Swedish thrashers ALTAIR will team up with ENEMYNSIDE for two shows in Italy:
Feb. 23 - Rock House - Pescara, ITA
Feb. 24 - Jailbreak - Rome, ITA
In January 2007, ALTAIR recorded a dour-song demo containing the tracks "Preemptive Strike", "We vs. Us", the instrumental intro "Pyroclastic Flow" and "Altair Attack" in which the lyrics are completely made up of songtitles by classic thrash metal bands. Two of the songs, "Altair Attack" and "We vs. Us", were included on the "Thrashing The Masses 2" compilation released by Last Entertainment Productions in May 2007. All four tracks were then re-mixed and released on a self-financed demo EP called "Two" later that month. More...

"Lead Sails Paper Anchor", ATREYU's major label debut, arrived last summer and features the single "Becoming the Bull". The newest single from the disc is called "Falling Down".

Crown the Lost have issued a new studio blog from the recording of their upcoming album "Blind Faith Loyalty":
"Renaldi's cabin fever has subsided, and we're onto the recording of guitars. The last two weekends have been devoted to cutting guitar tracks, with Joe and myself hunkered down in the control room while Watson sits there and nit-picks our playing. This is truly Joe's time to shine (excuse the apparent lameness) - he handles the rhythms for all of his songs (5) and three of my songs. We've always operated this way largely because of budget and time restraints, but for the glaring fact that Joe could play these songs upside-down in a sandbox and they'd still come out sounding tight.
"Perhaps the biggest coup of the past two weekends was being able to use Tim from Grave Desire's (aka 'The Manticore') JSX guitar head, which has provided quite the searing and rigid guitar tone. This is our first time using this head and the results speak for themselves - the guitars are pretty nasty sounding, even when playing some of our more melodic material. We're quite delighted as to how our songs our turning out with this guitar sound, namely "Finality," "Defame the Hypocrite" and the title track, all of which have emerged to be album highlights.
"At this juncture, we're 90% finished with guitars, then it's onto bass. Vocals will begin next weekend, which means Renaldi can no longer sit in the studio lounge on my computer, searching for videos on the Internet depicting people defecating into each other's mouths. Such videos have caused a major backlog on this very computer, causing yours truly to spend the bulk of his Sunday trying to download virus software to weed this stuff out. As they say - Renaldi will be Renaldi. The dude just doesn't quit....."

Finnish warlords TURISAS have issued the following update:
"We hereby announce that we have been forced to hire a step-in accordion player to replace Lisko on all announced upcoming tourdates. We have an important show this Friday at Finnish Metal Expo (FIN) and two lengthy tours in UK/Europe and USA just around the corner — but no accordion player."
"The thing is, we played a cool show in Groningen, Netherlands on 11th January and everything was cool. Then the next day, before the flight, some of us decided to check out Amsterdam really quickly, by train. Lisko had behaved in a bit hazy way during the trip, but it was nothing that weird (considering he is Lisko); however, he never showed up back at the airport. We got an interesting phone call, where he told that due to 'special' reasons he wouldn't fly in the same plane with us. This alone was pissing us off a bit, but we decided he could do it on his own expense. However, after returning to Finland, despite our attempts, there has been practically no communication with the guy, apart from a couple of interesting SMS's (so apparently he's alive): no rehearsals, nothing. We don't even know if he's back in Finland at the moment." More...
Sweden's MORIFADE has issued the following update:
"We will start the recording of our fourth full length album in March. We have 11 new songs to record and this will be the first album with the most recent lineup even though both Kristian [Wallin; vocals] and Mathias [Kamijo; guitar] have been members of the band for some time now."
MORIFADE last year posted a new song, entitled "Shadeless", at this location.
The band parted ways with guitarist Jesper Johansson in October 2005 due to personal differences.
MORIFADE is currently unsigned following a split with Holland's Karmageddon Media (formerly Hammerheart Records), the label that issued the band's most recent album, "Domi<>nation".

Keyboardist Sami Boman of the Finnish atmospheric doom metallers SILENTIUM has issued the following update:
"It's about time to get busy again. The new material for the next SILENTIUM album is starting to get its final shape. Still much training to do, but the writing is almost done. By the end of this year we all should have a complete album in our hands. I have to say I'm more pleased with the new material, than I have ever been before. In my opinion the most relevant thing is that I don't have to carry all the weight of the composing on my own shoulders anymore."
"I'm really thrilled and excited by the fact that Juha [Lehtioksa, guitar] has returned to writing new material for the band and is by the way responsible for the most part of the new compositions. That means killer riffs and extremely moody passages. The good old days are back! I'm also happy, that Riina [Rinkinen, vocals] has written her own material, that will be heard on the album too. All this has enrichened the band's sound to a completely new level. Now I don't have to arrange by force every single idea (even the more poor ones) that comes to mind to suite the new album but we are able to choose only the most shimmering jewels that will end up on the final cut." "Serpent of the Deep", the new video from Finnish death/thrash metallers DEATHCHAIN, can be viewed here. The track comes off the group's third album, "Cult of Death" (Dynamic Arts Records), which entered the Finnish chart at No. 17 back in May 2007.
DEATHCHAIN will enter the studio in May with producer Jari "Tupi" Tuomainen to begin recording its new album, tentatively titled "Death Eternal". An October release is expected.
The band recently parted ways with longtime guitarist Bobby Undertaker. More...
Fresh off the stage in Louisville, Kentucky, ARSIS guitarist and vocalist Jim Malone has this to share about the cover artwork for the band's Nuclear Blast Records debut, "We Are The Nightmare", slated for release in North America on April 15: "I didn't have a working relationship with the Riddick brothers before 2004. I was introduced to them by our first label, Willowtip. When Mark and Mike presented us with our new band logo, we were like, 'Sweeeeet!' I wanted to keep working with them because of their detail and their pen-and-ink approach, not because they're obsessed with corpses and maggots. As far as the new album's artwork, they matched what 'We Are The Nightmare' is about in the sense that my lyrics and music are always very dark, much like their art is. There's something very striking and unique about their drawings, which explains why I own Mark's Killustrations art book and why we chose to use their artwork on our merch. More...

Danish metallers RAUNCHY have set "Wasteland Discotheque" as the title of their fourth album, due on June 30 via Lifeforce Records. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Straight to Hell", "Recovery", "Heavy Burden", "To the Lighthouse", "Destroyer", "Somewhere Along the Road", "Thieves", "Western Gutter", "A Dead Epic", "Black House, Glass City", "To Shatter Bliss" and "Get Fighted".
Commented singer Kasper Thomsen: "Lars' [Christensen, guitar] artwork is stunning as hell, very original and not the usual metal artwork you'll see these days, but still in the tradition of what we're all about and known for, hence the album title too."
Kasper Thomsen previously described the new material as "dirty, melodic, thrashy, epic, melancholic and... drum roll... heavy. We are experimenting a lot this time around, with vocals, arrangements and musical expression, but we're not gonna change radically — don't worry! But as a wise man once said: there's no point in writing the same record twice, right?"
MNEMOSYNE PRODUCTIONS/CANDLELIGHT RECORDS are happy to announce that a second IHSAHN album is set for release this spring. The album is titled "angL."
"I'm currently doing the final mixes for this album, and hope to have everything ready for mastering within a couple of weeks", says IHSAHN. "Musically this album can be seen as a natural progression from "The Adversary," but with a somewhat heavier touch," he continues.
The actual release date of "angL" has yet to be announced.
A new live video of Evergreen Terrace performing their track “Give ‘Em The Sleeper & Brave Reality” has been posted at The Underground Video Television website.
The live footage was filmed in Rochester, NY during the band’s run on the “Monsters Of Mayhem” tour last year, which also featured The Acacia Strain, God Forbid and Hatebreed.
Evergreen Terrace’s "Wolfbiker" was released in July of 2007 via High Impact Recordings/Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2005's "Sincerity is an Easy Disguise in This Business" was recorded at Vision Sound in Florida and was mixed by Jason Livermore.

Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx has refuted claims the band has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Live Nation on his MySpace blog, stating simply:

Pulverised Records issues the following press release:
World renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Nightingale, ex-Bloodbath) has finished laying down the vocal tracks for the upcoming Obliterhate debut album. Recorded at Unisound Studio (Sweden) in just 2 weeks, Dan's contribution on the vocals for Obliterhate is the first time in more than a decade that he has done vocals for a full-length intense Death Metal album.
Comments Calvin: "Dan is definitely one of the most down to earth and professional person I have ever worked with. He wasted no time in getting all the vocal tracks done and we all know how insanely busy he is. Once Dan got the lyrics from me, he did one track in just a few hours time and I can say that his Death Metal vocals have turned out to be even better than before! He kept getting better with each track and amazed me with how his vocal phrasings for each song have made the songs so much more enjoyable to listen to. I am really looking forward to get the Obliterhate album out as soon as possible!"
Ibex Moon Records are proud to announce the signing of HOD from San Antonio, TX. HOD features vocalist Beer Reebs (ex-Pillcrusher, Rancid Vat), Bjorn Haga (ex-Necrovore) on guitars, Carl "Lord Necron" Snyder (ex-Thornspawn) also on guitars, Dirty Derick Rivers (past GG Allin) on bass and Dennis Sanders (ex-Exculcerate) on drums.
John McEntee Owner of Ibex Moon Records comments on teh signing:
“HOD is a real blasphemous power house. I have known Carl and Bjorn for a long time now and jumped at the opportunity to work with them. They play aggressive and twisted black/death metal and bring in the best of the original black/death metal fundamentals without being outdated. They will forge a new standard on the future of extreme metal. I look forward to a monstrous debut album. HOD will for sure be a metal force to be reckoned with!”
Carl "Lord Necron" Snyder HOD guitarist comments:
“We are pleased to announce our signing to Ibex Moon Records. Ibex Moon is the label that is right for HOD. Working with a label that is run by people that are actually fans of extreme metal was a major consideration for us. So this makes a perfect union. Prepare for annihilation...You have been warned!"
You can check out some of HOD's material on their MySpace page.
Here are the latest tour HOD shows planned:
February 29, 2008 @ Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar, 1033 Ave. B, San Antonio, TX 78215

According to News.bg, METALLICA and KISS will play in Bulgaria this spring/summer.
KISS will perform on May 16 at Akademik Stadium in Sofia, one day after making a stop in Belgrade, Serbia.
It is rumored that METALLICA demanded $1.5 million to play in the country, although this information has not been corroborated by an official source.
KISS will perform in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday, March 16 to close the 2008 Grand Prix.
METALLICA has been announced as one of the headliners for the 2008 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, scheduled for June 12 through June 15 in Manchester, Tennessee. METALLICA will headline the bill on June 13. A statement at the band's web site said in part, "The Bonnaroo gang does an amazing job at giving you everything you could want/need for a great weekend...so hang out, soak up the vibe, and embrace the whole experience."
The choice of METALLICA as a headliner is bound to cause controversy, given the festival's more relaxed vibe and past leanings toward jam bands, indie acts and prog-rock. Although TOOL performed last year, the METALLICA audience is often decidedly more raucous.

German female-fronted gothic metallers FLOWING TEARS have issued the following update:
"We can announce a major update on the upcoming studio album: after some very creative months, we're almost done with the songwriting. There are 12 songs so far, not sure if all of them will find their way to the album or if some new ones might come up at last minute, but we're close to the end of the writing mode. Studios are already booked and the production will start in May. A release is scheduled for autumn.
"We don't want to reveal too much about the material yet, but I can tell you it sounds much more atmospheric than we used to sound on our last few albums. Some of the songs have that certain mood that reminds me of what we did on albums like 'Jade' or 'Joy Parade' while still having the power of the stuff from the 'Razorbliss' era. Way less synths this time and way more guitars. There's heavy stuff, there's trippy stuff — and there's some serious doomy stuff. Terribly pessimistic lyrics, by the way.
"There's no working title yet, but some of the songs that are finished so far are entitled 'Pain Has Taken Over', 'Words Before You Leave', 'Until The End' and 'For My Enemies'."
FLOWING TEARS released a live album, "Invanity - Live in Berlin", last October via Ascendance Records, a new label funded by Lee Barrett (founder of Candlelight Records; former member of EXTREME NOISE TERROR, currently in TO-MERA) and A&R'd by Sam Grant (writer, promoter, broadcaster, interviewer for Sonic Cathedral online).
FLOWING TEARS' latest studio album, "Razorbliss", was issued in Europe in March 2004 through Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2002's "Serpentine" was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Waldemar Sorychta (THE GATHERING, LACUNA COIL, SENTENCED, MOONSPELL) and was the band's first to feature vocalist Helen Vogt, who replaced Stefanie Duchêne in 2003.

Italian "extreme epic metal" act STORMLORD has issued the following update:
"The recording sessions of our fourth chapters have begun! We entered The Outer Sound Studios (NOVEMBRE, NECRODEATH, KLIMT 1918) one month ago together with the producer Giuseppe Orlando, as usual. We'll keep on working for about twenty days more. We decided not to give you any news until now in order to fully understand how good this work is. This album is such a great bet for us, it'll see STORMLORD going back to an epic sound near to our first album 'Supreme Art Of War' that almost ten years ago was able to influence tons of bands still growing strong in the scene, even if the style of our recent albums will not be missing. You'll find some surprises like an acoustic song, folk instruments and even some sitar parts, everything mixed with an extreme-epic attitude like it was back in the days, but with the nowadays production and a well developed technical skill."
"The Legacy – 17 Years of Extreme Epic Metal", a double "best-of" collection from STORMLORD, will be released on February 22 through Scarlet Records. The first CD contains 13 songs spanning the band's 17-year career as of one of Europe’s most respected metal merchants, including the rare EP "Under the Sign of the Sword", originally released in 1997. BEHOLD…THE ARCTOPUS have posted the following update:
“Aside from the show with CANVAS SOLARIS and DYSRHYTHMIA coming up in March, and Maryland Deathfest in May, we are in the midst of planning 2 tours: in late April we will FINALLY head up to Canada! This tour will be with the mighty YAKUZA. And then in August we will do a full U.S. tour with the mighty INTRONAUT and the mighty MOUTH OF THE ARCHITECT.
In other Colin Marston news, DYSRHYTHMIA will be hitting the road in June for the first time in what will be more than a year. This live assault will consist of all brand new songs! I’ve also started a black metal band with Mick Barr called KRALLICE. We are recording our first album in less than a week. Playing drums on the record will be the mighty Lev Weinstein of ASTOMATOUS and now BLOODY PANDA. The recording will be released on the mighty Profound Lore Records some time around August ‘08.”
Sweden's SKYFIRE have issued a new studio update. It can be found below:
"Rhythm guitars, bass, drums, keys, and some new elements that we're keeping under wraps for now are recorded for four tracks. There will be approximately 10 songs on the new album so we should be finished in a few months once vocals and lead guitars (including guitar solos from Johan) are done. This album will probably take longer than expected to complete because of the new additions to the Skyfire sound, but we hope that you'll appreciate how much work went into making it once you've got the album in your hands.
As far as the material itself goes; it's sounding most in common with our first album (although we´ve tried to incorporate some of the aggressive and energetic sound that we used on Spectral) , but with longer and more epic tracks (one of them will be approximately 8 minutes long). We've got an album title picked out and very awesome and mind-blowing cover art that supports the theme of the title is being painted as we speak by Pär Olofsson. We've seen two rough sketches of the cover and all we can say is that we´re really impressed by his work so far."
That's it for now,
As previously reported, WHITESNAKE are releasing their anxiously-anticipated new album, Good To Be Bad, through SPV / Steamhammer in Germany on April 18th, the rest of Europe on April 21st and North America on April 22nd. Bonus CD: 'Summer Rain' (acoustic version), 'All I Want All I Need' (radio edit), 'Take Me With You' (live version), 'Ready To Rock' (enhanced video).
Legendary frontman, David Coverdale comments on the album: “The new album contains all the elements I enjoy about Whitesnake, and more. I can hear moments that take me back to the bluesy, early years of the band all the way through the band's musical history to fully embrace the more electric aspects of where we are now, as a band. I'm thrilled with it and can hardly wait to unleash it on an unsuspecting public! If this is indeed the last Whitesnake studio record then I'm happy to finish like this. It was a labour of love making this record...a joy... and I'm still enjoying listening to it. Can't be bad!"
The 11 new songs, written by Coverdale and guitarist Doug Aldrich (who also co-produced the album with Coverdale & Michael McIntyre) provide a good balance of eight rocking tracks and three ballads. Coverdale feels it's the first 'real' Whitesnake album in almost 20 years, commenting “It's very butch. Very muscular..."
