Ranging through every era of the band, and including newer experiments, our collective energy and creativity was reborn and still exploding at a level beyond what we could have imagined. True Mortal Decay fans will get a taste of all levels of our musical direction at its finest.”

In celebration of its forthcoming release this Tuesday, Metal Insider will be streaming Eight Bells’ "The Captain’s Daughter" debut in its entirety for a limited time.
Engineered by sound mastermind Billy Anderson, "The Captain’s Daughter" features four organic soundscapes that merge serenity with severity. Lose yourself with "The Captain’s Daughter" over at this location. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Eight Bells features within its ranks SubArachnoid Space alumni Melynda Jackson and Christopher Van Huffel. A native of rural Texas now based in Portland, Oregon, Jackson’s Eight Bells continues in SAS’ tradition of heavy guitar exploration, adding a blackened dissonance to the mix and minimalist vocals. Jackson is accompanied by classically trained six-string bassist Haley Westeiner who created the centerpiece vocals on 'Fate and Technology' and also provides harmonic counterpoint to Jackson’s newly discovered vocalizations.
"Van Huffel resumes the throne he occupied for ten years, bringing his thunderous, nuanced double kick playing with him. With this power trio, Jackson has found a group that brings focus and support to her unapologetically expressionistic experimental metal music."
"The Captain’s Daughter" will be released via Seventh Rule Recordings February 19th, 2013. Order your copy right here.

Today radio portal NPR (National Public Radio) brings forth “The Nonlocality Trilemma,” from sci-fi death metal space voyagers, Wormed. Check out the song right here.
The exclusive track premiere comes from the band’s forthcoming studio outing, "Exodromos." Commended for its “astronomically high mindfuck factor” by Decibel Magazine, the 10-track production serves as the prequel to "Planisphaerium" (originally released in 2003 in Japan then remastered last year by Willowtip), which centers itself around futuristic science concepts and chaotic visions of the last human left in the cosmos.
Recorded at Sadman Studios in Madrid, Spain and mastered by Mika Jussila (Amorphis, Impaled Nazarene, Children of Bodom, Nightwish etc.) at the infamous Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland, "Exodromos" will be unleashed upon the masses on March 26th, 2013 via Willowtip Records. The album is now available for pre-order right here. More...

It probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise that metal isn't well represented in the annual Grammy awards, with possibly our most noticeable wins coming from Slayer in 2007 and 2008.
This year wasn't an exception, and unfortunately there isn't much wiggle room for actual metal acts to win when hard rock and heavy metal are lumped into a single category.
None of our "Best of 2012" winners here at Metalunderground.com made the nominations, and fully heavy bands only managed to get into the "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" category at the Grammy's this year. The nominees were:
"Love Bites (So Do I)" – Halestorm
"I'm Alive" – Anthrax
"Blood Brothers" (live) – Iron Maiden
"Ghost Walking" – Lamb of God
"No Reflection" – Marilyn Manson
"Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)" – Megadeth
In a move that will likely leave metal fans scratching their heads, but will please fans of the mainstream, Halestorm took home the win for "Love Bites (So Do I)." Footage of the event and Halestorm's acceptance of the Grammy can be viewed below, courtesy of Artisan News Service.
In other news of interest to hard rock and metal lovers, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails snagged a Grammy win for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" soundtrack in the category of "Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media," along with a related win for "Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package" for the same soundtrack. Seattle doom merchants Samothrace will embark on a U.S. Winter tour in support of the "Reverence To Stone" LP with a hometown show tonight.
For the duration of the tour, Samothrace will be performing "Reverence To Stone" in its entirety each night. Joined by Metal Blade doom trio Pilgrim for the majority of the trek, the tour will make a mangled, counter-clockwise loop through the Midwest, Gulf Coast, Southeast and up the East Coast, with eighteen cities confirmed to endure slow motion turmoil during the venture.
The tour is sponsored by Invisible Oranges, which today posted a pre-tour feature on the band. On the creation of Samothrace’s mammoth but infectious hymns, guitarist Brian Spinks states, “Our songs start with a set of riffs and we play it a couple different ways and play until it varies. We spend a lot of time making sure everything flows together and when we play the song over and over, the riffs then start to evolve and morph in and out of each other.”
In a recent MetalSucks tour feature, Samothrace drummer Joe Axler commented, “When we perform these songs live most of the time we end up actually playing some parts slower and some parts faster depending on the mood we are in and the feeling we are getting in the room and from the people in attendance. We feed off of the people in the crowd greatly and (without sounding too hippy) the general aura at each show has a huge affect on how our set goes.” More...
WormHoleDeath has checked in with the following announcement about Inside I deciding to call it a day:
"Sadly, we have to announce that we just received bad news from Norwegian deathcore combo Inside I. After less than 5 months following to their album release Inside I officially disbanded. In these moments there’s not much to be said, sadness prevails all over our feelings."
The band also commented: ”For six years we’ve been at it. We have climbed mountains, we’ve swallowed pride and we’ve met resistance that should have made us crumble and give up. It has been a hard journey, and we’re proud to have come as far as we did. We have met people that has changed our lives in small but important ways, and people who we’d strangle and beat in the blink of an eye, but such is the life of music. But despite all the support and love we’ve met, it has come to this. Inside I is no more.
"Because of his waning love for performing music, Rune Olsen has seen the need to focus his time on his personal life and dedicate time to find a new path to walk. We tried to replace him, but as with most bands, it’s just not the same if a founding member leaves. Shortly after his decision, Roberth Strand decided to focus on his education and professional life as well, which left the rest of us no longer capable of performing our music. There are no hard feelings, and we all support the decision to walk new paths in life. More...
Savannah, GA's Black Tusk has commenced work on new material for an upcoming EP, scheduled to be released later this Spring via Relapse Records. Drummer James May commented on the progress of the release:
"This new release is a mean one. It reminds me of a new twist on an old days Black Tusk sound. We got back together with Jay and Phillip Cope to turn this out with some of that earlier, brutal sound you might have heard back in the beginning albums. We figured it was about time to see what the old gang could do years later."

After a short touring break following a massive assault with Napalm Death and Municipal Waste, gore metal purveyors Exhumed will take sonic raucousness to the streets once again this week.
This time the road warriors will be systematically blasting their home state of California alongside grind cohorts Phobia - the frenzy will begin tomorrow, February 15th in Lancaster, followed by beatings in San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Fullerton, Ventura, Santa Cruz, Modesto, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco on the nine city assault.
Stated Exhumed's Matt Harvey on the affair: “We haven't played a show in... well; it's been over a month, so things have been way too quiet. So we're psyched to get into some of the nooks and crannies of the golden state with our old buddies in Phobia. We've totally re-vamped our set, and we'll be rolling out a track from the new record this time around as well, so the show will be all new even for our friends and family locally who've been subjected to our racket a few times recently already. We've been talking about getting on the road with Shane the pain and crew for a long time, so this little jaunt is well overdue. We hope to see a bunch of mutants, maniacs, earth dogs, rivet heads, gorehounds, toe cutters and eye gougers out there on the road! Cheers!" More...

The video was directed by DJ Cosgrove (War Of Ages, Eliacim Martínez, Redbull), and STK’S guitarist Mike Entin shares:
“This was one of our first songs we wrote as a band; we felt like it was a good way to introduce us to the world. Not only was it one of our first songs, but this was also our first professionally filmed music video. It was a very long and grueling process, but director DJ Cosgrove and the rest of Robby Starbuck's team made it an amazing experience. Can't wait to show everyone what else we have in stored for 2013.”
Formed during the winter of 2011, Speaking the King's demos quickly captured the attention of A Day To Remember producer, songwriter, and former guitarist Tom Denney (Pierce The Veil, Secrets), who ushered the band into his Florida-based studio to record a first arsenal of music. Bryan Holland of U.S. act Reverence has checked in with the following announcement about suffering a hand injury:
"Hello friends and Reverence fans... I was wanting to keep this as quiet as possible as I'm not looking for any sympathy or pity party but the recent event has slipped out there and I have been getting a lot of questions so I felt I would just update everyone that cares on the current situation.
"As you can see on these photos, I managed to break a bone in my left hand during a recent accident a couple of weeks ago. The X-ray photos show the break clearly, the bottom two photos show the exterior trauma with an odd purple circle on my palm and yellowing on the back of my hand. I also managed to tear up my knuckles as well as twisting my left ankle pretty badly.
"I have managed to come pretty far since the initial incident but it will take several more weeks to be back to 100%. Pete Rossi and I had gotten together before the accident to begin working on initial ideas for the next Reverence album and follow-up to 'When Darkness Calls' which I can report are pretty wicked and very heavy (see youtube video of a teaser riff on our YT channel.) if I do say so myself... but this incident has put the breaks on our planned writing sessions until at least mid-late March but a full recovery is expected and I should be all back to writing with Todd and Pete by then and ready for our planned Euro and East Coast tours this fall.
"Thank you all for your kinds words of encouragement and well wishes."
