It's not exactly the kind of publicity that I'd want for Metal Underground.com or for metal as a whole, but the question has been eating away at me since first reading about the man arrested for making death threats against Korn and then recently trading emails with the author of this article, who links the timelines of the reported threats made against Korn online (before those made on the FBI's site) to that of the postings and ultimate banning of the infamous Metalunderground.com reader and commenter LordAgony.
Adrian McCoy, of Sacramento, pleaded guilty in federal court last Friday to threatening the band.
The prosecutor told ABC23 that McCoy made threats on a metal underground-related Web site in January of 2006. While metalunderground.com did not confirm if McCoy made threats against Korn on their site, one user using the name, LordAgony, was kicked off the site at that time for making threats against the band, saying he wanted the band destroyed.
The reality is that I have no way of knowing who this Adrian McCoy is. Things look like they are adding up, but the question remains: is Adrian McCoy the LordAgony who posted (and trolled) on Metalunderground.com a couple years ago?
I was, in fact, contacted by the FBI sometime last year regarding "threats made toward someone on Metalunderground.com." They did not state who was making the threats or who the threats were against. I did not think much of it at the time. The call actually seemed a little fishy, so I wasn't even sure it was legit, and I have since misplaced the agents' names. In any case, I told them that I had no other information but the poster's screen name and IP address linked to the posts. No further information was ever requested or furnished (not even the IP addresses). They wouldn't need it if the perpetrator was foolish enough to make such threats on the FBI's web site.
I recently revisted some of LordAgony's comments and did a reverse DNS lookup on several of the IP Addresses, and while some would not resolve completely, most did point to California.
But back to the topic of making threats on the FBI's web site. That's the part that I just don't get, and it leads me to believe this person had really lost touch with reality or was reaching out for help/trying to get caught. Seriously, who goes to the FBI's web site to threaten a band? We could be dealing with a seriously delusional Nathan Gale-type personality here.
I have many reasons for bringing this topic up here on Metalunderground.com. Pure curiosity is a big one. Is Adrian McCoy LordAgony? It's a neat bit of trivia from Metal Underground.com's past at the very least.
I also wanted to assure our readers that their privacy was maintained despite my tongue-in-cheek comment in the comments of this article that "I've sent all server logs to the FBI." Clearly other commenters recognize the animosity shown towards Korn (for their music) by many readers of this site, and my comment was simply in jest. As I said, no information was furnished (or requested) to the FBI or any other branch of law enforcement.
There are a couple morals to this story. First, you are always accountable for your actions, even if you think you are "anonymous." Some people do and say things online that they would never say in person. Even though the chances are slim, just remember you may be called on your words one day. Second, it's a reminder - one that I had to make recently in another thread - that we will not tolerate personal attacks on this site. I try not to be a heavy-handed moderator and I let quite a bit of stuff slide here, but there is a line and crossing it will result in being banned from Metal Underground.com.
Back to my curiosity about the matter. I've been told that Metal Underground.com was mentioned by name on TV broadcasts on this topic, but have not heard any such newscasts directly. If anyone has more information linking Adrian McCoy to Metalunderground.com and/or LordAgony, please send me links by posting them here or via the contact form. Videos of mentions in newscasts would be awesome. I'll offer up a small reward for the best sources reported.
Stay metal, and stay civil! :-) More...
Underoath has been writing material for a new album as of late and will enter the studio next month to track the effort. Lifeforce Records and Lifeforce Records America have announced the addition of Danish metal act THE PSYKE PROJECT to their roster. Their Lifeforce debut "Apnea", which will be released June 30th within Europe and July 8th in North America, was produced by Tue Madsen (Himsa, Raunchy, Mnemic, Aborted, August Burns Red) and demonstrates an overwhelming connection to extreme music and is the epitome of the ever expanding and evolving musical outlook for Lifeforce Records.
"Apnea" is nominated as best Danish hardrock album for the this year Danish Music Awards to be held on Saturday, February 23rd. You can check out the DMA Myspace profile here.
Rasmus Sejersen of The Psyke Project comments: "We are very pleased to announce that we have signed a world wide record deal with the well respected and ground-breaking metal label Lifeforce (Germany/US). We've been listening to Lifeforce artists since we were kids so we are happy to be a part of the family."
Formed in 2001 in Copenhagen, Denmark, THE PSYKE PROJECT has been nominated for four Danish Metal Awards in 2005 (best: album, live act, debut album, web site) as well as having accolades bestowed upon them for previous records by the likes of Terrorizer, Metal Hammer, Rocksound and Kerrang to name a few. Their main motivation for playing this type of music emerges from a profound love for the dark and brutal sound of hardcore and the sincerity and honesty in the statements made by most bands from this scene. THE PSYKE PROJECT seeks to create an intense chaotic sound mixed with heavy riffs and beautiful epic passages.

Lemi, Finland-based heavy metal quartet STAM1NA has topped the Finnish album chart with its third effort, "Raja", which came out on February 13 through Sakara Records. The CD was recorded at Purple Fly studio in the band's hometown. Production duties were handled by Janne Joutsenniemi, whose legendary band STONE was one of the STAM1NA's biggest influences. Miitri Aaltonen, who produced the first two STAM1NA albums, mixed the new CD.
Regarding the band's collaboration with Janne Joutsenniemi, STAM1NA guitarist/vocalist Antti "Hyrde" Hyyrynen previously said, "This is a match made in heaven and a big step for the band. Janne will most certainly bring his own thing to this album. Let's [put] it this way: The mustard machine is still the same but Janne changes our diapers."
Hyyrynen continued: "About the lyrical part I can say that again we search, explore and try both our and boundaries of humanity. During the last few years we have tried our limits and probably gone even beyond them."
STAM1NA was formed in 1996 and has released two albums so far: "Stam1na" (2005) and "Uudet Kymmenen Käskyä" (2006), which landed at No. 3 on the Finnish album chart and received the 2006 Emma award for "Best Metal Album".
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers EXODUS clashed with the in-house security during their headlining performance on February 16, 2008 at The Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois after a fan was allegedly thrown out of the venue "for no good reason."
A Last.fm user by the name of "Fosster3567" describes the incident in the following way: "The last band of the night was well worth the wait. EXODUS caused a huge stir in the Pearl Room. All was fine until about three songs into their set when a fan jumped up on stage and stage-dived. This was fine with the band, they even headbanged next to him. But security felt otherwise and kicked the kid out. EXODUS stopped playing 'Children of a Worthless God' immediately. They shouted at security to let the kid back in and even told the security guard who kicked the kid out to get the fuck out. When they didn't, EXODUS' singer [Rob Dukes] shouted, 'Hey, I'm stage-diving. Kick me the fuck out, big boy.' He jumped into the crowd. When he got back on stage, he commanded the audience all stage-dive. This is when the place turned into total chaos. Audience members were running on stage by the dozen and we were all enjoying the fuck out of ourselves. Then, Pearl Room's management shut off their mics and amps. The singer was arguing with the manager for a few minutes. Luckily, EXODUS was allowed to continue their set, although no one else could stage dive. They were awesome live and played all the fan favorites."

METAL CHURCH have issued the following update:
"Due to personal reasons, Jay Reynolds (guitars) has left Metal Church. We thank him for his contributions to the band, and wish him all the best in future endeavors. Jay's replacement has not been decided upon yet, but it will be announced when a decision has been reached."
As previously reported, vocalist Runny Munroe recently checked in with the following update:
"As we start recording the new songs I want to take a moment and answer a few questions that we get over and over. The first one is when people ask if Metal Church is a christian band. The name started when Kurdt lived in an apartment in San Francisco and everyone came there to play. They nicknamed it the Metal Church and that is where the band name came from. We are not secular although Metal Church has always tried to write thought provoking lyrics about life, money, war, politics etc. Things we can all identify with.
There have always been many people that compare me to the previous singers. I know there are fans that prefer David Wayne or Mike Howe and I accept that there will always be the comparison because that is life. We each have our own styles. I have to say that I was a Metal Church fan. I remember cranking the car stereo and singing to 'Gods Of Wrath' at the top of my lungs wishing someday that would be me. Not many people can realize their dreams so I am grateful for where I am both as a fan like yourselves and as a member of such a great band that has stayed true to their music. If you are a David Wayne fan, Mike Howe fan or a Ronny Munroe fan it doesn't matter because you are a Metal Church fan and that is all I care about.
Kurdt (Vanderhoof) is and always will be the soul behind the music. He is a quiet talent that has been given many labels. I hear over and over Metal Church being one of the pioneers of thrash. Mr. Kurdt Vanderhoof is a musical genius in my opinion but the label I want to give him is that he is a great guy and good friend.
It is is our nature to resist change and Metal Church has had its share of change. Metal Church has also stayed true and as I see the younger fans banging their heads to our music just like I did at their age and I know all is good in this world. Metal is here to stay and is being kept alive by the fans and now by their children. How F*ing cool is that? Being a parent myself I know it is hard to find things to have in common with your teenager but this music has built that bridge.
So as we record the new music that will be released this year we do this for you the fans and for the love of the music. We look forward to seeing you all on the road this year. It will be a very busy year both in Europe and the US. I hope we can get to South America as well. The tour is currently being planned so if you want to see us in your town let us know."
Samael have confirmed their appearance on Vader's anniversary gig at the Stodola Club in Warsaw on August 30th.
The following message was posted on the official Vader web site:
"This is definitely one of those bands that in the 90's together with VADER were fighting in the name of European metal music scene! It was a pretty long negotiation process but finally we succeeded in inviting SAMAEL to Poland in August! It was my big dream, to see them in Warsaw. Their history many times intersected with VADER's history... I will never forget their fantastic appearance on S'thrash'ydlo festival, many years ago. It was a big thing at that time! I also remember very well our crazy trip to Russia... No Internet, only letters, flyers, demo tapes exchanged by mail... what a time! Besides, I have always been a great fan of this band! (Mariusz Kmiolek - Massive Music). SAMAEL still belong to the metal elite. Their recent studio album "Solar Soul" released in 2007 via Nuclear Blast turned out to be a great success of the band. Perfect at a studio, perfect on live, those great musicians guarantee another great show on VADER's anniversary!"
Vader are currently finishing works on their 25-anniversary album, entitled "XXV." The album will be released at the end of May via Regain Records.

Behemoth has recently finished filming their new video for the song "At The Left Hand Ov God." The clip was produced by acclaimed Polish director Dariusz Szermanowicz and Group 13. The making of the video has been posted at this location. Also, photos from the video shoot are availabe at www.behemoth.pl in the Visuals/Misc section.
In other news, the band has just finished their second leg of their "European Apostasy" tour which covered UK, France, Spain and Portugal.
The band comments: "We've just come back home...Exhausted but satisfied! It was extremely successful trek I have to say. Shows in London, Lisbon, Limoges and Nantes in France and especially the one in Paris, which we filmed for upcoming DVD were probably our best performances EVER. I'm so fuckin' happy we managed to catch that memorable night on cameras, so we can share it with fans in the nearest future! Also, I'd like to send my regards to both opening bands: Suicide Silence and Devilish Impressions for being great companions! We are taking some time off now, enjoy few weeks of well deserved rest before we hit the road again...Inferno festival and US tour are next! Get ready for some more darkness to come!"
Behemoth are set to make their much anticipated return to North America this spring on "The Invaluable Darkness Tour Part 2" with Dimmu Borgir. The month-long trek, which kicks off on April 2, also features Keep of Kalessin.
