Montreal based death metal quartet Synastry recently signed with Year of the Sun Records for the release of their upcoming debut album "Blind Eyes Bleed." The band has scheduled a May 13th, 2008 release date through Year of the Sun Records with a supporting Canadian tour to follow.
"All of us in Synastry are eager and thrilled that Blind Eyes Bleed will be issued through Canada's own Year of the Sun Records. We are confident that Year of the Sun and Synastry's union is one of the most logical steps in Synastry's evolution," commented Synastry frontman Jimmy Anastasopoulos. "As we join the family of quality bands already on Year of the Sun's roster, we will be able to bring Synastry's live show to many more cities and constant and intensive touring will be our top priority so our fans will get to see us up close and personal."
Synastry has quickly risen through the ranks of the Canadian death metal scene. The band's non-stop work ethic has earned them spots opening for heavyweights like Rotting Christ, Forever In Terror, and 3 Mile Scream while the group's online presence has made them the #1 ranked unsigned band in MySpace's Death Metal category.
"Montreal has always been a breeding ground for innovative metal bands and we're very excited to be working with a band like Synastry" said label founder Chris Benn. "When you look at the landscape of bands out there, it's always exciting when your ears get a taste of something unique. Synastry brings that to the table."
Synastry's debut album, "Blind Eyes Bleed" was produced and engineered by Slaves on Dope guitarist Kevin Jardine and features guest appearances by The Agonist's frontwoman Alissa White Gluz and former Arch Enemy founding vocalist Johan Liiva.
Synastry is currently streaming tracks from forthcoming debut album on their MySpace page.
Chicago-based experimental black metallers NACHTMYSTIUM have issued the following update:
"We've received info today from the promoters for the SMF Metal Festival at The Kathedral on April 19th has been canceled. Not sure what the whole story is, and it doesn't really matter, bottom line is the whole fest is off for now and we will not be performing in Canada that night. Sorry to anyone looking forward to the gig!"
"We will be in Canada in June on our North American tour for Assassins!" More...
Although Canuck metallers MEATLOCKER SEVEN disbanded in June 2006, their band members have remained active.
Guitarist Mike Selman has launched a new project called UNLEASH THE ARCHERS (pictured). Song samples can be heard at their MySpace page.
Meanwhile Steve Migliarese plays bass in stoner metal band RUN LIKE HELL. Bram Harvey (vocals) and Death Metal Dave Krull (drums) are in a melodic thrash band called A LETHAL DOSE OF BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA.
Finnish crust/grind metal act ARRESTUM have announced they will release a new self-titled EP as part of a new 'Sliding Scale' download series through Canada's Moshpit Tragedy Records. The five-song release will soon be available from www.moshpit-tragedy.com complete with a printable sleeve for as much or as little as each visitor chooses and is even being offered for free to those without a paypal account. An audio sample of the song 'No Rest' (which features a guest vocal appearance by Matti of Hangover Overdose) is available at www.myspace.com/mptrecords.
Arrestum is Powerviolence Man: drums, Mr. Muscle: bass, Fat & Slow Front: vocals, Bastard Son of Satan: guitar. More...
Spinner.com reports that Australian hard rock icons AC/DC are getting closer to ending an eight-year drought of new music. "God, I'm ready," bassist Cliff Williams, who was in L.A. to participate at the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, tells Spinner.com. To that end, the group will hit the studio March 1.
Almost as long as the wait for new music is the band's absence from the stage. Tour plans, however, aren't as firm. "If we go out again or when we go out again," Williams said. "You just never know. We've been around a long time, so we're going to get together and get in the studio and I fully expect we will [tour.]. I don't mean to be so negative about that. [When] the last tour ended in early '01, you'd see kids on their dads' shoulders. And these kids were like 10, 12 years old. It will be tremendous to see that again. And it's very cool — younger kids getting into older music."
Swedish death metal band STARTERHEAD has posted the song "The Last Words" on its MySpace profile. The track comes off the group's forthcoming album, titled "Undergrounding", which was produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA). ANATA's Conny Pettersson performs drums on the CD.
The band is currently looking for a record label to release "Undergrounding".
Formed in 2002, STARTERHEAD released its full-length debut, "Inside", in April 2006 through Indark Music.

The band checks in once again with another update straight from Grindstone Studios about the recording of their EARACHE debut, CITIZEN BRAIN (produced by Scott Atkins):
"If making amazing albums is a crime, we're going to be sent down for life when CITIZEN BRAIN gets released (slated for mid-May, fact fans). Drums are complete, as evidenced by Paul spending his days playing Hitman with a beer, and we're coming to the end of guitar tracking. Luke and Domo have been putting in long days, scrutinizing every riff and lick with Scott, and the results sound amazing. Philly is now getting into the thick of the vocal takes, too, and is packing in some seriously balls-to-the-wall screaming in late-night sessions. Unfortunately, he hasn't been spotted wearing sunglasses while doing takes like Glen Benton. A recent memo from EARACHE advised that 'more falsettos = better', and we're certainly going to deliver on that."
"Last week saw Tom Luchtenstein from MUTANT and Jamie from Resilience Records swing by the studio to deliver some hilariously brilliant backing vocals on a few tunes, only to callously leave us again like the Milk Tray man in the night. We got over it. We also got the first pencil roughs for CITIZEN BRAIN's album cover back from our man in New York, the brilliant Jeff Zornow. It looks amazing. If you see one picture of robot arms coming out of mouths this year, make this it." More...
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee police have arrested a 19-year-old man they believe was involved in the weekend armed robbery of BURY YOUR DEAD guitarist Eric Ellis, who had just played a show at The Rave.
The victim, 23, was sitting in a car about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he was held up by five men, two with guns, according to Milwaukee police. He handed over a bag of jewelry, and the robbers fled the parking lot, near N. 24th St. and W. Wisconsin Ave.
The victim chased the robbers and caught up with them but was kicked, suffering a cut to his head.
Department spokesman Bobby Lindsey said the 19-year-old suspect was arrested Monday and remains in police custody. The case is expected to be referred to prosecutors Wednesday. Police continue to seek other suspects in the crime, Lindsey said. More...

Canadian tech-thrashers NEURAXIS will enter the studio February 19 with producer Jef Fortin (of fellow Canadians Anonymous) to record the band’s fifth studio album. The recording process will be done in late March and is scheduled to be mastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Converge, Shadows Fall), and will feature artwork from Dennis Sibeijn of Damnengine Art (Job For A Cowboy, Chimaira). The yet-untitled effort should see a July release through Prosthetic Records.
"We feel this album will be something monumental for NEURAXIS,” says guitarist Rob Milley. “With the new line-up and the energy we have created in the writing sessions, it’s something that is new and refreshing, yet still retains a lot of the essence of what NEURAXIS has built since day one."
The new album will be the first studio album featuring new vocalist Alex Leblanc and guitarist William Seghers, both having appeared on the recently released "Live Progression," via Galy Records. "Live Progression" is the live follow-up to NEURAXIS’ last studio album, 2005's "Trilateral Progression." More details, tour dates, and regular in-studio footage updates will be available shortly. The first web episode is online now on the band's MySpace page and features sneak previews of new songs, as well as commentary in both English and French Canadian on the new material.
Here are the latest NEURAXIS concerts planned:
4/11 Trois-Rivieres, QC – Le Stage
4/12 St-Hyacinthe, QBC – Bar Le Trash
4/26 Sudbury, ONT – The Serbian Centre (Sundbury Metalfest)
The Divining issue the following update on their Myspace page:
"With a new practice spot/studio at our finger tips, we have spent the last few months writing new material that we hope to demo and release by spring. We are planning to record 3 or 4 new tracks for this effort and make it available to everyone for free online."
"In late 2006, we had signed to New Jersey based indie label 1x1 Music, which included full US distribution through Universal/Fontana. After spending months in the studio with Eric Rachel at Traxx East and Mike Cassel at Labyrinth Sound in NJ, our band was dealt a devastating blow at the hands of 1x1 Music's owner. As it turned out, this individual had been stealing large sums of money from his own company, resulting in the freezing of the accounts needed to release and promote our completed record. The label would become defunct, leaving many careers in limbo. At this point, we're not sure what will become of that material." More...
Darksun have begun working on their new album, which will be released in September 2008.

SWE/GER/AUT/SUI: 29.2.2008, EUROPE: 3.3.2008,
Finland: 27.2.2008, USA/CAN: 4.3.2008
Having inked a deal with Napalm Records, German gothic rockers LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE return this year to record their follow-up to their Filthy Notes For Frozen Hearts album.
The band will once again work with renowned producer John Fryer (HIM, NIN). The new album is expected out in April or May.
Expect a melancholic masterpiece full of surprises. More details to follow.
Iowa’s MODERN LIFE IS WAR have posted the following update:
“MODERN LIFE IS WAR will be doing one final tour from March 29th to April 26th. Our last show ever will be April 26th in Marshalltown, Iowa. There is no disaster or dramatic situation behind the break-up. All past and current members of the band are still good friends and there is no bad blood. We just feel like it’s the right time and would rather end things on our own terms than let our band become a ghost of what it was in the beginning or to be ripped apart by outside forces."
"Our first show was on April 20th, 2002 in Tyler’s parents basement. This makes our run as a band almost exactly six years. We want to send a huge thank you out to everyone who supported this band through thick and thin because you care about us as individuals, our music, our message or what we stand for as a band. We also want to thank all the people in the DIY/underground hardcore and punk scenes all over the country and world who work really hard and sacrifice a lot for little to no recognition or money because they love the music and message. I am really proud of all that we have accomplished but know that without the support of that community we would have never had a chance to tour and put out records for so many years. I don’t want to get sentimental and there is no short way of wrapping up all my feelings about this band and these last six years. Above all…I hope we have made some people feel less alone and motivated them to think for themselves, be themselves and take action. Punk rock changed our lives. I hope we contributed something to keep the whole thing going. We are leaving soon…but The future is unwritten…so start writing it. Tour dates will be posted soon. Come sweat and scream and say goodbye to MODERN LIFE IS WAR.”
HORSE THE BAND have posted the following lengthy update:
“Hey we posted all the confirmed dates for EARTH TOUR, self-booked, three-month, four-continent, 40-country tour of the world. Here is the full routing, which includes places we’re planning on playing but don’t have confirmed shows in yet. And there is more news after all these dates!!!"

Arclight Communications recently signed an exclusive distribution deal with Lumberjack Mordam, which means their current releases and any future ones will be available in indie stores/retailers worldwide.
Two of Arclight's releases are now out of print. ARC002-2 will be FREE with every order until they are completely gone and they only have a few copies of ARC003-7.
Finally, the label has two new releases scheduled for May 2008, which are Antilles' "Beholder/Destroyer" (ARC007-2 ) and the Indomitable Iron Sloth's "Life, Liberty" (ARC008-2). Preorders and some extra goodies will be up for sale once the discs are in hand, which should be right around a month before they are in stores.
SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian has told MTV.com that SCARS ON BROADWAY — the band he formed with SYSTEM's drummer, John Dolmayan, soon after the Serj Tankian-fronted act went on an indefinite hiatus back in 2006 — is not a side project.
"There's no talk of SYSTEM doing anything," Malakian told MTV.com. "We're not planning on doing anything. If anyone's holding their breath for a SYSTEM record, they're going to turn blue and pass out. It's a long ways away, if it ever even happens. We don't even talk about it — none of us. This is my band right now."
"I should be finished with vocals in the next couple of weeks," he said of his band's forthcoming self-titled album, which he doesn't expect in stores until after the summer. "All we have to do after that is mix the record. I've been in the studio for months now, and we had 15 songs when we first hit the studio in September. We tracked those 15 songs, and then I had, like, maybe five or six songs I felt I really needed to get off my chest. So I took the band back to my house where we were rehearsing, and in a matter of a month, we had those songs written, and we headed back into the studio in late November and tracked those additional songs."

"The album is very traditional-sounding," guitarist Eric Peterson recently told Decibel magazine. "The ideology of what we're doing is like 'The Legacy' . But the musicianship's a lot better, so it's like 'The Gathering' . As most bands record their first, second and third albums, they're developing, developing, developing… until they've got their sound. Then they get worse. As a rule, you get good when you're starving and start slipping as soon as you're eating well. We never really made it to the big time. But, then again, we didn't fail. Because we've always been on that borderline, we've never had to make the kinds of compromises that end up killing so many bands. As we see it, we're better off doing what we do best, especially since things seem to have turned full circle. Kids even have long hair again."
TESTAMENT recently recruited Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC) to play the drums on new CD. The group was previously rehearsing and writing new material with British drummer Nick Barker (CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), but Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and international work visa issues have prevented Barker from continuing to be involved in the project.
Bostaph, who was a member of TESTAMENT for a brief period starting around February 2004, had previously played several live dates with the group in 1992 and appeared on the band's 1993 live EP, "Return to the Apocalyptic City". He also toured with TESTAMENT in 2006.
JOEY BELLADONNA, former lead singer of the legendary group ANTHRAX from 1985-92 and 2005-06, has been featured on over 10 albums that have sold over 8 Million records worldwide.
During that time, Belladonna has shared the stage with IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, MEGADETH, KISS, OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK SABBATH, SLAYER, ALICE IN CHAINS, DIO, PUBLIC ENEMY, LIVING COLOR, PRIMUS, MOTLEY CRUE, BON JOVI, WHITESNAKE, TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, EXODUS, HELLOWEEN, ROB ZOMBIE, JUDAS PRIEST and many others.
Also during this time Joey sang the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden and the Metro Dome in Minnesota for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. In 1988 he starred in the underground cult classic film, Pledge Night.
While Belladonna was with Anthrax, the band was nominated for three Grammy awards, appeared on the Fox sitcom Married with Children, and was voted #1 metal singer two years in a row by Metal Forces Magazine.
In the mid to late '90s, Joey Belladonna released his first two solo albums with great press and reviews from around the world. After his successful worldwide reunion tour with Anthrax in 2005-06, Joey is now onto his solo project. With a world tour for 2008 entitled Never Look Back, Joey has recruited a new powerhouse band and is currently working on a new Belladonna album to be released in the fall of 2008.

Former USURPER guitarist Rick Scythe has issued the following update on his NIGHTSHADE project:
"We just posted a 'new' song. It's actually not new at all, but the first song ever written and recorded for NightShade called, 'Eye Of The Crow' (listen here). Although this is still a bit of a rough-version, it will give you an idea of some of the other material which will be on the debut NightShade album (Majick Potion). Let us know if you dig it."
"Speaking of the new NightShade album, we have solicited our CD to a few labels and hopefully in the next couple months we will have something worked out. The idea is to release our debut album this year and then hit the road. We want to be pretty selective about shows. We are working on some ideas for a cool set design and really prefer quality over quantity, and obscurity over over-saturated 'hipster-ness'. We really hope to distance ourselves from the Hipster stranglehold that has it's grip on the music scene in general. We have no desire to try to make NightShade fit in with any particular scene." The clip will feature indoor and outdoor footage and will be available in within the next two weeks.
According to Wikipedia, the Fortress of Varberg was built during 1287-1300 by count Jacob Nielsen as protection against his Danish King, who had declared him an outlaw after the murder of King Eric V of Denmark.
"Never Seen Before" comes off SANDALINAS' latest album, "Fly to the Sun", which was released in January via Metal Heaven. The CD features guest appearances by Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER) on keyboards, Chris Caffery (SAVATAGE) on guitar and Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND) on guitar. More...

NILE have been forced to cancel their upcoming February 20th show in Santiago, Chile. They have issued the following statement:
"The promoter has, at the last minute, refused to pay the band as agreed. The band is VERY disappointed, and if there was ANY way to still put on the show, I assure you they would do it! It's just not possible for them to fly the whole band and their gear to and from Chile, play the show and handle all living expenses out of their personal bank accounts. We hope the opportunity comes again for Nile to play in Chile, as they were very excited about this show. Please understand that if there was any way for Nile to still do this show they would do it in a heartbeat. We all sincerely apologize to the fans who have patiently waited for Nile to come to their country." More...
Guitarist/vocalist Kurt Bachman of the reactivated late '80s/early '90s technical-thrash metal band BELIEVER has issued the following update:
"After some amp meltdowns and ruined guitar necks I am pleased to tell you that the rhythm guitar tracks [for the new BELIEVER album] are now complete!!! And they are HEAVY. We cannot wait for you to hear this stuff. Over the next few weeks, we will also be making some 'involved' decisions on when and how we are going to release our new material. Hopefully we will pass some info onto you in the near future.
"We have been completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of positive support from our fans worldwide. No matter what others may say, the metal community is alive and well and we are truly honored to be a very small part. A great big 'thank you' goes out to those who continue to run BELIEVER fan sites and to the metal webzines for posting updates about the band and our progress."
BELIEVER's albums "Extraction from Mortality" (1989), "Sanity Obscure" (1990) and "Dimensions" (1993) were made available on November 5 via Poland's Metal Mind Productions in a new digipak edition on golden disc, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology and limited to 2,000 numbered copies.
HAIL OF BULLETS, the new band featuring GOREFEST drummer Ed Warby, THANATOS guitarists Stephan Gebédi and Paul Baayens, former PESTILENCE/ASPHYX singer Martin Van Drunen and former HOUWITSER bass player Theo van Eekelen, has entered Excess studios in Rotterdam, Holland to begin recording its debut album for a May release via Metal Blade Records.
Commented Warby: "Today we had the first of three planned vocal days, and Herr van Drunen nailed five songs in as many hours. You should hear the man warm up, it's quite an experience... On many of these songs I'm hearing vocal lines for the first time, and it's fantastic stuff. The lyrics are already quite a vivid read, but hearing them screamed, growled and vomited is an entirely different thing! We mess around with little timing things afterwards, but mostly these are done in one or two whole takes. To wrap up a long day (we did drum-editing/cleaning in the morning), our engineer Chris cranked up the last song on the big-ass speakers (that you never use in the studio cause they make everything sound way too good), and we just sat there grinning like monkeys at the awesomeness pouring out. Life is good."
HAIL OF BULLETS' semi-legendary four-track promotional CD, which recently brought the band a deal with Metal Blade Records, was scheduled to be released on vinyl last month through Iron Pegasus Records from Germany. The limited-edition EP is being made available in two different versions from various mailorders and underground labels throughout Europe and the U.S.
HAIL OF BULLETS was formed in late 2006 through a mutual love for old-school death metal bands like AUTOPSY, BOLT THROWER, MASSACRE, CELTIC FROST and DEATH. In the summer of 2007, the band entered a Rotterdam studio to record a four-song promotional CD, which was mixed by the infamous death metal guru Dan Swanö in Sweden. Swanö stated upon the CD's completion: "If this promo doesn't get you guys a good record deal, I will eat my laptop!"
DIVINE HERESY — the new Los Angeles-based band featuring former FEAR FACTORY/current ASESINO guitarist Dino Cazares alongside drummer Tim Yeung (ex-VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL), vocalist Tommy Cummings (VEXT) and bassist Joe Payne (ex-NILE, DOMINATION THROUGH IMPURITY, LUST OF DECAY) — will take part in a signing session on Monday, February 25 at Utopia Records (233 Broadway) in Sydney, Australia.
DIVINE HERESY recently wrapped up a very successful three-week North American run alongside ALL THAT REMAINS and CHIMAIRA this week, which leads them directly into their first Australian trek, where the group will perform with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, AS I LAY DYING, INCUBUS and many more. The band will then proceed to headline a week of U.S. dates.
DIVINE HERESY will team up with ARCH ENEMY, DARK TRANQUILLITY and FIREWIND for a North American tour in May.
MOTÖRHEAD and DEATH ANGEL will team up for a one-off concert on June 24 at the Festhalle Rüegerholz in Frauenfeld, Switzerland.
MOTÖRHEAD entered the studio last month to begin recording the follow-up to 2006's "Kiss of Death". A late spring/early summer release is expected.
"Kiss of Death" entered the national album charts in the following countries: Germany: #4, Norway: #9, Sweden: #13, Austria: #20, Switzerland: #26, U.K.: #45, Denmark: #53. The CD was recorded at the Paramount studios in Los Angeles with Cameron Webb, who also worked with the group on 2004's "Inferno". The album includes guest appearances by POISON guitarist C.C. Deville and ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Inez.
Rockster.tv recently conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee. It can be viewed below. More...
