Eulogy Recordings has officially signed Years Spent Cold. The New Jersey hardcore/metal band will record their Eulogy debut at The Machine Shop (Lamb Of God) in Hoboken, NJ. The effort will feature roughly eleven tracks and is slated to hit streets in early-summer. You can check out some of their material on their MySpace page.
Uprising Records recently signed Southern California hardcore band Dear Life. This Southern California quintet's debut full-length album, "Framework," is currently set for a spring 2008 release. "Framework" is produced by Roger Camero (No Motiv, The Warriors) and Donny and Danny Phillips (ex-The Warriors) and mixed by Paul Miner (New Found Glory, Death By Stereo). Coupling melodic hooks with thunderous breakdowns, the effort delivers intricate progressive riffs with ferocity and technical precision.
Guitarist Vincent Apostol comments: "We are very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with Uprising and look forward to releasing our debut record. It has been a long road and it is comforting to know that hard work really does pay off. We feel fortunate to be working with such genuine and committed people not only at the label, but in management, booking, and everyone else who continues to help us along the way. It's a big step in the right direction for us and we can't wait to see where it takes us next."
Look for the band on selective dates in March with Comeback Kid, as well as scattered appearances in late March and April, followed by full time touring starting in spring 2008.
JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing recently answered a number of fan questions via his official web site. A few excerpts follow:
Q: How are the Knucklebonz sculptures of you and Glenn Tipton (guitar) coming along? Have you seen the finished product, and do you approve? Are they from the same era as the Rob Halford figure ('80s)? Also is a "Nostradamus" tour with material exclusively from that album played in its entirety still planned? And then a separate "classic" PRIEST tour still planned?
Downing: "I have only seen Rob's statue in its finished state and it 's pretty cool. I am still looking forward to getting mine.
"We will soon be on tour playing songs that many people have been waiting for and also we will be including some tasters from 'Nostradamus'. If all goes well I think it would be pretty cool to do a tour later performing the whole concept album."
Q: How much do you rehearse before a tour? Do you determine the set list before the start of the rehearsals, or do you rehearse a number of songs and compose a set list out of those songs? As I understand (conclusions drawn from various interviews) you're about to play whole of (and nothing but) the new album on the upcoming summer tour. Are you going to perform a new tour with JUDAS PRIEST classics after the "Nostradamus" tour?
Downing: "We try not to over-rehearse so as to keep things fresh, we usually decide on the bulk of the songs before hand but if someone makes a suggestion we will give it a go. For the moment we are planning to tour with classics but with some 'Nostradamus', then possibly tour again playing the entire 'Nostradamus' spectacle."
Q: Do you feel that in the present information society, people require to have new information as soon as possible? With Internet you can present every single step taken forward in the progress of writing a new album. I get the impression that you (JUDAS PRIEST) go the other way: you reveal almost nothing about what's happening. Other bands present almost every step that they make, put new songs onto the web etc. I can't say that it's wrong to be very secret, but it's a contrast to the enormous possibility to present information.
Downing: "Yes, maybe a lot of bands think that doing it that way they get more exposure but I prefer to do it the old way because I remember the excitement that I had when rushing to the store to buy a record that I had been waiting so eagerly for and playing it for the first time. It was such a rush, by giving people updates nearly every day somehow takes the excitement away for me. Also just making the record takes us more hours in the day than we have."

Guitarist Henrik "Heinz" Jacobsen of the Danish death metal band KOLDBORN has issued the following update:
"A few things are going on in the band —we decided to let Morten [Løwe Sørensen] go and get original drummer Rasmus [Salskov] back again. It only took a few rehearsals before we had the first new song nailed — super-cool to have such an awesome band to write with again! We also recruited former HATESPHERE bassist Mikael [Ehlert Hansen] so basically it's the best lineup we could imagine — both musically and personally."
"We are currently writing songs for the follow-up to 'The Uncanny Valley', and so far the songs turned out really really heavy and intense." More...

Commented M. Fabban: "I've decided to dedicate myself to vocals only for this project due to several accidents that obliged me to avoid heavy duty stuff with my right hand. I will continue as a bassist only with ABORYM."
The statement adds: "MALFEITOR wish to thank Nighthorn sincerely for all the gigs played together and for friendship and professionality shown in everything regarding this project. Respect and support go to his bands, HOUR OF PENANCE above all." More...

Finnish symphonic power metallers EXCALION have issued the following update:
"EXCALION is now reahearsing new material and looking for a new record deal as the old one ended succesfully with Sound Riot Records. The band is really enthusiastic for the new songs and can't wait to share them with you!"
EXCALION filmed a video for the song "Wingman" in June 2007 with director Harri Pääkkönen. Watch the clip here.
"Wingman" comes off the group's latest album, "Waterlines", which came out in the U.S. on April 24, 2007 via Ryko Distribution. The follow-up to 2005's "Primal Exhale" was recorded and mixed at Watercastle studio by Arttu Sarvanne.
The band previously stated about the new CD, "The new songs are very mature both musically and lyrically. The whole band has improved a lot since their debut album in 2005 and the vocals of Jarmo Paakkonen are more impressive than ever. The actual music is fully rich in the songwriting and playing; it isn't prog or power metal anymore; there are strong influences of Euro melodic metal and U.S. hard rock. We could say the band found their 'own sound' for now!" More...

Australian metallers, LORD, will film a video for the song "Through the Fire" on March 1 at The Ox Tavern in Wollongong. Says the band, "This will not be a live show. Instead will be a group of us having some drinks and being stupid with the cameras. If you're in the area, come along and bring your LORD shirt!!!"
LORD's new album, "Ascendence", was released in August in Japan through Soundholic Records and in Australia via Modern Invasion Music.
Regarding what the album sounds like, LORD mainman Lord Tim previously said, "Any DUNGEON fans in the house? You won't be disappointed! If DUNGEON were to continue instead of disbanding in 2005, this is the album we would have made next (for all intents and purposes, LORD is DUNGEON: Mark II anyway). It's got all of the things you enjoyed about DUNGEON — fast songs, lots of big catchy choruses, solos galore, amazing drumming and heaps of diversity from song to song, since we're fans of all styles of metal."
