The band states: "The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that has heard it thinks it's our best album to date. The red thread lyric-wise on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in the late Sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we're not describing the happy times of the Sixties: We give you the 'Dark Hours'. Musically, it's more straight-forward and faster than ever. The songs are filled with energy and great hooks."
A free download of the first single “Judas Must Die” is available at this location.
I wasn't so sure from the initial announcement that the Nine Inch Nails and Janes Addiction tour was a done deal, but apparently it is. Trent Reznor has confirmed it and stated that tour dates will be announced shortly.
The tour, which will celebrate the band's 20th anniversary, is expected to go worldwide, but with less production than their Lights In The Sky tour. Nine Inch Nails is expected to go on hiatus for an unknown duration after the tour.
Heavy Artillery Records has issued the following statement about signing French death metal act The Seven Gates:
"Marching into the new year with guns blazing, HEAVY ARTILLERY is pleased to announce the addition of French death metal masters THE SEVEN GATES to its roster of exclusive artists. Following the release of two critically acclaimed demos, THE SEVEN GATES prepare to unleash their debut album "Angel of Suffering" in the United States on May 12th and in Europe on June 2nd 2009.
"Born from the ashes of revered French underground metal acts Daemonium, Akhenaton and late 80’s French death metal pioneers Mutilated, THE SEVEN GATES began their assault in 2006 with the release of their “All is In All” demo. In 2007 the band followed up with a self-released EP entitled Ghenna’s Sword, gaining THE SEVEN GATES praise from the European metal press and earning them a spot on several “Best of 2007” lists in many of the Europe’s leading metal publications. That same year, the bands’ first tour evoked frenzied interest from fans and further praise from the press, rousing the attention of New York’s HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS who quickly offered the band a place on their roster.
"Angel of Suffering delivers 10 tracks of old-school death metal with an endless supply of hooks, masterful musicianship and a sufficient dose of pure fucking evil, sure to please fans of early Deicide, Morbid Angel and Entombed."

Avery's Descent, a metal from Montreal, Canada, are in the midst of pounding out their first studio album after the band has been in the mix of the Montreal metal scene for the past four years.
The band was recently seen this past weekend playing a show for a hometown crowd and sounded absolutely destructive with a great stage presence to boot. They are currently recording in the studio of Uplift Productions and the man at the reigns of that operation is none other than Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope, The Monarchy). Their album is set to launch in the summer of 2009.

Swedish metallers The Legion have issued the following statement about the release of their upcoming album:
"We are proud to announce the release of our third album “A Bliss to Suffer” through Listenable Records on the 27th of April. Entirely produced by us band members ourselves at Art Decay Studio during a series of sessions in 2007 and 2008, this onslaught displays the relentless speed and severe brutality of previous efforts blended together with strangely atmospheric and epic elements, taking our lethal concoctions to new heights. We wouldn’t brag without a good reason – this thing will kill you.
"In other news, vocalist Martinsson is back as a permanent member after commitments elsewhere, and celebrates the return with a never-ending row of ghastly shrieks all through the album.
"Last but not least, there is now an official The Legion MySpace site up and running at. This is the only MySpace channel with 100% valid and verified information straight from the band. Excerpts from “A Bliss to Suffer” will be available for streaming listening as soon as possible."

Children of Bodom bassist Henri Samuli Seppälä recently conducted an interview with the website Female First in which he states that the band is working on a cover album. Excerpts from the interview are below:
FF: How are you enjoying being in the UK again?
H: Yeah, we love it; it's getting better all the time... when we stated coming here about four years ago it was only in very small places and now it's much bigger. I just came outside and saw the huge line; it's pretty amazing! It's a little grey outside though.
FF: I know it's freezing! It's been snowing too, is it snowing where you've come from?
H: It's freezing there as well yeah, but it's been sunny there too.
FF: Are you going to be releasing any new material this year?
H: Hum, I don't know. I don't know if it's supposed to be a secret... [FF: You can tell us, we won't tell anyone!] there's a plan to release a cover album because we've done a lot of covers in the past; it should be out this fall or next fall.

The new man is Thor Bager of Disintergrated (DK) who only had a week to prepare himself for the first rehearsal. We have just held a rehearsal weekend with him and he has settled quite well into the band already.
"We can also announce that drummer Danni Lyse Jelsgaard has now joined the band on a permanent basis. Work on the new material has already started, and we will concentrate on this over the next few months. New Jersey metal act Dark Empire has revealed that they have parted ways with vocalist Jens Carlsson. A message from the bands guitarist Mark Moliti reads as follows:
"This decision was a long time coming and it was a hard one to make, since Jens is a great dude to work with. With him living in Sweden and the rest of us in the New Jersey, it is impossible to do any kind of gigging, which is something we need to make this band continue. This was a mutual decision and there are no hard feelings at all. We wish Jens the best in his endeavors with Persuader and Savage Circus. As for a replacement, since I am already writing new material, we would like to find one as soon as possible. We're most interested in a singer with an abrasive or hard rock quality to their voice, and of course, must be living in or willing to commute or relocate to the northern New Jersey/NYC area.
"Send any audio or video samples to our MySpace page: www.myspace.com/darkempireband"
A posting from Jens Carlsson himself reads: "After a long consideration, we in the band made the decision for me to step down as singer for Dark Empire. For Matt and the guys to push the band forward, live appearences are essential and the fact that I live in Sweden was becoming a bigger and bigger problem. I also have Persuader and Savage Circus who need attention as well. There are no hard feelings, but something had to be done about the situation. I wish the guys in DE all the best, and you fans out there, keep on rocking!"
Heavy metal legend King Diamond will be a part of the forthcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica video game as a playable character aswell as having the song "Evil" from his old band Mercyful Fate included in the game. Speaking on the game he said: "It's been absolutely amazing to be a part of this Guitar Hero experience. It was quite a trip to re-record the song 'Evil' almost 25 years after the original recording took place. The end result with four out of the five original musicians turned out so much better than I would ever have hoped for. Seeing my animated character take form was totally eerie in a very good way. It's so strange to see yourself animated in such perfect detail - cross bone microphone, Eye necklace and all. This game looks and sounds METAL all the way. HORNS UP!!!"
Drummer Bill of NY metallers, Malstrom, has issued the following update:
"While on downtime dealing with the multiple lineup issues we've been having over the past few months while we retool and re-gear for 2009, I've been working with Malstrom alumnus and co-founder Mike Capasso on a new record he has been writing over the past two years. Today I tracked drums for it, and I can now safely say, it'll be a behemoth of a record when it's completed! We're tracking with Kurt Legee (responsible for tracking our Obligated by Obscurity record, as well as guitarist for the criminally unknown and fantastic rock band System Noise) at his Williamsburg based studio Lucid Production. So far this project is featuring three tracks including a mammoth epic clocking in at over 27 minutes. I'll be passing along more details as this project develops, so stay tuned!"
"In Malstrom related news, we will be announcing some major lineup news hopefully over the course of next month, but for now we can announce we are gearing up to take on 2009 with a vengeance to make up our absence for most of 2008!"

Megadeth are currently touring Europe alongside Judas Priest and Testament as part of this years Priest Feast. Drummer Shawn Drover has checked in with the following update:
"Day two of our two day off break here in Dortmund, Germany and I have to say it is certainly well deserved. It is always beneficial to 'recharge the batteries' which mostly for me just consists of getting a lot of sleep, and watching movies and/or TV shows I have downloaded from my iTunes. I had heard that a TV sitcom called 30 Rock was quite funny from a few different sources, so I purchased five episodes on my iTunes and watched them for the first time last night - I thought they were absolutely hilarious, so now of course I will purchase all the episodes today. For me, being our here in different countries, I crave the thing's I enjoy at home, so things like this bring a big smile to my face."

Here is an official statement from the band:
“We regret to inform our Australian fans and also the fans of the Summer Slaughter tour, that due to various reasons, The Red Shore will no longer be able to participate in the tour. Throughout the last few months we felt that certain circumstances pertaining to the tour did not suit the band and this coupled with some ongoing medical problems with some of our members and some financial constraint simply means that opting out of this tour was the best thing for the band at this point in time.
