San Francisco based doom rockers Orchid have set April 26th, 2013 as the release date for the band's new album, "The Mouths Of Madness." The cover artwork was created by singer & tattoo artist Theo Mindell and can be found below. Mindell comments on the cover:
"I wanted the cover of the album to be really classic and strong, like one of the records from my childhood where when you'd see the colors and shapes on it from across the room, you'd immediately recognize it. A classic 'icon'... so it's very simple really. But then I did a really elaborate painting for the inside that is totally ornate... I wanted people to open this kind of sparse, plain thing and be drawn into another world that kind of visually told the story of some of the emotions of the record. Kind of like peeling a weird fruit open... the inner painting was really inspired by some of the Latino psychedelic murals that were done around San Francisco in the late 60's-early 70's....like the cover of Abraxsis by Santana which is a record I grew up on and always loved. So, it's the 'Orchid version' of those murals."
Guitarist Mark Thomas Baker comments on the extensive production process: "Most of the tracks on 'Mouths of Madness' were cut in early June 2012. We were pretty fresh off of our European tour and full of confidence. The basics done at that time were the best recording experience that we've had so far. Everybody got along great and did great work. We did this album with a completely different guitar sound than 'Capricorn.' I think it sounds much heavier in that regard. We take a lot of time to get things right. I hope people enjoy it and let it sink in. I think it's miles above our past efforts." More...
Chicago's Czar emerges with a huge announcement for Spring 2013: the band has secured the coveted direct support slot on Killing Joke's North American tour.

In addition to the Killing Joke tour, Spring 2013 sees Czar support KMFDM on three shows and playing various headlining shows across the nation. Frontman Novak's electronic alter ego, Acucrack, will make post-show DJ appearances in several cities.
While gearing up to hit the road, Czar is completing work on a second full-length album, the follow-up to 2011's "Vertical Mass Grave" (produced by Hum's Matt Talbott). More...
Satanic Threat is streaming the entirety of the "In To Hell" collection on Decibel magazine's website. Check out the tracks right here or in the player below. The following press release was also issued:
"Already available on CD through Hells Headbangers's webstore and with the vinyl to follow in March, Satanic Threat are everything their name implies: fast, blasphemous, hardcore-HELL-punk straight outta the wastelands of Ohio!
"Featuring current members of Nunslaughter and an ex-member of Midnight, Satanic Threat's lone In To Hell 7" sold through its original pressing of 1000 copies in no time flat upon its original release in 2008, and quickly became something of a mini-classic. The band's cult grew despite no further releases, and Satanic Threat played only one live show ever, in September 2008 in their hometown of Cleveland.
"Now, Hells Headbangers collects Satanic Threat's entire ouvre, both the 8-song In To Hell 7" and their 8-song live set, onto one long-playing format. They're not Christian...they're just a Satanic Threat!" More...

British Columbia’s volatile hardcore/punk faction Baptists will release debut LP "Bushcraft" via Southern Lord next Tuesday, February 19th in North America. Baptists today unloads the battering title track from "Bushcraft" via Cvlt Nation here. The following press release was also issued about the LP:
"While Baptists’ debut 7” immediately turned heads scene-wide, Bushcraft is ripping them right off. Recorded at Godcity Studio with Kurt Ballou, the eleven anthems on Bushcraft embody lyrical angst and a seething vocal delivery propelled by white-knuckled snare-blasts, d-beat thunder, dissonant riff urgency and an overall relentless by-the-throat approach, advocating the band’s creed of destruction through a blistering, discordant hybrid of punk-fueled hardcore.
"Stay tuned for Baptists tour dates to be announced next week including a trek to SXSW in Austin, Texas. In the meantime the band has locked down a hometown record release show for Bushcraft, set to take place at The Biltmore in Vancouver."

Two weeks ago, Fit For A King announced a March 12th release date for the band's Solid State Records debut, "Creation/Destruction." The band is now pleased to share a new song from the album titled “Hollow King (Sound of the End)." Head over to Noisecreep.com here to check out the song.
"’Hollow King’ is a very unique track for me, lyrically,” explains vocalist Ryan Kirby. “It's a story of a person that sees his friend slip into the Devil’s grasp because of the ‘God-free’ view he instilled upon him. The person then decides to go after and save his friend, which he does without faith that God can remedy the situation. During his mission to save his friend, he also falls into the Devil’s clutches. Near the middle of the song, Satan is mocking his lack of faith. The friend in the story ends up actually being himself, hence the lyrics ‘staring face to face and eye to eye with the man who abandoned everything’. This song doesn't have a happy ending, giving it a dark vibe.”
The album was recorded with producer Andreas Magnusson and follows several years of relentless DIY touring and an independently released album (2011’s "Descendents"). More...
Relapse Records this week unveils a pummeling upcoming split between two prime acts in the contemporary doom/sludge circuit, Cough and Windhand. The following press release was issued about the collaboration:
"With both Cough and Windhand hailing from the unrestrained Richmond, Virginia underground, the choice to team the two of them up for the brutal Reflection Of The Negative split album was a simple one, and the results are, as expected, thunderous and immense. Cough leads off, delivering a characteristically electrifying down-tuned epic track, while their brethren in Windhand serve up two brand new epic songs for their half of the dirge.
"While the track listing bears merely three tracks, this monstrous split bears nearly forty minutes of premier doom at its absolute gloomiest. The album acts as a precursor for both bands’ upcoming full-lengths, which are both currently being conceived.
"Reflection Of The Negative will see official release on April 16th in North America, preceded by international street dates of April 12th (Germany/Benelux) and April 15th (UK/World). Today Relapse has released a visual trailer for the LP, as well as preorders for the album including digital and CD formats, as well as a super-limited mailorder-only black/white vinyl combo.
"In conjunction with the release of the split, COUGH will embark on a brutal month-long European tour. The majority of the dates will see the band joined by Witch Mountain, while several later dates will instead be with Grime, the entire trek leading up to Heavy Days in Doomtown. The festival, an international DIY doom/stoner/sludge festival in Copenhagen, Denmark, runs from May 2nd through the 5th, and will see COUGH sharing the stage alongside Graves At Sea, Pagan Altar, Samothrace, Moss, Bell Witch, Dark Buddah Rising, Lecherous Gaze, Mournful Congregation and many others." French black metal act Aosoth has revealed details on a forthcoming full-length album out on Agonia Records. The release entitled "IV: Arrow In Heart" will make its online and store debut on the 16th of April worldwide. The band comments:
"IV: Arrow In Heart holds yet a bigger spiritual meaning: We've spent such a huge amount of time on defining a darker identity, yet open to a wider range of influences. Those tracks still haunt us, as delivering them was a painful and excruciating experience, and left some of us even physically wounded... Which gives that album even more of a spiritual value, as it involved a form of sacrifice. This fourth full-length release is without a doubt a great step forward for us in term of music writing, and sound."

Pennsylvania metal act This Or The Apocalypse has launched an Indiegogo campaign today to try and stay on the road. The band is currently between tours supporting recently released LP, "Dead Years." Check out details on the crowdfunding campaign right here. The band also comments:
"We are This Or The Apocalypse, an internationally touring band from Lancaster, PA. On our way home from our 30th US tour at about 3:00am our van lit on fire and we broke down at a rest stop an hour away from home. After waiting 8 hours we found someone to pick up and our trailer up and take us home while our van was towed to a garage.
"After inspecting the van we were notified that it was far beyond repairable. For any of you who have never followed us in the past, last winter we broke down in Canada and spent over $3K rebuilding our fuel pump, which took over a week. We spent that week hopping from trains, vans, taxis and fans cars from show to show so that we didn't have to cancel any dates on the tour. More...

When asked about signing Viieden, Grindbor Record's manager JD commented: "It is great to sign a band like this one. Not only because of their professionalism and talent, but because they are one of the best samples of Syria's rising scene. We are a still a young label, so we aim this collaboration help us both to develop and show the world that the Middle Eastern Metal scene has come to kick some asses!" More...

As a follow-up to previous album "Lakhesis" (reviewed here), StarOfAsh will be recording and releasing a series of tracks each month throughout the year. StarOfAsh has now checked in with the following update about progress on tracks to be released later this month:
"January flew passed, greeted me swiftly with his cold hands, and all of a sudden the more tranquil February was on my calendar. Albeit it was not tranquility I felt, as I had composed close to nothing, and all of a sudden was short on my promise by two musical pieces. Deadline: The shortest month of the year… Thoughts: Calm panic…It´s not like I have been lazy or anything, but it has been a busy period with our friends from Leprous and Ørkenkjøtt doing their magic in the studio all of January.
"Fortunately I am a fast writer. Unfortunately I do not always have inspiration to write. So within these parameters I just had to start working from scratch. With these bad odds (totally self inflicted I know) I am happy to say that I have already written and recorded one piece, while working on the chord progression on the other.
"The way I interpret January and February, are that they are both dark and bright, have a 'hibernation' kind of feel and you need to be able to dance to them to keep warm. At least here in Norway you do! So I have composed my music to sound like that, or at least it sounds that way to me. I hope to present them both to you within this far too short month.
"Warm hugs to everyone out there feeling cold xx."

"'Blodsvept' is the track that sets the tone for this new abomination of an album. Pull out your sun-spectacles from your glove compartment and honk if you love blood and guts!"
"Blodsvept," which is Finntroll's sixth studio album, was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki while mastering duties were handled by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. Henri 'Trollhorn' Sorvali and the band produced the album, the artwork was handled by the band's own guitar player, Samuli 'Skyrmer' Ponsimaa, and even the production for the upcoming video clip will be the brainchild of the trolls...Because let's be honest, nobody knows how a Finntroll album should sound, look and smell better than the trolls themselves! Demonical has checked in with the following statement about the band's upcoming album:
"Since early February we have been isolated at Necromorbus Studios in the dark suburbs of Stockholm recording 'Darkness Unbound,' our fourth full-length masterpiece and the first album to feature our new determinate line-up. So far the drums for all 11 tracks have been recorded, now it’s time to move on and nail down some guitars.
"The new material is clearly our most sinister, vicious and dark work up until to date and we are confident that 'Darkness Unbound' will be an important milestone not only for us as a band but also an album that will have a certain impact on the current death metal scene and especially the Swedish old-school wave.
"The artwork and visual concept of the album follows the same somber path as the music making it a solid entity of perpetual death metal darkness. More reports will be published as the work proceeds." More...
