Wintersun Cancels All Upcoming Show Dates

Finnish band Wintersun has issued the following announcement about canceling all upcoming show dates:

"There has come again unexpected problems with technology, which will make finishing the "Time" album even more harder than it has been. Which will delay it even more. There..s also some personal problems concerning my apartment.

"Because of all the problems, I have fallen under a serious amounts of stress, which is sometimes causing me "writer..s blocks". This album making is now turned into such a "risky business", that I have no choise, but to cancel Summerbreeze and Bloodstock.

"The thing is, the album has to be done first, before we can play any shows. Playing just old songs after many years isn..t something we want to do and what probably no one wants to see.

"After the album has been mixed, I need to mix again a "backuptrack livemix" (of the synths&orchestrations). Then we have to of course practise the new songs and arrange them into "live format" (especially mine and Teemu..s guitar parts). We also need to update our humble live gear. More...

Vreid To Join Pestilence On European Tour

Vried will be joining Pestilence on their European tour in April. Hváll of Vreid commented on this development:

"Pestilence is one of those dinosaurs that will never die. They have been away for 15 years, but are now back stronger than ever. Back in the early 90’s Pestilence, Death and Carcass were top notch in my book, and songs like ‘Out of the Body’, ‘Twisted Truth’ and ‘Parracide’ are timeless classics. Some weeks ago we were asked to join the Pestilence reunion European tour as special guests – this is a great honour for us.

"We have just finished a tremendous European tour with Kampfar and Iskald. We did not know what to expect as this was a headliner tour, but the response was amazing. The venues were crowded, the audience gave us killer feedback, and the shows in London, Paris and Bischofswerda were some of the highlights. The new songs were working out very well live, and the live set these days is without doubt the strongest set ever.

"The Skogstur was the first part of the Milorg tour 09. The second part will start at the Inferno festival in Oslo, and from there we go to London with Pestilence. The Pestilence tour will once again bring us to the great rock cities of Paris and London, as well as new venues in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

Here are the tour dates featuring Vreid with Pestilence: More...

Sarke Signs To Indie Recordings

Indie Recordings recently announced the signing of debut act Sarke. The band features no one else than Sarke (Khold, Tulus, Old Man's Child and Sensa Anima) and Nocturno Culto from the mighty Darkthrone.

Sarke might sound like a new name, and in fact it is, but this grim story has more pages than one first might think. Formed in 2008 by its namesake Sarke, who has spread his angry art through Khold, Tulus, Old Man's Child and Sensa Anima, Sarke is a mesmerizing journey through dark and soothing soundscapes, inspired by legends like Mayhem, Slayer, Darkthrone, Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Death, Motorhead and Kreator.

For this musical quest, Sarke wanted to create music that has inspired him since he got into the extreme metal scene, and thus Nocturno Culto from the mighty Darkthrone was brought on board, making the core of the project complete. All music and lyrics are written by Sarke, but adding Nocturno's legendary voice to these songs, has without a doubt added another dimension to the grimness.

The debut album, "Vorunah," was recorded in November, and even though the album was recorded in old-fashioned 70's style to get the true vibe of the music, the sound is brutal, fresh and up to date.

"Vorunah" is produced by Sarke with Lars-Erik Westby and is set to a April 6th release for Norway, April 27th in Europe. A U.S. and rest of world release date is yet to be announced.

In a statement Sarke comments the signing: "I want to thank Indie Recordings for supporting my ideas with this band since day one and to Nocturno Culto for joining me; together we have created a monster."

The line-up is: More...

"Well, that's all folks! The final "Eternal Domination" show is now behind us! The two years since our debut album's release have been as packed with shows as it was possible, and we feel confident we have managed to promote it fairly well, going on tour with bands such as Rotting Christ, Massacre and Onslaught. It was a musical journey we will never forget, something we owe to all of you!

"Last night was great as usual and we want to sincerely thank all the people who attended the show and gave us such a good time. Thanx also to all metalheads who attended one of our shows these past two years! Your feedback makes us stronger. Special thanx go to certain friends of ours that haven't missed but very few Suicidal Angels concerts in Athens; you know who you are!

"Now we go on as planned! In less than a week we're flying to Germany to record our second album with producer RD Liapakis, and then we're off to roam across Europe! More on the scheduled tour soon - stay tuned!

"Before we wrap this up, we want to thank mighty Dew-scented, for giving such a good show last night and for being so cool guys. We really can't wait to meet them again! Es war schoen euch kennenlernen zu haben. Auf wiedersehen!"

Alice In Chains Posts An Update from Down Under

Alice In Chains posted an update from Australia earlier this week, where they arrived to take part in the Soundwave Festival, including a humorous angle on hotel guests' reactions to bands and road crew arriving at their hotel:

"We arrived in Brisbane two days before the first show, which gave us all a little time to shake off the jet lag and get acclimated to the insanely humid conditions here. Jerry, William, Sean and I went to a Koala sanctuary the day after we got in, and being able to check out and feed koalas and kangaroos was a cool experience to start things off with. Mike opted to stay back at the hotel and check out a few Coronas instead of a koala, but in his own way he interacted with wildlife too, as our hotel was absolutely overrun by nearly 100 band & crew guys also playing the festival. It can be amusing sometimes to watch other guests react to a bunch of dirtbag musicians sullying up the hotel, but this was off the charts. Usually it’s just us doing the sullying, but here in Brisbane it was us times 10, and all the poor businessmen and families caught in the middle of the tattoos and greasy hair and black t-shirts looked like they’d rather ask the concierge for a canister of pepper spray than directions to the zoo.

"With a day off and a small dose of Australia in us, we all moved on to day # 1 of the Soundwave Festival. Brisbane had been getting pounded with intermittent rain showers since we landed, but not long after we arrived at the festival site the skies cleared up and it turned out to be a nice afternoon. The two main stages are located side by side, so within a couple of minutes of one band finishing, the next band was up and running right next door. There were also 4 more stages scattered throughout the site, so there was always a band playing for the fans to check out. There’s something about a festival that brings out a handful of colorful characters too, and today was no exception, as I saw a guy and a girl decked out in full Viking regalia. I’m not really sure what that was all about, but I enjoyed it. More...

Dave Mustaine Issues Open Letter To Metallica

Dave Mustaine has issued the following open letter to Metallica regarding their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

"Droogies!

"Metallica as you know has been selected to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So, it is with much respect that I say 'congratulations!'

"I also had the nice surprise of hearing that they called to invite me to the pre-ceremony party the night before, and then to the actual ceremony. Unfortunately as you all know, I will be winding down our European tour with Judas Priest so I will be unable to attend.

"However, I'd like to say to Lars and James, 'I am so very proud of all you have accomplished. I will continue to pray for the very best for you and your families as I always have.'

"Thank you for the invitation and thinking of me.

Massacre Announces Possible New Band Members

Florida death metal band Massacre, who saw the exodus of all band members except the vocalist, has issued the following update about seeking out new members:

"Well it seems that both the drummer and bassist positions may have now been secured for the 'New' MASSACRE line up.

"Kam Lee has spoken to both bassist Dave Pybus (CRADLE OF FILTH) and to drummer Tony Laureno (NILE/DIMMU BORGIR) and both have shown a great interest and desire to join with Kam & MASSACRE to bring forth the new album in 2010.

"Kam is very pleased and excited to have these two fantastic musicians and great fans of MASSACRE interested in helping make a 'new' MASSACRE album a reality. And also - it seems that Mirai (SIGH/NECROPHAGIA) has agreed to help out by creating and playing some very eerie keyboard intros and outros for the album as well. His fantasic musical skills and insight is both an overwhelming welcomed thrill and very exciting addition as well.

"However - the guitarist positions are still being held open for auditions! As of now - several guitarist have already sent in several audition songs and riffs, while others are still being waited on for their submissions. Kam is trying to be both fair and to be very selective with who he shall pick to fill the position of guitarist! As Kam feels this is both a very important - as well as a very crucial decision to make. And is not a position to take lightly... More...
