Atlanta’s WITHERED has entered the studio to record the band’s Prosthetic Records debut, "Folie Circulaire," with producer Phillip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness, Black Tusk), which is tentatively scheduled for a summer release. “Everything is going very well,” guitarist Mike Thompson says. “Phillip has a great ear and a great vision for this album. I think it will likely exceed our expectations. Phillip has really gotten a grasp of how we want the record to sound and done a great job of getting in our heads. We were able to transform The Jam Room into our own little world. We’ve been sleeping on the floor and have completely lost track of time. There are no windows or clocks. The focus has been incredible.”
“We chose to work with Phillip because we’ve known him for a long time and his crusty background with Damad and Kylesa is something we really wanted to incorporate into the record,” Thompson elaborates. “A full tilt death or black metal production would have been the wrong direction. Phillip is also a big fan of black and death metalm which gives him a unique perspective that we can trust.” An image of the band and Cope can be viewed here.
"Folie Circulaire" is the follow-up to 2005’s critically-acclaimed "Memento Mori," and will be the band’s Prosthetic Records debut. Tentatively scheduled for a May release, more information will be available shortly. An unnamed demo song from "Folie Circulaire," along with previous material, is available on WITHERED’s official MySpace page.

In the 1980's, when metal ruled MTV and the radio airwaves, two of the greats from the era are the legendary Queensryche and Dokken. When the news of this pairing for a 2008 tour was released, fans made sure they purchased their tickets early. They did not want to miss what was sure to be an evening that evoked long-lost memories and truly great music. There were many surprises in store on this tour--even more that usual.
Queensryche is known for their social awareness, and being artists who do more than write music about it, they take action and get their fans involved too.
During their Mindcrime I and II tour in 2006 they partnered with Buell motorcycles and VH1 to raise money for the Save the Music foundation, fans donated and got to ride along with vocalist Geoff Tate and guitarist Mike Stone from one venue to the next on their one of a kind custom motorcycles Eric Buell designed especially for Stone and Tate.
I do not have the exact tally of the funds raised for Save the Music Foundation, but I understand it to be in excess of $80,000.
Mike Stone told me both he and Geoff Tate are very passionate about music programs remaining in the schools and that it offers children a chance to grow and develop creatively. It is in fact one the reasons Stone is a musician today. Seeing Queensryche live is proof positive that the world and our children stand to lose too much that can be derived from music programs, so they must be kept going, period. More...
Metal Injection has just posted an exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of SUICIDE SILENCE's new video 'Bludgeoned To Death'.
During the segment, the band is also interviewed discussing a wide variety of topics including the band's popularity on MySpace, debuting on the Billboard charts, dealing with poor reviews in magazines and drinking with UNEARTH and DARKEST HOUR.

Swedish industrial metallers ENGEL have completed work on the promo videos for the songs 'Casket Closing' and 'Next Closed Door'. After a storming set at the prestigious Get In The Ring event in London, the band flew to Belgrade, Serbia the next morning to start filming the two videos.
Produced by Ivan Colic and Josip Colic at CODE (TYPE O NEGATIVE, DEATHSTARS, SYMPHONY X, MOONSPELL), and Rock The Nation, the band are very pleased with the outcome.
Says guitarist Niclas Engelin: “We got to Serbia/Belgrade in the afternoon, tired from the day before gigging in London so we weren’t quiet up for a video shoot, let alone two! But as soon as we meet up with Stanimir and the crew from Rock The Nation it felt like we were really beginning to fire it up. The scripts they’d written were hand in hand with the lyrics/music for Casket Closing and Next Closed Door." More...

Swedish metallers AEON have issued the following update:
"It feels like its time to make up our minds about our drummer situation. We have now decided to give Nils [Fjellström] a real second chance. We have been playing together with him for about seven weeks now since he got back home and he is showing a very strong will to make this happen.
"And what about his other bands?
"Yes, he is still playing drums in other bands and so on, but that was never the main reason we kicked him out in the first place. With some proper future planning and his strong will to make this work, we are sure it will.
"So horns up and lets welcome Nils back in the band."
AEON's latest CD, "Rise to Dominate" was released in the U.S. on September 4 via Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2005's "Bleeding the False" (Unique Leader) was recorded at Empire Studio and contains "twelve tracks of technical death metal," according to a posting on the band's web site. The CD was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY) at Unisound Studios.
CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster previously stated about AEON: "AEON's musicianship is among the best in death metal, but their songwriting is what truly sets them apart. It's rare to find a death metal band that is simultaneously crushingly brutal and infectiously catchy. AEON is one of those rare bands!"
Dutch symphonic metallers EPICA check in with the following update:
"After having had a couple of weeks of rest we were very much hoping that Simone’s (Simons - vocals) situation would have improved already. Unfortunately the last MRSA test was still positive and also the infections still haven’t stopped completely. We have the feeling Simone’s health is improving but unfortunately not enough yet. We cannot risk the health of Simone and therefore, with pain in our hearts, we cannot come to Mexico and Colombia again. Also two of our three shows in the UK are cancelled for this reason. It’s still impossible for Simone to make long trips. As you can imagine we feel really bad about this, especially since our Mexican/Colombian tour was already postponed once before, but we also hope you understand and respect our decision on this. You all have our word that we will come back as soon as possible to make up for all this. Unfortunately at this moment we just can’t tell when this will be but we hope before the end of this year."
Surprised at the claim posted today on Lambgoat.com (“ARSIS is heavily rumored to have broken up”), founding member/guitarist/ lead vocalist James Malone responds:
"While is it true that we had to leave the EXODUS tour early to take care of some personal business at home, Arsis is NOT breaking up. We will be meeting up with SKELETONWITCH in Dallas this Sunday to resume the headlining portion of our tour. I sincerely apologize to any fans that came to see us in the cities that we were unable to play; I promise that we will make it up to you guys. Our new album, We Are The Nightmare, will be released April 15th through Nuclear Blast Records and we plan to be on tour all throughout the rest of the year. As of today, you can check out the title track from the new album on our MySpace page.”
Produced by Zeuss (AGNOSTIC FRONT, HATEBREED, MUNICIPAL WASTE) at Planet Z Studios in Massachusetts and mastered by Alan Douches (KATAKLYSM, UNEARTH, SHADOWS FALL), the track listing for We Are The Nightmare is as follows: 'We Are The Nightmare', 'Shattering The Spell', 'Sightless Wisdom', 'Servants To The Night', 'Failing Winds Of Hopeless Greed', 'Overthrown', 'Progressive Entrapment', 'A Feast For The Liar’s Tongue', 'My Oath To Madness', 'Failure’s Conquest'
We Are The Nightmare will be released with a bonus 45-minute DVD that includes the band’s time in the studio, off-stage antics, and some general “goofing around”.

The band are holed up at Red Devil Recording in Stoughton, MA with Rich Spillberg (former WARGASM guitarist) handling the production duties alongside Meliah Rage mainman Anthony Nichols.
"As some of you might know we recently parted ways with vocalist Paul Souza," says Nichols, "The only reason for the split is that Paul's schedule makes it difficult for him to tour. We are presently working on a new record and have plans for some summer 2008 touring. Anyone interesed in the position can contact us thru our MySpace page or via our website. If you have already sent an email feel free to try again as we might have missed a few in the shuffle." More...

The resurging Chicago Blackhawks Hockey team has no bigger fan than Al Jourgensen, the "Mayor of Chicago's Underground," the godfather of the industrial music scene, and founder and lead singer of the legendary rock band Ministry. As the 2007/2008 Blackhawks team makes its push for the 2008 playoffs, its fans now have another great sports anthem, courtesy of Al and his co-conspirators in Ministry. "Keys To The City," a rock anthem sure to inspire Blackhawks fans worldwide, will debut on March 5, 2008. As part of the debut, 200 lucky fans of Ministry and the Blackhawks will win tickets to see the March 5 game.
Born in Cuba and having immigrated to the U.S. at the age of two, Jourgensen was raised in Colorado and Chicago, settling in the Windy City in the late 1970s. As a youth, Al would attend Chicago Blackhawks Hockey games watching from the upper balcony at the old Chicago Stadium. After founding the industrial metal rock band in 1980, and as the band gained popularity, Al graduated to season tickets in the main bowl. Living now in El Paso, TX, Al still gets back to Chicago from time to time to watch his beloved Blackhawks and is a worldwide evangelist for the team, often sporting his Blackhawks jersey on tour.
Last fall, as the buzz began to build around the new, young Blackhawks team, Jourgensen decided he wanted to add to the momentum. In his studios rehearsing for their farewell tour, Al picked up on a guitar riff that hadn't made his final album and started building what would become "Keys to the City," a sports rock anthem that he presented as a gift to the Wirtz family and the Chicago Blackhawks in December of 2007. The Blackhawks have since embraced the song as a great opportunity to reach out to a new generation of Blackhawks fans; a worthy companion to the team's official theme song, "Here Come The Hawks."
"The Chicago Blackhawks RULE!" said Al Jourgensen. "I am honored to be a part of the history and legend of one of hockey's Original Six. I hope 'Keys to The City' inspires some awesome fights on the ice."
Although containing trademark intensity and guitar riffs, "Keys to the City" is less a traditional Ministry song, but more a classic sports anthem in structure. Built around a drum/bass line that recalls Garry Glitter's "Rock n' Roll Pt 2," the song is a rallying cry for Blackhawk fans. Name checking the past Hawk greats like Hull, Mikita, Esposito and Savard, the song celebrates the resurgence of the Blackhawks and the quest to bring home the Stanley Cup to Chicago. It is already popular among the young Blackhawks players upon which the team is building its future championships.
Al Jourgensen will travel to Chicago for the March 5 debut of the song. After a day of media interviews supporting the song and Ministry's farewell tour, which comes to Chicago's House of Blues in early May, Jourgensen and his wife will be the guest of the Blackhawks at the game that night and will participate in game festivities. As part of the day's promotions, 200 fans of Ministry and the Blackhawks will get free tickets to the televised March 5 home game against the Anaheim Ducks. Details on how to win the tickets will be posted at ChicagoBlackhawks.com. "Keys to the City" will be available for download via iTunes, and as a link from ChicagoBlackhawks.com, starting March 5. Proceeds from the song will benefit the Blackhawks charities. To purchase tickets to the March 5 Blackhawks game, visit ChicagoBlackhawks.com.
HAIL OF BULLETS, featuring former PESTILENCE/ASPHYX singer Martin van Drunen and GOREFEST drummer Ed Warby, have entered Excess studios in Rotterdam, Holland to begin recording their debut album for a May release via Metal Blade Records. The band have issued the following studio update from Warby:
"As we're entering the final stages of recording our full length album for Metal Blade Records, we thought we'd share some choice footage of the proceedings. First up is a four-minute glimpse of yours truly beating the shit out of his drums. You can almost see that one crash break! The song I'm doing here is one of the more brutal ones (well, they all are, I guess), with some cool fills and stuff to spice up the umta-umta onslaught. I think I broke an average of 3-4 sticks per song during this session. The forests weep..." More...

San Francisco, CA wrecking ball APIARY has put up a new pre production track entitled "Borrowed Teeth, Borrowed Claws" on their myspace page here. The album was recorded in early February and is currently being mixed. The song is the first to feature new singer Makh Daniels, guitarist Chris Brock, bassist Tyler Jensen and drummer Dan Sneddon.
Guitarist Chris Brock comments, "This is a rough demo of "Borrowed Teeth, Borrowed Claws" we did at our new bassist Tyler's house a little while ago. Its rough around the edges and not polished, but we think it rocks. Our new album sounds like the end of Robocop 2, only its Murphy taking 100 hits of Nuke and killing Cain, Lewis, OCP and the rest of Delta City. We are proud and cant wait for you all to hear it. Enjoy the demo!"

"TACERE has broken up with their Finnish record label Suomen Musiikki Oy/SM Records because of a lack of mutual interests and enthusiasm to take the band to a further level. And so TACERE is now 'on open waters,' so to say, and looking for a new main label (some of the international contracts are still valid if the band wishes so).
"The live line-up and atmosphere of TACERE has changed. TACERE now has a five-member live line-up and the debut performance of this line-up will be on the next gig (5th of March 2008) More...

The cross-country tour wraps up two weeks prior to the anticipated June 24 album release date.
In the final mixing process at Fascination Street Studios, Sweden by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, KATATONIA), "Lost to the Living" features nine new songs from the cherished doom metal band. Working with Travis Smith (OPETH, SOILWORK, KATATONIA) for the album’s packaging, it promises to be another fan and critic favorite.

"We've continued to refine the music up until the last minute it was recorded and we all feel confident this is the strongest album we've made. As stated previously, the material is a mix of beautiful melancholic leads and harsh dissonant rhythms; despair driven hooks and the overall dark atmosphere you've come to expect from us. After an exhausting recording process, the one thing on all of our minds is the upcoming tour. We can't wait."

Finnish melodic metallers HELION have issued the following update:
"We regret to announce that as of this day, Kimmo Korhonen [guitar] is no longer a part of HELION camp. There were many reasons to this decision, and the band takes full responsibility of this action. Our apologies to Kimmo, we expect to hear great things from you.
"This takes us onward to a dependent decision we have simultaneously made, which is to continue operating as a five-member unit from now on. Simo [Autio, vocals] will take over the guitar duties, and vocal work will be (on some degree) shared between Simo and Jaakko [Kunnas, guitar].
"On the brighter side of life, demo song recordings are in progress. Drum tracks for the five songs are done, so arrangements are pretty much done. Keyboard work will definitely benefit loads from some new stuff Lauri [Heikkinen, keyboards] has acquired lately. Guitars are next to be punched in, as soon as the flu season loosens its grip on the band.
"Some more confirmed titles to tease your appetite: 'Dreamcatcher', 'Tell No Tales', 'Ghost of Winter'… and working titles 'Flight of the Phoenix' and 'Up We Go'.
"We’re working in our Dungeon again, and a quick mix/master session is planned to be ordered from studio later on."
HELION's new lineup:
Simo Autio - Vocals and Guitar
Jaakko Kunnas - Vocals and Guitar
Lauri Heikkinen - Keyboards
Ville Kankaanpää - Bass
Leo Kunnas - Drums

SIXX: A.M., the new band featuring MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx, will postpone its spring tour "due to unforeseen circumstances and will most likely hit the road in the summer of 2008," according to a statement released by the group.
SIXX: A.M. recently let fans vote at VoteSixxAM.com on which cities the group should play in. Those votes have now been counted and will be instrumental in determining which markets the band visits in the future.
Sixx wrote and recorded an album under the name SIXX: A.M. with longtime friends James Michael and D.J. Ashba and has resisted the idea of turning the project into an actual band. But Sixx told The Pulse of Radio that may all be changing. "It seems that people have been able to really feel that it's a band, they really feel that it's something that they can get behind and they can go, 'You know, I really support these guys in what they're doing,'" he said. "It's interesting 'cause we never planned on playing live together, and then we played live together, and that went off so well that I think we accidentally started a band."
Rumors initially surfaced that SIXX: A.M. would tour in February, although Sixx shot down those reports. The project has only played live once so far, last fall at a Utah radio festival.
The SIXX: A.M. album serves as the "soundtrack" to Sixx's recently published book, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star".
Twenty-five percent of Sixx's royalties from "The Heroin Diaries" goes to Running Wild In The Night, a charity he established in conjunction with Covenant House to rescue homeless and runaway youth from the streets.
Swedish metallers OPETH will perform on the 21st anniversary Schizoid Boat March 8-9, 2008 in honor of Mellotronen's birthday. The party will take place over 40 hours on the largest ferry on the Baltic Sea, the Silja Symphony, a 204-meter luxury cruiser equipped with sauna and swimming pool facilities, cabins complete with showers, a shopping galleria, 8-10 bars and restaurants, and apart from the fantastic lineup of bands, there will also be an international music convention in the conference area, which is over 1000 square meters.
The ferry will be leaving at 17:00 on Saturday, March 8, and will be returning to Stockholm 09:30 on Monday, March 10, with a seven-and-half-hour stop in Helsinki, during which a mini film festival will be held on the boat by Klubb Super 8 (for those wishing to remain onboard).
Commented OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt: "We rehearsed today. Did a cool jazzy re-arrangement of an ol' 'classic.' Gonna be fun! Playing a new song as well. Actually it's my favourite to play in the bunch we're doing that night. We'll play in a big-ass galleria. That will be a first, and probably a last too. We need your support, even though it's a warm up gig in many ways, I can't wait and we'll be 'cocked and loaded.' There's so much else going on… Nathalie, who sings on our new record 'Watershed', will be there performing original songs with Axe and Mendez among others. Emma Nordenstam will be there. Club Super 8 will be there…. great! They specialize in forgotten artifacts from the Swedish underground film scene. Lots of B-movies, soft porn, thrillers and all sorts of stuff! Lovely! Many of my friends are coming, Steven Wilson is coming (not playing…I think). I think it's going to be like a two day party of gigantic measures. I can't wait! Hope you can come too guys! Seriously!" The following press release has been announced:
Finally, after numerous line-up changes through the years, all original Killing Joke members reunite for new album and world tour.
Drummer Paul Ferguson rejoins the line up for the first time since 1987 enabling a whole new generation of fans to see Killing Joke's legendary original formation. Diehard fans have been waiting for this moment for two decades!
Bassist Martin 'Youth' Glover also steps back into the live arena after a near 15 year hiatus, having not played live with Killing Joke since 1994's Pandemonium tour.
The tour will see Killing Joke take up a two night residency in most venues offering a different set on each evening. On the first night, they will play their first two albums in their entirety, 1980's self-titled album followed by the album What's This…For!. Their second performance in each city will treat fans to 1994's Pandemonium and the Island Records singles of '79 to '80.
Once described by Ferguson as 'the sound of the earth vomiting', Killing Joke is anthemic and grandiose in it's evocation of nightmare visions. Taking a sarcastic jab at authority and perceived reality to a sonically charged mixture of post punk and metal, Killing Joke's heavy guitars and pounding tribal drums conjure a primitive atmosphere of doom, gloom and resistance.
Notorious for their use of inflammatory imagery, a backlash against a world they perceived as ever more materialistic, unjust and conservative, Killing Joke, railed against the establishment and created a unique sound from their very conception.
Ironically, in the current musical climate with it's obsession with rehashing eighties sounds, the '80s saw Killing Joke really pushing music forward, incorporating danceable elements with aggressive, grinding guitars and thumping drums. With elements of proto-techno rock, their post apocalyptic vision has inspired bands as diverse and influential as NIRVANA, MINISTRY, NINE INCH NAILS, FOO FIGHTERS, SOUNDGARDEN and GODFLESH. Killing Joke have always been and continue to be more than just a band.
Godfathers of post-punk, Killing Joke return with their eagerly anticipated new album to coincide with their world tour. Album release date TBC. More...
