Polish death metallers Deivos have announced their new album "Gospel of Maggots" will be released through Unique Leader Records on February 16th, 2010. The band also issued the following statement about the record deal:
"We've always had great respect for Unique Leader Records as an excellent label that puts out quality death metal, so we are extremely proud to join the league of Unique Leader bands! We're sure that with the support from Erik and his crew we will be able to get our music across and make Deivos a recognizable name to extreme metal fans worldwide. All of us are looking forward to a great cooperation with Unique Leader, starting with the release of our second album, Gospel Of Maggots in February 2010. Keep an eye for this onslaught of relentless death metal!"
Michael Sweet of Christian glam rockers Stryper has issued the following statement about recording an album composed entirely of cover songs:
"Hey Everyone, Just as promised, I wanted to outline some more details regarding the new Stryper record. We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Van Halen, UFO, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kansas and many others, helped to shape our sound and make us who we are today, musically speaking.
"We grew up on the streets of LA playing every club in town from Gazzari's to The Whisky to The Troubadour to you name it. We played covers from all the bands mentioned above and we shaped our own sound from listening and performing songs from these classic bands.
"We wanted to step outside the box and record a record that shows you, the fans, where we come from - our historical, musical roots so to speak. It's a side to Stryper that no one has really seen or heard before, or at least quite like this. We performed 'On Fire' by Van Halen on a few tours and we also performed 'Breaking The Law' by Priest on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear Stryper cover these songs and even more surprised to hear Stryper perform these songs relatively well. This will be an opportunity for Robert, Oz, Tim and myself to loosen up and have some fun. More...
Finland's Dead Shape Figure has issued the following update about their first live show of the year:
"We are playing a special show with our friends Amoral and Ghoul Patrol next month in Vernissa, Tikkurila. The show is kind of 'special' for us cause it's gonna be probably our only Finnish-date for this fall. We're gonna play lots of new shit from our new album 'The Disease Of St. Vitus' which is not even released yet as you know so it's gonna exciting for us too. And the fact that we haven't rehearsed or even jammed together (except the new years-show) after the studio makes the show even...raw? ...or sloppy might be the better word. But tomorrow we are finally getting the new rehearsal space running so maybe we'll try to rehearse few times before the show...PSYCHE! Ps. News about the release date of 'The Disease Of St. Vitus' coming up soon..."
The details of the show are as follows:
3/26 2010 Vernissa Tikkurila, Uusimaa
Fallen Martyr are currently on the "Metal As Art" tour supporting Hypno5e and Starring Janet Leigh. The band has posted a video blog from the first week of the tour, which can be viewed below.
Vocalist Ehsan Kalantarpour of Swedish metal act Slumber has issued the following recording update:
"Captains logg, Amsterdam, night time. I'm at the hotel lobby 2:26am writing to you. We have finished our intense four weeks of recording. Even though we spent five years preparing, four weeks were hardly enough for the massive nature of this album. But needless to say, maybe no time had ever been enough. Everything just keeps growing and growing. Now only vocals and mixing remains which will be done within the month.
"Anyways... good people of Rome, Babylon and Atlantis.. Hear ye, hear ye. We have now an album unprecedented in thousands of ways coming to you. A journey that will take you from the deep oceanic craters to the peaks of power and euphoria. We are ourselves, like strangers, mesmerized by the titan that is appearing before us. In a few weeks we will post an album preview song and some videos from the studio. And now, back to the dark streets of Amsterdam."
For the first time in over twenty years, two amazing metal bands from the sludge-covered city of New Orleans shared a stage. The crowds came out in droves for the show, bearing the freezing temperatures to see what will be considered a landmark show. There were many familiar faces in attendance, but the large amount of middle-aged non-metalheads was staggering. I can only speculate that these people came because Exhorder was one of their favorites as a kid, and even though they don’t like metal anymore, they wanted to see a band from their youth. It was similar to the crowd from their first show in years in November 2009 that had even less younger people. Regardless of the differences in the crowd, everyone had a great time watching the incredible event unfold. More...
Wisconsin female fronted metal band Luna Mortis has announced that they have decided to disband. Lead guitarist Brian Koenig issued the following statement regarding their decision to disband:
"I regret to say that as of today the band will be dissolving and we will be going our separate ways. A huge thanks from the bottom of our hearts for the fans and support we have received over the course of the last 9 years. It has been an exciting and often turbulent ride, but everything must come to an end eventually. Unfortunately, we will be unable to go on the May tour with Primal Fear, so our apologies to the people who were looking forward to hanging with us out on the road. To our local fans, we will more than likely be playing one more Madison show sometime in the next few months, we'll keep everyone posted"
Luna Mortis was recently dropped from Century Media Records. In December vocalist Mary Zimmer commented on their uncertain future as a band after being dropped by their label, "Does this mean Luna Mortis will not be releasing another album? No. It just means that soon, we will be label-less and have a few decisions to make about what our next move will be and what we'd like to do in regard to the future of the band."

This will be their first Texas shows ever, so everyone needs to come out and represent Texas Metal Pride. Also on the tour will be new Deathgasm Records recording artists Blaspherian! Anyone who has seen this band live knows what a totally heavy death metal performance they will bring. Death Metal done the old true way! The Funeral Pyre has issued the following studio update:
"So, we've been at Awkward Studios putting together our latest record. All of the drums have been tracked, most of the guitars have been tracked, and we've put down 2 songs with vocals. This process has been new to us, being that this is the first time we've tracked our own record. It's definitely been a learning experience, but thus far we feel this has been better for the sound, or music, or whatever it is that we really do. None the less, we are extremely excited about this record. We have 11 songs (with probably 3 more that we'll record immeidately following this recording process) but not all 11 will make the final record. I think we'll go with about 9 songs on this release. Is it different than our previous record? I guess so. Do we think people will like it? Who knows. But we're stoked, and we honestly hope that you will be. More updates coming soon."

Just one Unearthing for my fair city of New Orleans wouldn’t work. We have so many bands here, they’re breaking the levees! Here’s three more incredible bands to give you a NOLA fix. There is an amendment to the previous Unearthing the Metal Underground: New Orleans; Tire Fire is not crustpunk. “We hate crusties,” vocalist Matt Muscle told me at the Pentagram show. But whatever they are, it’s fierce and Matt is a madman on stage. More...
