French dealers in brutal death metal Insain have officially inked a multi-album deal with Kaotoxin Records, beginning with the official issuing of the band's previously self-released "Spiritual Rebirth" album. Metalunderground.com will soon be exclusively streaming the opening track from the album prior to its release.
Preorders for the album will start on March 12th, for a March 26th release date, both in limited edition hand-numbered DigiPak and as a regular CD. Kaotoxin commented on the band:
"Insain started in Paris, back in 2007, year during which they released their debut demo, 'Corpse before Death.' The band is all about early 90's death metal worship, mixing U.S. and Polish influences, like a crossover between Deicide and Vader, Immolation and Decapitated... the fast, brutal and deadly way!
"The debut album, 'Spiritual Rebirth,' was mixed and mastered at the Hertz studio in Poland by Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawski (Vader, Decapitated, Hate...) in 2010 and then (self-)released the very same year with artwork and layout by Michal 'Xaay' Loranc (Behemoth, Nile...).
"Featuring eleven tracks for a total running time of 37+ minutes, 'Spiritual Rebirth' is a merciless brutal and twisted beast hammering the eardrum until it bleeds, showing the band's impressive songwriting talent, mixing up-to-date blasting utter brutality with catchy melodies everyone will get stuck to like a fly in some gargantuous spider's web and lightning fast thrashy riffs that'd leave the listener no rest until his neck's properly broken. February is black metal history month, which means there’s plenty of raw, frozen, and spiteful heaviness headed your way in the coming weeks here at Metalunderground.com. In honor of the infamous style we already took a look at Darkthrone in our Sunday Old School column, and now that it’s time for a new edition of “Unearthing the Metal Underground” we’ll dive even further into black metal with three bands rising up through the ranks out of obscurity.
This isn’t our first foray into the black metal scene, as you can still check out our previous editions covering solo black metal acts, Red and Anarchist black metal, and even Christian “unblack” metal.
Whether you prefer your black metal of the symphonic or utterly eardrum-destroying and abrasive variety, each of these bands deserve to be heard by a wider audience and should hit your regular musical rotation.
Taking a page from the likes of Gothmog and Dimmu Borgir, this young Chicago based band has plenty of extreme vocals and heavy riffing, but supports the music with both corpse paint theatrics and a symphonic flair. The lads from Massakren may be from the U.S. but you’d never tell that from the music alone, which exudes a strongly European feel. Massakren released a self-titled last year (reviewed here), and hopefully we’ll be getting even more melodic mayhem from the band in the near future. To hear what the group has to offer, check out Massakren’s Facebook profile or watch the music videos available below.
Swedish monolithic doom band Anguish is streaming it's entire eight-song debut album "Through the Archdemons Head" over at this location. Formed in 2007, Anguish delivered it's first demo titled "Dawn of Doom" in 2010. "Through the Archdemons Head" will be unleashed on February 15th via Dark Descent Records. Check out a video upload of the track "When the Ancients Dare to Walk" below.

A rally for Republican Party nominee Newt Gingrich in Las Vegas on Thursday morning was interrupted by local Nevada grindcore band Traumatic Anal Devastation. Apparently the band members showed up outside the rally, plugged their instruments in, and generated what Gingrich staffer Terry ‘The Stick’ Foley called “the sound of a tank driving through a minefield.”
Police showed up and pulled the plug on the band after about five minutes (twenty songs). Singer for the group Chip “Gravelthroat” Corbin said the impromptu performance was a political statement based on the band’s agenda for equal rights, animal rights, and support of anti-war movements across the world. When asked how his band’s name reflected its political beliefs, Corbin stated “Traumatic Anal Devastation is obviously metaphorical for the way the government and capitalism has continually raped the public at-large.”
When asked how people were supposed to understand the political nature of the lyrics given the undecipherable delivery of them, Corbin responded “Huh? What do you mean?” No reports of hearing loss or more than usual psychological damage from the Gingrich supporters who were present.
"Blood for the Master," the brand new studio album from New Orleans Louisiana's sons of American no-frills black metal meets death & roll, Goattwhore, is set for release in North America on February 14th 2012 via Metal Blade Records. Recorded in St. Petersburg, FL at Mana Studios, Goatwhore once again joined forces with producer Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Agnostic Front, The Mountain Goats) to lay down the ten blistering tracks for the band's 5th full-length release, which Decibel Magazine claims "reeks of blasphemy, brimstone, Jägermeister and fire."
Goatwhore will be unveiling the third single from "Blood for the Master" over on Pitchfork.com starting today. Fans can hear the new song, "Parasitic Scriptures of the Sacred Word," streaming now here.
The album's track listing is as follows:
1. Collapse in Eternal Worth

Washington based act Dog Shredder will be releasing a new EP entitled "Brass Tactics," and the band's publicist issued the following press release:
"Planet Earth, behold the mighty prog-strewn high-powered trio Dog Shredder. The Bellingham, Washington-based outfit’s rambunctious metallic output is about to bore its way into your head like a pissed-off electrified sixty-pound millipede on a brain-drilling mission.
"Several years of regional touring and countless performances alongside everyone from Melt Banana to Marnie Stern, Helmet to Black Cobra, and everywhere in between has amassed DOG SHREDDER a wealth of bewildered reactions from show-goers and media alike throughout the Pacific Northwest. Even Seattle’s major weekly arts paper The Stranger referred to the band’s unhinged live energy as 'downright unfuckwithable' in a show review.
"Following their self-released two-song Boss Rhino EP in 2010, DOG SHREDDER are preparing to lay waste to faces worldwide with their next invasion of aural decimation this Spring. The forthcoming Brass Tactics bears three brand new slabs of calculated chaos that captures DOG SHREDDER’s live attack. Recorded and mixed by Adam B. Pike at Portland’s Toadhouse Studio and Paul Turpin at Bellingham’s Champion Street Sound Studios, and mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering in Seattle, Brass Tactics will be released as a 12? EP via Seattle’s Good To Die Records this April. More...

The Night Flight Orchestra, the new classic rock project with Björn "Speed" Strid from Soilwork and Sharlee D'Angelo from Arch Enemy, has signed with Coroner Records for the worldwide release of a debut album. The band is currently recording the album, which will be released in June of 2012. Coroner Records commented:
"The Night Flight Orchestra started like so many others as an innocent yet serious drunken idea when Björn Strid (Soilwork) and David Andersson (Mean Streak, Soilwork session player) were on the road together somewhere in North America in 2007. Björn and David were bonding over what they considered 'classic' or not, from rock'n'roll conspiracies to being arrested in a lobby with nothing but leather pants on.
"All those scenarios, fictional or real, needed a soundtrack. They also came to think that whether you're on a metal tour or not, a lot of classic rock songs say it all and can really lend you a helping hand and make you forget about everything, especially when in motion or traveling. The classic escape. The never-ending road trip. The transatlantic night flight. It may sound simple and naive but what it all comes down to is that we all need that soundtrack to feel extra special, whether you have been arrested in a lobby or not. More...
Century Media has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Necrowretch:
"Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of Necrowretch from France. Combining influences from the early works of bands such as Merciless, Morgoth, Grotesque and tons of other unforgettable acts with their own vision, Necrowretch is currently one of the most promising young death metal bands."
Necrowretch's guitarist / vocalist Vlad comments: "We are of course very happy and proud to join the Century Media Records family in which we already feel really comfortable! We are convinced that this collaboration is for us a unique chance to work in the best conditions with experienced and passionate people. We are now eagerly waiting to start working on our first unholy album. Finally, I would like to thank Jens Prüter, Philipp Schulte and Jerry Maréchal for their confidence and dedication!"
Jens Prüter, Head Of A&R at Century Media Europe also stated: "It already surprised the metal scene that we signed the, back then, rather unknown band Sonne Adam from Israel. And I can just repeat myself: it's about the unique quality and we have a history signing Death Metal newcomers. Bands like Grave, Morgoth and Asphyx had just a couple of demos out before we signed them over 20 years ago. Let's continue with the next generation and welcome Necrowretch! The Putrefactive Infestation 12" dominated my turntable for some months and I'm sure the upcoming album will be as sick and heavy! Bands like Massacra, Agressor or Mercyless can be proud that Necrowretch is carrying on the torch of French Death Metal." More...
Today, Revolvermag.com is hosting the exclusive premiere of “Scourge of Iron,” the third track off Cannibal Corpse’s forthcoming slab of brutality, "Torture," slated for North American release through Metal Blade Records on March 13, 2012.
Comments bassist Alex Webster of the new tune: “‘Scourge of Iron’ helps to show the song writing diversity on Torture. [First album single] ‘Demented Aggression’ is blazing fast and frantic, while ‘Scourge…’ is a down tempo, pounding song. They're both death metal, but at opposite ends of the speed spectrum. Expect to hear this kind of variety throughout Torture. We’ve utilized many different tempos, rhythms, and feels in these songs with the goal of making an album that is varied and dynamic but also very brutal. On March 13th you'll get to decide whether or not we succeeded.”

Legendary hardcore icon Harley Flanagan, bassist/vocalist of Cro-Mags and Harley's War fame, has officially signed with Southern Lord for several upcoming releases.
Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson released the following statement regarding this new alliance with Harley’s newest endeavors:
“Harley Flanagan is one of the most revered, controversial and infamous musicians of the last 25 years of underground music. His resume and reputation speak equal amounts of vitriolic decibels as does his bass stack blaring in your face. I have personally been a huge fan of Harley and his work with the Cro-Mags from the first time I heard their debut album Age of Quarrel in 1986. Much like the feeling you got when you first heard Bad Brains, Discharge or Minor Threat, Cro-Mags were musically and aesthetically on another level that was matchless.
"Through the power of the net and sheer luck I started talking to Harley Flanagan over emails and telephone past year. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the intensity and honesty of his playing also carried through in his personality. Harley is humble, raw, intelligent, driven and focused. To say it is an honor for Southern Lord to be working with Harley Flanagan is a enormous understatement! We’re in shock and CAN NOT WAIT to get this shit going! The first release we will be doing together will be the forthcoming Harley’s War album. The demos of the material he has shared with us for this are fucking phenomenal! The new Harley’s War material has the same feeling as the initial musical impact the Cro-Mags first had in the mid-’80s. Killer songwriting, raw lyrics and Harley Flanagan’s trademark bass playing. As mentioned above this is “other level” shit! Expect nothing less than a brutal musical beatdown from the master!”
Stay tuned for developments on all things pertaining to Harley Flanagan and Harley's War over the coming months.
