason brings a great energy to this band,” comments Aresti. “He lends an aggressive approach, pushing the beat while completely locking up with the rhythm section. It’s a powerful feeling when you hear us live.” More...

Additional tracking was done at Arbor Ridge Studios and Track and Field Recording by Nick Petersen.
"Half Blood" is set for a Spring 2012 release via Relapse Records and features cover artwork from renowned Russian surrealist painter Denis Forkas Kostromitin. Relapse Records commented on the album:

Adding to a maniacal live takeover that includes a short South American run with Aborted, the Grind Over Europe Tour with Rotten Sound and Magrudergrind, a U.K. journey with Anaal Nathrakh, and a handful of stateside headlining dates, California goregrind ministers Exhumed also recently announced a near month-long bout of U.S. dates with death metal icons/headliners Cannibal Corpse.
Joined by labelmates Abysmal Dawn and Arkaik, the live rituals will commence on April 5th in Jacksonville, Florida and include an appearance at the The Cincinnati Metal Fest on April 14th as well as a special show on April 28th where the brutal caravan will merge with the Decibel Magazine tour featuring Behemoth, Watain, The Devil’s Blood and In Solitude.
Comments vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: “We are totally stoked about this tour and look forward to seeing some smiling, blood-streaked faces in the front row every night. It’s a great tour package to be a part of, and anyone within barfing distance should cruise out and grab a beer with us! It’s truly a pleasure to support a band that has as much longevity and integrity as the gentlemen in Cannibal Corpse, so we’ll try extra hard not to go out there and stink it up every night. Our livers, brain cells and dignity are about to be sacrificed on the altar of death metal once again — see you all out there!”

As was previously announced, Killswitch Engage has reunited with former vocalist Jesse Leach. The band has now issued the following official statement:
"Killlswitch Engage are pleased to announce that they have filled the singer vacancy in the band and they have done so with a familiar face: original vocalist Jesse Leach.
"Leach sang on the band's first self-titled album, which came out in 2000, and on their landmark 2002 Roadrunner debut Alive or Just Breathing. Leach left the band in 2002 and was replaced by Howard Jones, but his work on Alive or Just Breathing has always been revered by diehard, longtime KsE fans. Things have come full circle a decade later, and Leach and the band couldn't be more pleased about this reunion.
"After much deliberation and careful consideration, we are pleased to announce that Jesse Leach has rejoined Killswitch Engage. Our job was to find the best person to fill Howard's shoes: a decision based on talent and not familiarity.
"Truth be told, Jesse blew us away in auditions. The room seemed charged with electricity. He commanded both new and old material, and proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he wanted to do this. The choice became very clear and apparent.
"This change is very exciting. We know you're going to love it. This is truly a new era in KsE history and it is ready to shred your face off. So, please help us in welcoming Jesse back into the KsE family; he is a rare and great talent, a fact that older KsE fans have known for years. Here is to a killer new record and a bright future. The five of us cannot wait to write this record and play shows together and bring that feeling to our fans. It's been far too long." More...

Incoming Cerebral Overdrive will be releasing the new album "Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift" this coming May. The band's publicist issued the follow press release about the album:
"Born at the dawn of the new millennium in Italy, Incoming Cerebral Overdrive is heavy to the core. The band first emerged with their debut Cerebral Heart (Myphonic Records, 2008) which was characterized by a ferocious energy that has stayed with them to this day. However it was their union with Supernatural Cat and the 2009 album Controverso where they defined and honed their unique sound into something all the more dynamic. Their style on one hand was contemporary, heavy, furious and dirty, whilst also acknowledging and embracing Italy's progressive musical past. Controverso really was the first step in a more focused direction.
"The end of the first decade of the new millennium marks a new step in the evolution of Incoming Cerebral Ovedrive. The title of the new chapter is: Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift. The concept, an imaginary, dark and lonely trip adrift discovered in a diary. Emotions of fear, anger and irrational excitement are expressed, waiting for a certain epilogue into desolation, a final annihilation in a cosmic fusion.
"Sonically, this new album is a journey that intersects and expands in a huge, deep and at times, claustrophobic monolith. Heavy cavernous guitars with back-breaking riffs, multifaceted, effect laden vocals and rhythmic notes plunge into a psychedelic mix of unpredictable sounds of distress and madness that we, the recipient, can only succumb to."
"Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift" will be out in May 2012 via Supernatural Cat. Stay tuned for future transmissions with updates on the release.

This leg kicks off April 13th in San Antonio, Texas and wraps up April 28th in Allentown, PA. Support on this leg of the tour will come from Kylesa, Ghoul and Legacy of Disorder.
"These press releases usually go something like this--", said bellicose front-thing Oderus Urungus. "There is a general statement about what GWAR is up to, then I say something stupid, then it goes to a list of the shows and a bunch of links. That's what's happening right now. We really have to work harder to make these things more interesting."
Oderus adjusted his tie and continued -- "We are finishing this last spate of shows as a tribute to fallen Scumdog Flattus Maximus, and will be playing as a four piece behind the screaming assault of Balsac. In this way we shall give all the US bohabs ample chance to fall to their knees in a sobbing heap when confronted with the reality of Flattus' departure...and a chance to say farewell. Then GWAR can move forward, and we shall."
The first leg of the tour kicks off with a special tribute show for fallen band mate and friend Cory Smoot, AKA Flattus Maximus, in Richmond, VA, at The National Theater on Friday March 16th. All proceeds from the Richmond show will benefit the "Smoot Family Fund" which has been established to help support Cory's widow and their unborn child. "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II" will be released on North American soil by Southern Lord this coming Tuesday, February 14th. While recorded by Stuart Hallerman and mastered by Mell Detmer in the same sessions as its predecessor, "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I," the second chapter in the series invokes even more improvisational and unrestrained energy. The new album is being praised by journalists across the globe as one of the paramount albums in Earth's storied, ongoing linage, now over two decades long.
Earth has also recently booked an album release show for "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II," in the band's home town of Seattle. The performance will take place at The Highline on February 25th with opening support from Low Hums and Cold Lake being provided. Several days later the band will embark on a new European tour including a stop at All Tomorrow's Parties' upcoming festival.
