Today Cvlt Nation is hosting an exclusive post of “Amaranth,” a crushing exercise of sonic doom riffery and massive amplification from Richmond, Virginia’s Windhand. Check out the song at this location.
The track comes from "Reflection Of The Negative," the band’s upcoming split with city/scene-mates Cough, slated to drop this April through Relapse Records. The following press release was also issued about the split:
"On 'Reflection Of The Negative,' Cough leads off, delivering a characteristically electrifying down-tuned epic track, while their brethren in Windhand serve up two brand new epic songs for their half of the dirge. While the track listing bears merely three tracks, this monstrous split bears nearly forty minutes of premier doom at its absolute gloomiest.
"The album acts as a precursor for both bands’ upcoming full-lengths, which are both currently being conceived. The split will see release on April 16th in North America, preceded by international street dates of April 12th (Germany/Benelux) and April 15th (UK/World). Preorders for the album including digital and CD formats, as well as a super-limited mailorder-only black/white vinyl combo can be placed here." More...
French black metallers Aosoth have premiered a track from their new full-length album entitled "IV: Arrow In Heart," coming out April 16th worldwide on Agonia Records.
Check out "An Arrow in Heart" in the player below. Pre-orders are available at this location, and the band comments:
"IV: Arrow In Heart holds yet a bigger spiritual meaning: We've spent such a huge amount of time on defining a darker identity, yet open to a wider range of influences. Those tracks still haunt us, as delivering them was a painful and excruciating experience, and left some of us even physically wounded... Which gives that album even more of a spiritual value, as it involved a form of sacrifice. This fourth full-length release is without a doubt a great step forward for us in term of music writing, and sound."
The album's track listing is as follows:
1. An Arrow in Heart
2. One With The Prince With A Thousand Enemies
3. Temple of Knowledge
4. Under The Nails and Fingertips
5. Broken Dialogue 1
5. Broken Dialogue 2
6. Ritual Marks of Penitence More...

Cavity Records has announced April 20th as the release date for a special split LP between Across Tundras and Lark's Tongue.
"Consisting of two absolutely epic songs from each American band, the Across Tundras/Lark's Tongue split LP is the first collaboration between these two groups. Across Tundras was born on the Western High Prairie and has been sighted recently in the hills north of Nashville, TN.
"Countless mysterious audio artifacts and sonic expeditions have been made by the un-herd collective since their inception in 2003, both delighting and bewildering musical excavators who have encountered the aural, physical, and meta-evidence of this pastoral beast.Hailing from the Midwest, Lark's Tongue formed in 2010 of seasoned travelers informed by all manners of cosmic pursuits. They conjure heavy, layered psychedelia with an emphasis on harmony and narrative, atop beguiling squalls of guitar, shimmering keys, and a thick low-end.
"This split marks the coming-together of two bands with di?erent styles but similar influences, and will give the listener visions of Panoramic Country Crush, Cosmic Blues, Vintage Psychedelia, Terrestrial Drone, and Rural Heaviness. The priest dream is a siren song to suffer, illuminating the pathways where fear and bliss become one. What starts with pleasure endures in alarm, and only your eyes can look straight at the sun..." Hungary's Insane has checked in with the following announcement about lineup changes and gearing up for new live activity:
"Winter slowly comes to an end and as spring approaches, our plans and ideas are getting more and more concrete so we would like to give away some details about what you can expect from us this year.
"Our autumn/winter tour was finished on 13 January in Veszprém and had left a very positive feeling in us. A lot of new friends, huge parties, great experiences, good memories. Of course we have learned a lot too, because you know what the saying says… Very big thank you goes to the two fill-in guitarists Gábor Domán and Gergo Kollár. They had only a few weeks to learn the setlist before the tour started, but after a few gigs they just got better and less stage fright, haha. Gábor will continue to remain in the band, but we part our ways with Gergo and here we would like to thank him for the past 4 months, and say good luck with his band, Still With Soul.
"At the same time we`d like to introduce Tibor 'Taki' Takács as the new guitarist of Insane! Taki has repeatedly toured the country with his former band Jackpot, so he is pretty battle-hardened, so with him in the band we finally feel that the line-up is complete again. As you probably already know, in March a new tour will kick off with our new friends, CsakazértiS, and with some exceptions there will be Apey And The Pea at most of the stations as a regular guests. For more details please check out the events on facebook! More...

The U.S. and a couple of other nations celebrate Black History Month, which was created back in February of 1926 to coincide with the birthdays of Abe Lincoln and Frederick Douglass - and to highlight the achievements of noteworthy black citizens and events shaping black history. It may be February, but here at Metal Underground we feature metal from all ethnicities on any given week.
But in keeping with the Black History Month theme, today we will explore three groups that are composed partially or entirely of all black members. The aggression and power of metal is a worldwide phenomena that crosses all genders, races and creeds. Something about metal just touches your soul, blacks and non-blacks alike, connecting you to this style of music that you just instinctively know you were born to listen to. More...

Commented Smith: "I’m delighted to of been offered the throne to drum for Raven Lord. I can’t wait to get in the rehearsal room with these guys and hit the road to play some kick ass shows I’d like to thank all the guys in the band and the management for this opportunity…"
Ex-drummer Larry Paterson states: "It is meant as no disrespect to any of you at all – and I wish great success for everybody. To cut a long story short, things are pretty tough right now as I have another band, a book and a documentary to make. All of this is running on a very tight schedule which WILL definitely get in the way of Raven Lord…”
Singer and bandleader Csaba Zvekan commented, “I’m saddened to see Larry go from Raven Lord but if dates are clashing there is not much any of us can do. The good thing is me and Larry Paterson will continue working on another band project called Exorcism which is expected to be released in 2014. Well, you know what they say; the show must go on! And with Summer shows in the pipeline we had to act fast and find another drummer as a permanent solution. Rich Smith is highly motivated to be the next Lord drummer and with Power Quest calling it the quits it was obvious that he was available for grabs. We took the opportunity and welcome Rich Smith to Raven Lord.” More...

"Greetings!! 2013 is a special year for Vengeful as it marks the 10 year anniversary of the band and the composition of our first songs. Tempted, Sentenced, Cold Ways and Karma were all written in 2003.
"It took us 4 years to complete our first album Karma that was met with mixed reviews. Some dubbed it Tech Death, some Old School death metal and we even got the Deathcore tag by association because our buddy Alex 'Grind' Pelletier (Despised Icon) played on half of the album.
"As mentioned before, we re-recorded the drums to all of the tracks from our 1st album during the sessions for our latest double-album Vengeful. That was in November 2010. 26 months and several personnel changes later, we finally comeback with the completed version of those re-recordings. More...
