Beatallica Slapped With "Cease-And-Desist" Order

Beatallica, the Internet sensation who combine the work of The Beatles with the sound of early Metallica, have been slapped with a "cease-and-desist" order by The Beatles' music publisher over their "unlawful use" of the group's compositions "without authorization or license."

In the notice of willful copyright infringement, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, copyright owner and music publisher of "compositions written, individually and jointly, by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Richard Starkey" claims that Beatallica's use of The Beatles' compositions "without the express authorization or license has caused and continues to cause substantial and irreparable injury amd is in direct violation of Sony/ATV's rights."

When Metallica frontman James Hetfield was asked last year by Kerrang! magazine if he's ever heard Beatallica, he replied, "Yeah. I heard that. That was amazing. Someone put a lot of thought and talent into that man!" Asked if he was being sarcastic, he said, "No, not at all. I heard it online. It was about a year ago, or more. It was pretty amazing. It was pretty well thought out so I'm glad there's people like that in the world to do that and it's very entertaining for us, for sure!"

Anthrax To Re-Release Classic Albums

Megaforce Records will re-release Anthrax's classic albums, "Fistful of Metal" and also "Armed And Dangerous" on one CD February 22, 2005.

Like Metallica and Megadeth, Anthrax was responsible for the emergence of speed and thrash metal; combining the speed and fury of hardcore with the guitars and vocals of heavy metal, they helped create a new sub-genre of heavy metal. Unlike Metallica, they had the good sense to temper their often serious music with a healthy dose of humor and realism.

Their first album, "Fistful of Metal," included original singer Neil Turbin and featured the now classic song, "Metal Thrashing Mad." It also introduced fans to this new brutal style of metal. Their second album, "Armed And Dangerous," saw singer Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello join the lineup. Belladonna helped take the band farther away from conventional metal cliches and was a catalyst in making Anthrax arguably become the leaders of speed metal.

Fans can now have these first two Anthrax albums in one package featuring new artwork and liner notes from the band. Anthrax is a band that has sold over 10 million records worldwide.

Hatesphere Frontman Form New Band

Allhelluja is a new band born from a collaboration between Danish and Italian friends. On vocals Jacob Bredahl, frontman of the latest extreme metal explosion Hatesphere, in tour now with Kreator/Dark Tranquillity/Ektomorf and soon on the road again supporting the legendary kings of death metal Morbid Angel; on drums Stefano Longhi, from Scarlet Records, Hatesphere old label (now the band is with SPV). Allhelluja just finished the debut album "Inferno Museum," lyrically inspired by Derek Raymond's book "Dead Man Upright," a 'psycho-sex serialkiller' masterpiece. Mastered at the top Swedish studios Cutting Room (Rammstein, Backyard Babies, In Flames). "Inferno Museum" will feature 10 songs and the sound should be described as an explosive mix between Entombed, Motorhead and Kyuss. Dirty Rockin' Metal with a diabolical lyrical concept behind! The band is now considering offers from various labels. The album release is tentatively scheduled for May/June 2005. More news will follow.

Vader Nominated For Poland's Fryderyk Award

VADER's latest CD, "The Beast", has been nominated in the "Best Metal Album" category at the Fryderyk awards, which is one of the most prestigious music award shows in Poland.

In other news, VADER have achieved the following results in Polish Metal Hammer's annual readers' poll:

Band Of The Year - 2nd
Album Of The Year - 3rd (for "The Beast")
Musician Of The Year - 1st (for Peter)
Famous Person - 1st (for Peter)

VADER will enter Hertz Studio in Bialystok in early July to record a brand new mini-CD under the working title of "The Art of War".

The CD will be produced by the Wieslawscy brothers and will contain "three extremely intense and fast cuts and one song in the vein of the band's typical style," according to a posting on the group's web site. "The Art of War" will also contain a special bonus video clip for the title track. "It's going to be something really new, unconventional and powerful, expect the unexpectable (the production itself has taken almost 5 months)!" reads a posting on the band's web site.

VADER fulfilled their contractual obligations to Metal Blade Records with the release of their most recent effort, "The Beast" (2004), and are currently negotiating with several labels about a new deal. An announcement regarding the group's new label home will be made soon.

Marduk Drummer Suffers Broken Arm

Swedish black/death metallers THE LEGION, featuring current MARDUK drummer Emil Dragutinovic, have issued the following statement regarding the incident over the weekend that resulted in Emil suffering a broken arm and unable to embark on MARDUK's previously announced European tour:

"On Saturday night [February] 12th, our drummer Emil and a close friend to the band was attacked by a group of five immigrants. Emil was trying to protect this friend of ours when a dude with a baseball bat suddenly attacked him. When trying to defend himself from the severe beating he broke his left arm. Emil's friend got seriously maltreated and is now hospitalised. Emil is now in plaster and he's unable to play the drums for some months. This means that the upcoming tour with MARDUK (Emil's other band) gets postponed and the recording of our new album gets delayed for a while too. This really sucks since we've had the new material ready for some time now and we where just waiting for Emil to be done with the tour."

THE LEGION's debut album, "Unseen To Creation", was released in October 2003 through France's Listenable Records. The CD, which was recorded at Abyss Studios with producer Tommy Tägtgren, features "ten songs of complex and eclectic black/death metal, ranging in style from MORBID ANGEL to SETHERIAL". The cover art was done by Kris Verwimp, who has previously worked with MARDUK, ABSU, SATHANAS, and IMMORTAL, among others.

BLS, Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, KSE To Play Ozzfest 05?

Word has it that BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and ROB ZOMBIE have both secured slots on the 10-year-anniversary edition of Ozzfest, with Zakk Wylde's troupe slated to kick off the proceedings on the main stage. Meanwhile, ZOMBIE, MUDVAYNE and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE are said to be in the mix for the smaller second stage, which is expected to feature more non-rotating slots this summer compared to the last couple of years.

As previously reported, IRON MAIDEN are set to co-headline the entire event with BLACK SABBATH, although recent reports indicate that OZZY OSBOURNE (with Zakk Wylde on guitar) may attempt to stage a solo performance at this year's festival. Also expected to perform on the main stage is the "Among the Living" lineup of ANTHRAX, which has already been confirmed for three European festivals this spring/summer (Holland's Dynamo Open Air on May 7, Sweden's Sweden Rock on June 9-11 and Italy's Gods of Metal on June 11-12) prior to their appearance at Ozzfest.
