Formed in 2009 in Barcelona, Spanish sludge band Tort has finally released its debut self-titled album. The band is features ex-Lords of Bukkake guitarist Sergio Sancho and was recorded in Moontower studios. Check out a video upload of the song "Cannibals Of Ma'Arrat" below, one of many of the songs from the release featured over on YouTube. Also check out an older tune, "Firerose Vampira," over on MySpace.
Tongue in cheek thrash metal veterans Lawnmower Deth has announced a special headline show at The Garage in London, England, which will take place on December 15th. A message from the band reads as follows:
"Crikey it's been a fair old while since I've been over to this dusty corner of the Internet and apologies to all who dwell on MySpace should be given for such neglect (Join us of Facebook... hint hint… it's so much easier to post stuff over there!).
"Anyway, just to let you know that we are doing a headline slot at the Garage in London for X-mas 2012! That's loads of time for you to save your pennies and get a ticket.
"So far the mighty Beholder have been confirmed as support but there will be others added soon, we hope to make this a strong line-up as we don't get out often these days, the day pass at the clinic is a rare event so we want to make the most of it.
"Also don't forget to come over and say hello if your off to Hammerfest next month… we are on after Anthrax and we will be the band who are fast asleep onstage 'cause it will be stupid o'clock in the morning by that time!
"Cheers for now"
American glam metal legends Motley Crue has entered drummer Tommy Lee's Atrium Studio today to begin recording a brand new song, their first new material since the 2008 studio album, "Saints of Los Angeles." A message from bass player Nikki Sixx reads as follows:
"Mötley Crüe and the Crüeheads have pretty much taken over Vegas the last few weeks... It really feels like we're riding the positive chaos right now. We just did a huge new photo shoot, were finishing up a brand new Crüe song for summer (that will lead to an full album after), European headline shows on festivals and in arenas too, but none of this would happen without you guys. Thank you."

Talk about a broadening of multicultural horizons. Through a stirring new concept album (reviewed here) worthy of mention in a future "Global Metal" sequel, the members of Dutch act Heidevolk have paid creative and passionate tribute to the history of their regional ancestors. As the release of "Batavi" drew nearer, guitarist Reamon "Bomenbreker" Bloem phoned me to provide some background on the album's subject matter. The discussion ultimately centered on the endless diversity of the metal genre at large, revealing some considerably greater musical depth and breadth than the superficial "folk metal" label with which Heidevolk tends to be stuck. The line-up was picked perfectly for this tour, from the bands abilities to bring unique heavy metal and modern hybrid influences to a big audience and worked the crowd. As Machine Head’s older fans and Darkest Hour and Suicide Silence’s younger fans filed in, some still excited from nearby Mardi Gras parades, the generations mixed, mingled, sized each other up, and eventually socialized as they waited to see two great bands opening for one of metal’s best known bands ever. The mood at Siberia was a lively one, even though it was a rainy, humid Wednesday night. As I stood outside, I stared at Jucifer’s RV and thought about how the heaviest Southern duo could live on the road for over a decade. Maybe the droning sound of their music reflected the droning sound of the road under their wheels. Maybe the crashes of the cymbals were the potholes and bumps they encountered. Whatever it was like in there, I was glad that that RV was in the ragged streets of New Orleans tonight, sitting silently under the orange streetlights while bicyclists, cops cars, and empty Mardi Gras floats from earlier parades passed it by. Things would not be silent for much longer. More...
New Jersey black metallers Abazagorath have bumped up the release date for their new EP to February 27th, 2012 through NoVisible Scars Records. A press statement from the band states that "Due to things moving at a faster pace than expected, and the EP's recent appearances among blog sites and other file sharing locations, it was decided that it would be best to release the EP at the end of this month. We can absolutely assure the metal community that our first stand alone release since 'Sacraments' will deliver beyond exceptions and be well worth the wait!"
The band had originally planned on an early April release to co-incide with a new batch of tour dates across the Eastern U.S. Recorded at BS1 studios in Philadelphia, PA and engineered by Chris Grigg (Woe), the new mini album contains 5 songs and runs for just over 20 minutes. More...

Last year, Children of Bodom earned a gold record in its native Finland for selling 10,000 copies of "Relentless Reckless Forever” on its release date. Add this to career sales in their country and the group has sold over 250,000 records, making them one of Finland’s best selling artists of all time. In America, 250,000 units will get them halfway to a gold record; that is if we were counting individual recordings. Still, the group has found its way to the ears of enough Americans to warrant a headlining tour in celebration of the group’s 15th birthday.
Children of Bodom has spent the better part of the new millennium on the road in America, supporting some of metal’s biggest acts. I saw Children of Bodom twice in 2004. Once, they supported Lamb of God and Fear Factory. Another time they went out with Ripper Owens and Iced Earth. Eluveitie, Revocation and Threat Signal have assumed the warm-up spots so familiar to the melodic death/power metal act. Several of Emo’s patrons wore BLS shirts as a reminder of Children of Bodom’s 2010 showing in Austin with Black Label Society. More...
