Decibel Magazine's site has an entry that poses the question "What If Bands Were Beers?" where they mesh band names and logos/album artwork with beers and beer labels. It's nothing amazing but is pretty well done.

British heavy metal legends Saxon has revealed that they will be releasing their classic song "747 (Strangers In The Night)" this year to celebrate the bands 30th anniversary. A post from frontman Biff Byford reads as follows:
"Just a few more words from the road; sat in Berlin having a few wines with Doug, Thomas and Ulf (Herman The German). Tour is going fantastic. Off to Eastern Europe tomorrow. Just a bit more juicy news, as you know we have just shot the first ever Heavy metal 3D video of 'Battalions Of Steel'. It is also our 30th anniversary this year, so SPV is going to release '747 (Strangers In The Night)' as a commemorative single, included in the package will be the video of 'Battalions' and the 3D glasses."

Los Angeles metallers Eyes of Noctum have issued the following statement about replacing their guitarist:
"Just wanted to let you know that we had a lineup change last week. We have parted ways with Asmodeus. His departure was strictly professional and there is no bad blood between us. We all wish him best of luck in his future endeavors and we will always remain friends. Also we want to thank him for being very business minded and understanding throughout the entire time we have been together. We'd also like everyone to welcome our new lead guitarist Nebron. We are all really looking forward to working together with him in light of the fact that he is a brilliant musician and an amazing person. Stay metal."
Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman recently spoke with Spiritech of PyroMusic.net to discuss a variety of subjects. During the interview, the subject of a new album came up. You can check out an excerpt below.
Spiritech: Indeed. Have you begun writing material for the next album yet, and if so, how is it shaping up?
Ben Weinman: "Yes I have a lot of music in the works. Most of it is pretty aggressive but who knows how it will end up."
Swedish death metal band The Project Hate has issued the following recording update:
"As we have mentioned there’s only 3 songs left to do vocals for for J… Now when we have the Torture Division gig at the Close Up Boat out of the way hopefully J can nail a tune or 2 before the gig at House Of Metal. Keep your fingers crossed coz there’s not too much work left to do you know… As said before as well; it’s really fucken cool to have Dan starting to mix this already and he’s just sitting about waiting for the remaining vocals before he can continue. In the meantime he’s doing some corrections that we hand over so we are actually working with what we got even though all the vocals aren’t completed yet, so it’s not like we are sitting on our asses doing nothing, just so you have that clear, haha… You know you will be kept updated as we move along."
German death metal band D.A.M.N. has issued the following update about their upcoming album:
"Our new album will be entitled Forbidden Anger and will contain the following 10 tracks:
1. Urt La Bu Tal
2. Lost In Lines
3. Close to The Boarder
7. First Class Suicide
8. Forbidden Anger
9. Across The Street
10. Hall Of Fame
"Somehow people got the information that we are on a label called pure mind records. That is NOT true. We are searching for a label and hope to find now that we have our new album almost done. We were very surprised to find that information on blabbermouth and other magazines and forums so this is a big dementi and I hope this will also be spread all over the internet and Mars!"
The cover art for the new album can be viewed here.
The Spanish (Alicante and Murcia) black/death metal band MORTIS CRUENTUS recently released their first album "Agony As Doom." The California-based classic hard rock act Snew has been riding a wave of success since the release of their debut album, "Snew You." They’ve been tearing up the music scene in Los Angeles, performing live at a multitude of clubs, and they have much bigger plans for this summer.
But it’s been far from breezy for the band, who opted not to go the traditional route of signing with a big music label. Instead, the band has developed Snew World Order, a combination fan club and promotion web site, and has relied heavily on the internet, independent radio and music stores, and fans to spread the word about Snew.
I recently had the opportunity to chat with singer Curtis Don Vito about Snew’s success thus far, their shows, and their upcoming plans. More...
Torture Division has issued the following statement about the recent Close Up Boat show:
"We had a fantastic time at the Close Up Boat and wanna thank everyone involved for making it an unforgettable day of death metal and carnage. Naturally Peter Andersson, Sophie Linder and Close Up Magazine’s editor Robban deserves the biggest cheers. Not to forget our fantastic Sillboy of Vicious Art who helped out with pretty much everything at all time. You guys are phenoms.
"It was tremendous to see so many people there so early in the day and we can never thank you enough for showing us your support. We take a bow to the heroes creating the pits and to everyone in the front row who did nothing but help us to create a great show and enjoy themselves to the fullest. Thank you people, thank you so much. Also, thanx to Peter Herneheim who helped us out with some new band photos that we will display at this site asap (you can watch some of them at our MySpace in the meantime if you feel like it), he also took a bunch of live shots that we will post when we get them. In the meantime we are now gearing up for the House Of Metal Festival and the gig in Karlstad. Those 2 events will have a hard time beating what the Close Up Boat did for us, but our expectations are sky rocketing, just so you know, haha… More...
Swedish stoner rock band Sparzanza has issued the following update about bringing on a new guitar player:
"Hey! First of all a big thanks to all of you that came to our release party this friday! We had a blast! Hope that all of you had fun! And also a big welcome to Magnus Eronen, who is the new guitarplayer in Sparzanza!!! Why don't you all wish him the best by signing our guestbook!"
Irish folk metal band Waylander has issued the following band update about losing their live guitarist Gaz:
"It is with angry hearts that we are forced to share this news with you. Just over 2 weeks ago it came to our attention that guitarist Gaz had no intention of either being a member of Waylander nor of fulfilling his live commitments. He had decided to go on tour with another band and hadn't even the decency to let us know in advance. We had our gigs at Winternoise Festival in Germany and a headlining show in London to think about but rather than take the easy option and cancel our performances, we asked original guitarist Dermot O'Hagan to fill in for these gigs and despite not having played electric guitar and Metal in about half a dozen years and only having time to fit in one full rehearsal, i think we can all be proud of both, his, and our efforts and performances at these 2 shows. We are considering our options at the moment but rest assured, no shows or plans that we have, will be put on hold. It's takes more than a knife in the back to stop us. More...
Norway's Chrome Division, featuring Dimmu Borgir's Shagrath has issued the following update about an upcoming live show with Susperia vocalist Athera:
"To all Germans, and all else as well.
"Chrome Division will participate on the Winterfire Festival in Giessen / Hessenhallen the 21th of February. At last they get their asses out of Norway to play. Unfortunately their lead singer Eddie Guz will not attend, but they bring an session vocalist. The very brilliant Athera of Susperia is set to fill the gap. So all Germans and such, you know what to do next weekend."

Metal Blade Records has announced the signing of END. from Toulouse, France.
Much like fellow homeland heroes Gojira, END. employs a signature sound that can immediately be identified as their own. Their technicality, complex and brutal structures coupled with doses of dark and apocalyptic moods, makes their music addicting, according to the label.
The band comments on the collaboration with Metal Blade: "We are extremely proud to announce Metal Blade signed us and that they will release our first album in the spring! All the band members of END. are glad to join a roster of such great and talented bands. It's been a long road full of work so far and we are now excited to work even harder and tour as much as possible!"
END. has recently finished work on their first album which is set for release this summer. More details on the album will be revealed soon. In themeantime, you can check out some of their material on their MySpace page.

Chevelle, who has been working on a new album for some time, is about to start recording. Here's the update from the band:
"Hey there. Just wanted to let everyone know what is going on in the world of Chevelle. For the last 6 months we have been writing and working on our new record, and finally we are at the recording stage. We are out in Nashville working with Brian Virtue in his personal studio. The weather is great and its an environment conducive to writing and working. We have spent a lot of time making these songs something different from past records, without losing the core of our passion. We are a hard rock, melodic band and its still what drives us as musicians. We have also started to book a tour in the U.S. (Europe coming later in the year) and are working on a package of bands we would like to play with. Who do you want us to tour with?
"We are also going to start posting some photos of us in the studio and maybe even some video if anything looks good. There are lots of ideas and art flying around the offices so look for a new website and myspace designs coming up. Cheers and thanks for checking in."
Florida death metal band Massacre have issued the following update about their line-up changes and legal challenges:
"That's right... MASSACRE is going to be going under 'new' management with a very well known and respected individual and great friend... a veteran in the metal scene himself, and the hope is that with his assistance and management skills - that MASSACRE will be able to finally get over these "legal issues" and problems it has been faced with for the last several years... finally breaking out of these "legal chains" that have been holding the band in "legal limbo" for the past several years - and finally allowing Kam Lee to move forwards with creating an all "new" MASSACRE line up for 2010! Announcement will be made when all has been finalised. "
Revolution Renaissance has issued the following update about postponing the release date of their upcoming album:
"The release date has been postponed for two weeks. It needed to be synchronized with Far East JVC release date of 25.3.2009. The new date is Monday 23.3.2009.
"In the meantime we would like to give you another gift: the title track of the album "Age Of Aquarius". It is DRM free, high quality bandwith MP3 that you can use in any way you wish to. Additionally we are posting on our website the first and the last pages of the 16 page booklet that comes with the release so you can see how the cover looks like."
