Fields Of The Nephilim has unveiled the first track from the forthcoming "Ceromonies" project, which can be found in the player below. The band issued the following press release:
"‘Penetration’ is a dazzling assault on the senses; a ferocious blast of machine-gun strobes and billowing dry-ice that switches between vivid colours and intense monochromatic flashes, set to a precise, brutal and ritualistic soundtrack.
"A demonstration of their dark power which first featured on the ‘Zoon’ album, ‘Penetration’ is an example of the Nephilim at their most extreme, a track which welds the jackhammer rhythms and guttural roar of that album’s industrial vision to the chiming guitars and dramatic melodies for which they are most widely known.
"Whilst other tracks such as the elegaically beautiful epic ‘Wail Of Sumer / And There Will Your Heart Be Also’ from the ‘Elizium’ period demonstrate the softer, more atmospheric moments in their canon, and the likes of ‘Moonchild’, ‘Preacher Man’ and ‘Psychonaut’ represent some of the band’s biggest hits, ‘Penetration’ is a unexpected shot of adrenaline straight to the heart."
The "Ceremonies" live album and DVD is set for release on March 19th, 2012. More...

Norway gained a reputation for releasing the creating the second wave of black metal. Bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone, Emperor, Immortal and Burzum took the Satanic imagery and speed of Venom, Bathory and Celtic to a new level that had never been seen. Two decades have pasted since these bands released their genre-defining albums. Most of these groups have changed their sound and look, but legions of black metal heathens haven’t forgotten this magical period. Bands from around the world have sought to reclaim the dark ambiance from these bands. Some come across as cheap clones. Others, like New Jersey’s Immolith understand how to make an album wearing their influences on their sleeves, but still put their own personalities into the music.
Immolith’s first full-length, “Stormdragon” (read the review) is an example of a “kult” black metal album with a shadowing, witching atmosphere but with a strong mix. The group didn’t pursue a shiny, Hollywood production with a ton of out-of-place keyboards, but the guitars and vocals still freezes the air like an unclean spirit, which will cause a tingling of the spine. Metal Underground spoke to guitarist, vocalist and over-all evil mastermind, Greg Isiamon about achieving this sound and the band’s sources of inspiration. More...

Battle metallers Turisas will be heading back to North America this spring for "PaganFest: America Part III," their first-ever U.S. headlining run. Joining the Finnish sextet on their triumphant return to the States is a gathering of bands from across the world: Scotland's Alestorm, Russia's Arkona, and U.S. act Huntress. Ex Deo has now dropped-off the tour, and in regards to the band's departure from PaganFest, Maurizio Iacono comments:
"It is with deep disappointment that I am obliged to pull EX DEO off this year's PaganFest. We were all excited to play this festival and premier some new material, but unfortunately our new album 'Caligvla' has been delayed, and we need to finish it and make it perfect. Add to that, the Kataklsym DVD is also on its final production phase...We decided it would be best to concentrate on giving every bit of attention to the album you have been waiting for, and also for the Kataklysm documentary to kick major ass.
"This being said, we will still perform with EX DEO on the Montreal & Toronto shows with PaganFest, as we will be in studio in the area, closing up the album 'Caligvla'. Everything else is cancelled for EX DEO. We will return to support the album in the fall...
"Word from Rome is that the plans are already in motion for world conquest! We ask our fans to support PaganFest and the great bands playing this year!"
Dates for the PaganFest tour are as follows: More...

"The album will be released on Monday 27th February 2012. Casket has started pre-orders on their store of the album at £6.99 as well as the album being on Amazon.co.uk to pre-order.

Finnish death doomsters Desecresy started the recordings of their sophomore album in late 2011 and are currently in the final stages to complete this opus which will be entitled "The Doom Skeptron." Mixing is being handled by Jani Loikas who has previously worked for bands like Slugathor and Deepred, amongst others. Xtreem Music commented on the release:
"In 'The Doom Skeptron' you shall witness the approaching mass of Death Metal forged by the weight of kick drums crushingly rotating onwards alongside with palm muted tremolo riffing and guitar leads dwelling from chambers of distant monoliths. All this accompanied by deep voices from the realms underneath ours... Thematically stroking lyrical landscape portraits of surroundings from darkest predictions, and relating tales of creatures beyond our mortal existence.
"As we all heard on the band's debut album 'Arches of Entropy,' Desecresy values the Finnish Death Metal tradition as a source of inspiration, having also influence from bands like Bolt Thrower, Immolation, Incantation, and Asphyx." More...

UAE-based metallers Benevolent are in the recording process for their upcoming debut full-length album, and the band is now adding Andols Herrick (ex-Chimaira) as a featured musician on the album to record one track.
Hadi Sarieddine, the band co-founder and lead guitarist states "It is pretty crazy thinking that Andols Herrick is going to be drumming on one of our songs; if I go back in time and tell past-me that this was happening I'd probably get a pretty sarcastic reaction." He added "The last couple of years since we started the band have been absolutely insanely great for us; getting such great reviews for the debut record, getting signed to Spellbind Records, and now this? I can't think that things could be any better for the band, I'm really proud of how things are coming together."
Andols Herrick commented on his work with Benevolent and how this all came together: "I was approached by Hadi Sarieddine awhile back about the possibility of tracking drums for Benevolent. I was quite impressed with the quality of the music and vocals. I love having the opportunity to work with a great band, who happens to represent the Middle East metal scene very well. I do know it is very vibrant having had the pleasure of performing with Chimaira at the Desert Rock Festival in Dubai back in 2009." More...

Long running Swedish act Katatonia is currently in the process of recording a new album and follow-up to "Night is the New Day" (reviewed here). The band has now checked in from the studio with a video update, which can be found via Katatonia's Facebook profile.
The Swedes previously commented on the upcoming album:
"So, how does the material sound like? Well, you got the lush textures, the moody melodies, the heavy parts, the progressive touches, the mellow bits and so on... Is it metal? Is it rock? Is it alternative? Is it singer/songwriter? Actually at times it feels like we're exploring territories where Katatonia would be an orphan in the land of 'genres.' We can't tell where and to whom we belong and the goal is that it doesn't even matter, because before and above any genre there's first an acceptance level of music being good, or being bad. Katatonia might be bad people, but we create good music. Amen."
