Metal Kaoz recently conducted an interview with Dave Sherman (ex-Spirit Caravan, Earthride) who talked about his new band, Weed is Weed, and the group's future touring plans. Dave also revealed that there is a talk with Scott "Wino" Weinrich about an upcoming Spirit Caravan reunion. An excerpt follows:
Metal Kaoz: I know WEED IS WEED has played several Maryland based shows over the years, but now with a properly released full length album on the horizon, are there any plans to take the band on the road in 2013 for an extended period of time?
Yes! We want to tour as much as we can for this record to get the name out there, so we are booking as many shows as we can for 2013.
Metal Koaz: Sherm, you've been a fixture in the Maryland/DC Doom scene from the start, and have shared the stage with everyone from Wino and Hank III to SOURVEIN and just recently CLUTCH. Have you ever given any thought to doing a solo record? I can't even begin to imagine the all-star lineup you could assemble! More...

Guitarist Martin Hastrup of Denmark's Opiate has checked in with the following announcement about the band taking time off from live shows to write new material:
"Hi Everybody! For the next 3-4 months I will be backpacking my way through Asia, which means that I will be taking a break from my guitar-wielding duties in Opiate.
"This also means that there won't be any shows until the summer, where we hopefully will get to play a lot of concerts for all of you crazy people out there! In the mean time, the rest of the band will focus on writing new awesome (7-string) tunes, so I will have some new stuff to learn when I come home.
"I hope you all have a great spring, and I'll be seeing you all at our shows this summer!" More...

British thrash metal rarely ever gets much of a mention whenever the genre is discussed. But a little bit of research (or if you don’t like reading, a new documentary film,) will show that there were plenty of quality thrash bands from the British thrash scene, and among the finest were Acid Reign. Acid Reign were formed in 1985 in the Yorkshire town of Harrogate by vocalist Howard "H" Smith, guitarist Gary "Gaz" Jennings, bass player Ian Gangwer and drummer Mark Ramsey Wharton. After slogging it out in small venues for two years, the group were able to record a demo entitled, "Moshkinstein" in 1987, which attracted the attention of Under One Flag Records (a subsidiary of Music For Nations which specialised in thrash metal and home of one of Britain’s most popular thrash bands, Onslaught.) They re-released the "Moshkinstein" demo through the label as an EP, which helped the group to secure support slots for other cult thrash metal stars such as Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam and Nuclear Assault, as well as Bay Area kings Exodus, striking up a friendship with the latter two.
Following the tour with Nuclear Assault, the band were finally able to release their debut full length album, "The Fear" in 1989. The album was something of an underground success, peaking at number ten on the UK Indie Charts and another tour with Nuclear Assault soon followed, taking the band across Europe, before they embarked on a tour with Dark Angel and Swedish doom metal act Candlemass. 5. Naivety And Oblivion
