It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for members of the metalverse to share their favorite most pit stories.
While many of our Pit Stories center around violence and insanity as fans throw down in front of the stage, today Dark Century guitarist Martin Gendreau instead shares a story of an epic outdoor show. Martin comments:
October 6th, 2012 Beauharnois - Dark Century’s outdoor concert on a stage mounted on a flatbed trailer. Next to the stage, motocross jumping on a big air ramp. Behind the crowd, some car smoke show with artisanal bombs and fireworks. A Bar-b-cue was on the site for an all you can eat meat buffet.
Because of the temperature being near 10 degrees, some woods were burning into a old metal trash screwed to a frame of a mower. It was incredible the see that in a mosh pit! Also mechanical shovel on the site had fire inside to heat the crowd. A stage filled with beer donations… That was one epic heavy metal show.
Belgian doom/death metal quintet Marche Funèbre has booked the Motormusic studio in the band's hometown of Mechelen to record a second full length album, entitled "Roots of Grief." Marche Funèbre comments:
"With over an hour of new music, with the same influences as their earlier work, but also integrating new angles and inspiration, the band is eager to hit the studio at the end of April - beginning of May."
The track listing is as follows:
1. These Fevered Days
2. As In Autunm
3. l'Avenue des Coeurs Cassés
4. Nothing to Declare
5. Roots of Grief
7. Crown of Hope
The release is scheduled for September 2013, again by Belgium's Shiver Records. Singer Arne also comments: "We have been in writing modus for 'Roots of Grief' since the end of 2011 and have just finished the last song. Undeniably we are psyched to enter the studio once again, for what feels like our most varied and mature work to date. After visiting Motormusic Studio last month we knew this was the right place to get the massive, yet organic sound we are looking for!"

UK-based dirty rock n' roll trio Grifter is putting the finishing touches on the follow up to its self-titled debut full-length, which was released in 2011 by Ripple Music. Promising to deliver an album full of material that has been described as "heavy as fuck," guitarist/vocalist Ollie Stygall made the following statement about the band's forthcoming record:
"We're tantalisingly close to finishing writing for the album. One new track 'It's Not Me, It's You' just needs a few tweaks to round off some of the rougher edges but it's sounding tasty...it has kind of a swing blues vibe to it, albeit much heavier. We're also looking at dusting off "Woman Of Mine" and making the definitive version of it. We've always loved the song but it could do with a spruce up...I have some nice ideas. Once that's done we just need to think about getting in and recording it!!!"

"With over an hour of material displayed through fourteen tracks, the album is fueled by pummeling blast beats, electronic programming, a mixture of both guttural and haunting vocal styles, violins, saxophone, harmonica and a barrage of other instruments coalescing in a melting pot of misanthropic darkness that defines the Azure Emote ethos, recorded, mixed and mastered by Ron Vento of Aurora Borealis at Nightsky Studios.
"The cover art was once again done by Azure Emote's creator and frontman Mike Hrubovcak, his Visual Darkness works well-known in the death/grind communities for illustrating covers for Sinister, Grave, Cattle Decapitation, Hate Eternal, Mortician, and many others." More...

Sweden's classic rock heavyweights Spiritual Beggars recently finished work on their 8th studio album, "Earth Blues," which celebrates their 20th anniversary as band. The album will be released via InsideOut Music on April 15th in Europe and April 16th in North America.
Spiritual Beggar's guitarist and songwriter Michael Amott comments about the "Earth Blues" artwork:
"I had the idea for this artwork from my time as a child, seeing posters of two young lovers watching a romantic sunset on the beach, just your typical tacky bedroom art in the 70's really...Also, growing up in what is now referred to with some nostalgia as 'The Atomic Age' - the threat of nuclear war was always looming over our heads it seemed. I wanted to combine these two images of my youth in one paradoxical image and Per Wiberg of Hippograffix (and SPIRITUAL BEGGARS keyboardist) really managed to capture the melancholic feeling perfectly. 'Earth Blues,' indeed."
In order to promote this upcoming release as well as the band's anniversary, Spiritual Beggars has confirmed some summer festival appearances, in addition to a European tour in April with support by German rockers Zodiac. More...
