Over the past few years, Iced Earth released the admirable efforts “Framing Armageddon” and “The Crucible of Man.” The former featured vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens and the latter marked the return of Matt Barlow. The two albums were met with equal mediocre fan response. It seemed as though the band lost a little steam. With Barlow departing for a second time, guitarist Jon Schaffer had a plan.
Century Media representatives suggested he check out a stellar new vocalist from a Canadian progressive extreme band called Into Eternity, a band that was making great waves in the metal scene. After seeing the fire in Stu Block’s eyes that he desperately needed, Schaffer was impressed but still a little unsure on how Block’s patented “hybrid vocal” style (combining traditional, extreme and death style vocals) would fit in with Iced Earth. After just one tryout, Stu was hired. The end result was the realization of Schaffer’s vision: “Dystopia.” The album reinvigorated the band and the reviews proved it.
What followed was a highly successful tour of Europe in late 2011, which brought them to the eve of the first night the most prolific power metal tour to hit North America in years: Iced Earth co-headlining with Symphony X. Now, Hartford isn’t exactly the first place you would think of for prolific tours, but Connecticut was blessed with the opportunity to be the first to witness this event (see our show review). Stu Block sat down with Metal Underground in the back lounge of the band’s tour bus to give the low down on his recruitment. More...

Also a cover version of a male, "not heavy metal artist," is going to be finished within the next days. Don't worry, it won't [be] another German "Schalger" song...
"It will be 150% pure Grave Digger metal. Again we transfered the spirit of the 80['s] into the sound of 2012. Beginning mid of March, we start recording the new masterpiece, again [at]
the Principal Studios/Munster, and it should be finish[ed] by end of May.
"The cover is also done..,focusing again [on] our 'Reaper.' In April, we'll tour Brazil for
some more shows with our friends from Blind Guardian.
"The release of the new album is scheduled for August 2012."
The album will be the band's first since the 2010 LP "The Clans Will Rise Again." More...

Master mainman Paul Speckmann commented on the new album: "'The New Elite' deals with the problems we face in society at this current time. The rich are getting richer and the poor are starving on the streets all around the world while men battle each other for world dominance! Governments are grabbing the world by the balls and dictating the new rules of the soon-to-be New Elite, while the youth of today just sit down and take it. I really wonder if and when the youth of today will take a stand against these crazy fucked-up ruthless world leaders. The time has come to stand up and be counted!"

UK based blackened death goregrind project Undead Pandemic has revealed the title of its upcoming release. Undead Pandemic's second full-length album will be titled "Nunslut" and the band promises that it will be even more extreme and offensive than its predecesor, "The Rising." Ben Murphy, the mastermind behind Undead Pandemic, had to say: "I'm a few tracks into my second full length album (brutality has increased somewhat and will be a total goregrind massacre) - the artwork hasn't been completed yet but I can reveal the title - it's going to be called 'Nunslut'. Full of blasphemy, brutality, hatred and alot of defiled nuns. Tracks written and recorded so far are as follows: 'Hellfuck,' 'Home Surgery Face Transplant,' 'Hellfuck Part 2,' 'Thirty Thousand Fisted Nuns' and 'The Human Centipede (Surgery Perversion).' I'm well into a few other tracks but there's still a lot to be done." Check out an upload for the track "The Human Centipede" below.
Italian metal band Martiria announced that they officially split with long time vocalist Rick Anderson. The former vocalist for Warlord (where he was once known as Damien King III) was let go as the band is seeking a new direction.
The announcement made on the band's Facebook page reads as follows:
"After ten years, four albums recorded and an unforgettable live experience, Andy, Marco, Umberto and Derek want to thank sincerely Rick Anderson for the contribution he gave in developing the Martiria Project. His presence has been fundamental for the success of the band, and his friendship is invaluable for us, since he is both a great man and a brother for us.
"At this stage, though, the band has the need to proceed in a new direction, looking for those new motivations that just the live exhibitions can give. Hence, the decision of (temporarily) splitting our ways; a very suffered decision indeed but, standing the physical distance between us, it wouldn't have been possible to take a different one.
"So, while we welcome Freddy and Alex that join the band, sure that they will be able to keep on with the same passion we have had for all those years, we hug our singer wishing him the best for his future and hoping that our paths will cross again very soon.
"God bless you, Rick. It's a see-you-soon, not a farewell."

Jon Oliva's Pain announced the addition of touring guitarist Joseph Diaz. The announcement was made in a post on the band's Facebook Page:
"New Guitarist Added for the Hall of the Mountain King tour...
"Please give a warm welcome to another great talent...Joe Diaz!
"JOSEPH DIAZ- Guitars and Vocals: Born in New York, school gang violence and the cold war were all realities that shaped his way of thought. His family moved to Tampa Bay Florida when he was 13. As a freshman in High School he found Florida schools far behind and boring. His active mind needed something to fill the void. The answer came as music.
"Music came in the form of a Stratocaster Guitar and a Marshall amp. Soon after, he was turned on to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. This forged the roots for his style as did his constant involvement in the very strong Tampa Bay Metal Scene. Joe spent his youth in many original and cover bands ,writing, learning and paying dues.
"Joe is also a classical guitarist and into the blues but Metal is his main focus. Currently working with Cemetary Sluts (An original Speed Metal Band) and Figure In Black (a Black Sabbath Tribute act)
"He has also played in Disaster Peace (with Pete Black - King Diamond and Wade Black - Crimson Glory) and Brutus (with John Greely – Iced Earth) and his own original bands, Our Final Failure,
End Unseen ,Moss Feaster and Back 2 Zero.
"Welcome to the party Joe...it's going to be a wild ride." More...
