Brisbane-based sludge/metal band The Surrogate recently announced that they are disbanding. The band played a final show and hopes to still record their new songs for release.
The band commented on the break up:
"For those of us who have followed our progress it’s no secret that we’ve had a hard time holding down a firm line-up for more than a year, with various members bailing out to travel the world or simply not working out. When the last line-up fell apart in early 2009, it was just Geno and myself left. Given that we were the dudes that started the band together, we decided that so long as it was us two, The Surrogate would be able to exist as such. However, after taking some time off over the holiday period, and with interstate album recording and having already been planned for 2010, Geno has decided that The Surrogate presents a level of commitment that he is no longer enthused by. As such, our riff machine is gone, and the band is done. No point in beating a dead horse."
The band further commented on what some members are doing:
"However idle hands never rest, and Geno and myself have a new project going with some mates called Ironhide. Check us out in the top friends if you dig Converge/Misery Signals. Geno’s on guitar, I’m having a scream. I can’t imagine it being the most serious of touring/recording bands, but who knows what the future holds! With any luck I will be drumming out more thunderously epic post-metal tunes with a new bunch of dudes in the not-too-distant future."
Hard rockers Whitesnake have inked a record deal with Frontiers Records. David Coverdale and band are gearing up for their latest endeavour and have already started composing new material.
“We are off to a very good start, with the new songs taking positive shape. It feels good, fresh and exciting,” explains Coverdale. "As always, we want to take it to the next level. I feel that with the last album we achieved a strong Whitesnake ‘cocktail’ that comfortably embraced & mixed all the previous musical aspects & styles of the band’s history, while taking our identity a little further, all on one album."
Coverdale said the production team for the new album will most likely be the Brutal Brothers, or Los Bros Brutalos, who also handled the recording of "Good To Be Bad."
Floridia extreme metallers Order of Ennead recently finished recording their new album "An Examination Of Being" and have made the first new track available for streaming. The new song, titled "The Concept of Our Extinction," can be heard at the band's MySpace page. The band is also filming a music video for the song, which is being directed and produced by Advanced Media.
Order Of Ennead vocalist/guitarist Kevin Quirion comments: "Alright, now's the time that everyone can hear what we've been working on. This track deals with the acceptance and coping of our eventual passing. The word 'our' is meant as everyone individually and not as a mass extinction because all we are doing is just awaiting our end. See you on tour."
"An Examination Of Being" was recorded at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Mark Lewis and is due to be released on April 20th in North America and April 26th in Europe.
The track listing for the album is as follows:
1. The Concept of Our Extinction
2. The Scriptures of Purification
3. Lies Upon the Lips of Judas
4. This Mortal Journey
5. ...In the Mirror
6. An Examination of Being
7. Conduits to Eternity
8. A Portal to Rapture
9. A Betrayal of Self

Deron Miller has now issued the following update about the band's upcoming album:
"Hey, just finishing up lyrics for a few of the songs. They're turning out great. I'm very satisfied now. the 3 tentative WUB titles I have right now are 'Revere's Tears' about a guy that discovers the cure for cancer, is found dead, but then returns of course. 'I Can't Stand His Name,' and 'Purgatory Dormitory' are the others and i cant wait until this record comes out. 'Knife Beats Gun' and 'Stab Happy' are long gone...they were drunken concepts haha.
"I've been listening to the new Overkill CD A LOT and the song 'Ironbound' has been on repeat since i got it. you have to go get this record its fucking amazing. the best metal record of the last decade for sure. I talked to Risha and he is doing well. His personal problems are ironed out...he is still with us. I'm flying to Florida on the 28th to finish this album. it will be done tracking on march 5th so help me god. I guarantee nothing but my best always."

Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity's vocalist, Mikael Stanne, has checked in with the following report from the road, “Sitting here in beautifully cold Minneapolis trying to get the hangover out of my system. Fargo yesterday was as barren and cold as I remember it from the Cohen brother’s movie. Amazing crowd though and we celebrated accordingly. So far this tour has been amazing for us. We are now two weeks in and we are only just getting started. Amazing venues and huge crowds. Obviously we are struggling with winning over some of the fans of Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada, but so far I have been positively surprised as to how many are at first skeptical only to two songs in go nuts in the pit. It's a beautiful thing to behold from the stage."
“We have been playing two new songs in the set and they have really got the room moving every single night. I am really looking forward to doing way more of the new album material as we are near release date. Since this is just the start of a very long touring cycle we are really excited to see that the album is getting rave reviews and the friends we've played it to really love it. It seems to generate a lot of heated discussion too, which I view as a good sign. With such a diverse album we are bound to hear all kinds of comments and we always welcome that. Bring on the love/hate fest!”
DARK TRANQUILLITY’s new album, "We Are The Void," is set for a March 9th U.S. release.

"We are very delighted and proud to be joining Season of Mist", bassist Nicolas comments. "Being added to the same roster as Morbid Angel, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mayhem, Cynic and other greats is a huge opportunity and extremely motivating and exciting.
"Leng Tch'e clearly needs a label with an open mind when it comes to extreme music, Season of Mist definitely meets this criterion. That's why we feel it's a compliment that Season of Mist owner Michael Berberian absolutely loved the new Leng Tch'e material. This, together with his modern and realistic vision on the music industry, made him the obvious choice to be working with." More...

The past weekend Axl and the new Guns N Roses rolled into New York for a couple surprise shows. Going on late, and then partying for, as Axl was quoted, “As long as it takes”, it is clear Rose hasn’t changed much from the Use Your Illusion days. However, I was quite shocked to see Axl rocking the Fedora hat with the bandana, a bold move few can pull off. Add in the trademark oversized aviator shades and Axl becomes a first ballot inductee for the Cranium Accessories Hall of Fame, joining Bret Michaels and Hulk Hogan (first time ballot inductees in the bandana category)… More...
