New Jersey thrashers Hammer Fight are streaming a new song from the band's self-titled debut EP. The name of the track is "Ginger Rails," and it should follow a similar theme of metal debauchery that the band's official video "Get Wrecked" had. During the same recording session that spawned "Ginger Rails," Hammer Fight also recorded a track entitled "A Corpse Is A Corpse (Of Course Of Course)," for the forthcoming film "The Living Corpse." Details on the song and film are forthcoming.
The fourth installment of the Desert Sound compilations is upon us and streaming online at this location. Desert Sound Vol. IV – In The Mouth Of Fuzz packs 25 cuts from the scene defined by chugging guitars, dirty fuzz, psychedelic visions, feedback and cowbell fills. It's a trip deep into the Italian heavy stoner psycho doom panorama, with tracks that are stoner to others that are on the psychedelic side, as well as the doom mantras and spacey compositions. Stream it all below, and check out the full alphabetical band listing with tracks and cover artwork after the jump.

The instrumental "Swamp," which has been a staple of ISD's live set for years and showcases their musical ability, can be downloaded for free from the band's Facebook profile after clicking the "like" button.
"Recurring Themes" is set for release on February 24th 2012. Australian melodic deathsters Elysian are set to release their aggressively punchy debut album "Wires of Creation" worldwide on March 26th, 2012. According to a press release from the band's publicist, "The release storms its way through eleven tracks of hook laden, flowing dark melodies, technical solo interludes and snarlingly evil vocal work."
Guitarist Gabe Hutchinson comments: “Our main goal was to create a dynamic experience from start to finish whilst maintaining heavy songs. Overall it's a really heavy melodic death album but at times soars into things like an instrumental Pink Floyd-esque song with an electronic feel or a intricate percussive section. As a band, we grew up listening to music that incorporated acoustic ballads with blazing shred songs all in the one album, and it wasn't called progressive; it was called a good album. Some bands aim to have their songs sound disjointed by dramatically switching between genres; that’s not what we have done, the whole album flows, it attacks and it releases, its aggressive but gives you time to breath and take it in.”
The teaser song "Mans Design" taken from ‘‘Wires of Creation" can be heard below. The album's track listing is as follows: More...
Breed77 has checked in with the following update about upcoming material and acoustic tour dates:
"Breed77 explode back into action with Pledge campaign for an exclusive acoustic EP ‘Under The Skin‘ and their new album, ‘The Evil Inside‘ as well as an acoustic tour of the UK in April!
"The Gibraltarian born, London-based rockers are back with a vengeance. After extensive touring of their last album, ‘Insects’ which took them from Mexico to Japan, the boys have decided to do things differently this time round…. Teaming up with Pledge Music who help artists and their fans interact during the creation of an album in a totally new way – and always being receptive to what fans want, the decision was made to release two records. Firstly – and exclusive to Pledge – is ‘Under The Skin’ a collection of 8 acoustic tracks, encompassing versions of classic breed songs from their chart-bothering back catalogue, as well as a few surprises as the band tackle some well known rock standards.
"The Evil Inside, the fifth studio album from Breed77 will also be available to pre-order via Pledge and on general release in June. A dark, brooding affair, The Evil Inside is the band’s most introspective work to date. Not ones to rest on their laurels, B77 have switched it up again with a rockier, more melodic offering."
“The pace hasn’t slowed, so much as changed, this album has everything - stomping rhythms, haunting grooves, trippy breakdowns…but it’s dark, so dark!!” says front man Paul Isola. More...

Finnish act Oddland, which recently signed on with Century Media Records, is set to release "The Treachery Of Senses" on April 30th, 2012 (EU) and May 8th, 2012 (North America).
After spending months writing new material, the band is very excited to get the record out to fans. "This record was long in the making, as most of the tracks were already composed when we got signed by CM, but even the older songs evolved a lot during pre-production. We feel that in the end we succeeded in making a great record as a whole, rather than just a collection of individual songs," says Sakari Ojanen (vocals / guitar). "Working with Dan Swanö was very satisfactory-- he really helped us attain the sound we were after. Also worth mentioning is the contribution of Samu Oittinen at Fantom Studios, who helped us nail the organic sound we wanted for the raw tracks. We feel there isn't too much of this kind of music out there so hopefully 'The Treachery Of Senses' won't go unnoticed. In the end, we couldn't be happier with the outcome-- we feel we made a killer debut album." More...

Black Sabbath, which late last year confirmed the recording of the band's first new album in more than 33 years and a worldwide headlining tour, has had to put some plans on hold due to Tony Iommi’s battle with lymphoma. Current plans are for Black Sabbath to perform only one show of this summer’s previously scheduled European tour, which will be the U.K.’s Download Festival on Sunday, June 10, 2012.
So as not to let the promoters and fans down, Ozzy Osbourne will perform the majority of the previously scheduled Black Sabbath dates (both festival performances and the headlining shows) billed as Ozzy & Friends. These “first ever” Ozzy & Friends shows will feature appearances by “special guest” musicians including Geezer Bulter (who will join Ozzy for a special Black Sabbath set as a show of respect and support to their friend, Tony Iommi) and longtime former Ozzy band member Zakk Wylde. In addition, Ozzy will be accompanied by longtime collaborator and friend Slash at select shows, with other “special guests” set to join the tour at various stops along the way (full list of dates, appearances below).
Tony Iommi continues to make excellent progress and is looking forward to getting back out on the road. Meanwhile, Black Sabbath continues to write and record music in the U.K. for their upcoming album. More information about these dates and Black Sabbath's recording and touring plans is forthcoming.
The drama between Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward and the band is still unfolding, with the latest update from Ward sounding hopeful that the band will find a common ground and record the new album together.

New Jersey's Dark Empire is returning to the scene with a third release this March entitled "From Refuge to Ruin." Noisecreep.com is now hosting an exclusive premiere of a track from Dark Empire's new album. The song entitled "The Crimson Portrait" can be heard here. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Dominating through the intricate songwriting are powerful new vocalist Brian Larkin (who replaces Jens Carlsson of Persuader and Savage Circus fame) and the commanding riffs of lead guitarist/main songwriter Matt Moliti, who also lends a chilling death vocal counterpoint to Larkin's leather-throated melodic lines. In addition to Moliti's elaborate guitar work and Larkin's attention- grabbing vocals, Dark Empire features the deep resonance of bassist Randy Knecht and the 'Dave Lombardo-meets-Gavin Harrison' drumming of session player Matt Graff.
"Not being ones to repeat themselves, Dark Empire has injected fresh new influences into their follow up to their 2008 release 'Humanity Dethroned.' Taking a cue from 70's prog masters such as Genesis and King Crimson, Dark Empire inventively utilize vintage Mellotron and Hammond Organ samples throughout the album, as well as delicate 12-string acoustic interludes and haunting, atmospheric melodies (coming to full fruition in the powerfully epic title track). This is not to undermine the push Dark Empire has also made in the heavier end of the dynamic spectrum, now utilizing seven-string guitars, crushing doom metal moments, and blistering death metal-inspired riffs. For older fans, these new elements serve to compliment, not overshadow, the band's thrashy progressive metal roots, and the 13-minute-plus dark and doomy album closer 'The Cleansing Fires' serves as a musical culmination of the broadened range of styles found throughout.
"With pristine and powerful production from Jeremy Krull and artwork by Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Firewind, Morbid Angel) along with fresh creative input and exceptional talent, Dark Empire will surely become the new cross-over favorite for any metal fan." More...

Exiled Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has launched the latest internet salvo back at Black Sabbath. In a post on Facebook, Ward stated:
Dear Sabbath Fans,
I wanted to let you know where things are at, from my point of view, as of today, February 17, 2012.
As my statement of February 2, 2012 indicated, I have not declined to participate in the Sabbath album and tour. At the earliest opportunity, I am prepared to go to the U.K. and record, and later tour with the band.
Last week, we sent further communication to the attorney handling the negotiations to try to reach an agreement. At this time we are waiting to hear back. I remain hopeful for a “signable” contract and a positive outcome.
I want to thank everyone who has voiced and posted their opinions, thoughts, support and love through all media, including the newly constructed sites. I applaud your worldwide reaction in support of the original band. And speaking for myself, your intent and truth will always be respected.
While believing in your freedom for expression, keep in mind that Tony, Ozzy and Geezer are still my lifetime friends, and I cannot support comments with an objectifying or derogatory theme toward them or their various representatives.
Many thanks to all of you. You are truly phenomenal.
Stay safe, stay strong.
Rumors swirled about the involvement of Sharon Osbourne in "firing" Ward, an allegation that was "dismissed" by Ms. Osbourne, as you can see in the video below.

Opeth guitarist Fredrik Åkesson caught up with Indian Rock at the Hard Rock Café in Bangalore a week ago to speak about Fredrik joining the band, the new album "Heritage," guitar techniques and effects, and much more. Check out an extract from the interview below:
Mikhail: After you did your tour with Arch Enemy (featured on their DVD) and you joined Opeth how has the transition been from that band to Opeth?
Fredrik: It was different but luckily for me I got to join the band in the writing process for watershed which was a good thing. So if I compare it to arch enemy I was basically playing Chris Amott’s parts but in Opeth I got to be part of the band and more involved. Of course music is very different. Opeth demands different styles of guitar playing and I had to practice to learn Mikael’s style of guitar playing. I was a fan of the band before but it is a different thing listening and playing music. Now I have been in the band almost 5 years now so I feel very comfortable with this style.
Mikhail: Back to "Heritage." When Roadrunner released the final album artwork, there were mixed opinions because it is very different from all the other Opeth album covers including Watershed. Who came up with the concept for the artwork?
Fredrik: Our manager Andy actually came up with the concept of the tree. He said I see a tree. It was collaboration between him and Mikael. He had a dream. Travis Smith did the artwork; he has done all the artwork since "Still Life" I believe. I think it connects with the 70's prog rock feel that the music on the album has. It is more like an oil painting design. It is a bit fun but it is also dark. There’s symbolism in there. The burning city and the 9 stars in the sky which represent the other Opeth albums. The sun is the 10th which is "Heritage." You have the death metal roots with the devil and hell at the bottom.
Mikhail: On to some guitar questions. You just told us that you have been with Marshall for 2 days now officially and PRS. What effects do you use? More...

When you hear the news that a metal icon has died, you always remember what you were doing at that moment in time. It was the summer of 2004 and the end of a long day of work for me. Sifting through the news and portals, the headline "Quorthon Dies at 38" hit me like a lead ballast. What was so haunting about it was that I had just been playing "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" a few days earlier. Quorthon - the man, the legend - gone so soon. How could this be?
It is ironic that in the strange world we live in, an artist’s status becomes glorified after their demise. They may have been legendary and innovative in what they created and did in the musical realm while they were living and they may have fallen off the radar for a while - but their death brings their accomplishments front and center. After Quorthon's death the metal community really took stock in him, the artist, and his immeasurable contributions to metal.
When you die, you are instantly immortalized. Quorthon's passing, especially at a young age, made him into an icon. But in the eyes of a true innovator, he did not see himself that way. Humble, funny and self-effacing, Quorthon proved to be a very down to earth musician who created for the sake. He shrugged off his own accolades and press releases and never believed the hype of all the praises. This is the true measure of accomplishment - let others sing your glory and don't get sucked into it.
During the height of his creative period, Quorthon conducted a few interviews as time permitted. This one comes from 1997, and for fifteen years it has been an undiscovered gem collecting dust. That's the beauty of finding this rare recording, in that all these years later it resurfaces and becomes a voice from the grave. Now that Quorthon is legendary, this interview may be appreciated more than when he was alive. The old school fans and the new devotees may get a rare and personal glimpse into the personality of a man who influenced two genres of metal, a soul who cannot speak again in the flesh. Join us today as we take another glimpse into the man, the legend - Quorthon - on what would have been his 46th birthday.

Below is a complete transcript of a never before aired or published interview with Quorthon, conducted via telephone during the promotion of his second solo album in May of 1997. Both the transcript and the accompanying streaming audio of the interview are released today, on what would have been his 46th birthday, for the very first time, as our respectful tribute. We hope that his family and friends, as well as admirers of his music and talent, would appreciate hearing him speak to us from 15 years ago, as much as we do.
Quorthon had often expressed frustration over being misquoted and misrepresented by the press, so, with that in mind, and in order to accurately preserve every nuisance and nuance of the interview, both the audio and the transcript are presented in their unabridged forms.

Initially planned for release in January, Brooklyn bastards Vise Massacre’s debut LP "Expendable Humans" has been delayed due to circumstances beyond the band’s control. The band issued the following press release:
"Something got jacked with the master and had to be corrected, but it’s not really interesting or important… we’re just here to spread the word that the LPs are being packed now, and set for arrival at the end of the month, which will allow Expendable Humans to finally trample mankind on March 6th. Direct links for digital and physical orders will be available in the days ahead.
"In the meantime Vise Massacre busy running up bar tabs, skulking on hipsters, and honing their live attack skills in preparation for some live actions to be confirmed in the coming weeks in support of the delayed release of Expendable Humans, which the band are releasing via their own Gorilla The Horse Records through the tight-knit hometown cooperative efforts with NYC’s Generation Records and Earsplit.
"The band also got trashed the other night and set up a raffle where 8 diehards can win T-shirts made by the band, limited versions of the LP and other random/unique/creepy handmade VISE MASSACRE creations. The more you fuck with the band via Facebook/Twitter between now and March 3rd the more chances thou hath of winning some gnarly swag. Check out the details at VM’s Facebook."
